Work Text:
Steve’s eyes narrowed when he spotted the figure huddled in the corner of Tony’s workshop, long dark hair pulled into a loose bun as he worked.
Steve turned to Tony, raising an eyebrow in question as he looked from him to the mystery man.
“You making your hook-ups do grunt work now?”
He asked with a smirk. Tony grinned back, eyes shining in amusement.
“Ha ha, Captain Hilarious.”
He said, before he shook his head.
“Do you remember that charity I teamed up with? The one that helps injured war veterans get prosthetics?”
Tony asked, continuing when Steve nodded his head.
“That kid is one of the first recipients for my most advanced titanium build prosthetic, TXK.”
He said, cocking his head in the direction of the dark-haired man.
“Ok, that definitely explains why he’s here doing your paperwork.”
Steve said sarcastically, scratching his head as his eyes unconsciously flicked over to him. Steve could see it now, the glint of the shiny metal arm hinting from in front of his slumped form.
“Yeah... well, it’s kind of complicated.”
Tony said with a shrug, walking out the door and motioning for Steve to follow. He did, glancing one last time over his shoulder as they both walked into the kitchen.
When Steve slunk around the island bench, Tony reached past him to grab two mugs before he placed them under a coffee machine— well, something that Steve assumed was a coffee machine. Any device Tony had in his house was really just some kind of high tech monstrosity of its former creation.
“Cappuccino?”
Tony asked, not waiting for Steve to answer before he pressed the button.
“So... complicated, huh? That’s usually what happens when you sleep with your charity cases.”
Steve said wryly, bumping Tony’s shoulder.
“I’m not sleeping with him, Steve, that would be, like... highly inappropriate.”
Tony scoffed, grabbing the now filled cups from the machine when it beeped.
He handed one to Steve before he poured three packets of sugar into his own cup and gave it a quick stir.
Steve raised an eyebrow and shook his head in mock disapproval.
“You’ll rot your teeth, you know.”
Tony just rolled his eyes, taking a swig of his coffee.
“Good thing I have you to remind me of that fact every time I drink coffee.”
Tony murmured under his breath, walking over to the other side of the kitchen bench and pulling out a stool before Steve came around and joined him.
“So...”
Steve started, eyeing the way Tony just sighed.
“What’s the story with this guy? He’s some army brat you helped with the charity, and according to you, you haven’t slept with him... so, what am I missing? Why’s he cornered up in your workroom? Spill it.”
Tony groaned at him, taking another sip of his sugary concoction before he spoke.
“I don’t know, Steve, it kinda just happened. The kid’s more stubborn than me, believe it or not.”
Tony sighed, making Steve chuckle and nod.
“He just showed up one day, said he wouldn’t leave until he got to thank me for the arm. Eventually, I met with him, did the whole ‘graciously accepted his adoration’ thing and I thought that was it... but then he wouldn’t leave. He insisted that he needed to pay me back, that he wanted to set up some kind of payment plan, it was ridiculous.”
Tony scowled, but Steve noticed the slight unturned tug of his lips... and that made something inside of him twist.
“Anyway, I told him that I didn’t need it— I mean, hello, I’m a billionaire, but he just kept insisting that he couldn’t take a hand out... ha, hand out, get it?”
It was Steve’s turn to roll his eyes.
“Are you day drinking again?”
He asked wryly, and Tony scoffed at him in answer before he went on with his story.
“So yeah, eventually I just made a deal with him that he could come work for me, you know, just busy work to keep him happy.”
Tony finished with a shrug, chugging the rest of his coffee before he glanced at Steve, who was openly gaping at him.
“Ah— wait, wait, wait... are you... Jesus, are you actually being serious?”
Steve sputtered, his fingers winding around Tony’s forearm and squeezing.
“You’re letting some strange, some strange— agh, what the hell even is he?”
Steve hissed, squeezing Tony’s arm tighter in his grip.
“He’s a beta like me, Steve, and he’s really a very nice kid, alright? I know he’s a little... well, he’s a little odd, and quiet, and brooding, and maybe he wears too much cologne—“
“Get to the point, Tony.”
