Chapter Text
Weeks passed before the dust truly settled. Yunjin’s decision to betray her family wasn’t just the end of her life in the Huh syndicate—it was the destruction of everything she had known. Her name was struck from their records, a ghost erased from the empire her father had built. Her family no longer existed to her, and she, to them. Chaewon, too, was lost in the wind, her presence fading from the city like a whispered myth. Fear and reverence were the only things that remained of her in the minds of those who once feared her.
But despite the end, their story wasn’t finished.
It was reborn.
One rainy evening, the world seemed to dissolve into the mist of a small coastal town far from the chaos they had once known. Chaewon stood on the pier, gazing out at the endless expanse of ocean, her posture the same as always—relaxed yet exuding a quiet strength. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks was the only noise, but even it felt like an echo of the lives they’d left behind.
Yunjin’s footsteps were muffled by the rain as she approached, her movements slow and deliberate. When she reached Chaewon’s side, she didn’t say anything at first—just stood there, taking in the peacefulness of this new life they had carved out.
Chaewon’s voice broke the silence, a quiet, almost teasing tone that only Yunjin could interpret. “You’re late.”
Yunjin smiled, her fingers curling around Chaewon’s without hesitation, their hands fitting together like they were always meant to. “I'm worth waiting for.”
Chaewon glanced at her then, the faintest hint of a smile tugging at her lips. But there was something in her eyes that spoke of doubt, of a life lived in shadows and bloodshed. “This seems like such a bad decision.”
Yunjin chuckled softly, the warmth of her breath mingling with the rain. “It probably is.” She leaned in slightly, her gaze never leaving Chaewon’s. “But I just can’t help it.”
Chaewon’s fingers tightened around hers, as if testing the weight of the moment, as if afraid to believe in it. “You’re crazy, you know that?”
“Maybe,” Yunjin replied with a soft laugh, her voice low but steady. “But if we can get over our past...” She met Chaewon’s eyes with a sincerity that made the storm around them seem less terrifying. “We could have a good future.”
For a long moment, Chaewon didn’t answer. Her eyes lingered on Yunjin’s, as if trying to make sense of everything they had been through, everything they had lost—and everything they still had left. Slowly, Chaewon turned fully to face her, the rain clinging to her hair and skin, her features softened by the storm.
Yunjin stood there, not moving, not breaking the gaze. It was a look they had shared before in other places, in other times—full of uncertainty, of hesitation—but now, it was different. It was filled with something more: understanding, acceptance, maybe even hope.
And then, without words, Chaewon nodded. The faintest of smiles—fragile, like something new—appeared on her lips.
“We could,” Chaewon whispered, the sound almost lost in the roar of the waves behind them.
Yunjin nodded, her smile widening. The rain, the storm—it no longer mattered. For the first time, their future didn’t seem impossible.
Together, they stood in the silence of the storm, their hands entwined, and for the first time, they believed it. They could have a good future.
And maybe, just maybe, they would.
