Work Text:
The large house is empty as it usually is, no one appears to visit this time of year. Jimin sets down his medical bag at the front door and takes off his coat.
“Jimin? Is that you?” a voice yells out somewhere from upstairs.
Jimin smiles to himself. “Yes it’s me Joonho, I'll be up in a minute.” He carefully takes his shoes off and sets them by the door and grabs his medical bag to make his way up the stairs.
Joonho is sitting in his favorite chair in the library like he usually is when Jimin comes over. “I was reading a book I think you would like.” He says casually, handing the softcover book over to Jimin. He takes it graciously and places it in his bag. “You always give the best recommendations. I'll make sure to read it and we can have a discussion on it.”
Joonho gives him a soft smile. Jimin has been Joonho’s personal nurse for two whole years now and has spent most of his time with this man. He loved Joonho like he was his own family and Joonho loved him too. It was a good job and it didn’t hurt that it paid well.
“Let me give you your medication right away here and then we can play a friendly game of chess. I need to beat you again.” Joonho scoffs “You winning last time was a fluke I’ll beat you this time.”
Jimin smiles again as he lines all the medication on the small library table. Joonho takes a handful of drugs every day which isn’t particularly uncommon for people his age. Plus, he was as fit as ever. Jimin hardly worried about him.
“Okay, here you go.” Jimin hands him all the pills in one handful and Joonho throws them all into his mouth at once and swallows them without any water.
“Now, can we play chess?” Hee questions. Jimin just smiles and pulls the table between them and takes a seat on a nearby chair. He pulls an old chess board out of his bag and starts to set it up in front of them.
----
It’s raining outside today which Jimin finds incredibly ironic. He’s dressed head to toe in black and his eyes are stained red. He really isn’t prepared to do this today.
“Jimin? Are you sure you can do this?” His best friend and roommate Taehyung asks him from the couch. Jimin realizes he’s been standing completely still in the kitchen for the past ten minutes with a glass of water in his hand. He takes a slow sip and attempts to clear his mind.
“I have to do this, I can’t just skip his funeral. I saw him almost every single day for two years f I have to do this.”
Jiin had gotten the call from the hospital on one of the days that Jimin had off. They told him that Joonho had a heart attack and he didn’t make it. He knows there was nothing he could have done to prevent it but the thought still lingers.
Jimin takes a shaky breath and Taehyung gives him a sympathetic look. “I’ll be here when you get back and we can have a movie day or something okay? I’ll make popcorn for your return.”
“Thanks.” Jimin manages a smile. “I’ll be back in about three hours hopfully.” He checks his phone and sees that he has about ten minutes to make it to the funeral. “Okay, i’ll see you later.” Jimin says as he heads out the door.
He forgot his umbrella but he’s going to be late if he doesn’t leave right now so he makes his way down the block letting the rain seep through his suit jacket.
He’s going to look like a mess when he gets to the funeral but he can’t find it in himself to care. Joonho’s sons hate him anyway, might as well give them something else to hate.
It’s not a long walk to the funeral home the funeral is at and as he rounds the corner he can see the hundreds of cars parked around the building. Joonho was a popular figure.
As he steps inside he can immediately hear the voice of the Kim family.
Jimin was hired by Chungsook, Joonho’s late wife right before her passing and was told to stay with Joonho until he passed on as well since, as Joonho had once said, their children were ungrateful assholes.
Jimin had seen what growing up rich did to people and these children were no exception. First was the eldest, Seokjin. Jimin saw the most of him since he probably felt some type of responsibility as the eldest.
Seokjin was overseas a majority of the time in America working in the media. Jimin wasn’t entirely positive what his job title was but whenever he saw him all he talked about were the celebrities that he knew.
Next was Yoongi. Yoongi was the quietest of the bunch, always having his headphones in whenever Jimin saw him. He typically only saw him at family events and he had never tried to have conversations with Jimin. Hfjdjfs told him that Yoongi liked music a lot and worked long and hard hours in the music industry. But thanks to that, he never visited home often and rarely called either of his parents to chat.
Lastly was Hoseok. Hoseok was loud and his voice would always fill the entire room. Jimin knew that he was in a traveling dance group that he joined when he was nineteen and had never been home since. Jimin had seen him exactly twice the entire time he worked with Joonho and both times Hoseok had looked at him like he was a rotten egg.
Now as Jimin stares at these three children of two people that had treated him so well he feels the tears start to well up in his eyes again. How did they all end up so different from their parents?
“Jimin!” Seokjin notices him standing at the door and waves him over. Reluctantly, Jimin makes his way over to four of them.
“Everyone, you remember Jimin. He took care of father.”
Yoongi rolls his eyes. “Of course we know him Jin.”
“Why did you let our dad die?” Hoseok sneers at him and Seokjin elbows him hard in the ribs.
“Thank you for taking care of him.” Seokjin says quietly.
“I loved him greatly.” Jimin says “I’m sorry for your loss, your father loved you all so much I heard all about you from him.”
This appears to brighten the group up a bit, even Yoongi’s eyes look a bit livelier.
“Really?” Hoseok asks, the hostility gone from his voice.
“Yes really, of course he loved you all.”
“Excuse me,” A voice comes from outside of the little circle they had made. “Are you Park Jimin?”
Jimin turns to see a tall man in a black suit with serious eyes. “Yes that’s me?” Jimin says, confused.
“Oh good, i’ve been trying to contact you nonstop for the past two days but I haven't gotten an answer.”
“I had my phone off..” Jimin says quietly. “What is this about?”
“Well, it’s about Kim Joonho and the will.”
The will?
“The will? What about us, we’re his children?!” Hoseok demands, his face scrunched in anger.
