Chapter Text
The first thing Yoongi registers when he opens his eyes is that he’s sat down at the dinner table - the right one, this time. His literature and notebooks are spread out over the table, just like they had been when he’d sat down to eat his dinner. The plate with rice and chicken on his right is cold, the coke on the table probably lukewarm. He hadn’t been traveling for too long – time moves equally fast when he switches time periods, so he couldn’t have been gone for longer than an hour or two.
There’s a sound coming from behind him; footsteps shuffling around on the carpeted floor of what is their bedroom. Yoongi barely registers how his heart speeds up in anticipation as he stands up and hurries to the bedroom.
When he opens the door he spots him; lean legs crossed over each other in tight black skinny jeans and a tucked-in, black t-shirt loosely hugging his frame. There’s a simple silver necklace hanging around his neck, and equally simple silver bracelet around his delicate wrist. His light blonde head is aimed down as he seems to be typing away on his phone.
“Jimin,” Yoongi sighs, and Jimin looks up from where’s he’s sitting on the bed.
Yoongi is so out of it he thinks it happens in slow-motion; how Jimin blinks once, then twice, and his mouth opens; his eyes crinkle before his mouth is even finished forming his blinding smile.
“Hey handsome,” Jimin says, as he smiles at his boyfriend. “Finally done with your order for tomorrow?”
Jimin makes a move that suggests he’s about to stand up, legs uncrossing as he places his phone next to him on the bed. Yoongi is faster though, almost runs over to the bed as he reaches out to his boyfriend.
Jimin’s eyes grow wide as he sees the relief in Yoongi’s eyes when he comes closer. Jimin’s off the bed already, not fully standing up straight when Yoongi’s lips touch his, when his hands grab his waist and they pull him up and closer towards his body.
The kiss is deep, and Jimin feels Yoongi's intense hold on his body, hands moving up and down his sides. It makes Jimin a little nervous, the way Yoongi is so desperately clinging onto him. Jimin is surprised at the intensity, has half the mind to maybe beg for more when he and Yoongi eventually break apart.
“I love you,” Yoongi whispers against his lips. “I love you so fucking much.”
“I love you too?” Jimin said, flushed and confused. “Hyung- are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” Yoongi exhales, eyes taking in every inch of Jimin’s face. “I’m fine,” he says again, and lets out a sigh of relief. “I just… realised how much I loved you. Still love you,” Yoongi continues.
“Hyung, did something happen?” Jimin said, obviously still confused. Yoongi nods and takes his hand, guiding Jimin to sit back on the bed, and went to sit next to him. Yoongi cleared his throat.
“I... accidentally travelled back in time, to 2019. To when we weren’t dating, and I think I kind of convinced you to start dating me?”
Jimin looks at him, blinks, and to Yoongi’s surprise, suddenly starts laughing.
“Finally,” Jimin giggles, and slaps Yoongi’s thigh. “Finally, you asshole!”
“What?!” Yoongi smiles surprised.
“Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting to talk to you about this? For five years, Min Yoongi! Five years!”
“How’s that my fault?! I didn’t know any of this was supposed to happen!”
“You gave me one of the best blowjobs of my life and then disappeared, literally disappeared into thin air!”
Yoongi blushes. “I... that might not have been the smoothest exit ever?”
“You think?” Jimin says offended, shoving Yoongi’s shoulder lightly. “You’re unbelievable.”
“At least I didn’t call our relationship ‘my worst nightmare’,” Yoongi retaliates, and Jimin’s mouth drops open, only to close again.
“Yeah that was... pretty fucked up,” Jimin said, and then starts laughing again. “As was you shoving that picture of Chuseok in my face,” Jimin replied.
“Yeah,” Yoongi shrugged. “You know how petty I can get,” he said, which made Jimin roll his eyes.
“I remember seeing that picture right after we took it,” Jimin said then. “I wasn’t sure if I had to convince you to put it as your background, but you ended up doing it anyway.”
“Crazy,” Yoongi said, shaking his head. “So crazy, I can’t believe what happened tonight.”
“It really changed everything for me,” Jimin said. He looks up to the ceiling, pondering his thoughts a little before continuing.
“After you left that night, I was just... in shock. About everything. I couldn’t really tell anyone about it, and I didn’t want to, either.”
“You’ve never spoken about it with anyone?” Yoongi asks. Jimin shakes his head.
“Not even with Jungkook?”
“No,” Jimin said. “No one. I didn’t want to share this with anyone. It just felt too... intimate. It’s such a huge moment in our relationship. At least it was for me, back then.”
“I get it,” Yoongi replies. “Thank you for keeping it a secret, even from me back then,” Yoongi says, and then laughs. “I think that if I'd known I would end up with you, I wouldn't have been able to look you in the eye for months.”
