Work Text:
When Shinsou trudged to the common rooms at four am, he hadn't expected to see Denki Kaminari laying sprawled on the couch. The tired teen's eyes widened with surprise and he froze, thinking his classmate was still awake.
"Kaminari?" He called out tentatively, walking over to the couch and sitting down next to his classmate.
Kaminari barely stirred at his voice, snoring softly. Shinsou sighed, relieved he wouldn't have to subject himself to social interactions this late. He looked at the blond, who had curled into a ball. Shinsou smiled a little, picking up the blanket he'd brought in case he felt sleepy, and unfolded it to drape it over Kaminari's sleeping form.
Shinsou leaned back into the couch, looking away, because he felt it was strange to watch someone sleep. He picked up his laptop from where he'd placed it on the table. As he started up the device, he heard Kaminari mutter unitelligibly in his sleep. Shinsou envied the fact the other was able to fall asleep while he was plagued with insomnia.
Unlike Kaminari he hadn't come here to sleep, he'd gone to the common room because they had yet to install an extender to the wifi in his dorm, making the internet so poor he spent most of his time out of his dorm, much to his dismay.
Why was he sleeping here anyway, Shinsou pondered. Maybe he should wake him up, it couldn't be very comfortable to sleep on the couch. He leaned over, gently shaking the blond and spoke softly, "Kaminari."
There was no answer. Shinsou bit his lip, perhaps he should just leave him be and go back to his dorm. Or he could carry him back to his bed? He shook his head, he wasn't close with Kaminari to the point where he'd be comfortable doing that. He wished he was closer, a part of him supplied helpfully.
Shinsou had transferred barely two weeks ago, two weeks which he'd spent mostly in Midoriya's and the Dekusquad's company, but Shinsou could never forget the electric presence of the boy from the joint training exercise.
"You've got the face of a popular guy. I bet you're popular with the ladies, trust me, I can tell."
"I know you said you're not interested in making friends and all that, but I like you dude."
"You're a proper hero hopeful, just like the rest of us."
Shinsou dismissed the memories and the blush forming on his cheeks with a shake off the head. He gathered his things and stood up but stilled when he heard Kaminari mutter, "Shinsou?"
Shinsou turned around startled, Kaminari had sat up and was rubbing his eyes groggily. When Kaminari registered Shinsou looking at him, he repeated, more clearly, "Shinsou?"
As the socially awkward person he is, Shinsou didn't answer, frozen with surprise. Oh God, he must look so dumb.
Thankfully Kaminari didn't seem to mind, "What time is it?" he groaned, yawning.
Oh finally a question he knew what to answer, Shinsou sat back down on the couch shakily. He looked at his phone, "It's 4:20 am," he said in his usual emotionless voice.
Kaminari let out a breathy laugh, "Heh, blaze it," he paused, "By the way, why are you up so late?" he asked while looking at Shinsou with his breathtaking golden eyes, rendering Shinsou speechless for a moment.
Shinsou cleared his throat, "Insomnia. Why were you sleeping on the couch?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
Kaminari crossed his legs, moving closer to Shinsou, oblivious to the red flush on Shinsou's face. Kaminari sighed, summoning a tiny flash of electricity between his fingers, "I have a form of insomnia due to my quirk, the excess energy I have because of my electricity tends to keep me awake. I thought a change of environment might help and hey I did end up finding sleep, good thing too, I haven't slept well for almost a week now."
"Sorry for waking you," mumbled Shinsou.
Kaminari's eyes widened and shook his head, "Oh dude, don't worry! I had a bad dream, that's why. You were great, uh yeah," he reassured frantically. He looked at the blanket on his legs, then at Shinsou, "Thanks for the blanket," he said with a warm smile.
Shinsou shrugged awkwardly as if it was no big deal, "What are you going to do now then?"
The blond sighed dramatically, "Not sure, when I wake up, I have a tough time going back to bed, so I can't sleep."
"If you want, I can make you some Chamomile tea? It helps me with my Insomnia sometimes," suggested Shinsou, scratching his neck.
"Really? That'd be great!"
Shinsou nodded and stood up, heading for the kitchen. He took out his container of Chamomile and brewed it as he watched Kaminari look under the couch with curiosity.
When he came back with the two cup of steaming beverages, Kaminari had a bunch of DVDs in his arms. "Hey uh, I know this probably isn't the best to help with sleep, but urm yea, I was wondering if you wanted to watch a movie," Kaminari then added quickly, "But it's up to you, you don't have to."
Shinsou mustered a warm smile as he put the cups down, "As long as we get to watch my favorite movie," he said as Kaminari brightened.
"And that is?" asked the electric teen with a growing grin.
Shinsou rummaged through the DVDs, took one out and showed it to Kaminari. "Inception? Hell yea, love DiCaprio and Ellen Page!" he exclaimed.
The two inserted the DVD into Shinsou's computer and Kaminari pulled up his earphones and offered one to Shinsou. Shinsou tried it place the laptop in the middle of the two but it made it hard to see the screen well.
Kaminari hummed thoughtfully before huddling so close to Shinsou they were basically cuddling and placing the laptop on their laps. Shinsou'eyes grew at the sudden contact and for the hundredth since Kaminari woke up, his whole face flushing red, while Kaminari remained completely oblivious.
Then Kaminari pulled Shinsou's blanket over the two of them, smoothing out the crinkles on the side of the blanket that was on Shinsou's well built chest. Turning Shinsou into a furiously blushing and awkward mess. When Shinsou looked up, he saw the sly, cheeky grin Kaminari wore as he patted the other's chest.
He's not as oblivious as I thought, concluded Shinsou as Kaminari finally peeled himself away from the other boy to launch the movie. This is nice, was Shinsou's last thought before the movie finally started.
…………..
The next morning, when class 2-A spilled into the common room, they were surprised to find Shinsou and Kaminari sleeping on the couch, Kaminari's head on Shinsou's chest, the aforementioned tired teen's arms around the other, with the laptop on the floor (thankfully unharmed). Upon seeing this, the Bakusquad (minus Bakugou) simultaneously squealed as the other members of 2-A shared knowing smiles.
(They both woke up as very blushy messes to the friendly teasing of their classmates)
