Work Text:
“Zawa!”
Aizawa let’s out an oomf when he’s essentially slammed into, freezing up as the arms that randomly wrapped around him tighten their grip.
He looks down, eyes meeting Izuku’s as the boy stares up at him with wide, curious eyes and it makes the tired man blink slowly.
“Izuku! Where- oh.” Aizawa looks up to meet Yagi’s gaze, the tall blonde’s expression turning sheepish as if he’s been caught.
“...Explain.” Is all Aizawa says, making Yagi sigh and walk over. Izuku turns his head away from the man when he gets closer- Aizawa raising an eyebrow at that and Yagi frowning.
“He uh, got hit by a quirk.. It’s hard to explain. The little girl that accidentally touched him just got her power and well… It’s almost like he’s…” Yagi falters when Izuku turns his head back at Yagi to glare at the blonde. “...holding grudges while drunk?”
“What does that even mean?” The tired man questions, seemingly accepting his fate for the next couple of days to be Izuku’s pillow- as that is what he's expecting based on what’s happening right now. Because honestly that’s just Aizawa’s luck.
“He’s being, erm, rude- to those who hurt him in the past- and he’s been giving head pats? To uh, people he likes, I guess. I’ve been watching it but it appears I may have… Offended him, at some point in the past. So he’s been avoiding me and escaping every time I look away.” Yagi shrinks more under Aizawa’s forming glare, feeling a sweat drop down his forehead. “As for the 'drunk' part, he doesn’t have much of a filter and he’s been very loopy- err, emotional? Happy then suddenly sad?”
“I get what it means to be drunk, Yagi.” Aizawa inhales, trying not to get upset. “Just go, I’ll keep an eye on him.” The tired man grumbles, earning just a nod from the tall blonde who makes his escape quickly- not wanting to be underneath Aizawa’s glare any longer.
“He’s meanie.” Izuku says as soon as he’s gone, making Aizawa snort at the suddenness of his speech and looking down to the boy still hugging him- though not as tightly as the boy didn’t feel like he’d be taken away any more.
“Why is he a meanie?” Aizawa questions, gently guiding Izuku to the couch in his office. The man had been in the school on the weekend sorting through his office and organizing while Hizashi watched the gremlins in his class, but it looks like he’ll have to wait till another day to finish.
“Cause’... He told me, to be a.. No wait,” Izuku stumbles over his words, clearly trying to figure out what to say- or figure out which reason why Yagi is a meanie. “He told me to keep a secret, but I don't wanna keep the secret. Cause it sucks.” Izuku settles on, huffing when Aizawa makes them sit on the comfy couch.
“A secret that sucks, huh?” Aizawa decides being gentle with the boy is a good choice, especially when the boy was already quite emotional in the first place- being even more emotional would certainly cause.. Issues, if Aizawa made a wrong choice of words.
“Mhm…” Izuku leans his head on Aizawa’s shoulder, blowing a raspberry as he stares at the floor- probably thinking reaaaaaal hard with a loopy brain. “...Zawa is married to Yama, correct?”
Aizawa resists letting out a laugh at that, because of course Izuku would figure that out. “Yup.”
“So Yama could go get icecream if you asked?” Izuku questions, looking up at Aizawa with not puppy eyes but kitten eyes. God fucking damn it, how did this boy manage to do it?
Maybe Aizawa just gets those eyes too much from his own cats, yeah, that’s probably it.
“...Do you want icecream?”
“Chocolate chip mint please.”
“I’ll take that as a yes. Okay.” Aizawa pulls out his phone, raising an eyebrow when Izuku tugs his arm over so he can watch him text- and the tired man allows this, because it’s not like he had anything bad on there anyways. “So, Chocolate chip mint?”
Izuku nods rapidly, sneakily pushing the icecream emoji and making Aizawa actually let out a laugh this time.
“Yama uses emojis a lot.” Izuku comments, slowly grabbing Aizawa’s phone and the man just letting him take it. He doesn’t think Izuku would do anything seriously bad with his phone, even under a muddled brain.