The man’s eyes flicker over the four fgjfdh children and then back to Jimin. “Maybe we should do this later..”
“No, let’s do it now.” Seokjin says. “Let’s find a private room to talk.”
He leads all of them down one of the empty halls of the funeral home and finally finds an empty office that has its door open.
Seokjin sits down on one of the chairs and the rest of the Kim siblings follow suit. Jimin stands, too terrified to even sit down.
“Talk.” Seokjin demands.
“Okay.. Well i’m fhgk, your father’s attorney and I have his last will and testament right here.” The man swallows hard. “It’s actually quite simple. He has given everything in his possession to his nurse Park Jimin.”
The Kim siblings all start to talk over each other and Jimin feels like his world is spinning.
“All of it? He’s not even family, he's some stranger! There must be a mistake!” Someone yells.
There’s more yelling and Jimin starts to feel faint. The last thing he remembers is someone yelling “He used our father to get to his money!”

Jungkook is bored out of his mind.
He’s sitting at his desk just staring at his computer. He’s already finished all the low level tasks the upper level lawyers in his firm have asked him to do.
“How you holding up?” a voice says suddenly, making Jungkook jump in his seat. Leaning on his desk is Namjoon, the only lawyer in the firm that respects him and thinks that he can do more than just get coffee.
Jungkook relaxes at the sight of his friend and leans back into his chair. “I’m bored out of my mind. I’m so sick and tired of not doing actual lawyer stuff here. Why did I even go to school if this is what I was going to be doing.”
Namjoon scruffs his head like he’s a little kid and Jungkook tries to doge away. “You just have to prove yourself kid, I know you’re going to be a great lawyer you just have to force everyone else here to recognize that too.”
“How am I supposed to do that.” Jungkook says with a pout.
Namjoon gets the same kind of smile on his face when he knows he has a good plan and sets a newspaper down in front of him
The first thing his eyes focus on is the huge picture on the front page. It’s of a man who doesn’t look to be much older than Jungkook himself walking out of an apartment complex with his face hidden with the help of a taller man around the same age. The headline says “Nurse ends up with all 10 million dollars of the late Kim Joonho’s estate leaving his own children nothing.”
Well that explains the hiding.
Jungkook grabs the paper and reads on, now invested in the story. It states that the other Kim children are furious with their late father and intend to fight the nurse, Park Jimin, for their share of the inheritance, willing to go to court if they have to.
Jungkook can tell that while the Kim family probably has the best lawyers money can buy on their side, Park Jimin probably has no clue what to do right now.
He knows what Namjoon wants him to do. Winning a high profile case like this would force him into the limelight.
Without thinking it through, he picks up his phone and starts typing. With one quick google search he has Park Jimin’s email address.
He turns to his work computer and starts typing. Namjoon pats his shoulder and leaves him to it.
---
Somehow the entire apartment complex is crawling with reporters. Jungkook is a little impressed with their dedication.
Of course, this means that it’s going to be very hard to reach Jimin and convince him that he wants to help him and that he needs Jungkook’s help.
Jungkook scans the area and tries to find a way into the building when he spots a hunched over figure with a huge bag of food. They look familiar to Jungkook and then it hits him. He’s the exact same man that was in the pictures of Jimin that he saw. He knew Jimin!
Before he can think it over, he rushes over to the man. The man looks up in shock and tries to run away. Jungkook tries to yell after him before he gets too far. “Wait! I’m not a reporter I promise!”
The man stops and looks back at him. “If you’re not a reporter then who are you?”
“I’m a lawyer, I want to help Jimin.”
The man eyes him suspiciously and Jungkook tries to stand as innocently as he possibly can.
After a while the man nods. “I get good vibes off of you so I can take you to Jimin but I can’t promise that he’ll want to work with you.”
Jungkook nods. “All I need is a meeting. He’ll agree to work with me.”
---
Jimin is lying down on his couch with his feet on the top and his head dangling off the edge. The TV is playing reruns of a kdrama he’s memorized all the words to at this point so he’s only half watching it. He’s scrolling through his twitter feed and reading all the news stories about his inheritance and all the awful things people are saying about him.
He stole the money from those poor kids.
He was probably fucking the old man.
He doesn’t deserve that money, he wouldn’t even know how to use it.
It makes him naousos and Taehyung keeps on telling him to stop but it’s so addicting and he can’t stop. He has to know what the people are saying about him.
It feels like hours that he’s been scrolling through twitter when the front door opens.
“Thank god, I’m starving.” Jimin says to Taehyung without even looking up. He hopes taehyung brought back some pastries.
“Um, actually I brought someone that wants to talk to you.”
“Talk to me?” Jimin finally drags his eyes off his phone and is met with the upside down image of Taehyung and another man about the same height as him. This stranger is dressed well with a nice button down shirt and slacks that fit his body nicely with well styled brown hair that looks soft to the touch. The only thing that looks out of place are his large brown eyes that look bright and innocent as they look at Jimin.
He’s extremely handsome and suddenly Jimin is self conscious of the way he’s seated.
He sits upright and rolls his shoulders back. “Yes, what can I help you with?” He asks in his adult voice.
“I wanted to offer you my legal services.” The man says in a soft voice that somehow still sounds confident.
“Legal services?” Jimin’s eyes widen. “What? Why am I going to need legal services?” The panic starts to settle back in.
“Well, I suspect that the Kim children are going to try and intimidate you into giving them what they think their share of the inheritance is and if you don’t I believe that they’ll take you to court.”
“TO COURT?” Jimin’s jaw drops open.
“Sadly, I believe so. You need someone who is on your side and is willing to fight for you.”
Jimin narrows his eyes. “What do you want out of it? Like a million dollars?”
