Four Times Gabriel Almost Confessed (and the One Time He Did)

Summary:

Gabe had been living in the bunker with Sam, Dean, Cas and Jack for a couple of months now. It was getting annoying, constantly seeing Sam getting hit-on at bars and Gabe couldn’t say anything. He stopped going out completely with them and stayed home with Jack. He sometimes went out with Cas because they could stay out later than Sam and Dean. Gabe typically did this when Sam brought a girl home. What he didn’t realize was that Sam was slowly catching on.

Basically they are hopelessly in love with each other and are too chicken to say anything to the other

Chapter 1: Drunk Sam, yelling, and almost love confessions

Chapter Text

Gabe had been living in the bunker with Sam, Dean, Cas and Jack for a couple of months now. It was getting annoying, constantly seeing Sam getting hit-on at bars and Gabe couldn’t say anything. He stopped going out completely with them and stayed home with Jack. He sometimes went out with Cas because they could stay out later than Sam and Dean. Gabe typically did this when Sam brought a girl home. What he didn’t realize was that Sam was slowly catching on.

“Gabe, I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out with me, Dean, and Cas? We were thinking about going to the usual place?”, Sam asked, lacing up his shoes.

“Nah, thanks though. I prefer to stay with Jack. Besides, me and him were planning on finishing the Mandalorian the next time you went out.” Gabe said, heading towards Jack’s room. Sam shook his head.

“When’s the last time you went out with anyone, Gabe?”

“Last Friday, when you brought home that “perfect german”, ya know, blonde hair, blue eyed floozy. Me and Cas stayed up all night and drank our troubles away.”

“What problems, could you possibly have? I mean, you can have anything you want with a simple snap,” Sam said, snarkily, tilting  his head to the side.

The problem is you never notice how much I love you and how I just want you to be happy , Gabe thought. “HOW YOU NEVER-”, Gabe started, pointing at Sam. He shook his head to get his thoughts right. “Just how you two never want to visit my family. I mean, Dean and Cas have been dating for so long it makes since you two visit dear old dad.”

“Jeez, ok then. Have fun tonight, I guess, Also, don’t call Amanda a floozy. She is a lovely girl.” Sam huffed, heading toward the car. A couple of months ago, Gabe would have jumped at the chance to get out but recently he hadn't gone out at night with Sam.

Sam missed Gabe’s company. The conversation was easy. Sam could be himself and didn’t have to hold anything back like he did with Amanda. He could talk to Gabe about  hunts , but with Amanda he was a tax filer that went out of town for business a lot. Sure, he and Amanda had sex. They had amazing sex, even. But that was about it. He imagined that with Gabe, they would have life-affirming sex and go on like, wine tasting dates.

“Day-dreaming, much Sam?”, Dean said, playfully elbowing Sam in the ribs.

“Sorry, just thinking about, er, Amanda,” Sam said. In reality he had been thinking about Gabe and if he had ruined the relationship they had. He really liked Gabe, he sometimes wondered if he liked Gabe more than the angel liked him. Gabe had seemed pretty upset tonight when Sam asked him about his problems.

“You plan on getting your freak on because if you are then, please tell me now. Last time I had to leave the bunker and find Gabe and Cas at the bar.” Dean said, doing his version of puppy dog eyes. So Gabe really hadn’t been lying.

“I mean if she’ll have me.”

“Trust me, she’ll have you.”

“Dean, Sam , as much as I am enjoying this conversation I would like to actually go to the bar and have some drinks,” Cas said, putting a hand on both of their shoulders.

“Alright, alright. Don’t get your panties in a bunch Cas.”

“But Dean, I specifically remember last time we had sex, you were the one who’s ‘panties got in a bunch’,” Cas said confused. Sam shot Dean a look.

“Alright, let’s get this show on the road,” Dean said, starting the car.

_____________

Gabe heard the Impala leave finally and went to get Jack before remembering that Jack was going on a date tonight. Alone in the bunker tonight. Yay! Well, I mean I could surprise them and go to the bar and flirt with some people, maybe bring one or two back with me. Yea, let’s do that. I mean Sam will probably be bringing home Amanda. Gabe thought to himself. Gabe put on a coat and went to tell Jack his plans to go out.

