child of daffodil

Summary:

Yoongi would always tell him that he’s like a sun but Hoseok only considered himself as a sunflower who’s only basking underneath Yoongi’s warm light. Yoongi’s the sun, the moon, and the stars above. He was the whole sky, his whole universe— and Hoseok could only thank the heavens for allowing him to hold onto it physically.

Notes:

This is a giveaway fic that I promised @pokichisai seven months ago. I would like to apologize if it took so long for me to write this because I'm not really knowledgeable when it comes to adoption so I do hope that it's okay that I took the liberty in writing my own process? Again, I would like to apologize for the inaccuracies and lateness of this piece! I do hope you'll enjoy this.

Disclaimer: everything about this fic is "fictional"

Work Text:

The only acceptable reason to have a child is for the sole purpose of nurturing and caring for another being is what Hoseok had always believed— not for the purpose of raising one as sort of an investment. Hoseok had always wanted to raise a child of his own, thoughts that’s always been present in his mind since at the tender age of twenty. He believed that he’s capable of doing so and it’s only been reinforced the moment he learned the language of flowers through his own flower fairy— Min Yoongi. It wasn’t like that in the beginning, of course, since he once thought of having a wife who’d give birth to his own child— someone with the same DNA running through their veins, but not that it mattered anymore as long as he’s given the chance to care for a child.

He knew that Yoongi’s always wanted to nurture a life which was the main driving force to his passion of learning the complexities of flowers and plants alike. It’s a lot of effort but it’s nothing that Yoongi’s willing to learn. It’s been eight years since they’ve met each other; and four years since they’ve been married; and Hoseok thought that it was finally the time for them to push through with their plans of adopting a child of their own when they were able to talk about their future dreams a year into their relationship as boyfriends.

It was obvious in the way that Yoongi looks from a distance when parents hold their child’s hand, merrily walking down the street. Hoseok could see the tiniest hint of a smile and sparkle in Yoongi’s cat-like eyes whenever he witnesses such a lovely sight. And it’s also in the way that Hoseok’s heart beat faster in seeing the lovely blush on Yoongi’s cheeks, fondness growing inside his chest as the desire to nurture for another life burned stronger.

“Seok-ah,” Yoongi softly said beside him, a call for his attention despite the fact that Hoseok’s already looking in his way, unabashed. Yoongi ducked his head slightly while trying to maintain eye contact with his lover, and Hoseok only paid closer attention, hand squeezing the elder’s hand to let him know that he’s listening. The flowers were all pretty behind him as they’re surrounded by them.

“What is it, Yoonie?”

“Are you free this weekend?”

Hoseok wracked his brain if there were already a schedule lined up for him that coming weekend, thinking if he had an appointment with the 3J crew but none were coming up at all.

“None, I’m available this whole weekend. I’m all yours.” Hoseok replied with a warm smile on his face, lifting their entwined hands to put a light kiss on his lover’s knuckles. “We can cuddle all day if you want to.”

Yoongi’s gummy smile finally made its appearance which never failed to make Hoseok’s heart flutter.

“That’s lovely, Seok-ah. But I was actually thinking...” Yoongi trailed off

Hoseok waited patiently because there’s no time wasted whenever he’s with his lover.

“Do you want to visit the orphanage that we were talking about last month? I think it’s about time to do so, don’t you think? That is if I’m reading things correctly.” Yoongi raised his free hand and started biting on his nails out of habit, one of his nervous ticks. Hoseok reached out and grabbed the hand away from Yoongi’s mouth, holding both of his lover’s hands, rubbing circles on the back of his hands with his thumbs.

“Of course, I’d love to. Thought you’d never mention it, but I was actually waiting for you.” Hoseok reassured Yoongi.

“I actually called them in advance and Taehyung-ssi told me that he’ll be there to welcome us. He’ll be the one to introduce us to the kids in the orphanage.”

“Taehyung-ssi? Wait, is this Kim Taehyung?” Hoseok asked, a bit surprised to hear a familiar name.

“Yes, surprisingly.” Yoongi gave him a sheepish look. “Please don’t think too much about it, Seok-ah. He’s a good kid.”

“How am I sure that he won’t try to impress you once we go there?” Hoseok’s not really jealous, he just wanted to tease Yoongi a bit especially when they both knew that Taehyung was one of Yoongi’s college admirers. Hoseok had nothing against Taehyung since he’s always been respectful to the both of them back in college.

“Seok-ah, I only have my eyes on you. My heart is only yours.” Yoongi leaned forward to press a kiss where he could reach (which ended up on Hoseok’s chin, given their positions).

Hoseok tried not to burst into laughter as he looked at the tiny pout on the elder’s pink lips. Yoongi wasn’t even trying to be cute because he’s naturally cute. Min Yoongi’s going to be the death of him, Hoseok absently thought.

