Chapter Text
After finishing their meal and getting Amity back home, Luz and Eda returned home to get some well-deserved rest. The next morning, they were woken up by Lilith’s excited cheering.
“What’s got you so energetic Lulu?” Eda yawned
“Someone’s figured out a way to get onto The Island of Eternal Rain!” Lilith announced.
“Island of Eternal Rain?” Luz stared at Lilith quizzically.
“It’s exactly what it sounds like,” Lilith explained. “Though it’s also rumored to be a hotspot for archeological discoveries!”
“That’s so cool!” Luz smiled giddily. She and Lilith turned to look at Eda, who appeared a tad bit worried for some reason.
“I’m just a bit concerned about people making a mess of things,” Eda explained.
“What are you guys talking about,” King yawned as he stepped down the stairs.
“We were discussing this place known as ‘The Island of Eternal Rain’,” Luz explained.
“Oh! You mean the location of my throne?” King clarified confidently.
“A throne?” Lilith exclaimed. “This is becoming more and more fascinating by the second!”
“Then how about we head over there right now?” Eda offered.
“Okay but I’m going to need to pack some things that we’ll need to get through the rain,” Lilith began to excitedly scramble out the door before being stopped by Eda.
“Actually, we don’t need anything particularly fancy,” Eda explained.
“How do you know?” Luz asked.
“Because I’ve been to that island before,” Eda answered.
Luz and Lilith had several questions, but whenever they tried to ask Eda, she just responded by telling them that she’d explain once the time was right. She then took them and King to the docks and rented out a medium sized fishing boat named the “S.S. Proud Mary”. After it felt like hours of sailing, the four of them came across a barren-looking island that was surrounded by a curtain of boiling rain.
At least, that’s what Luz and Lilith thought, until Eda suddenly jumped off the boat and into said rain, where she stared at the two of them while being completely unharmed.
“How are you doing that?” Lilith asked.
“You mean this?” Eda smiled mischievously while she gradually became more and more soaked. “I’ll tell you as long as you all promise that this information doesn’t leave this group, alright?”
“We promise,” Luz, Lilith and King announced in unison.
“Alright then,” Eda paused for dramatic effect. “The reason why I am able to stand in this rain without protective gear, is because unlike the rain everywhere else, this rain isn’t boiling!” She revealed with dramatic flair.
“But wait, if it isn’t boiling, then why does it look so barren?” Luz asked.
“Why don’t you have a closer look?” Eda replied, beckoning her protégé to join her. With some hesitation, Luz leapt from the boat and onto the shore, where she was surprised to feel a previously invisible blade of grass rub against her ankle. This sensation caused the spell that was cast on the island to be broken for Luz, who watched as the island transformed into a dense forest before her very eyes.
“Illusion magic?” Luz wondered aloud.
“Yep!” Eda nodded. “I apply it to the coastline about once a month,”
“But why? Lilith asked while stepping onto the island with King.
“Because if people were to discover that the rain on this island doesn’t boil, then the place would quickly become yet another tourist trap,” Eda explained. “So I decided to elect myself as this island’s protector,”
“That’s awesome Eda!” Luz exclaimed. “How long have you been doing this?”
“About 8 years,” Eda answered. They were then interrupted by Lilith yelling out to them from deeper into the island.
“Come on! You’ve got to see this!” She shouted. “This could be the discovery of the century!”
“Looks like she found it,” Eda sighed. “Come on Luz, let’s go after her before she gets herself hurt,”
“Right!” Luz nodded.
“Wait for me!” King pleaded as he struggled to keep up due to his short stature. “Damn you tiny legs!”
“Alright fine,” Eda scooped King up and placed him on her shoulders. “You can come along too, as long as you don’t get into any trouble,”
“What do you take me for?” King scoffed arrogantly. “A powerful tyrant, such as myself, would never fall victim to any peril,”
“Then how about you keep a lookout so that I can stay safe?” Eda offered.
“That is acceptable,” King conceded. “Though I would also like to assign Luz as our group’s muscle,”
“Fine by me,” Luz accepted. “Shall we get going then?”
