Notes:

This idea has been festering in my head for weeks now and finally tonight I just decided to see if I could write it and this is what I came up with. Let me know if you like it and you want to see where it goes as I have half a plotline in my head already.

Chapter 1: Not Sulking

Chapter Text

Buck was not sulking. He was not. He was not sat alone in his apartment sulking because his best friend was on a date with the pretty teacher he had met at his son’s school. Eddie was a grown-up and if he wanted to date, he could date. That was fine. That was allowed. He had been divorced for over a year and he could move on with the beautiful Ana. That was perfectly fine. And even if Buck sat alone in his apartment sulking it would not be over the fact Eddie was on a date, if was sulking it would be over the fact that Eddie had not asked him to watch Christopher. Buck loved spending time with Christopher Diaz, in his opinion Chris was the best kid out there, and there was literally no one Buck would rather spend time with more than the hyperactive nine-year-old, well Eddie was a close second, but second no the less.

So Buck was sulking in his apartment, but only because Eddie had literally asked everyone else to watch Christopher which is why the boy was spending the night at the Wilson household rather than hanging out eating pizza and playing video games with Buck. Chris was spending the night while Eddie was out on this date with Ana and not just any date but this third date. It was Eddie’s third date with Ana, and he had made sure that Chris was not at home. Buck knew what this means there could only be one logical (in Buck’s head anyway) explanation for this tonight Eddie and Ana were taking their relationship to the next leave. Eddie was having sex with Ana tonight.
This was definitely not the reason Buck was sulking.

Buck’s inner rantings about not sulking came to a halt with the sound of a rather angry knock on his front door. With a sigh, Buck got up off the couch and made his way over to the door wishing whoever it was would go away.

“What the hell Buck?!” Buck opened the front door to find an incredibly angry Shannon Diaz standing at his front door, which was odd for several reasons. The first being that he was not overly close with Shannon, he liked her, she had created his literal favorite person in the world, but the pair had not spent any real time together, they hung out at events that Chris wanted them both at, Birthdays, school events and every now again a dinner at the Diaz house but they did not hang out. The second being he did not know that Shannon knew where he lived. And finally, and maybe most important he had no idea what he could have possibly done to make her so angry.

“Shannon?” Buck question, “What are you doing here? What’s going on?”

“What’s going on is that my ex-husband is on a date with that bitch Ana Flores!” Shanna yelled, “This is all your fault.”

“My fault?” Buck exclaimed, simply confused by the whole situation, and wanted to go back not sulking in his apartment.

“Yes, your fault!” Shannon confirmed, “How could you let this happen?”

“What do you mean? You and Eddie split up over a year ago, you had to know at some point he would move on,” Buck responded, “I mean what did you think was going to happen? If you didn’t want Eddie to date people you probably shouldn’t have divorced him! The guy is moving on!”

Shannon looked at Buck like he was being ridiculous before saying, “I’m perfectly fine with Eddie moving on. This isn’t the issue here. The issue is who he is moving on with!”

“Ana?” Buck questioned, “You don’t like Ana?”

“You do?” Shannon responded loudly, the outrage clear in her voice, “Are you telling me you’ve been sat here happy Eddie is going out with Ana”.

“I don’t know Ana! But I trust Eddie I’m sure she’s lovely!” Buck argued back, not even sure what he was really arguing about. The poor boy was confused by this whole turn of events.

“So, you don’t have a problem with Eddie dating again?” Shannon asked, this was the first thing she had said to Buck that was not yelled at.

Buck was taken aback by this question, to which Shannon was clearly expecting him to respond with by saying he did have a problem with Eddie dating, but Buck really did not want to talk about his feeling towards Eddie’s date so aimed to move the question back to Shannon, “Well clearly you do?”

“Of course, I have an issue with Eddie dating Ana,” yelled Shannon, “That’s no who he should be dating!”

“Well, who should he be dating?” Buck yelled back.

“You!” Screamed Shannon. Buck froze at Eddie’s ex-wife’s word. This was certainly expected, “I did not divorce Eddie only for him to move on with the wrong bloody person,”.

“Me?” Stammered Buck, “You want Eddie to date me,”

“Naturally!” Shannon bellowed, “I thought you two idiots had been secretly dating for months and then I find out, from Christopher nonetheless, then that wasn’t the case and Eddie was on a date with his ex-teacher! Who I’ve never liked!”

“You thought…me and Eddie…for months,” Stuttered Buck, “I’m really confused,”.

Shannon sighed, “You and Eddie. He’s clearly in love with you and I don’t know you overly well, but I was fairly sure you love him or have a lot this terrible wrong?”.

“Let’s have a beer,” Buck decided, “You think beer? I think I have some wine from last time Taylor came over. Or stronger there is a bottle of tequila somewhere,”.

This time it was Shannon’s turn to look at Buck in confusion, “I like beer,”.