Jungkook smiles and Jimin feels his heart do a tiny flip in his chest. “No not a million dollars. I mostly want it on my resume so I can move higher up in the firm I work at. But a little money doesn’t hurt of course.”
---
Jungkook feels giddy as he leaves Jimin’s apartment complex with a plan for the two of them to meet up later in the week and a new contact in his phone.
He wasn’t really expecting things to be going this well already, he thought he would have to fight a little harder to get in contact with Jimin and he thought it was going to take a lot more convincing.
But what the paper hadn’t mentioned about Jimin was that he was incredibly kind and open to help, he made that very clear within the first ten minutes of his visit.
They also didn’t mention how beautiful Jimin was but he supposed that wasn’t very important. Jimin had the kind of beauty that was so natural it made people stop when they walked past him on the sidewalks.
Jungkook shakes his head and forces the thoughts of Jimin out. He can’t be distracted by Jimin as a person, he’s working. He needs Jimin to go to court and he needs it to end well.
Plus, That man (Taehyung, Jungkook thinks his name was) was definitely Jimin’s boyfriend. They lived together.
Jimin being beautiful had to live at the back of his mind.
---
Jimin kind of feels like he’s about to take a test. His stomach feels the exact same way it would before he had to make a presentation in college. He’s standing in the coffee shop that he and Jungkook agreed on with a stack of paper stapled together gripped in one hand.
He’s trying to look as calm as possible sitting down at one of the tables with an untouched cup of black coffee in front of him but Jungkook is late and he can feel eyes on him. Maybe they shouldn’t have done this in public but for right now it was the only option. Both of them had a schedule they needed to keep, Jimin at the hospital and Jungkook at the law firm.
Jimin’s head jerks towards the door once he hears the bell on the door jingle and is relieved to see that it’s finally Jungkook.
Jungkook gives him a sheepish wave before he goes to the counter to order his drink. He comes to the table with a mug clasped in both of his hands. He’s dressed in a blue suit that fits him perfectly with a messenger bag swung over one of his shoulders.
“Sorry i’m late, I woke up a little late.” Jungkook says as he sits down. He looks guilty and a little sheepish so Jimin can’t help but forgive him.
“It’s fine.” Jimin says, “I wasn’t here for long.”
“Yeah but…” Jungkook trails off and looks around the shop. No one is staring at Jimin anymore but he can tell a lot of these people still have their attention on him.
“I’m going to have to get used to it.” Jimin brushes it off and places his paper in the middle of the table between them. “Let’s get to business, this is all the information I could think of for all of the siblings. I obviously don’t know everything but I know what mr Kim told me. They weren’t the best children.”
Jungkook grabs the paper and starts to read. He nods as he reads and Jimin hopes that means that it’s good and that it helps.
After finishing the first page, Jungkook puts the entire stack into his messenger bag. “This is good,” he says. “I’ll read the rest when I have more time but I really do think this will help. I can start to write out a defense if we ever need it with this. And we can talk about possible witnesses that would be able to confirm that they were bad children.”
Jimin nods and already starts listing people he knows would vouch for the siblings negative behavior.
“Anyway, how are you doing?” Jungkook asks as he takes a sip of his drink. Jimin is surprised that he’s asking him about his emotional state and it must show on his face.
“I mean, it’s important that you stay calm and collected through all of this to show that you are the right choice for all of the money and that you are more responsible than any of the Kims.”
“Right right.” Jimin says “I’m okay, just stressed. Also not used to all the people staring at me. I don’t even want to know what they’re thinking about.”
“You need to block all of them out. They don’t matter at all okay.” Jungkook says with such a firm authority. Jimin is jealous.
He feels like he’s about to fall apart at any second.
“You just need to pretend that you’re okay and eventually it’ll be good.” Jungkook says, sensing that Jimin wasn’t really convinced. “I’m here to help you so don’t worry ok.”
“Okay.” Jimin says trying to breathe normally.
The bell on the door rings again and Jimin looks up out of habit. He completely freezes when his eyes land one the last three people he wants to see right now.
“Oh shit.” Jimin whispers, wasting no time diving under the table to hide.
“What the-” Jungkook says, ducking his head under the table so he can look at Jimin. “What is going on.”
“Those are the siblings!” Jimin whispers furiously while pointing.
Jungkook looks up for a moment and leans back down with panic in his eyes.
“What the fuck did they follow me here or something?” Jimin whispers, his panic growing.
“I’m sure it’s just a weird coincidence.” Jungkook tries to console. “We’ll get out of here, don't worry.”
Jungkook looks up a second time and after a moment, drags Jimin off the floor. Most of the customers were staring at him but he could see that all the brothers were still ordering their coffee so he didn’t really care.
“Okay, we’re going to briskly walk towards the other exit over there,” Jungkook points at the secondary exit across the room. “And we’re going to keep our backs to them at all times and before you know it we’ll be out of here.”
Jimin nods and grabs all of his things, letting Jungkook calmly lead them to the other door. He doesn’t look back once even though he desperately wants to.
He doesn’t look back until he’s closed the door behind him and sees that all three brothers are staring at him with smirks on their faces. Jimin feels sick to his stomach.
“How about I drive you to work since our meeting got cut short.” Jungkook says.
Jimin doesn’t really feel like he can walk to work anymore so he agrees.
“Now, this was what I was worried about.” Jungkook starts as the two of them settle in his car. “I want to believe that that was a coincidence but the way they all smiled at you was very creepy. I’m worried that they’re going to try and intimidate you into giving up the money.”
“Intimidate me?!” Jimin exclaims. “Like threatening me?”
“In a way…” Jungkook trails off. “More like they’re going to continually try and convince you to give up the money to all of them instead of accepting it for yourself.”
“Can they do that?” Jimin asks, horrified.