Steve bit out, annoyed when Tony just smirked at him.
“Like I said, he’s a good kid. He always does whatever I ask of him, he’s polite, doesn’t cause any trouble and I actually quite enjoy having him around.”
He said with a creeping smile, patting the hand Steve still held tight around his arm.
“Plus, he’s pretty easy on the eyes.”
Tony grinned, his smile only faltering when Steve’s face hardened.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, Tony? You’re letting your cock make the decisions for you now?”
He growled, getting in his face before Tony finally pushed him back, his own expression turning sour.
“Why are you going all alpha on me? Are you close to your rut or something?”
Tony asked with a scowl, pulling out of Steve’s grip and folding his arms over his chest.
“Oh, don’t give me that shit, Tony. I’m concerned about you, alright? You’ve got some strange beta punk skulking around your house, and you just—“
Steve’s tirade was cut short when suddenly someone cleared their throat.
“I’m sorry to disturb, Mr Stark, I just wanted to let you know that I found some discrepancies in the CODE documents.”
Both Tony and Steve’s heads swivelled around to see the beta standing tall by the kitchen door.
“Ah... yeah, kid, thanks, I’ll have a look at that soon.”
Tony said, wincing a little at the pure awkwardness of their current situation.
Steve’s own eyes widened as he got his first real look at the man in front of him. A curling nausea resting in his throat as he took him in, really took him in. He was...
Fuck it, he was hot. Really, really hot. Like one of Steve’s walking wet dreams.
The ebony wisps of hair that had escaped his bun contrasted so prettily with the pure brilliance of his piercing blue eyes.
His body was strong and lean, yet somehow... elegant.
His face... shit, yup, that was awfully gorgeous too.
Well, fuck.
He was exactly Tony’s type.
Steve quickly glanced over at Tony, a coil of something cold slithering inside his belly as he watched him smile at the guy. Actually smile.
“Hey, kid,”
Steve drawled sarcastically, glaring at the handsome stranger as he stood quietly in front of them, eyes cast down, yet somehow entirely devoid of submission.
“Get me another coffee, will you?”
Steve ordered, trying to keep the irritation from his voice as he slipped on a predatory smile. The man’s eyes flicked up, holding Steve’s gaze for a beat before he dropped them back down again.
“Steve—“
Tony growled in warning, only for Steve to speak over him.
“What? I thought he was here to help you out? Right? Pay you back for what you’ve done for him? Or, do his words just mean shit?”
Steve smirked, the challenge in his voice clear. Tony turned on him, his mouth dropped low in shock before he went to speak. The man beat him too it.
“It’s ok, Mr Stark, I don’t mind.”
His voice was clear and concise, his body already moving to the coffee machine as Tony watched him in horror.
“You don’t have to do that, Bucky, he’s just being an insensitive dick.”
Tony muttered stonily, turning to get up and move towards him only for Steve to stop him in his tracks with a heavy hand.
“Insensitive how? Because he lost his arm, I’m supposed to coddle him?”
Steve growled, anger slowly rising up in his chest and through his body. Tony looked at him like he was crazy, his mouth opening and closing several times as if he didn’t know what to say.
The long moment of silence was interrupted by the beep of the coffee machine, and both men turned their heads towards Bucky as he carefully pulled out the mug and handed it to Steve.
Steve took it, his lips pressing into a thin line as the man— as Bucky, stepped back, his hands clasping together. One metal, one flesh.
“I will start on the filing now, Mr Stark.”
Bucky murmured, before he nodded once in parting and walked away.
Steve watched him go.
***
Tony hadn’t invited Steve over for two whole weeks after that, and when he finally did, the inventor had ranted at him about keeping his behaviour civil...
Because the beta was still here.
Steve plastered on a fake smile and nodded in agreement, apologising for how he had acted before.
Tony was quick to forgive, inviting him up for many, many drinks— both men guzzling down glass upon glass of expensive scotch.
He could always count on Tony for his excessive and readily available booze.
When Steve had been in the army, it had taken him a long time before he had worked his way up to being captain. All the higher-ups used to sit around drinking cheap spirits as they traded a few laughs to pass the time.