“Jack I’m headed out, do you-”, Gabe started before seeing Jack standing naked in the middle of his room, surrounded by clothes. “Jack, do you need help?”

“Yes. I have a date and she said it was casual but like formal casual. I don’t know what that means, much less what to wear.”

“Ok, so how about these jeans with this button up and the jacket you wore when you went on the case with Cas that time. The tan suit jacket?”

“Ok, Thanks Gabe, also I don’t know how to drive and she wants me to pick her up.” Gabe placed two fingers on Jack’s forehead. Jack felt Gabe’s power flowing through him.

“Now ya do. Go get’em tiger,” Gabe said, following Jack out the door. Gabe zapped himself outside of the bar after wishing Jack good luck. Gabe took a breath before walking into the bar.

Gabe headed to the side of the bar farthest away from Sam, Cas, and Dean. “Double scotch on the rocks with a twist. Thanks,” Gabe said. He turned around to spot out the club. He spotted a group of girls but they looked like they were doing drugs and while Gabe may like to drink he didn’t corrupt himself like that. He sighed, turned and downed his drink. The angel stood and headed towards the door because this bar was pretty boring on a Monday night. He thought about going to a club but his heart wasn’t in it. He pulled out his phone to check to see if Jack had contacted him for help. He suddenly walked right into someone, making them spill their drink. “Oh, I am so sorry. I was just seeing if my nephew had-”, Gabe started before seeing who it was. “Oh, Sam. Sorry gotta go.”

“Not so fast Gabe. You owe me a drink,” Sam slurred, pulling on the angel’s arm. Sam had only been gone for half an hour but he was already drunk. Gabe could smell the alcohol on his breath.

“No, Sam. You are already drunk. You could seriously hurt yourself,” Gabe said, using his grace to stay in place.

“Aww man. Come on. One more drink can’t hurt,” Sam said, clumsily sitting down on a bar stool.

“Gabe’s right, Sam. You have had at least 25 drinks in the last 30 minutes,” Dean said. “Let’s get ya home, Sammie.” Sam shook off Dean but couldn't shake the angel.

“Lemme go. Besides I’m still waiting for Amanda,” Sam said.

“Fine but you have to be with me, Dean, or Cas at all times until she gets here,” Gabe said. Dean and Cas nodded before sitting down. “Now, I gotta call Jack to make sure that he is ok.” Jack didn’t pick up the phone so Gabe just left a voicemail. Gabe came into the bar and saw Amanda downing shots with Sam. Gabe shook his head and headed over to the other side of the bar.

Sam saw Gabe come in and shake his head before heading towards the other guys. Sam felt like he had hurt the angel. He thought about heading over to the boys but Amanda had moved so she was now in his lap.

“Sammie, What do you say about going back to your place and having a little alone time,” Amanda said, her fingers trailing up to Sam’s into his hair.

She pulled him into a kiss, Sam’s stubble rubbing against her chin. She saw a guy staring at them and so she bent her head down to give him hickey on his neck.

“I think I'm gonna need a rain check. Tomorrow I have to get up early for work and I’m already gonna have a massive hang-over tomorrow,” Sam said lightly pushing her off him. He knew that he could just ask Cas to take care of his hang-over, but he couldn’t have Cas do that if Amanda was there.

“C’mon Sam, just take tomorrow off. We can have a we-day. Besides, some guy is staring at us and it’s making me uncomfortable. I think he wants to sleep with me,” Amanda said, pulling down her crop-top.

Sam looked over and caught Gabriel’s champagne eyes for a second. They were so bright, it was almost like he was showing off his grace. Gabe looked away and started telling Dean and Cas a joke. Suddenly, the alcohol took control of Sam.

Why should I feel guilty? It’s not like Gabe has some stupid crush on me and even if he did, he would tell me, right? Sam couldn’t take it anymore. “Let’s get outta here,” Sam growled into Amanda’s ear, placing a firm hand on her ass. She let out an excited noise.

“And there they go. Cassie looks like I’m gonna be finding a hotel room,” Gabe said.

“Mind if we join ya?” Dean asked Gabe, holding Cas’s hand. “I don’t think I can handle hearing Sam getting laid tonight.”

