A car crash ends a man's life, while a woman he's never seen before restarts it.

Chapter 1: Forgotten Vow

Chapter Text

As the sky grew darker, dark enough to say that it was nighttime outside, it was visibly stressing for me to hustle in the dark corners of the not-so well lit road, in fact, not even my headlights made a difference, and they recently just got changed today!

I slowly tap the circumference of the steering wheel like what I'd do with a drum set, avoiding the mishap of accidentally hitting the paddle shifters or pressing the horn, waiting for the very, very weak street lights to go green.

It's been four minutes already, and there seems to be no speed camera in sight. It's tempting...

My fingers one by one tap the top of the wheel in rhythmic bursts, a deniable sign of impatience.

*click*

Finally, the green light. Lightly feathering the gas, I manage to find myself in an accelerating car, using both hands to turn the steering wheel to the right. Even through that, the road still was very dark; I had to struggle through the very limited light emitted from the front.

I spot something orange my lit-up field of view. It had a reflecting material run around the width of it. Maybe I shouldn't go this way...

I give my brakes a little nudge, and-

They're not working...

Quick, Renzo...what can I do in this situation!?

Aha! Got it...

My hand travels to the right side of the panel and I purposely rip the e-brake, sending the rear wheels to lock in position. I sure am slowing down now, but my car-

My car made a 180 degree turn, and I hear the screeching of rubber. Upon looking through the windshield, I saw nothing but tire marks on the road, as well as smoke that corresponded to said tire mark. Well, at least I stopped, I just need to drive away now.

Wait, there's light. It was similar to the one that guided me down the roads.

They're headlights...

...

"Ah!"

My chest feels tense, and my palms are beginning to get sweaty the more I look at myself. Upon further examining my body, I find nothing but cleanliness, no injuries, no scars, no cuts, nothing. Even my face feels smooth, and I don't remember the last time shaving. I can feel myself, and that means that I'm not dead, I believe. Phew, it must've been a horrible nightmare, then.

I look down, disoriented, and realize that I'm dressed in white. A t-shirt and a pair of loosely-fitted pants, obviously sleepwear. It's super comfortable, almost something God would want to wear. And what am I on? Why is it super soft? Oh, it's a bed. A really big one...

I toy around with the crumpled sheets. They're really comfortable too; it relaxed me the more I fidgeted with it.

The more I ventured into the bed, the more I found white. It was white everywhere, so white that I could say that I woke up in the middle of a salt flat. It's comfortable here, very, very comfortable.

Wait, there's a break in the white. It's a faint white-ish color, almost like really fair skin. Could it be that there's another person in this bed? This could mean something to me...

I travel to the difference. It emitted a light breathing noise. It's alive. It's...cute, very cute female. She had hair of the similar hue as the entire bed, and her mouth had a breathing opening fit for a straw, little lines of drool rolled out of them. Shit, I shouldn't be here.

And not to mention that she's massive. Look at those things, they're so unreasonably proportioned! There's so much on her chest that her arms had become thin enough to wrap my index and thumb around them, well, at least it looked like it.

It's like I know her, but at the same time, I don't... no. I don't know her. My mind must me sputtering right now.

As much as I wanted to further my exploration on Asset Impossible, I didn't know her, and it's going to be hecka scary once she wakes up.

I feel myself silently shaking, mixed feelings in my chest ranging from what I can guess is anxiety and worry. I don't know this woman, and how did I wake up beside her? Crap, I'm gonna get in so much trouble once she wakes up...

I gently crawl away from the bed, my feet dangling very close to what I can feel is a cold, polished floor. The transition from warm friction on the sheets to the cold floor sucked, making me have to stand on my toes to avoid further discomfort, and the slight chance of waking her up.

I feel sweaty right now. I need to get out.

Aha! The door's just right there, time to make my break.

"Mmm~" she groaned. Even from here, I feel her beginning to stretch. "Renzo? Where are you....?~"

How does she know my name?

