diamond thinks about space

Work Text:

You're sitting by yourself on a hill, here on a picnic with Pearl and Platinum, its a bright autumn day, chilly for this early in the season, you all have broken out your winter gear, pearl simply flipping down the sleeves of his jacket.
Earlier you’d all taken a walk, trying to find the perfect place to sit down, you had gotten sidetracked to a fun-sized carnival, with a featured sky-high monument.
When you had gone, you found a lovely area with so many flowers, and that’s where you all were.

The wind is blustering, and your closest friends are chatting about all that you’d done today.

But you can’t stop staring at the sky.
You can't stop staring at that deep blue and you know that it goes on forever, you’ve witnessed the limitlessness.

You’ves passed through another dimension to save your friend, no, rather a consequence of saving the one you’ve always been there for, the one who's never left your side.

You remember Platinum, a close friend for not quite as long but just as much, her telling you about space and all she knew about the dimensions.
How in space there are giant star clumps, alien life suspected to be living in these, millions and billions of stars and its always expanding, with all she knows, she knows what she doesn’t.
You wish you could see more of it, maybe then you’d know more for yourself.

You know that blue isn’t empty, it isn't blue at all even, just some air that keeps you alive, protecting from the unknown.
That's how everything is, you think.
Something shielding another thing until it’s destroyed
The question is which is which

But then what happens when you’re destroyed.

The blue seems empty to you, sitting on the hill.

You think in that moment for one of the few times in your life-

You feel helpless.