“Technically no but when it comes to high profile cases like this, the law lets a lot slide under the table. Plus they can argue that they were just giving you advice and not trying to convince you.”
Jimin crosses his arms and tries to look like he’s not pouting. “This isn’t fair, why did this have to happen to me.”
Jungkook turns to him and Jimin wants to yell at him to keep his eyes on the road. “Look this is a lot of money you’re going to be getting, life changing money. Do not let some spoiled rich kids ruin that for you.”
It’s silent in the car for a moment before Jungkook starts to talk again.
“Look, maybe just avoid going outside into the public for unnecessary things for a while just to make sure they don’t come and harass you. Just go to work and come back. You can get your boyfriend to do all the shopping and stuff.”
Jimin looks at him puzzled. “I don’t have a boyfriend? Where did you get that idea?”
“Oh.” Jungkook just says simply but doesn’t elaborate.
The car comes to a stop in front of the hospital Jimin works at so he opens the door and hops out. “Thanks for the ride Jungkook.”
“Let me know if you have any more Kim problems okay? Remember i’m here to help you.”
Jimin nods and Jungkook drives away out of sight.
---
Jungkook sits in his living room flipping through the pages of notes about the lives of the Kims that Jimin provided him with. It’s filled with exactly what he expected, spoiled rich kids being spoiled rich kids.
He was getting more and more convinced that this was going to be an easy victory for him when they went to court.
But the thought of court takes Jungkook back to earlier in the day when a tired Jimin dressed down in scrubs with bags under his eyes who still looked beautiful somehow had asked him why all of this had to be happening to him.
He felt bad for the man. He really didn’t deserve to be going through all of this. The siblings were clearly going to be a problem and for a moment Jungkook hopes that this doesn’t end in a court case.
But, he needs it if he wants this to make him stand out in his law firm. He forces Jimin’s face out of his head and gets back to reading the papers in front of him.
But at the back of his mind the fact that Jimin doesn’t have a boyfriend keeps on trying to force its way forward.
---
Jimin feels more exposed than he ever has in his entire life. Even though the bar is dark and crowded, he still feels like he’s being watched.
Earlier today Taehyung had come home from work to find Jimin lying on the couch rewatching kdramas yet agin. He told Jimin that this was getting sad and that it was a friday night so they should go out. Jimin tried to say no, told him that he was suppose to lay low but saying no to Taehyung never worked out very well.
Plus, it had been a week since Jimin had gone anywhere besides work and he was desperate to get out of their apartment. So he dressed himself up in his tightest pair of leather pants and let Taehyung force him out the door.
“Come on!” Taehyung grabs his hand and fully drags him towards the bar.
Even though no one is looking at them, Jimin still feels like all their eyes are on him. He’s gotten used to it.
“You need to calm down.” Taehyung says once they reach the bar, grabbing on to both of his shoulders to look him in the eyes. “With your makeup and your hair styled differently no one is going to recognize you I promise.”
Jimin nods mutely and Taehyung breaks out into a smile. “Great! Now let’s have some fun and forget all the hell that this past month has been for you!”
Taehyung orders two shots of vodka for them and holds one out to Jimin.
“To us!” He yells.
“To us!” Jimin yells back.
The shot burns his throat but at the same time makes him more alive than he’s ever felt since the funeral.
“I need another one.” Jimin says to the bartender immediately after setting the shot glass down.
“Okay, I see how this night is going to go.” Taehyung giggles as he sets down his shot glass and motions to the bartender that he would also like another.
“Look, if i’m going to have one night free of thinking about the Kim family, I might as well make the most of it.” Jimin grabs the new shot that has been placed in front of him and downs it. “All I want is to have fun tonight.”
Taehyung laughs loud and happily and downs his own shot. “Park Jimin it’s nice to see you have some life in you again.”
He then grabs Jimin’s hand and drags him towards the dance floor. “Now let’s have some real fun.”
When He and Taehyung were back in college, getting drunk and dancing at bars was one of their favorite pastimes. Taehyung was probably the only person who could keep up with Jimin and it made for good entertainment to watch the wonder and lust on the people’s faces around them as they danced together as sensually as possible.
It also had the benefit of dancing with someone and not feeling pressured to go home with them and have sex. He and Taehyung had tried kissing before and it just felt wrong.
But, as Taehyung drags him to the middle of the dance floor and throws his hands over his shoulders, Jimin is reminded of all those carefree days where all he had to worry about was whether or not he would end up with a hangover in the morning.
“It’s been a while since we’ve done this.” Taehyung yells in his ear, his hips moving along with Jimin’s to the music bumping through the entire bar.
“Yeah, honestly I missed this. I didn’t realize how much I did until right now.” Jimin yells back. “Life has been so weird I feel like I forgot what it was like to just exist.”
Taehyung doesn’t respond but he pulls Jimin closer to him as if to consult Jimin and tell him that it’s all going to be okay. Taehyung is a good friend.
With the vodka making everything soft around the edges and the music flowing through his veins, Jimin finds himself actually having a good time.
He can see people in his peripheral vision eyeing him and Taehyung up and knows that it’s not because he’s enerinted a fortune worth millions of dollars.
He knows he cleans up nicely and he knows he’s hot. It’s nice to be able to remember that fact.
After the fourth song comes to an end, Jimin pulls away from Taehyung. “I’m going to go get another drink.” He yells into Taehyung’s ear.
Taehyung nods but his eyes are elsewhere. “I’m going to stay here is that okay?”
Jimin looks behind him and sees that Taehyung has locked eyes with a beautiful man from across the room. Jimin laughs, of course Taehyung could pull someone from this far away while dancing with another man. “I’m good, go make out with that guy.”
Taehyung gives him a huge appreciative smile. “Thank you, let me know if you need me or want to leave or something okay?”
