“Katara, back the fuck off!”
“No, I won’t!” Katara retorted. Toph was being her infuriating self once again, but the waterbender wasn’t letting this slide. Not this time. Not after this close call. “You are literally going to get yourself killed.”
“Cut the crap, Sugar Queen, I’m doing my job and I know what I’m doing! Give it a rest.”
“No!” she shouted. For Spirits sake, why didn’t Toph understand? “You can’t just be putting your life on the line like that when I’m not there to help!”
Toph threw a bewildered look in Katara’s direction. “So?! You shouldn’t be out in the field next to me. You know. Since you’re not a metalbender.”
Katara was over this. She put her hands on Toph’s shoulders and shook her. “That’s not the point, Toph!”
“Oh bite me, Katara—”
“—Just shut up!” Katara put a finger on Toph’s lips to silence her. “Don’t you get it? I can’t just stand here wondering if you’re going to come back because you’re being an idiot out in the field and putting yourself in harm’s way!”
Toph sucked in a sharp breath. What did Katara mean by that? She didn’t say a word, but felt the waterbender close the distance between them, their foreheads practically touching.
“Katara—”
Before Toph could finish her sentence, Katara’s lips crashed onto Toph’s.
The kisses were hard and furious. Toph could barely breathe, but at the same time, they filled her lungs with air. It was like coming up after being submerged underwater for far too long. She returned the passionate kisses, but with more tenderness and less force, assuming that was what Katara wanted. Toph wrapped her arms around Katara, continuing to kiss her softly. And Katara groaned in…
Frustration??
The earthbender stopped. “Is something wrong? Am I hurting you?”
“Toph,” Katara replied breathlessly. Toph felt her smile wickedly against her lips. “Bite me.”
Toph couldn’t help but laugh.
“Sure thing, Sweetness.”