This, here with Tony, always reminded him of that.
It felt nice.
“Bucky insisted on staying late tonight so he could help me write a proposal, should we... we should invite him up for a drink, right?”
Tony asked, his words slurred as he smiled dopily at Steve.
Why did that have to tug at his heart? That smile, that—
“Wait, what did you say? Invite who? Him? That guy?”
Steve’s questions seemed to bounce off the drunk man as he called for JARVIS to fetch Bucky, moving his half-empty glass to clink across Steve’s in celebration.
It was probably only a good twenty minutes before the glass doors of the parlour slid open... and there he stood.
The beta.
It was rather irritating to see that he looked as good as he had before, better even... somehow.
Fucking, Bucky.
“Is there something I can help you with, sir?”
Bucky asked, his eyes only on Tony, completely ignoring Steve.
Something about that lit a fire in his belly and he had to grit his teeth in order to stop himself from saying something he really shouldn’t say.
“Do you drink, Bucky? How bout you sit down and have a glass or two with us? You’ve worked hard today!”
Tony cheered, raising his glass again as his eyes danced.
Bucky glanced to Steve for a beat before he shook his head.
“No, thank you, Mr Stark. I just have a few more things to finish and then I’ll be on my way.”
He murmured quietly before he gave a quick nod and walked out the door.
Steve watched him with a narrowed gaze before he looked at Tony, biting back a growl when he saw the way the man was smiling warmly at the retreating beta.
“Slept with him yet?”
Steve asked, trying to keep the question light with the fire raging under his skin. Tony cocked his head to the side, a sly smile twisting his lips.
“I like him, he’s a really sweet kid—“
“Sweet? I’m sorry, but are we talking about the same guy here?”
Steve scoffed, annoyed when Tony just chuckled.
“He is sweet, you just don’t really know him yet. Trust me, he’ll grow on you.”
Tony grinned, patting his leg in a friendly gesture. Steve’s jaw clenched.
“Like a cancer.”
Steve muttered under his breath, taking another swig of his scotch.
The two men chatted for a long while, letting the night drag on until the wee hours. Tony was halfway through some story about one of his inventions going haywire when JARVIS interrupted them.
“Apologies sir, but it seems like Bucky is finished for the night and would like to go home.”
The AI said, his voice somehow disapproving. Tony’s eyes widened, putting his drink on the table as he stood up, his body wavering on the spot.
“He’s still— still here? Still?”
He slurred, almost tripping over his feet before Steve quickly stood to catch his arm and steady him.
“I gotta, um, gotta… JARVIS, stay— tell him to stay the night. It’s late, very late.”
He went to move but Steve didn’t let him, using his strength to carefully push him back down on the seat. Tony looked up at him confused, his eyes half dazed.
“I got it, Tony, JARVIS can lead the way and I’ll get him into one of the spare rooms.”
He said, keeping his voice calm as he settled the man. Tony just nodded jerkily, leaning back into the chair and blinking up at the ceiling.
They had gone glass for glass, but that was the thing about being an Alpha, Steve’s body burned at a higher temperature than a beta like Tony, and Steve’s metabolism ran almost double that of any other sex.
Steve was drunk, of course… but Tony was drunk.
“Alright, JARVIS, let’s go.”
With the AI’s instructions, Steve found his way to the elevators, his eyes trained on the broad back of the dark-haired man. Bucky.
Steve’s eyes narrowed when he watched the man stiffen, before he slowly turned around, his gaze falling on Steve with a guarded weariness.
“Did you just scent me?”
Steve asked, taking a step forward when Bucky left the question unanswered.
“Beta’s can’t smell pheromones… but you just scented me before, didn’t you? That’s how you knew I was behind you.”
Steve said, his voice turning hard as his eyes ran up and down the man’s form. Beta’s came in all shapes and sizes, that was true, but it was unusual for one to look so… alpha.
He couldn’t be, could he? Tony’s little beta helper couldn’t be hiding his true nature?
The thought sent an icy chill down Steve’s neck. It was one thing to invite a strange beta into your house… but to have an alpha? And not only that, but an alpha that was hell-bent on hiding that he was an alpha… it was too much for Steve’s drunk brain to even consider.