Jimin nods and watches as Taehyung confidently struts across the dancefloor over to the man. Taehyung always had so much more confidence that attracted people who actually wanted to date him than Jimin was. It frustrated and impressed him to no ends.
Jimin makes his way back over to the bar and orders a simple vodka lemonade that he can sip on while he watches the dancefloor.
He leans his back against the bartop and looks out into the crowd, letting his mind wander a bit thinking about his past.
He’s thinking about one of his ex boyfriends when he feels a presence next to him. He looks over and is met with the sly grin of Hoseok. Jimin’s mind goes into panic mode.
“Why hello Jimin, fancy seeing you here!” He says, sickeningly sweet. Jimin feels nauseous.
“Did you follow me here?” Jimin asks, unable to keep a false kindness when he has this much vodka in his system.
“Now why would I do that?!” Hoseok says, placing a hand over his heart like he’d been hurt. “We’ve known each other for such a long time can I not come over and say hello?”
“We do not know each other.” Jimin grumbles “I met you one time before the funeral.”
“Well, I wish we had known each other better, isn’t that worth something?”
Jimin just rolls his eyes.
“While i’m here, we might as well discuss something important. I thinking, you should give up my father’s inheritance and give it back to us.”
Jimin looks at him in shock. “And why would I do that?”
“Because you don’t deserve it! You’re just some poor nurse that coherised my father into thinking that he was more deserving of his money than his own children. Of course you should give up the money. It’s not yours to keep.”
Jimin can feel tears stinging at the corners of his eyes. He chugs the rest of his vodka lemonade and sets the glass back down on the counter behind him. “You don’t know anything about me or the relationship between me and your father!”
Jimin stomps away over to where the bathrooms are before Hoseok can even respond. He locks himself in a stall and lets the tears fall.
His phone is blurry through his tears but he has no idea what to do. Hoseok is still out there and he can’t leave this bathroom alone.
He tries Taehyung’s number but it goes to voicemail and his texts continue to be unread even after fifteen minutes of waiting.
Jimin is about to give up and let himself die in this bathroom when another person comes to mind.
He fumbles with his phone before he lands on the number.
“Hello.” a gruff and tired voice answers. Jimin feels ecstatic.
“Jungkook thank god you answered.” Jimin says, his voice sounding a little too slurred.
“Jimin? What’s going on, why are you calling me? And why do you sound drunk?”
“Long story short, one of the Kim siblings found me while I was out at a bar with my friend and cornered me and now I'm in the bathroom hiding.”
There’s a silence on the other end followed by a deep sigh. “You know, I've never had to come save one of my clients before.” Jungkook says. There’s some rustling noises that sound like he’s moving around the room. “What bar are you at? I can come get you and take you home.”
“Really?” Jimin can’t believe Jungkook is doing this for him. He really hadn’t expected to actually be saved when he called Jungkook, honestly he thought he would just get advice.
“Yeah, I'll come and get you from the bathroom. Where are you?”
“I’m at the ON bar downtown.”
“Oh, the gay bar. Okay i’ll be there in ten minutes.” Jimin blushes at his words even though there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.
Jimin hangs up and settles down on the bathroom floor. It’s disgusting here and he knows he should get up but he really cannot make himself. He checks his phone again to see if Tae has responded to anything but to no avail. He must have gotten really lucky with the guy he saw earlier.
Normally Jimin would be excited for him but all he feels now is bitterness and a touch of jealousy. Not only was Tae not available in his time of need, he also wishes that it was him who was getting a hookup with a stranger and not hiding out in a bathroom to avoid the crazy sons of their old employer.
Jimin’s life has gotten so weird, he really hasn’t had any time to process it.
“Jimin?” a voice breaks through his thoughts. Jimin pulls himself off the floor and slowly opens the stall door. Jungkook is searching the room dressed in a pair of jeans and a plain white t shirt. It’s the first time Jimin has ever seen the other man dressed down and it’s doing things to him.
No man should look that good in such a boring outfit.
“There you are.” Jungkook says, forcing Jimin to take his attention off of his bicep.
“Here I am!” Jimin says cheerfully. Clearly there was still too much alcohol left in his system.
Jungkook gives him a soft smile and reaches for his arm to start to drag him out the bathroom door. “Just stay close to me and we’ll get out of here super quick okay?” Jimin nods and let’s Jungkook hold onto him as they make their way through the bar.
“There he is! Jimin!” a loud voice says behind them. Jimin turns around horrified to find that Hoseok has now been joined by Seokjin and they’re both giving him horrifying smiles.
Jungkook notices that Jimin has come to a complete stop and turns around as well. His eyes go hard once he realizes who they’re looking at.
“Excuse us.” Jungkook says with no emotion.
Hoseok narrows his eyes. “Who the hell are you? I’ve never seen you around, only that tall boy with the fancy hair that looks like a Gucci model.” Jimin can’t help but giggle at that description of Taehyung.
“I’m his boyfriend.” Jungkook says firmly. Both Seokjin and Hoseok raise their eyebrows. “Now, if you’ll excuse us, I have to get my boyfriend home before he throws up.”
Both Hoseok and Seokjin take a big step back and Jungkook takes the opportunity to continue to drag Jimin to the exit.
“That was really quick thinking.” Jimin slurs, impressed with Jungkook.
“Yeah, well I am a lawyer. I basically lie for a living.” Jungkook says, carefully maneuvering Jimin to where his car was parked.
The car ride was as quiet as Jimin had expected it to be. Honestly, he was try as hard as possible to not actually throw up in Jungkook's nice clean car.
“We’re here.” Jungkook says softly as he comes to a slow stop. Jimin looks out the window and sure enough his apartment complex is in view. “Do you need any help getting into your apartment at all?”