Buck nodded and made his way over to the kitchen, grabbed two beers, and opened them. Shannon followed him and was promptly handed a beer, she stared at it for a moment, “This is Eddie’s favorite beer,”.

“I know,” Buck confirmed before taking a long swig “I buy it in hopes that maybe he’ll one day he’ll love me back”.

Shannon stopped mid-drink, “So I was right, you are in love with him?”.

“Spot on” Buck confirmed, “You are the first person I’ve admitted that too,”.

“Damn,”

“Yeah” Buck agreed, they both took a drink, “So judging by all the yelling you aren’t upset by my feeling towards your ex-husband”.

“Clearly not,” Shannon told him, “So has anything happened between you two because like I said I honestly thought you’d been together months now,”.
Buck laughed, “God no, just me being ridiculously I love with a man who does not feel the same way about me,”.

“Buck, he’s clearly in love with you”.

“Shannon, he very clearly is not in love with me,”.

“He is too!”

“Is not!”

Buck and Shannon laughed, “Didn’t mean to turn into a seven-year-old then”.

Shannon took a sip of beer, “Buck, you and Eddie have something special and anyone with a working pair of eyes can see that for miles. He trusts you. I know Eddie and promise you this whole thing is not one-sided,”

“You can’t know that!” Buck argued, “Besides isn’t he straight?”

Shannon shrugged at this, “I don’t know it’s hard enough getting the man to talk about his feelings, never mind his sexual orientation. We got together at 19 and I know there was one other girl before me, maybe he’s just never had the chance to…branch out,”

Buck snorted.

“You’re bi?” Shannon guessed.

“Yep, not that I shout about it. I was a bit of a man-whore when I first started at the 118 and there is the whole thing about bisexuals being greedy and I didn’t want to add to stereotype” Buck explained, “I’m not closeted though, I go to pride, I’ve had boyfriends, if you look into my Instagram there are pictures...I just don’t openly talk about it…what are you doing?”

Shannon grinned up from her phone which is had got out the second he had mentioned Instagram and pictures, “I wanna see these photos”.
Buck groaned as Shannon did a big swipe down his Instagram feed, looking for photos before he joined the LAFD.

“Oh my god! Who is he? This guy is so hot!” Shannon exclaimed.

Buck looked over towards Shannon's phone to see a photo of him at maybe twenty-four, he was shirtless and covered in paint and glitter, his hair the longest and curliest he’s ever let it go. Next to him in the photo was a man, also shirtless covered in glitter, but this man had dark eyes and hair and his skin was a lot darker than Buck’s. In the photo, they had their arms wrapped around each other in a close embrace and while Buck was looking at the camera with a large grin with the man beside him was staring at Buck as the picture had clearly caught up mid-laugh at something Buck had just said.

“That’s my Ex, Jamie” Buck told her.

“How many shirtless photos when men do you have on here?” Shannon asked as she keeps looking through his Instagram.

“Okay, that’s enough of that,” Declared Buck, making a mental reminder to go through his Instagram and delate some stuff before Chimney found it.

Shannon pouted by agreed and put away her phone, “Right so what’s the plan?”

“Plan?” Buck asked, once again confused. That seemed to be his main feeling when around Shannon, confusion.

“Yes, about Eddie and Ana? What are we planning on doing?” Shannon asked, finishing her beer, and going to the fridge to get them both another one.

Buck did not even bat an eye at another Diaz making themselves at home in his place just responded with, “Nothing, I want Eddie to be happy, and if Ana is what...”

“No! No! No, that is not what we are going to do,” Shannon interrupted as she handed him a beer, “Eddie would be happier with you and you know who else would be happier if you and Eddie were together?”

“You?” Buck guessed.

“No! Well yes, but I wasn’t talking about me, I was talking about Christopher!” Shannon told him.

“Chris?” Buck questioned.

“Yes, my son Christopher! You want him to happy right Buck?” Shannon asked.

“Yes, of course!” Buck replied honestly.

“Cool, then you’ll marry Eddie and become his second Dad. Sorted,” Shannon stated as if they were plans for what she needs to pick up from the store.

Buck blinked at that before saying, “You think Chris wants me to marry Eddie?”

“Buck,” Shannon said softly, “My son literally worships you; you are his actual favorite person in the whole damn world. He is always talking about the thing you do with him and the things you buy him. Christopher thinks you are the coolest person ever and he also knows that you make his Dad happier than ever,”

“I do?” Buck questioned and it was at this moment Shannon realized that Buck had no idea how deeply both Diaz boys cared about him.

“You do. Eddie and Chris adore you. You are the best thing that happens to them and I’m so grateful that I have you looking after my boys,” Shannon told him sincerely, “Which is why I need you and Eddie to actually get together and I’m going to make it happened,”.

“I’m not sure that’s a good idea,” Buck intersected.

“Trust me Buck,” Shannon, “I’ve got a good feeling about this,”.