I turn around. She's right there, sitting upright while rubbing her weirdly visible red eyes and her puffy white hair, all in her loosely-fit sleeping gown. She was beautiful, and there was no was that I'd score a woman like that, but I don't know her...yet.

A wide smile along with a chuckle grew from her as I continued staring at her, observing all of her body, and all of my surroundings. There's no escape other than this door that I'm gripping behind me right now. I have to take this opportunity.

She spoke with a chuckle. "Renzo? You're acting weird today. Come here..."

Great, and she's British, too. That's hot.

I struggle to twist the door handle, which looks like it didn't please her at all; that happy response she had just a second ago looked like it transformed into worry. At least it looked like she was worried, her lips were quivering, and her eyes kind of widened, I think...

She spoke again, this time, louder. "Renzo? Are you alright? Perhaps you're excited to make breakfast...?"

The door handle was within my grasp. Time to make my run...

Nudging on the handle, the door opens wide in front of me, scared as I start running away from her, through the unknown second floor of this house, one of which I don't know of. I gotta say, though. It's a pretty nice house, and with a pretty beautiful woman like her, this place could be Heaven itself.

It looked like she followed my pace, as it didn't take too long for her to follow me, worriedly stopping her footsteps as she observed me, and my surroundings.

While we stared at each other, I took the chance to finally speak. "W-who are you...?!"

She seemed worried and upset, walking towards me slowly as if I was a wild animal. "Enough joking around, dear. You're starting to get me worried..."

I began screaming, threatening to hurt her with whatever objects I could throw. "Who are you!?"

She braced herself tightly, crouching down with her hands all over her face, letting only an inch for a peephole. "Renzo... how could you forget your wife, Sirius...."

As a warning shot, I throw some soil at her, which was more than enough to make her flinch, quivering eyes now locked on to me as I grab another fistful. Some of these weird stone balls hit her in the waist, I think.

Her voice began breaking down. "Please, Renzo. You're scaring me..."

Not a kidnapper. Scratch that off the list.

I take a step back, holding the now-present handrail that has appeared on my right. I'm going to use this to push myself for a boost, just in case things go ugly...

It was all scary. How perfect and reserved this woman was to how divine this house was. Whoever I was in this time must've found a smooth ride down life.

Should I want my life like this? Am I stealing this life from Renzo? Am I stealing it from myself?

She starts collapsing on the floor, hands still on her face. "You should've told me that I wasn't good enough for you, Renzo..." Sirius paused, using the neck of her gown to wipe her face. "You didn't have to spend that kind of money on me... why are you doing this to me...?"

Alright, fair play. A crying woman, and a place I don't even have the slightest knowledge of. Just great...

You know what, I guess I can offer her some of my help, maybe try to convince her that I actually don't know her, or something.

I take a step, and-

I'm being lifted right now. Oh, heavenly Father, what is going on with me?

Sirius screams, frightened. "Renzo!"

I cock my head and watch as the first floor, as well as the ballisters appear in my plain sight, leaving me confused.

Ouch, ow ow ow....

There's a sharp pain in my head, and my vision's growing blurry again. Through the eye fog, I see Sirius running down, before her face was inches apart mine, her tears getting me wet everywhere as I start feeling sleepy again.

Get off of me, Sirius.

...

"Ow."

My eyes feel like opening themselves. In fact, they just did right now. How silly of them.

I can hardly think, now that I have fallen down the stairs. It's like my head both imploded anr exploded at the same time. It's numb, and it hurts alot...

I feel something cold on top of my head. It's soft and baggy, almost like a shirt, but at the same time, it was sort of round, and I felt like it could fall of any time soon. So, I shook it off, because it made my head itch a little, and I hope that's alright.

Im back on the bed, the same plushy white bed. How fortunate. But hey, luckily I wasn't strapped onto anything kinky or worrying, so I had the freedom to move away again, or some doomy evil kidnapping lair with Sirius all suited up for torture.

I twist my head to the right and there she was another woman, hair of the darker complexion, sitting there all professional and happy. Well, to be fair, that happy face came from me looking at her, so... yeah.