“He certainly does.” Aizawa sighs, his husband was over the top like that.
While Aizawa watches Izuku spam his husband with different emojis, he lets out a snort when his husband messages back utterly confused. It just makes Izuku continue his emoji assault as Aizawa tries not to smile.
Hizashi comes through the door thirty minutes later with ice cream, walking in on Izuku rambling nonsense to his husband while playing games he downloaded on his phone. Aizawa flickers his gaze up to Hizashi, watching the loud man’s expression turn even more confused- but slightly relieved his husband hasn’t lost his mind and wasn’t the one sending those emojis.
“Soooooo,” Hizashi’s voice snaps Izuku out of his rambling haze and the boy immediately gives Aizawa his phone back and stands up, dashing over and slamming into Hizashi with a tight hug- almost making his drop the ice cream. “OOF- uh? Little listener?? Sho?” Hizashi desperately looks up to Aizawa for an answer, the tired man standing up with a soft sigh and coming over to pry Izuku off of his husband.
“He’s under the influence of a quirk.” Aizawa says, ruffling the boy’s hair when he lets out a whine at being separated from his new pillow but silencing when Hizashi gives him his ice cream. Izuku stares at it for a good minute before smiling extra wide and letting out a happy giggle, starting to lick the chocolate chip mint cone.
“Ah. This makes so much more sense now.” Hizashi laughs, which makes Izuku laugh and Aizawa shake his head fondly.
“Can we go walk?” Izuku questions, “Wanna walk.”
“I don’t mind, lil listener!” Hizashi smiles, looking at Aizawa who just shrugs and gestures for his husband to lead the way. “That’s a yes then! C'mon!”
Izuku excitingly grabs Hizashi’s sleeve with his free hand and tugs on it gently, the blonde merely humming and leading the way out into the hallway- then outside. When they head towards the trees, Izuku starts up his rambles again.
“I like birds.”
“Oh yeah? Why’s that?” Hizashi questions.
“Cause’ they can fly. And they’re free to do whatever they want. I wish I was a bird.”
“That does sound like a good life, doesn’t it?” Hizashi chuckles, sneaking glances every so often at Aizawa who looks pleased to not have to answer to Izuku’s rambles as much as he had to for the past half hour.
“Mhm. If Hawks wanted to, he could just fly off and never come back. Cause’ he’s a bird. But I don't think he can do that, cause’ he’s in a cage and birds in cages can’t fly.”
“Watcha mean by that?” Hizashi felt slightly concerned, and his husband felt the same way- but they didn't get their answer as Izuku let out a gasp and turned around to the two adults.
“What if there’s mer people living in the ocean right now and we just don’t know it??”
“Ah- well, I wouldn’t be too surprised.” Hizashi’s smile is uncertain, and while he was still concerned- he decided this would probably be an issue to handle later. When Izuku wasn’t under the influence of a quirk that gave him little to no filter. His husband seems to agree, as the tired man just lets out a long sigh and ruffles the boy’s hair again.
Izuku pauses his walk when he gets the affectionate ruffle, staring up at Aizawa and making the man raise an eyebrow.
“You’re really nice to me.”
Aizawa blinks. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Cause’ the other adults are really mean, n’ selfish and stupid. And I thought you’d be the same way cause’ you were really strict n’ stuff but then I learned that it’s just because you care and you’re a really good teacher.”
“Oh.” Aizawa slowly pulls out his phone while gesturing for Hizashi to please do something while I try not to lose my shit. The loud blonde quickly wraps his arm around Izuku’s shoulder as he turns him back around, starting to walk forward while smiling at the kid.
“Yeah, Sho is pretty great! Isn’t he?” Hizashi basically chirps out, making Izuku nod rapidly.
“He makes me feel safe. And’ you do too! Cause you’re really nice and I saw you beat up someone who commented on Mina’s looks when we were at the mall last week, and that made me happy. Cuz I used to think you were like All Might but you’re not like All Might you’re like Zawa’ and you care a lot more.”