Jimin shakes his head. “No, I'll be able to make it back up there. I’ve made it home way drunker than this.”
“Yeah well that was before the country had its eyes on you because you inherited a fortune.”
Jimin laughs and Jungkook laughs along with him. It feels nice to joke about the situation.
“I have a question.” Jimin asks, thinking back to the bar.
“Yeah?”
“Why did you say you were my boyfriend and not my friend or something?”
Jungkook is quiet for a moment like he wasn’t really sure. “It was the quickest way to convince them that you had to go home. The puking threat alone might not have done it all the way.”
Jimin supposes that makes sense but they’re this part of his brain that wants to push it further and maybe even move a little closer to Jungkook.
He takes a deep breath and opens the passenger door. He’s too drunk for this and he just needs to get a nice long sleep in before he does anything else.
“Thanks for coming and saving me, you really didn’t need to do that.”
“I know,” Jungkook says with a smile. “But weirdly enough I actually care about you and your case so i’m happy to help. Stay out of trouble and try to not go to any more bars.”
Jimin gives him a huge smile before he shuts the door behind him. He doesn’t hear Jungkook drive off until he’s walking inside.
---
Jungkook keeps replaying the night over and over in his head as he drives home. Why did he say that Jimin was his boyfriend? He could have gotten him out of there without lying about their relationship status.
Maybe it was because Jimin looked particularly good that night. He’s only seen Jimin in his work scrubs or casual clothing so the leather pants and the loose top and the eye makeup was a lot to take in. He looked good even after he sat on the ground of a bathroom for more than twenty minutes. No one should be able to do that.
The idea of having Jimin go to court was becoming less and less appealing.
He has to come to terms with the fact that he cares about this person more than he should.
---
Jimin’s head is pounding when he wakes up.
There’s a cup of coffee, a cup of water, and a bottle of painkillers on his night stand and he thanks all the gods in the world for bringing Taehyung into his life.
He downs both the water and the coffee down in ten minutes and gives himself a few more minutes of silence before he gets up and tries to find his roommate.
Taehyung is in the kitchen humming as he cooks something on the stove. Jimin hooks his head over his shoulder and is pleased to see that it’s ramen.
“Oh thank god, you are my savior.” Jimin groans.
Taehyung laughs. “This is me apologizing for abandoning you last night.” I didn’t see any of your texts until I was done with the guy I met last night. I took an uber back home so quickly, I was so glad to see you asleep in bed.”
“Taeeee.” Jimin whines. “You didn’t need to come back so quickly, Jungkook came and took me home.”
Taehyung’s brows furrow. “Jungkook? Like your lawyer?”
“The very same.”
“Your super hot lawyer came and picked you up from a gay bar late at night because why exactly?”
“He was just being nice. I called him and told him about the siblings so he probably just didn’t want me to ruin anything.”
Taehyung is still looking at him suspiciously so Jimin gives in.
“Okay so maybe he lied to the siblings and told them he was my boyfriend so we could escape. He also looked really hot, I could really see his arms.”
Taehyung’s face slowly transforms into a huge smile. “I fucking KNEW this would happen oh my god you two are so going to fuck.”
“TAE!” Jimin exclaims. “That’s so bad! He’s working my case. I'm pretty sure it wouldn’t end well if we hooked up.”
Taehyung just rolls his eyes. “You make excuses for everything but fine. You can bang after this is all over but either way you two are going to do it. I have a fifth sense for this type of thing.”
Jimin wan’t to refute but sadly he knows that Taehyung is right. He knows when people are into each other and knows if they’re actually going to do anything or not. He’s been right about all of Jimin’s past relationships.
---
Jimin received the call on a Thursday evening the following week. There wasn’t anything special about the day really, the sky was grey and Jimin had collapsed on his couch the moment he got home.
Then he got the call.
“Hello?’ Jimin had answered tiredly, he hoped it wasn’t one of the siblings using his phone number to reach him now.
“Is this Park Jimin?” a deep voice asks.
“Yes it is.” Jimin sits up straighter, anxiety pooling in his stomach. This sounded serious. “I am a lawyer from the Kim Joonho estate and I just wanted to inform you that the will has been accepted and that you are now in full possession of the Kim inheritance.”
Jimin’s face breaks into a smile and he wants to jump and scream. “That’s great, thank you so much.” He says, trying to keep his voice professional even though he’s sure he failed.
“Our lawyers will contact you later this week to hash out all the details.” He says.
“That sounds great. Thank you.” Jimin says before the line goes dead. He finally gives in and jumps off the couch and starts to cheer.
Taehyung pops his head out of his bedroom door, his hair mussed from sleep. “What are you yelling about, I'm trying to nap.”
Jimin smiles “I just got the inheritance.”
Taehyung’s eyes bulge. “Holy shit that’s huge!”
“I know!” Jimin cheers. “OH! I have to call Jungkook!” he picks up his phone and heads to his room.
“I see you have to make this phone call in private.” Taehyung teases before Jimin closes the door behind him.
He flops down on his bed and calls the contact that he's gotten a little too familiar with in the past week.
“Jimin? What’s wrong are you okay?” Jungkook answers. He sounds so worried that Jimin has to giggle.
“I’m fine. I actually have some good news to share with you.”
“Good news?” Jungkook questions.
“Yeah. the lawyers from the Kim estate just called me and told me that I am officially in possession of the inheritance.”
“Oh my god!” Jungkook cheers into the phone. “That’s great! I mean the siblings can still take you to court and they probably will now that you’re in full possession of it oh I should look over all the notes we took earlier-”
“Jungkook.” Jimin interrupts his rambling, “We can worry about that later, right now I just want to celebrate.”