And not to mention that she's absolutely packing! What the hell, she's almost as stacked as that other lady!

Wait, where is she anyways? Eh, doesn't matter.

I begin staying quiet again as I observe her, well, uhm. It doesn't matter on where I observer her, but ah, crap. I'm ignoring this beauty. It's a real struggle to leave the bed with her surrounding me, but it's also a must.

Out of nowhere, she pulls out a bottle of water, ice cold as she handed it to me with both hands.

Yeah, no kinks and violence here. Pretty sure delusional kidnappers and kinky people don't give their victims some refreshments.

"Please drink..." she whispered as she adjusted her hair.

My lips are chappy, so this should be nice.

I slowly felt the cold water run down my throat, some coming from the gaps between my teeth, beside my cheeks, and even directly from the nozzle. My head cleared up in a little moment of time, and so did my thirst.

I muttered under my saliva. "Thanks."

I toyed around with my fingers for a little bit, breaking down in sweat and anxiety. She seems to have taken notice, since she's stuttering on something she's trying to say.

She spoke, her voice a surely refined one. "Your wife is crying downstairs, tsk tsk. Has your mother taught you about how to treat women like that?~"

It took seconds for me to start speaking again, as to this lack of context I had. "I'm not married...?"

"Ah, then an interrogation awaits us then, Renzo~" she smiled. "Please co-operate with me."

Great, even she knows my name. I observed her nervously as I chuck the water bottle onto the other side of the bed.

With a grumpy voice, I spoke like she asked. "Are you a cosplayer?"

The woman didn't seem too impressed, rather, surprised with what I said. "A...what?"

"Then what's with those ears, that katana, the excessive uniform and those high-rise stockings, hm?"

"Oh, my ears. You've noticed." She giggled on spot for a bit, wiping scratching those black ears on top of her head. "They're real, see~?"

She wiggled them and pointed them at me, probably a gesture for me to freely touch them. They're uniquely soft, almost a similar feeling to her hair; the form and temperature of it was the only difference.

"My name is Atago, just in case you forgot~"

"Atago? Japanese?" I asked, probably since it's my first time meeting a Japanese.

I must say, if she is, then the Japanese must be really living up to their stereotypes and their modern personas.

"Japa- what? Is that supposed to mean something?~"

This is going nowhere. Abort.

"Nevermind..." I replied back, watching her sit down to my level.

"You're currently at your house. Your wife, Sirius, a former Royal Maid is, like I said, crying downstairs. This house is right beside the Royal Navy headquarters in the Combined Port~" Atago spoke again, leaning closer, almost in an uncomfortable distance. "How did you even forget about everything in the first place?"

Wait, what? If I remember correctly, I heard Royal Navy, a port, my wife? Real animal ears?

I looked around in anxiety as I couldn't process what I just heard. None of which was similar to what I had back then, and this must be some type of prank, or dream. I may be going crazy...

Atago, who is now downing a bottle of water herself, talked again. "Sirius told me about you falling down the stairs. Does your body hurt, anything?"

I moved around a little to make sure. Surprisingly, after a little joyride down some stairs, I feel just right. All that calcium intake diets worked really well, huh...

Kudos to Dr. Moyes, then.

With a smile, I spoke back. "No, it doesn't hurt anywhere..."

"Good to hear." Atago moved back a little, quickly observing my body, head to toe while probably intentionally wriggling her other pair of ears. "Do you remember your name, and the last thing you saw before you woke up screaming at poor Sirius?"

Aww come on, don't do me like that, Atago. If you'd wake up beside another man, what would you do?

I was pretty uncertain with everything, but I still had to find my way out of here. "My name's Renzo, and I remember a pair of headlights pointed at me." I paused for a thought process. "You said my name earlier, so there's no point of asking for it."

Atago stood silent for about a minute ever since, and I gave my muscles a little test to see if any of them fell asleep, in which luckily, none of them did.

Come on, I just want to go home...

