Jim invites Spock along on a (purely platonic) shore leave trip of hiking and camping in the mountains, but some extreme weather forces them to abandon their plans and take shelter in a busy resort town nearby. A misunderstanding at the only hotel with a vacancy ends up giving them what they both secretly desire.

Spock and Captain Kirk have crash-landed on a class L planet. With the shuttlecraft out of commission and their signal unable to penetrate the atmosphere, they must navigate frigid temperatures and unexpected dangers as they climb to higher altitudes: their only chance of getting their distress signal sent. But Spock's feelings toward the Captain prove to be somewhat of a distraction...

The Captain accepts a rice crispy treat from Mr Sulu, who is well-known around the ship for his 'special' baked goods. However, Jim is such a hopeless square that he has no idea this treat is about to alter his mind, and heads off to his chess game with Mr Spock with one for each of them. Luckily, Spock is a seasoned pro and is there to help him out... perhaps in more ways than one.