“Celebrate?” Jungkook asks with a hint of a smile in his voice.
“Yeah um.” Jimin clears his throat hoping that this goes over as well as he hopes it will. “I was thinking that I should treat you to dinner for helping me with everything…”
“Oh..” Jungkook says. “I mean it’s not over yet but….okay I would love to have dinner with you.”
“Oh! Great! Are you free tomorrow night?”
“Yes yeah absolutely.” Jungkook says immediately “I am free, where did you want to go?”
“Oh that’s great um...I was thinking about that new restaurant downtown. I’ve heard they have great wine.” Jimin stutters, surprised by Jungkook enthusiasm.
“That sounds great! I can pick you up around seven if that’s okay.” Jungkook says.
“Yeah that sounds good! It’s a date!” Jimin says without thinking about it.
The line is silent until Jungkook speaks again.
“Okay, i’ll see you tomorrow.” He says quickly.
“See ya.” Jimin says just as nervous and hangs up the phone.
As soon as Jimin let’s the phone fall onto his bed, the door of his room bursts open.
“I hear someone has a date!” Taehyung cheers, looking considerably more awake now.
“What the fuck? Were you listening the entire time?” Jimin whines.
“Of course I was!” Taehyung says cheerfully as he sits down at the end of Jimin’s bed. “How else was I going to find out that you asked your lawyer out on a date.”
“It’s not a date.” Jimin whines, hiding his head in one of his pillows.
“You literally said ‘it’s a date’ I heard it.” Taehyung deadpans. Jimin was going to have to have a serious conversation with him about privacy.
“It was just a slip of the tongue.” Jimin argues.
“Right.” Taehyung says sarcastically. “And when you guys fuck afterwards then what?”
“Taehyung!” Jimin yells, throwing his pillow at his friends face. He catches before it can hit him and Jimin sulks in disappointment.
“All i’m saying is that this is going to be more than just a congratulatory dinner.” Taehyung says gently, like he’s afraid of scaring Jimin off.
“It’s not like that.” Jimin swears even though he knows that at least for himself, this was in fact more than a congratulatory dinner.
---
Jungkook always dresses well, you had to when you wanted to be respected in a courtroom. But as he stands in front of his mirror in his bedroom with practically all of his shirts lying on the floor he realizes that he doesn’t know how to dress when he wants to actually impress someone.
He throws yet another failed shirt on the floor and groans. None of these are going to impress Jimin, none of these are going to make the blonde nurse look at him and see him as a man and not just a lawyer.
The clock is ticking closer and closer to seven and Jungkook is starting to panic. He grabs another shirt out of his closet and tries it on. It’s a silk shirt that still has the tag on it and when Jungkook looks in the mirror he feels like someone going on a date. He smiles at himself and finally starts to head out the door.
He’s silent the entire ride over to Jimin’s apartment, taking the time to breathe and tell himself over and over to not embarrass himself.
Jimin is dressed miles better than he is with a colorful button up shirt paired with a pair of slacks. It has Jungkook’s heart racing an unnecessary amount.
“Hi” Jimin blushes as he opens the door to Jungkook’s car.
“Hi” Jungkook responds back a little breathlessly.
The ride to the restaurant is filled with tension and neither of them seem to be able to form a single thought, deciding instead to sit in the car in silence with only the sound of the local radio station playing in the background.
Jungkook spent the entire ride trying his hardest not to stare and Jimin and trying to think of literally anything to say. He and Jimin have never had a problem conversing before, why was it so hard all of a sudden?
Their silence continued as they walked into the restaurant and took their seats. Their table was lit only by the low light above them and was pretty secluded from the rest of the restaurant.
It was very romantic and it made Jungkook sweat even more than he already was.
“Thanks for agreeing to come here with me.” Jimin says bashfully as he settles into his seat.
“Of course.” Jungkook says, happy to finally have something to say. “This place is beautiful. I'm glad you suggested it.”
The waitress makes her way over and Jimin orders a bottle of wine right away. It’s a chadany and Jungkook finds himself thoroughly enjoying it even though he’s not really a wine guy.
Jimin holds out his glass with what can only be described as a suggestive smirk “Cheers to me.”
Jungkook breaks into a smile. “Cheers to you.” Their wine glasses chime together.
The wine loosens the two of them up and they fall into an easy conversation that the both of them have grown used to.
The food comes and they have more and more wine. Jimin starts laughing harder and Jungkook is unable to take his eyes off of him.
Jimin reaches across the table and takes Jungkook’s hand into his own as he tells a story about something Taehyung did this past week. Jungkook is having a hard time concentrating with Jimin’s soft skin on his own.
Jimin looks at him through half lidded eyes and brushes his legs against Jungkook’s under the table as Jungkook tells him a story about Namjoon. He loses his place at least four times but Jimin doesn’t seem to notice.
When they’re finished with their food and their wine, Jimin grabs the check before Jungkook can and tells him that he’ll pay for it.
“I’m the multi millionaire now.” He says cheekily and Jungkook throws his head back and laughs.
When they leave, Jimin slides his hand into Jungkook’s and neither of them mention it.
They separate when they get to the car but once Jungkook backs up he takes Jimin’s hand in his own once again. He rubs his thumb over the top of Jungkook’s hand and Jungkook struggles to focus on the round in front of him.
When they finally reach Jimin’s apartment, the nurse turns to him with a shy smile on his face, still holding onto his hand.
“Tonight was really nice, thanks for coming with me.”
“Thank you for inviting me.” Jungkook says breathlessly, not wanting Jimin to leave.
There is a beat of silence but then Jimin is letting go of Jungkook’s hand and opening the door.
The cold night air hits Jungkook and forces him to see the cruel reality of Jimin walking away from him.
He sits in the car and watches him until he disappears into the building, already wishing that he could see him again.