“Actually how do you guys feel like getting some payback for all the times we have heard Sam?”, Gabe said, cocking an eyebrow.

“What do you mean by payback,” Dean said, attempting to cock an eyebrow but just ended up looking surprised. Cas took one look at Dean’s face and burst out laughing. “Stop it Cas.” Dean stamped his foot to add emphasis, but that just made Cas laugh harder and Gabe start laughing.

“Aww the baby’s mad,” Gabe managed between laughs. Dean just rolled his eyes. “But the pay-back needs all three of us. So we go to your room, Dean, I make it look romantic and shit. And then, the fun starts. You and Cas start moaning and shit, while slammin’ the bed against the wall. Then I come in and say, ‘Deano, I got the kielbasa you ordered’. Then I join in with the bed slammin’. How does that sound?”

“I’m down. It’s time Sam feels our pain,” Dean said. “Cas, what do ya think?”

“Sounds good. Let’s do it.” Gabe grinned and zapped them back into the bunker.

“Alright. I’m gonna head out of the room and come back in about 10 minutes, so get started,” Gab said, heading out of the room. Dean and Cas laughed silently before starting to gently push to bed against the wall slowly making it louder adding moans into the mix. Soon Gabe opened the door and said his line.

“Dean, Cas, I have the kielbasa you ordered,” Gabe said. It came out slightly muffled due to the mustache. Dean motioned for Gabe to join. Gabe joined and added his moans to the mix.

___________________

“Do you hear that?”, Amanda said.

They could hear Gabe’s, Dean’s, and Cas’s muffle moans through the wall. Dean had moved right next to Sam.

“It sounds like Gabe is with them,” Sam mumbled.

He didn’t know why but he was hurt at the thought of Gabe sleeping with someone else. He shouldn’t feel bad though, he was technically doing the same. What if I’m hurting Gabe and he is doing this to get back at me? Or worse, he just wants to do it himself and doesn’t have any feelings towards me? Sam thought. He pushed Amanda off him and through on a pair of pants. He went and pounded on Dean’s door.

----------------

“Uhhh, Gabe what do we do now?”, Dean asked Gabe, looking frightened.

“Don’t worry. Just follow my lead. Take off your shirts and get under the sheets,” Gabe said, taking his off. Dean looked at Cas, who simply shrugged. Cas and Dean quickly took off their clothes and threw them into a pile on the floor.

“Dean, open this door, immediately or I will kick it down,” Sam said, slamming his fist against the dark oak the door was made out of. Gabe snapped his fingers and the door opened. Sam couldn’t believe his eyes. Here was his crush in bed with his brother and his brother’s boyfriend. Now, if he could, he would haul Gabe off, shove him against a wall and angrily make out. But he couldn’t do that. Hell, he couldn’t so much think about doing it without his face turning a bright pink.

“What, cat got your tongue, Samshine?”, Gabe teased.

To Sam it was like Gabe was salting the wound. Gabe’s smirk was driving Sam crazy. Well, two people could play that game. Sam cocked his head, thinking of a response.

“No, just thinking of why the hell you would sleep with Dean and Cas when you could have had anyone you wanted at the bar. I mean, anyone in that bar would probably sleep with you,” Sam said

Gabe knew that this tough guy was just an act. He knew that Sam was blushing within and Gabe had just the remark to bring the blush to the surface.

“Well, I mean when I saw your brother for the first time, my first thought was ‘Is he proportional?’”Gabe said, gesturing for Sam.

In reality he had thought this about Sam, but the younger brother didn’t need to know that. It hurt Gabe, knowing that he could be hurting Sam. But then again, Gabe, himself, was hurting. It hurt Gabe knowing that Sam was with someone and he was still hung-up over Sam. Sam rolled his eyes and left.

“Uhhh Gabe, were those really your first thoughts about me? Because if so, you're gonna have to fight Cas. And even if you win then, I will make you bring Cas back to life,” Dean said, scooting closer to Cas. Gaeb chuckled, but he also felt sad. He saw the love and bond that Dan and Cas had. He wanted that. He wanted that with Sam.

“No, Dean. I knew for a long time that you and Cas were destined for each other. I could never break the profound bond you two have,” Gabe said, getting out of bed and throwing on his shirt.

