Chapter Text
The trip to the hospital was a blur for Amy, who was doing her best not to cry out when jostled. As soon as they got to the hospital Shadow started shoving his way past other patients on his way to the ER. He turned towards a nearby nurse who, after seeing who it was, immediately started to inspect Amy, after a few moments she turned and motioned for Shadow to follow her as she led them to a room. As soon as the nurse left he set Amy down on the bed.
"Amy," he said, "you need to calm down."
At that Amy's head shot straight up, "Calm down?? Excuse me if I'm too loud for your liking! It's not like I'm in pain or anything!"
Shadow's ear twitched, "I understand that you're hurting," he said slowly, "but if you don't stay calm it will only get worse."
Amy glared at Shadow for a moment before letting out a sigh, "I hate it when you're right." She muttered before shutting her eyes and trying to calm herself.
Shadow leaned back in his seat as a nurse walked in and started taking Amy's vitals. While externally he look relaxed, internally his mind was racing. The extent of the wounds worried him, and as much as he liked to tease Amy he truly did respect her. He knew that she was strong, however, her lack of self-care was concerning. He wasn't exactly sure why he cared so deeply, but he suspected that it was because of just how familiar she looked when he found her training.
Shadow jolted slightly when the doctor finally walked in, he hadn't been aware that so much time had passed. The doctor, an older-looking brown fox, sat on his chair and turned to face Amy.
"So what seems to be the problem?" He asked
Amy let out a sigh, "My wrist has been sore for a while, I ended up taking off my bracelets and, well..." Amy held her wrists out for the doctor to inspect.
His eyes widened and he reached to hold both of them taking note of the damage, "And you said that bracelets caused this?"
Amy looked away slightly before nodding, she opened her mouth to speak before getting cut off by Shadow, "They weren't just bracelets," he huffs, "they were weighted, and she has been wearing them nonstop for who knows how long." He turns his head to look at Amy, "Be honest or you won't get better."
The pink hedgehog scrunched up her nose, "I was about to tell him that myself." She growled.
Shadow simply rolled his eyes and turned his head towards the doctor, who was writing on a clipboard before standing up, "I'm afraid that this is quite serious, we'll need to take some x-rays and determine if there are any lasting injuries. I'm afraid you'll have to stay here in the meantime."
Amy frowned, clearly unhappy with the news, "How long will all of this take exactly?"
The doctor let out a hum, "I'm afraid it may take a couple of hours, as if it turns out to be long-term or extreme damage we'll want to see you right away." He cleared his throat slightly before continuing, "Luckily with your status as a hero we should be able to get this done rather quickly, already having your information on hand."
"Well, that's good news at least," Amy turned her head to look at Shadow, who sat up to meet her gaze, "Shadow, do you mind if I use you as my contact for this? It's... a bit embarrassing, and if something is wrong I don't want others knowing just yet." She looked away at this, a small blush on her face.
Shadow, noted how she was suddenly acting kinder to him, and thought about asking why she wouldn't just contact Sonic but decided that it wasn't his business, besides, he was curious to see what would happen next, and saw her change in attitude as an indicator of her actually thinking about her next actions, "Of course Amy, though I could always stay here if that's what you'd like."
Amy is quick to shake her head as the doctor hands Shadow's some papers to fill out, "No no, you can leave. Like the doctor said it's going to be a while, and it'll probably get boring," Amy turns her head away to look out the window, "besides, I think I have some reflecting to do."
Shadow nods, putting down his contact informationand standing, "I'll be waiting for the call." He says simply, before turning and leaving.
