Chapter Text
Azula’s POV (again idk how to write POVs.)
As Azula past through the corridor she heard their father’s praise for her brother, it made her sick. Her brother, loved and adored by their father, yet noticed my their mother for his “Kindness”. He was lucky, lucky to be the first born, lucky to be a royal, lucky to be a prodigy. Zuko, the family’s pride and joy ran circles around her. Mother only saw her as a place to lend pity, so she pushed her away. Azula couldn’t live with the constant feelings of pity, though she’s sure her brother would adore it.
Azula had few friends. Her pure admiration and title alone scared off most. She had Mai, but Mai was never entirely hers, she’s Zuko’s. The only real friend she had was TyLee, a talented gymnast, even if she was a bit ditzy.
TyLee and Azula were inseparable, when TyLee thought Azula gymnastics and even a technique called “Chi Blocking” Azula taught TyLee strategy and lying. When Azula is explaining work for the Academy TyLee would tell her that her aura is too dark, and when TyLee cries that her parent forgot her name Azula throws fire at walls because father treats her like she’s an object. A space, hidden by passage ways, jumps, and fire, it has seen it all, the tears, the mundane, the fights, and much more.
The night she heard her father practically sell her off she wasn’t shocked. She may have not been a talented bender but she was extremely intelligent. In reality it was a smart way of moving up to the fire lord, but that didn’t stop the pain.
Anger in her, she had potential, why can’t they see! As she wrote a letter her fist clenched the pen so tight her knuckles were white.
Ty, does The Edge of the world have a sun?
-PAFN.
She left the note on TyLee’s window before sending a small flame, she may be angry but she would never let her emotions get in the way of her bending. Even at a young age she had a good mind, her body however was weak. Reminding Azula of her stupidly lucky brother and how he would let rage take over, another reason why she was better.
Then she ran, she ran down hidden passages and jumped over walls to get to there, her and TyLee’s second home, The Edge as TyLee named it. Once there Azula cried. It was the first time she’s cried in over 3 years.
TyLee’s POV (Ig idk)
A gust of fire had hit her window waking her, noticing a note TyLee thought it was Azula. The note was a question about the sun in The Edge of the world, signed by “Princess Azula of the Fire Nation”, so it was from Azula after all. If anyone else saw they would think it’s a kid being a kid, but no. Even though Azula was only 5, she lived by the detail, she strives for perfection. TyLee knew that she wouldn’t mistakenly capitalize “The Edge”.
She started to run to The Edge. As she entered, she saw her best friend punching fire, screaming, crying. Seeing Azula cry, it terrified TyLee. Azula is the strongest, toughest person she knew. As stupid as TyLee might seem, she knew that this must be bad.
Azula’s POV (not really but ykyk)
She shouldn’t be crying, she shouldn’t be screaming, she had to keep her mind clear, but she couldn’t. She knew that her mind was the only thing Zuko left for her, he had the body, the heart, the people, but she had the mind, she couldn’t give that up.
Turing around she saw TyLee.
“I’m being traded for the crown.” Azula croaked, she had to get herself together. Then an already crying TyLee yelled back,
“ZULA, what’s going on? Please! I’m going to get Ursa!”
Ursa POV
She was feeding the turtleducks when she saw her daughter’s friend TyLee sobbing while running over. Did Azula make her cry? She always has been much colder then Zuko. But when TyLee told her what Azula had said she was shocked, it all made sense. Guilt rolled over her for thinking her daughter was at fault, but she couldn’t dwell on that. Azula was in danger.
She followed TyLee, jumping over large gaps that were difficult for even her to manage, and past though passageways she didn’t know were there. When she finally got to an open area she saw her daughter bawling and punching the air. Ursa was trying to comfort Azula,
“You’re gonna be ok, i’ll figure it out” Zula, I’m sorry, I didn’t stop him from forcing her grow up at such a young age. I tried to protect her but she has always been cold. At 5 she already knows more then any 20 year old should. Ozai how did you do it? You never even showed her praise, yet she strives for your love.
She had to leave, she had to figure it out with Ozai. Getting lost in the labyrinth of tunnels, she wondered how her daughter and her friend could make it here. But she found her way out. She wasn’t running, but she was definitely going faster then a walk to get to her husband.
+++++
She made a deal, she would leave in the middle of the night, without her children’s knowledge in exchange for Azula’s safety. That night she had to leave. First she wrote down her regrets about Zuko and hid it in a turtleduck plush that she gave Zuko for his birthday. Then she wrote her regrets about Azula before hiding it right behind the secret passageway door that she entered before.