“Which is why I didn’t believe it at first,” Jimin adds. “When you showed me how we would end up in a relationship together I just kept thinking of the person you were back then,” Jimin says, taking Yoongi’s hand.
“You were so quiet back then, and serious. You never actively showed any interest in me, at least not that I was aware of, you know?”
Yoongi nodded. “I was kind of insecure back then.”
“I know,” Jimin says. “You were still cute, though.”
“You thought I was cute?”
“I might have been oblivious to your feelings but I still had eyes, hyung,” Jimin said. “You were adorable then, and you were very sweet to me. But that night... the person that I met that evening was so... hot. And sexy. So, so sexy,” Jimin said, leaning forward. Yoongi meets him halfway, a smile growing as he softly kisses Jimin.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah,” Jimin said against his lips. He gives him another kiss before he moves back. “I couldn’t believe you were going to become that guy. So full of confidence, and love for me.”
“Being with you made me more confident,” Yoongi admits. “Being around you made me proud, but it also gave me a push. I kind of... wanted to be better. For myself mostly, but I also wanted to be a better man, for you.”
Jimin smiles, his eyes full of admiration. There were a few quiet seconds before he continued.
“You speak as if you’re reading from a love letter, hyung. Did you know that?”
Yoongi blushes, looks down at their entangled fingers. He hums.
“Seriously, hyung,” Jimin says, squeezing Yoongi’s fingers. “Whenever you talk to me about us, about what we have and how you feel about me, I just get so... overwhelmed. You make me feel like- like, I don’t know, like... I’m the only fucking girl in the world,” Jimin says exasperatedly, making Yoongi snort.
Jimin rolls his eyes. “Whatever, I’m not good with words.”
Yoongi chuckles. “You’re fine, and you don’t need to tell me in words how you feel. I know you.”
“See? You always make me feel better about myself,” Jimin continues, still looking Yoongi in the eyes. “And you call me out on stuff, too. You said that you want to be a better man for me, but don’t even realise you make me want to be better, too.”
Yoongi looks at Jimin for a long moment, taking in the words he’d spoken.
“Jimin?”
“Hm?”
“Will you marry me?”
The hush that falls over the room is so quiet, Yoongi briefly wonders whether the world actually froze, stopped moving. But he spots movement then; Jimin’s eyes widen and he hears a tiny inhale.
“W- What?” Jimin says, bewildered. His eyes are wide and he looks like he’s in shock; hands frozen in Yoongi’s.
Yoongi smiles, lets go of Jimin’s hands and stands up. He walks to his jewellery box, takes a second to find what he’s looking for and walks back. As he sits down, he shows Jimin the ring he’s holding.
“Will you marry me?” Yoongi asks again, looking down from the ring back up to Jimin.
Jimin is looking down at the ring. It's silver; the band small but not too thin, and there’s a line of three tiny emeralds in the middle of the band.
“I bought this for our next anniversary, but I realised tonight that there’s no better time than the present.”
“Hyung,” Jimin says, in awe. He looks back up from the ring to Yoongi, who isn’t surprised to see the tears in his boyfriend’s eyes.
“Yes,” he finally says. “Yes, yes, of course I want to marry you, Min Yoongi.”
“Thank god,” Yoongi exhales, and Jimin lets out a watery giggle and sniffs, hand shaking slightly when Yoongi takes it in his own.
Yoongi puts the ring on carefully, lets out a sigh of relief when he sees it fits perfectly and looks back up at his fiance. He leans in for a kiss, and Jimin follows his lead. Their lips touch for a sweet, brief moment before they break apart again.
“Thank you for coming into my life and giving the two of us a chance,” Yoongi says. “I know that lately we haven’t spent as much time together as we used to, or as we’d like to. But I promise I’m going to be better from now on,” he continues, fingers entangling again.
“Going back to the start made me realise how in love I am with you. It also made me think of what would happen if I’d lose you.”
“Yoongi,” Jimin says quietly, eyes tearing up.
“I don’t think there’s anyone else on this planet that makes me feel the way you do. I wouldn’t want to do life without you, Park Jimin.”
“I’ve already said yes, hyung, you don’t need to convince me anymore,” Jimin chuckles in between sniffs. “The speech goes before the question?”
“I know,” Yoongi says, heart full of happiness when he wipes a tear away from Jimin's cheek. “But you deserve to hear shit like this all the time,” Yoongi says, and kisses the hand that now has the engagement ring on its fourth finger.
“I really hit the jackpot,” Jimin says, now able to manage an actual full smile. “It’s funny; I spoke with a guy once,” he says as his eyes twinkle. “He told me I should look for someone who’d go out of their way to make me feel special. I feel like he might've been rooting for himself, though.”
“Smart guy,” Yoongi says. “Ahead of his time, wasn’t he?”
Jimin giggles, holds Yoongi’s face between his hands and leans in for another kiss.
“He really was.”