---
Jimin wakes up a little to giddy. He had a great time with Jungkook last night and even if it didn’t end quite the way he had hoped, it still left him hopeful for the future of the two of them.
He walks out into the living room and is met with the sight of Taehyung nursing a cup of coffee.
“You look happy this morning.” He teases. “Did someone get laid last night?”
Jimin swats Taehyung’s chest and pours himself a cup of coffee. “I did not! You heard me come home last night, it wasn’t that late.”
Taehyung shrugs. “I don’t know your life, maybe you had car sex?”
Jimin is about to argue when there’s a firm knock on their door. Jimin and Taehyung look at each other in confusion, neither of them were expecting anyone.
The knocks come again, this time more aggressive, and Jimin feels fear settle into the pit of his stomach. He has a bad feeling about this.
He slowly moves and opens the door. Standing in the doorway with all of their arms crossed are all of the Kim siblings.
“Um..hi?” Jimin says, already sweating.
“Hello.” Seokjin says coldly.
“Let’s cut to the chase.” Hoseok intervenes. “We’re here to tell you that we’re taking you to court.”
Yoongi silently hands him a stack of paperwork and Jimin looks at it silently.
“We think that you manipulated our father into giving you the inheritance and we intend to get it back into the family no matter what.” Seokjin says.
Jimin stares at them all silently, at a complete loss for words.
“You are so entitled.” Jimin says quietly. All three brothers wip around to look at him. “I was with your father almost every single day for the last two years of his life and the three of you were never to be seen. I could count on one hand how many times I saw any of you in that house during my time there. You think you deserve this inheritance when you did nothing for your father. You all left straight after your mother’s funeral and I was the one that helped your father through his grief!!! Maybe if you weren’t all so obsessed with yourselves he would have left you something!”
He slams the door on their shocked faces, breathing hard.
“Wow Jimin that was…” Taehyung trails off. “That was brave of you.”
“I need a minute.” Jimin breaths before pulling out his phone. Tears are already starting to form in his eyes as he starts to call Jungkook.
“What’s up Jimin?” He answers happily.
“I-the Kim siblings show up and...and they’re taking me to court.” Jimin says wetly, the tears starting to make their way down his face.
“What?!” Jungkook says, his voice now serious. “Okay I have to organize all my files on them but don’t worry we can win this, I know we can.”
Jimin sniffles. “Okay Jungkook I trust you-”
There’s a knocking at the front door again and Jimin stiffins. Is it the siblings again.
“I’ll talk to you later, Jungkook I have to go.”
“Jimin wait-” Jimin hangs up on him and marches back towards the door, wiping his tears and throwing the door open.
The three Kim siblings stand there but they don’t like mad like they usually do, they actually look sad.
“Jimin, you’re right.” Seokjin says softly. “We abandoned our father at the end of his life and we do not deserve any of his fortune.”
“We got so shaken up by our mother’s death that we abandoned the person who needed our support the most.” Hoseok says tearfully.
“We decided not to take you to court after all.” Yoongi says. “We decided that our father’s last wish should be respected..”
There’s a beat of silence and Jimin finally sees the three brothers as they truly were. Three scared and sad men who had lost both of their parents and were completely unequipped to deal with it.
“I understand that grief can make you act up.” Jimin says carefully. “And I suppose I never really knew any of you that well before your mother died but...I forgive you. I really do.”
They all give him a soft smile. “I hope you have a good rest of your life Jimin.” Seokjin says softly before the three of them turned around to leave.
Jimin watched them walk away before disappearing down the apartment staircase before he closed the apartment door.
---
Jungkook was driving as fast as he possibly could. There was a pile of paperwork in the passenger seat that he was hoping wouldn’t go flying everywhere but he needed to get to Jimin as fast as he could.
Jimin was crying and stressed and Jungkook needed to be there for him. He needed to console him.
He had wanted this moment when he first talked to Jimin, he wanted the three brothers to take him to court so he could prove himself but now all he felt was complete and utter dread.
He didn’t want Jimin to have to go through with this.
He finally parks his car in front of Jimin’s apartment complex and gathers all the documents into his arms.
He feels a little bit like a madman running across the grass desperately holding on to a stack of paper with both of his arms but he doesn’t really care. All he can think about is Jimin crying over the phone.
He races up the steps and reaches Jimin’s apartment door. He balances the documents on one arm and knocks on the door.
The door opens to reveal Jimin, he doesn’t look like he’s been crying. In fact he looks like he’s glowing, his eyes shining.
“Jimin I came here as soon as I could-”
Before Jungkook can finish his thought, Jimin pulls him in by the collor of his shirt and smashes their lips together.
Jungkook drops all the documents on the floor not caring about them anymore and raises his hands up to rest on Jimin’s face.
Jungkook’s bones feel like they’re on fire, he’s never kissed someone where he felt like he was feeling everything at once.
The two slowly separate and Jungkook stares at Jimin with what he can only assume looks like wonder.
“What was that?” He asks dazily.
“A thank you. For everything.” Jimin says sweetly. “The Kim brothers dropped the case completely. It’s done.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened. “They dropped the case? Why?”
Jimin shrugs. “I told them what I really thought of them and they changed their mind.”
Jungkook smiles. “Park Jimin, you are so different from what I assumed.”
“Better I hope?”
“So much better.”
Jimin looks down at his hands and then back at Jungkook. “Look I really like you and I was kind of hoping that we could maybe continue to see each other?”
Jungkook breaks into a huge smile. “I would really really love that.”
Jimin smiles back. “Okay great...um...would you like to come in?” He gestures to the living room behind him and Jungkook nods.
He follows Jimin into his apartment and leaves all the paperwork scattered outside his door.