“You were noisy.”
Bucky finally replied, his steel gaze piercing Steve like a blade.
Steve’s lips pressed into a firm line as he stepped forward the last few steps between them, pressing his nose to Bucky’s throat and inhaling.
Nothing.
Bucky sucked in a startled breath, stepping back against the elevator door defensively, his hands coming up to push Steve away.
The alpha didn’t budge.
“If I find out that you aren’t who you say you are, I’m going to enjoy taking you down.”
Steve whispered menacingly, his lips brushing across Bucky’s ear as he spoke. The beta shivered, his eyes going wide as Steve wound a hand around his neck, not squeezing, just there. A warning.
“And if you even think about weaselling your way into Tony’s pants… you’ll be needing a few more prosthetics when I’m done with you, understand?”
Steve growled, letting the threat stand for a long moment before he finally let him go, turning quickly on his heel and motioning him to follow.
“Tony doesn’t want you to leave at this time of night. I’ll take you to a spare room.”
He said absently, not even waiting for Bucky to object.
He grinned when after a moment, he heard the sound of the man’s footsteps following silently behind him. Steve briskly made it to the spare room before he opened the door and gestured him to go inside.
“JARVIS doesn’t monitor the bedrooms for the sake of privacy, but believe me, if I find you doing anything that I don’t deem acceptable, you'll be out on your ass so fast it will make your head spin.”
Bucky remained quiet despite the warning, moving past Steve to enter the room with not another word, but the alpha had other ideas.
He moved quickly, grabbing Bucky by the collar and slamming him into the door, satisfied when the beta let out a hiss of pain as his head smacked hard against it.
“I've got my eye on you, pretty boy. Keep your hands off Tony.”
He snarled, his eyes holding Bucky’s as he curled his lip in disgust. Bucky tried to pull out of the grasp, the first sign of panic only starting to register when Steve wouldn’t let go.
For a moment, Steve wondered how he was going to react… wondered how far he would have to push the beta before he actually saw something more than just the stony mask he held tight over his features.
How far he would have to take it until the cracks started showing in his façade?
Steve didn’t have to wait long to find out.
Before he could even blink, Bucky’s body twisted to the side, leaving Steve’s tight grasp to falter. The beta swung around, ducking his head quickly as his arms came up, using his surprise attack to shove Steve away from him.
He moved away then, backing up quickly towards the bed, his metal hand just inches away from the bedside lamp, itching to grab it.
“Please leave my room.”
He said icily, his chest rising fast as his adrenalin spiked, his eyes locked on Steve’s shocked face.
It took Steve a beat before he finally regained his composure. His eyes wide in disbelief.
What the fuck had just happened?
“Keep one eye open, beta. I’ll be in the next room.”
He finally spat through gritted teeth, a flash of excitement running up his spine when he watched the way Bucky stiffened.
Steve turned, stomping out the door before he threw one last nasty smile over his shoulder.
The fear on the man’s face making something inside of him come alive.
***
The next few times Steve had visited his friend, Bucky was nowhere to be seen. The beta was apparently there, working somewhere, but he always managed to keep out of his sight.
“How’re things with Mr Dark-and-Brooding?”
Steve asked, annoyed when the question slipped from his lips.
Why was he asking? He should be happy he didn’t have to see that little shit’s face again.
Tony gave him a curious glance before he spoke.
“Oh, ah, good I think. He’s been a bit quiet lately, though.”
Tony mused, his gaze going back to the football match they were watching on TV.
“Oh?”
Steve asked, trying to keep his own thoughts on the game. He didn’t know why, but it had been a little unnerving not seeing the beta skulking around.
Tony glanced at him before he took a sip of his beer.
“Yeah, I think he’s got something going on at home maybe. It’s like he’s too nervous to be in the same room as me, so I’ve just tried to leave him to it, ya know?”
He shrugged, the tinge of sadness in his voice making Steve’s lip twitch in irritation.
So, the warning had worked, then?
“Well, maybe he’s star-struck. Delayed reaction.”
Steve joked, trying to keep his tone light. Tony just shrugged again.