“I know. I just like teasing you because you’re too adorable, hyungie.

“You’re mean.” Yoongi said without any heat in his tone but only fondness.

“Yoongi-hyung, long time no see!” Taehyung greeted Yoongi with a huge grin, hand reaching out for a friendly handshake. “Oh, and Hoseok-hyung? Wow, you’re still together.” Taehyung said in awe.

“And married, yes.” Hoseok said with a smile.

If only it was possible, Taehyung’s eyes would’ve been bigger as it already were. “Wow, congratulations!” His eyes darted between the couple.

“Thank you.” Yoongi sincerely said with a radiant smile resting on his lips

“Okay,” Taehyung suddenly said in a professional tone but still with that same kindness and warmth, “I would like to welcome you to Inner Child Home and I really hope you’ll find your perfect blessing in this place.” He ended his speech with hope shining in his eyes.

Taehyung must’ve been really fond of the children in the orphanage.

“Let me show you the way.”

Hoseok and Yoongi stayed in the orphanage until 5 P.M. as they’ve grown fond of the children playing around.

They’ve met all of them and it was difficult and a bit heartbreaking that they could only adopt one child— if they were given the chance to adopt all of them, they would’ve done so already.

There was Seulhi, a cheerful and kind kid who knew a lot of things for her age, then there was Junnie with his adorable eyes and good manners. And then Hyuka, a shy kid with a very sweet smile that made Hoseok and Yoongi want to protect him.

And that’s how the decision was made in the early stage.

Hoseok and Yoongi decided that it would be best to pay the orphanage a visit twice a week so that they’d be able to build a more comfortable bond with the kid that they would be adopting— especially when Hyuka needed the time to get accustomed to his parents-to-be.

Yoongi usually brought flowers to the orphanage as a gift for the other children. He’s often elated to see the children stare in awe at the various colors and shapes of the flowers— and of course, he brought specially arranged wreaths for Hyuka every week.

Hoseok would watch Yoongi talk with Hyuka for hours, teaching him all there is about flowers— especially the language of flowers that seemed to capture Hyuka’s interest.

Hoseok also bought a flower book for kids that he was sure Hyuka would love— and he was right. Hyuka looked at him with a huge grin on his face, eyes sparkling with delight, and it was in that moment that Hoseok knew he would really love Hyuka to join him and Yoongi to be the family he’d always dreamed of. And looking at Yoongi’s gummy smile directed at the innocent child, it was obvious that he wanted the same thing.

It was up to Hyuka if he wanted to be part of their lives.

“Looks like things are going well for both of you guys, and I can also see that Hyuka’s starting to warm up to you guys.” Taehyung had said, going on about the things that surprised him whenever Hyuka’s interacting with Yoongi and Hoseok. The future’s looking for all of them and they couldn’t wait to make things official.

“Welcome to our home, Hyuka.” Hoseok cheerily said, excitement buzzing through his veins as soon as Hyuka stepped into their familiar home. Yoongi and Hoseok both prepared for the special day in welcoming Hyuka into their lives by putting up a banner decorated with daffodils that read “Welcome to your forever home, Jung Hyuka,” Yoongi was ecstatic that he ended up cooking a lot of dishes that seemed to be Hyuka’s favorite, one of it being Galbi tang.

The adoption process went smoothly seeing that both Yoongi and Hoseok could provide Hyuka’s basic needs, and the fact that they’re both responsible adults and good citizens. Taehyung also helped with the process, putting in a good word for them in the report that he meticulously wrote about the couple and Hyuka’s time in the orphanage. Yoongi and Hoseok also started giving him support even before the adoption was finalized. It took them five months since four of it were allotted to bond with Hyuka even though it was clear in the fifth week that they visited him that he was more than happy to be part of their family. They didn’t rush things because they wanted Hyuka to spend more time with his friends since it would’ve been difficult for a seven-year-old to suddenly have a drastic change in his life. Taehyung would even join them sometimes whenever Hyuka came over to the couple’s house to slowly ease him into the environment that he would eventually be a part of. Hoseok was usually the one who picked up and dropped off Hyuka for those visits.

Yoongi gave Hyuka a warm hug before ushering him to the table where his favorite food were laid out. Hoseok then invited Taehyung and Jimin inside their home. Park Jimin’s also a volunteer at Inner Child Home and it was easy to become friends with him what with his friendly nature.

“Congratulations to the both of you.”

“Thank you so much.” Words that were uttered with so much sincerity for all the help that they’ve given him and Yoongi.

They all turned when Yoongi’s voice carried so much fondness and happiness as he asked them to come quickly so that they could finally start the party they’ve prepared for their little Hyuka.

It was a new beginning that Hoseok and Yoongi both sincerely wished for, and there’s nothing more beautiful than the words Seokie-appa and Yoonie-appa uttered out loud by Hyuka, the biggest blessing in their lives.