Gabe knew that he couldn’t stay in the bunker. He just had to get out. He had to fly. Gabe didn’t fly much but it always made him feel better when he did. Gabe hoped that Dean and Cas hadn’t heard his voice cracking at the end. Gabe walked out of the room and headed towards the main entrance. He stopped when he heard voices.

“So wait, your brother is, like, gay? That’s so cool! I’ve always wanted a gay best friend,” Amanda said, eating ice cream with Sam. Gabe couldn’t believe his ears. Sam Winchester had just outed his own brother. Gabe was angry, but before he said anything, Sam spoke.

“Amanda, he was just sleeping with his boyfriend and another dude. It doesn’t matter if he is gay or not. I’m not going to out him. He can have sex with who ever he wants and it’s none of our business.”

“Jeez, I was just trying to show an interest in your life. You didn’t have to go all ballistic on me,” Amanda said, Gab could feel the attitude she was radiating.

“No you weren’t. You were trying to find a way to get your own fantasies in my world,” Sam said.

“And on that note, I think I’m gonna go out for a while and leave you two love birds alone to figure out your problems,” Gabe said, heading towards the stairs.

“Actually, Amanda was just about to leave,” Sam said.

“Wha-”, Amanda couldn’t even finish her sentence before shoved towards the door.

“No, you two obviously need to figure out some issues. In the meantime. I’m going to blow off some steam,” Gabriel said, walking briskly towards the door.

“Yea, just run away. Cause that’s what you do best. Never solving  any of your problems. Just hoping me and Dean can. Well, ya know what Gabe? FUCK YOU! IF YOU LEAVE I HOPE YOU NEVER COME BACK UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO FACE YOUR PROBLEMS!” Sam passed out at the end there. Amanda looked expectantly towards Gabe. Gabe simply turned around and walked towards the door. Dean and Cas came running out of their room at the sound of Sam yelling.

“Amanda, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?,” Dean shouted.

“Gabe went to leave and then Sam started yelling shit at him and I didn’t know what to do.”

“You didn’t think to call for me or Cas? To calm Sam down?”

Dean shook his head. He couldn’t believe how stupid this girl was. He could see the smug smile that was lurking beneath the surface. Sam let out a loud groan from the floor snapping Dean’s attention to him. “Cas, you go after Gabe. I got Sam. Amanda, I think it’s time for you to go.” Cas gave Dean a simple nod and headed towards the door. “Come on big guy let’s get you to your room.” Amanda followed Cas out. “What the hell did you say to Gabe that made him leave,” Dean said to an unconscious Sam. Dean put Sam in Sam’s bed. Dean pulled up the covers and tucked Sam in like he had done when they were kids.

“Dean…”, Sam moaned from the bed. He turned around at the sound of his name. “Where is Gabe? I need to apologize.”

“Gabe left. I sent Cas after him,” Dean said. Sam rolled over in the  bed. He hadn’t meant those things he told Gabe. But, he didn’t know if Gabe knew that. Dean gave him a pat on the shoulder,  once over, and left the room.

----------------

Gabe felt like he was the king of the world. He happily made twists, turns and flips in the air. He had found an empty field with no lights and managed to fly there. He suddenly heard a voice and his thoughts scattered leaving him feeling betrayed from Sam.

“GABRIEL, WHERE ARE YOU?” He recognized  that voice. It was his baby brother Cas.

“Look up.” Was the answer Cas got.

“Gabriel, get down! What if someone saw you?”

“Well, I guess I would die. To quote Beetlejuice, ‘I'm trapped with no escape, banished, disavowed.’”

“Gabe what are you talking about?”

“Well Sam told me not to go back to the bunker unless I was ready to face my problems and I never do that so I was never going to go back.” Cas put his head in his hands and groaned.

“Come on Gabe. Let’s go home. I think if nothing else you should sleep there and then you can leave in the morning,” Cas said.

He couldn’t believe that Sam had said these things. He knew it was the alcohol talking but he also knew that ever since Sam had started seeing Amanda he had been different. Colder almost.

“Fine,” Gabe said.