“Yeah, I guess.”
After the game finished, Tony checked his watch and blanched, jumping up from the couch and nearly knocking over his empty bottle.
“Shit! I forgot I have a meeting with Mumford at 3— why didn’t you alert me, JARVIS?”
Tony growled, marching over to the hallway that led to his bedroom.
“You turned off all notifications for today, sir.”
JARVIS replied, his voice cool and collected, a stark contrast to Tony’s high pitched shrill of frustration.
Steve finished off his second beer as Tony disappeared, the sound of him and his AI bickering easing a small smile on his face.
When Tony came out, he was dressed to the nines in a dark suit, his hair slicked back and his beard neatly combed.
“Fuck, I’m sorry Steve, this totally slipped my mind. Um, I should be back in a couple of hours, but feel free to leave when you like, you have the code for JARVIS to let you out, right?”
He asked, fixing his tie quickly as he checked himself in the hanging mirror.
“Don’t worry about me, I might just hang around for a while and drink all your booze.”
Steve said with a cheeky grin, eliciting a chuckle from Tony.
“Go for it, hopefully I can get back in time to join you.”
Tony said, moving towards the elevator as he sent back a warm smile to his friend.
“Wish me luck!”
He sang as the elevator doors slid open and he stepped inside.
“Good luck.”
Steve chuckled, watching as the doors closed, leaving him alone on the couch.
Steve sighed, grabbing himself another beer before he settled in and switched to basketball.
He was only really half an hour in when he heard a stumbling of footsteps. When he turned around to see who it was, his eyes immediately landed on the curiously flushed face of the beta. Bucky.
The beta’s eyes were glassy, darting around the room as he sucked in a few wheezy breaths.
“Where i-is Mr Stark?”
He huffed, the slight panic in his voice making Steve cock his head to the side.
“Not here, obviously.”
He smirked, a jolt of excitement running up his spine when the beta winced, a hand coming up to clutch at his chest.
“I need to go, need to, um, get home.”
He said, his voice coming out strained as he grimaced.
“Leaving early, huh? Not slacking off, are we?”
Steve asked, slipping on an amused smile when the man glared at him before he screwed his face up in pain.
“Please! I don’t feel well, just, I need to go, I need to go.”
He half whined, sucking in a loud gasp before his legs crumpled under him and he fell to his knees.
Steve was up, his smile disappearing quickly to be replaced by concern. But before he could even get close enough, the beta put his hand up, a sudden desperation dripping from his expression.
“Don’t come near me! Just— don’t. Stay there!”
He cried, before he doubled over and let out a strangled whimper.
Then Steve smelt it, his nose lifting in the air as the sweetest scent he had ever known swirled around him in a heady mix of heat.
“Fuck.”
Steve growled, lunging forward, his eyes wild as his body landed onto Bucky’s collapsed form.
Omega.
“I knew you were hiding something!”
Steve snarled, his hands wresting the omega’s wrists to the floor, his large body enveloping him.
A ripple of desire ran down his spine as the man beneath him shuddered, a high pitched whimper vibrating against his throat.
This beta— no, this omega... the front that he had put on this entire time, the quiet brooding contempt he exuded so well was the total opposite of how he was in this moment.
Steve pulled back to look at him, groaning when Bucky’s face came into view. His cheeks were red, his lips parted as he sucked in each rasping breath, and his eyes... those piercing blue eyes spilled pretty tears that ran down his cheeks.
“Are you seriously in heat right now? You little idiot.”
Steve growled, his teeth flashing as he leaned down, smashing his lips against his.
Bucky made a choking sound, struggling underneath him as he cried. Steve plunged his tongue inside, devouring him as he groaned.
Fuck he tasted so sweet, so fucking—
“Fuck!”
Steve hissed, pulling back when Buckys teeth clamped down hard in his tongue until he tasted blood.
“You little shit.”
He snarled, letting go of Buckys wrists only to turn him roughly, shoving him down so that he was in his belly.
“No, no, wait! Please d-dont do this!”
He sobbed, his breathing speeding up dangerously when Steve’s fingers grabbed the back of his pants and yanked them down harshly.
