Horizon

Summary:

A place no one knows them, a world only they know of and a situation they can only share together. Gojo and Makima treasured it so but their time will soon come to a close. The only thing they can do is hope for a better future because they both are not ready to let go just yet.

Work Text:

As the sun sets on the horizon, they wondered how long they'll be able to meet again. Their circumstance was something troublesome and unique. They didn't really know how it happened or why it happened but despite being in different worlds, they met.

Their first time was a shock for the both of them, the situation was said to be rare and would likely cause a great deal of sacrifice to cross another world but they were a special case.

Having the same problem, they decided to cooperate with each other. They spent days, weeks and even months together looking for a way back to no avail. They didn't fully gave up on going back but they stopped being stressed about it and started to enjoyed their time together, in a place where no one knows them, a place only they knew of together.
As days went by, they eventually became close. Growing feelings they didn't even think they'll encounter. Isolated from people they know, they had each other. Their days were spent peacefully, sometimes they'll fight, just to see how each one of them will hold up. Going all out as if they owned the place. Most of the time they spent their days as if they're a normal couple living together. It wasn't like they wanted to settle down or anything, they still wanted to go back, but they started thinking that this world wasn't a bad place to be.

Then that day came, for some reason, a beautiful horizon, just like the one they saw before they were transported in this world, appeared before them again. And just like that, in a blink of an eye, they were back to where they were standing the moment they saw the horizon in their own worlds.

There were no backfires or consequences that happened to them, hence them being a special case. Checking the date and time, it continued from the time before they transported to that world. It's as if nothing happened, the time they spent was like a dream, but it certainly was real to them.

Since then, every time the horizon shows up, they were brought back to the world they knew they would meet. They thought things would stay that way, just leaving it to fate and all that but as time went by, the horizon started to show up at different times. It comes longer than the last time to pick them up to that place and when it does, it would show up again after just within a month, or a week or even within just a day to take them back to their own worlds.

Their time together was getting lesser and lesser as it goes by. Right now, they only had a day for themselves as they saw the horizon before them.

Gojo and Makima stared at the beauty of nature, sitting side by side, silence filled the atmosphere between them. They knew it was time, they knew their situation, and lastly, they already have a vague image of everything that will befall them afterwards.

Yes, it was time. Time to go..... back to their own worlds. No words escaped their lips, scared as if a single sound would destroy the little moment they have left today.

This day that they spent together was special, like every other day they had together, they treasured each moment they have. They enjoyed each other's company as they bought and shared the foods they passed by at stalls. They shared their experiences with one another, the times they fought, their missions and tasks, and even their plans on defeating and achieving their own goals. And at times, they just talked about nothing, random stuffs that fills the lost time they couldn't grasp together. The whole day was spent just for the two of them focusing on one another and right now, there was nothing left to say, just a feeling they knew they wouldn't want to let go but had to.

"How long....." Gojo, still looking at the horizon, was the one to break the silence. "How long since then?"

"2 years." Makima replied, eyes closed as she enjoyed the light breeze blowing through them. "Will..... will there be a next time?" She opened her eyes lightly, looking straight ahead as if asking no one in particular.

"I hope so." Gojo tilted his head in her direction. "I've always looked forward to seeing you."

Makima chuckled. "What, you still want to challenge me?"

"You distracted me the whole day."

"One word, I would've accepted."

Gojo chuckled at her response. "That would be fun, but this date was the right call today." With that Makima met his gaze and smiled.

"Yeah, it was."

A bittersweet atmosphere started to build between them once again. Though right now, holding each other's gaze, they smiled wholeheartedly at one another.

Makima stood up, so did Gojo. Their time together is coming to a close, only a few moments left. They each can't express the emotion they have into words. Even if they did, the limited time they had wouldn't allow it. Despite this, they wanted each other to know, to get across, and to let their feelings reach one another. So, as simple as possible, they knew they had to convey it in some way.

Gojo turned towards her direction and Makima tilted her head sideways, looking at him. He reached out his left hand and she held it with her left hand too.

"I want to see your eyes again." She stated, wanting to burn it one last time in her memory. "We might not meet again."

Gojo squeezed her hand, "Don't say that."

The remark made Makima smile. "Hmm." She said it in a tone of agreement and squeezed his hand back. "I want to meet again."

Gojo smiled as he brings down his blindfold. "I'll wait for as long as I can."

Their exchange both secured and assured one another. Smilingly looking deep into each other's eyes, not wanting to leaving any regrets behind, they both thought the same thing:

'Until we meet again.'

With that, the time they had together ran out, sending them back to both their own worlds. Looking at the horizon that gets them back and apart from each other, they smiled. Wholeheartedly hoping that one day, they would meet again.