Cas zapped them back to the bunker. Gabe walked to his room and then stopped. Before he went in, Gabe thought about stopping by Sam’s room but Gabriel thought that it would only salt the wound more. Gabe went past his room, towards the bathroom. Gabriel opened the door and released a breath that he didn’t realize that he was holding.

The angel quickly undressed and turned on the water. The floor seemed to be a conveyor belt, moving Gabriel through his motions. Gabe turned the water to cold, hoping to ease his muscles. The coldwater did the opposite. It made him more tense so he turned it to hot, which did the trick. He wrapped a towel around his waist and left the bathroom, his hair dripping down his back.

“Hey Gabe, sorry about what happened with Sam. I may not be your biggest fan, but if anything, you don’t run away from your problems, you tend to run head first towards them.” Dean was nervous and Gabe didn’t need his angel powers to see that.

“Yea I know, it was just still kinda hurt. But ya know, I’ll move past it,” Gabe responded as he shook his head. Gabe moved past Dean and walked in the direction of his room.

----------------

Gabe entered his room and snapped his fingers so that he was both dry and in pajamas. He was not looking forward to seeing Sam in the morning, but Gabe couldn’t do anything about it. Maybe he would leave in the morning. He knew that wouldn’t solve anything, but maybe it would. Gabe shook his head and went to sleep.

------------

Sam rolled out of bed and onto the floor. He groaned. What happened last night. Wait, do I even want to know? , Sm thought. And like his mind was wanting to make things worse, all the memories came flooding back. Him yelling at Gabe, Gabe leaving. All of it. Sam groaned a second time. This was going to be a long day.

------------------

Gabe moved swiftly through the kitchen. He was making chocolate chip pancakes, a great food staple. His earbuds were blaring in his ears, Conan Gray’s voice saying exactly what Gabe was feeling. Gabe’s voice ruffly singing along.

“Why would you ever kiss me?/I'm not even half as pretty/You gave her your sweater, it's just polyester/But you like her better/Wish I were Heather,” Gabe sang as he turned a pancake.

“GABE!”

The voice drew Gabe out and Gabe paused his music and took the headphones out. And turned to see Dean standing before him in a rob, smelling like morning sex.

“Sorry, Deano. Just kinda got into the groove, ya know how it can be,” Gabe wrung his hands. He didn't even convince himself. He knew his eyes looked slightly bloodshot and his hair was a mess.

“Got into the groove of “Heather” by Conan Gray.”

Dan cocked an eyebrow at Gabe.

“He was-I wasn’t-It's a good song ok?”

Gabe was getting frustrated. Dean walked over to the angel and put his hands on Gabriel’s shoulders.

“Hey man, Cas told me what Sam told you and I just want you to know, I understand if you want to leave the bunker. I hope you don’t though because then I won’t have someone to argue with over every little thing.”

“Dean, I don’t think I will but now, you have to listen to my sad depressing music.”

Dean laughed as Gabe put up his headphones and Conan Gray filled the kitchen. Gabe hummed along as he finished up breakfast.

“Here ya go.” Gabe put a plate in front of Dean and one in front of himself. Gabe dug in and smiled at the perfection he had created.

“Dean, me, you and Gabe need to talk. Oh, hey Gabe,” Cas said as he came in, robe whipping behind him.

Cas threw three pancakes on a plate and doused them in syrup.

“Gabe are you going to leave or not?” Cas asked, his mouth full of pancake.

Gabe shook his head

Gabe’s ears pricked up at a sound so light that only someone who knew what they were listening for would hear, or maybe just an angel. Gabe got up and put his plate in the sink. He needed to leave and fast. Maybe Gabe wasn’t fast enough or maybe dear Ol Dad just wanted to play a joke, on one of his favorite children. Who was standing there but Samuel William Winchester.

“Gabe, please. I’m sorry-”.

Gabe dismissed Sam’s apology with his hand. Sam looked like shit. Part of Gabriel thought Sam should, however Gabriel felt bad for the kid. So, the angel snapped his fingers.

_________

Sam’s hangover was gone, thanks to Gabe.

“Thank-thank you Gabriel,” Sam said, lightly bowing his head before turning to the food.

______________

Gabe left the kitchen and ran till he was in the safety of his room. He collapsed face-first onto the bed. Fuck. He really needed to get over Sam.