Okay. Hizashi needed to change the subject. Because he didn’t like where this was going and he needed this conversation to be with a clear headed- or uh, less muddled headed Izuku. Not basically 'drunk' Izuku.
Thankfully, his husband beats him to it as the tired man puts his phone away and stops their walk. “How about we go back to the dorms? Watch a movie maybe?” Aizawa questions, and it makes Izuku jump up and down lightly in place- nodding rapidly in response.
When they get back and settle down on Aizawa and Hizashi’s couch, Izuku is mesmerized by the movie in front of him. His hands clenching and unclenching at the blanket Hizashi laid over him unsubconsciously. Aizawa had a small feeling he was not going to remember the movie at all after the quirk’s effects were over, but at least it was distracting the boy.
Halfway through the movie however, Aizawa falls asleep and Hizashi decides to make the three something to eat in the kitchen.
Izuku is aware of the two no longer watching the movie with him, and decides to stop as well- sliding down off the couch and onto the floor. He at first just stared at the floor, finding the carpet fascinating and looking at the coffee stain at one part of the floor. But then a cat enters his vision and blinks at him- Izuku blinks back slowly, watching the cat lose interest in him rather quickly when he doesn’t pet her and walk off.
Izuku follows.
Aizawa startles awake a few minutes later when he hears a crash, immediately sitting up and looking around. He blinks at Hizashi looking from the kitchen over at Izuku who is trying to put together a broken bowl that was on the desk in the corner, along with the cat who’s staring down from atop the desk. Izuku seems to be on the verge of tears and Aizawa is quick to stand up and walk over.
“What happened, kiddo?” Aizawa questions, prying Izuku’s hands away from the bowl shards. Izuku blinks, looking up at Aizawa and tilting his head. “...Kid?”
“Um… Cat tried to knock down bowl.. So I helped.. And the bowl broke… It scared me cause’ I wasn’t expecting it, and then I tried to clean it up but the bowl wouldn’t go back together… It’s weird..”
“Okay. That’s okay kid, Hizashi will clean up the bowl- how about we sit on the couch, yeah? You can play with my phone again.” Aizawa hums, gently guiding Izuku to stand up and giving Hizashi a glance- the blonde just nods and smiles.
Looks like they were reaching the part where the quirk affects Izuku especially hard, but hopefully that meant it would be over soon.
“Sorry for the bowl..” Izuku mumbles, sitting down with Aizawa on the couch and leaning heavily on the man’s side. The tired man hums, wrapping an arm around the boy’s shoulder and tugs him close- keeping note of the way that Izuku soaks in the attention like a sponge.
“We have more bowls, it’s fine.” Aizawa reassures, making Izuku basically melt in relief.
“Okie.” Izuku’s voice comes out muffled from where it’s now hiding in Aizawa’s shirt, “...do all of your dishes have cats on them..?” He questions then, making Hizashi snicker and Aizawa pout.
“...Maybe.”
“I like it.”
Aizawa stops pouting at that- his expression turning fond. He narrowly avoids Hizashi’s delighted grin and looks down to Izuku who is now staring up at him. “You like cats then?”
“Mhm. They’re cute. I think bunnies are my favorite though. Their little nose does like,” Izuku gestures to his nose, making the movements that bunnies do with their own. “And they have big thumpers in the back. And jumping so high is so cool. Like a dog could-”
Izuku begins his ramblings again, continuing until he falls asleep on top of his teacher after eating what Hizashi made- snoring softly.
It makes Aizawa’s heart pang lightly, this was a kid asleep on him- a kid who was training to become a hero- and already he had to go through what no one should ever have to go through. And apparently based on the rambles from earlier in the day, there was even more on Izuku’s shoulders.
A kid.
Fuck, Aizawa hates thinking about that.
The best thing he can do is be there for these kids when no one else will, and protect them along with support them.
Even when his kids can be gremlins, they’re his gremlins.
Aizawa looks up at his husband who leans over to give him a soft kiss on the forehead, and ah. Right.
He never will have to do it alone.
