Work Text:

It was 2:24 AM.

The apartment was quiet. Hiro was sleeping soundly, and Daiya was awake.

Moving some of the hair out of Hiro's face fondly, he placed a kiss on his forehead, and got up to grab it - his old jacket.

It was surprisingly in good shape for the damage it had taken not too long ago. Even his legs healed nicely, and he wasn't limping anymore.

Casting one last glance to Hiro in bed, Daiya grabbed his old, rusty crowbar, and left.

.

.

.

He knew going alone was downright idiotic.

But maybe it was the appeal of beating some sense into this younger, much more rowdy gang. They had popped up recently, but still gave the Diamond's trouble based on what Mondo had been saying.

Their leader, Ikki, was a rude, and rough 19 year old boy. Fresh outta highschool, no discipline whatsoever, and making stupid decisions.

The crowbar felt hefty and welcome in his hand.

Maybe this will teach them not to mess with the tiger.

As Daiya pulled up in his bike, and parked it, the sound of [probably drunk] teenagers filled the air.

He strolled up to the door nonchalantly, and banged it lightly with his signature lazy grin.

"Well, don't you look like you're havin' fun?"

Immediately, those that were sober kept a trained eye on him. Daiya didn't mind though. His eyes flashed dangerously.

"So fellas, mind tellin' me where your boss is?"

One of the guys spat at his shoes. Daiya's grin faltered, and they laughed.

"Piss off, old man!"

"As if we'll tell you where th' boss is!"

Daiya sighed, and kneeled down to wipe his shoes off. One of the boys got cocky, and walked forward as he did, reaching forward.

Before he could even do what he planned, Daiya grabbed his wrist, tugged him down, and slammed the crowbar into his temple.

The boy fell unconscious with a thud. Daiya, now irritated, sighed again.

"No one ever teach you boys manners?"

Outraged by the attack on their friend, a few more guys scowled and charged forward.

Daiya grew annoyed.

Each boy that came up to him, he quickly maneuvered away, and with a quick bash to the head, 3 more fell to the ground.

"Now, I didn't have to do that. You coulda just showed me where your boss is, and we coulda called it a day.." He shakes the blood off his crowbar, and takes a step forward, eyes dark. "Now I'm gonna have to stain my favorite coat."

He sidestepped when another man ran up to him with a knife, elbowing the back of his head and swinging the crowbar into his skull.

This time, blood grew more abundant. He noticed how some of the members backed up. Daiya cast a glance - and found he didn't care much. If he was breathing, he was breathing. If he wasn't, then well, he shouldn't have been so sloppy.

He catches slow breaths, and thanks the gods for the boy. Better be grateful.

"Now, boys, I don't like repeating myself.."

He kneeled down in front of the boys who tried to attack him, and lifted his head carelessly with the end of the crowbar. Blood smeared across his chin, and Daiya found that he liked how quiet it got.

When he looked back at the remaining men, his grin turned sinister.

"So you might wanna tell me now, because I ain't afraid to bash this guys head in, gotcha?"

One of them, who Daiya recognized as the one who called Hiro 'dread boy', pointed to the back with shaky hands.

On his way up there, he stopped by him.

"What's your name?"

"K-Ken-" He cleared his throat. "Kento, sir."

Daiya smiled.

"Kento."

He put a hand on his shoulder and gripped a little too tight. The smile no longer seemed innocent. Next thing Kento knew, he was on the ground, conked out cold.

"No one calls my boyfriend names."

.

.

.

"Well, Daiya! Surprised to see you here, 'specially after that ah- stumble off the bridge."

Ikki's grin is cheeky as he swishes his cup around.

And Daiya? Well, Daiya isn't smiling.

"Cut the shit, Ikki."

He pulls the crowbar, hidden in his coat, and slams it on the table. The leader jumps, and his sunglasses slide down his nose.

Daiya thinks his surprise is pathetic.

The crowbar slides across the table, lifting Ikki's chin so Daiya can get a good look at him.

"I have half the mind to beat you to fuckin' death."

Ikki trembles, and Daiya snarls. Unlike before, Daiya is truly angry.

"You chase me and my boyfriend.."

He gets closer.

"Throw rocks, knives, and ALL SORTS OF WEAPONS.."

One knee on the desk, his fist digging into the fabric of his vest.

"And your gang has HARDLY any discipline or respect. So, I'm gonna give you a couple 'a decisions, Ikki."

Daiya growls, crowbar at his side.

"You're gonna stay off Diamond turf, leave my boyfriend alone, and-" He gives the other man a harsh jerk, getting close enough to snarl in his ear.

"You're gonna teach your gang about respect and manners, before I have to beat it into EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!"

Letting him go, Daiya turns away to leave.. but the click of a gun makes him pause.

He sighs.

"I thought you'd listen, boy."

And before Ikki can pull the trigger, Daiya swings his crowbar as hard as he can into his head.

The sickening crunch of metal into bone echoes in the room, as the edge sinks into his skin. The gun falls to the ground with a clatter, going off nearby.

Ikki lay in his chair, motionless, with blood dripping from his temple. Blood soaks into the cuffs of Daiya's sleeves, and he looks disappointed.

He hears footsteps, and is unsurprised to find a group of gang members by the door. Crowbar in hand, he points at the boy in the middle.

"C'mere. You look like a good man. You know your manners, boy?"

He nods. "Yes sir."

Daiya smiles.

"There we go. Now," He gestures to the corpse, "You gonna be better than him?"

"Yes sir."

"Good boy! What's your name?"

The boy shifts. "Aika, sir."

Daiya puts a friendly hand on his shoulder.

"Alright Aika. I want you to lead the Gators from now on."

He gestures to the group in front of them.

"You hear me?! Aika here is y'all's new boss! You listen to him!!"

"Thank you, sir."

"Good lad."

Daiya pats his shoulder and starts to leave.

"Hey uh.. who are you?"

Dripping with blood, Daiya slings the crossbow over his shoulder, with the same grin he had when he entered.

"Founder of the Crazy Diamonds. That's all you need to know."

4:13 AM.

Hiro is still sound asleep. Daiya is all cleaned up. He won't have to worry, he won't have to know.

He climbs into bed next to him, and stares at how beautiful he is in the moonlight.

"Night doll.. I love you."

He kisses Hiro's forehead, just as he did before he left, and dozes off peacefully.

Hiro doesn't question in the morning why the leader of the Gators is found dead.