I looked at Atago for what I estimated would be the last time, ready to launch the question once she diverts her eyes onto me. She's facung the other direction now, but if she does turn her head, it's a hundred percent that she would look at me dead-on.

There we go... she's turning her head.

Aha! She noticed.

"Yes?" Atago asked. "Do you like my eyes~?"

"How far away is this port from Belfast?"

Atago didn't seem to know, her eyes showing confusion and questioning. "Belfast is...downstairs with Sirius...?"

My chest felt tight as I began chuckling to her words a little. Is this woman undereducated, or something? Come on, everyone knows about Belfast... I think....? But seriously, where am I.

"I lived in a place named Belfast." The tone of my voice involuntarily increasing must've alarmed her for a second as I watched her focus even more. "Seriously, where am I?!"

"The Combined Port, Fairhaven." Atago's tone caught up with mine.

Fairhaven sounds too fantasy-like. There is no place on Earth named like that. At least I think so, who knows. But seriously, I need outs.

With intensity, I moved away from the bed, and Atago as well, walking to the middle of the room as I started jumping up and down, squeezing the lost surprise and confusion I had stored since I woke up. My screaming echoed around the room, and it certainly didn't benefit Atago in any way as she stood there, covering her head in one of the pillows.

"Where the fuck am I?!" I repeated over and over again as I circled. My face felt tense after a while, and I began sweating, but neither of them managed to stop me. "What the fuck is a Fairhaven?!"

Atago stood up and tried to contain me by making shush noises. "Renzo, please calm down..."

I screamed louder. "No, you big-uddered bitch? What's with you and those dog ears, huh?" I inhaled. "Go back to school, or something, freshen up on Geography before you start cosplaying as a kinky prostitute workmate sailor woman!"

Before I noticed, Atago pulled her sword out and hit me with the pommel, sending an ounce of pain around my noggin.

I groaned, clutching the part where she hit me, specifically my right temple. "Ow, what the hell?"

"Kinky prostitute workmate sailor woman, huh?" Atago grunted, clearly irritated with what I said.

"I'm sorry, jeez."

Well, that hurt. Probably there to prove that I'm not dreaming again, or something. Pretty crappy now that I'm actually not dreaming, and I'm in an unfamiliar environment.

So much for my face though. It hurts now, probably since my meltdown. What a workout...

Sliding her sword back into the sheath, Atago walked away. "I'll go get Sirius for you now, I might tell her everything later on, if possible."

Her distancing footsteps were audible from here, and so was her chattering. Probably since the door was open, but that's alright.

Then there were more footsteps. This time, it sounds like ascending ones. That's Sirius, then.

I was right. Sirius walked in, eyes puffy and red, holding a ball of tissues, and her nightgown a little crumply than before. She looked away from me for a brief moment of time as we stood there with awkward distance.

I may get the feeling, marrying someone, having all sorts of fun together, and suddenly one of them forgets who you are and you have to redo that progress and whatnot...

"Atago said that you were speaking a lot of jibberish." Sirius paused to sniffle. "We'll just talk to Akashi about this tomorrow; I don't feel like doing anything today..."

I'm not even gonna bother to ask who Akashi was. All I know is that I'm lost.

Before Sirius left the room again, I caught her by her forearm, leaving her to yelp a little. I turned her around with ease as she looked at me, silently questioning.

I give my hands a little stretch before I-

"A-ah~!" Sirius emitted, unknown if she enjoyed it or not.

I backed off. "Sorry, just wanted to know if they were real."

Sirius changed the topic in an instant. "I-if you need anyt-thing, I'm downstairs, and also, feel free to use the refrigerator and anything you can get your hands on..."

"I'll probably just walk outside for a bit-"

"No, not necessary. Once they find out that you're acting weird, especially...."

Did make sense. I didn't know the place in the first, and that's not very good, is it? May get even more lost, or get myself killed by more katana-wielding, cosplaying wolf-girls or something.

"Right..." I whispered.

I seriously want to go home now.