Steve groaned when he saw the soft milky skin of the omega’s ass come into view. Moving one hand down, he was almost mesmerised as he ran his fingers across his silken flesh and squeezed.
Beautiful.
He went lower, his fingers prying apart his plump cheeks as the omega shrieked, only to let out a hiss of pain when Steve breached him dry.
“Please...”
Bucky sobbed, his body shaking, the tight ring of his hole squeezing Steve’s finger so deliciously.
Soon, slick was easing his passage, his body heat slowly rising as Steve started pumping two more fingers inside of him.
Steve’s cock was hard, a drop of precum already forming at the tip as he forced Bucky’s hips up and presented his ass for the taking.
When Steves large body folded over the man, one hand wrapping around his taut belly in order to anchor him to the spot, Bucky let out one last desolate sob before he sagged in defeat.
Steve grinned, nibbling the tender flesh of Bucky’s ear before he slowly guided himself to the omegas slick entrance and started to force the thick head of his cock inside of him.
“Oh, god—“
Bucky choked out, gasping as he lurched forward, hands desperately scrambling for purchase, trying to escape the large cock attempting to split him open.
“Fuck, you’re tight.”
Steve ground out, before he snapped his hips forward, earning a strangled scream from the omega as he impaled him on his thick rod.
Steve groaned, gritting his teeth as he pulled back swiftly before slamming back in to the hilt, feeling the way the omega clamped down on him like a vice, like he was physically trying to push him out.
Steve found Bucky’s neck, sucking hard at his soft flesh, his tongue running up his nape.
“You taste, agh, so fucking good.”
Steve grunted, thrusting into him harder, his lips moving over the omega’s pale shoulder as his fingers gripped tightly into his dark hair, twisting the soft strands in his fist.
“Did you think you could get close to Tony, huh?”
Steve growled, snapping his hips forward harshly and making Bucky cry out, his back arching sharply up.
“What’s he going to think of you now?...”
Steve whispered, yanking Bucky’s head back with his hand as he leaned closer, his tongue running over his earlobe.
“Taking my cock like a good little slut.”
He smirked, his hips slamming into him faster, groaning as his knot started to swell.
“Fuck!”
Steve shouted, his knot catching on the tight rim of Bucky’s stretched hole.
He thrust into him twice more before he finally came with a groan, shoving his knot deep, filling him with his seed.
He slumped over him, their sweaty bodies collapsing to the floor. Steve groaned again, his hot breath heavy against the nape of Bucky’s neck.
“Fuck, that was good.”
He mumbled, pressing a tired kiss to the man’s shoulder.
Bucky didn’t move, the only sound in the resounding silence just the noise of each of his shallow breaths.
It was a long and heavy moment before Bucky spoke.
“I liked you.”
He whispered, his voice tight.
Numb.
“You weren’t in my unit, but a lot of us knew who you were.”
He breathed softly, almost too quiet to hear.
“I had to pretend to be a beta, to get into the army, you know? But even being beta was hard there... a lot of the higher-ups treated us like dirt. I don’t even know how many alphas I saw advance in rank before me.”
His voice wavered as he swallowed.
“But you... you were different, Captain Rogers... you were the only one who treated us with any respect. You were kind.”
His breathing picked up as he bit down a broken whimper, sniffling into the floor.
“I r-really liked you.”
Bucky cried softly, quiet sobs slipping from his throat.
Steve’s breathing stopped, his eyes wide and unseeing as Bucky’s words ran through his mind on repeat.
Oh, god. Oh... what had he done? What the fuck had he—
There was a sudden ding echoing from the hall as the sound of elevator doors opened.
Before either of them could move, Tony’s voice drifted into the hall, his footsteps coming closer with every passing second.
“Who’s hungry? I got Chinese on the way— well, Happy actually did, but technically I—“
Tony stopped dead in his tracks, the take-out bag falling from his fingertips and landing on the floor with a thud.
His eyes landed on the two connected bodies on the floor, his gaze going straight to Buckys tear-streaked face.
After a long moment of silence, Tony wrenched his gaze away from the omega... before he finally settled his horrified eyes on Steve.
“What... what did you do?”
