Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

Wilbur Soot would like to call himself smart.

Certainly, you’d have to admit his knowledge about weird topics was fascinating to hear about, and the way he perceives different life aspects was not boring at all. His ability to learn and to help others in the process of learning was admirable, he was always willing to explore subjects and educate himself about them and try to research for the most accurate information.

(He would also like to call himself humble, thank you very much.)

He was an average social person, he liked to talk with people about every little thing he was interested in. It was always better to share your opinion with someone willing to listen and add things to the topic, different views and all that.

Content creation had brought him so many friends all over the world, some of them who he barely talks to now, some gone, and some others that keep him company till the date.

And there was someone high on his ‘friends tier list’, someone that he would consider more than a friend, a brother. Specifically, a little brother.

Tom Simons, also known as TommyInnit.

They had only known each other for a couple of years but the kid instantly clicked with Wilbur and it didn’t take too much for Tommy to grow into him. His childish personality and his humor would charm anyone, in Wilbur’s opinion.

Today, they were having a big meet-up in Brighton. Everyone was sitting next to the coast, eating and talking. Lots of people meeting for the first time and some others already knowing each other too well. As usual, Tommy was next to him squatting as not to sit on the ground with his shorts.

In the beginning, you could’ve confused this as some normal scenery, just a lot of friends meeting each other and having fun, right? But you’re wrong, there was something off. Wil knew.

Adding to everything said before, Wilbur had another interesting quality.

Wilbur was an observant person.

That’s why when he noticed the way Tommy played anxiously with his hands, couldn’t stay still, kept ruffling his hair every two minutes, laughed awkwardly and abnormally quiet whenever his softened gaze laid on certain 6’6’’ faceless streamer, he knew exactly what was going on.

Now, now, he wasn’t exactly a Tommy Expert (or maybe he was, who knows) but he was sure that the way he was acting wasn’t normal at all.

Usual Toms would be being the life of the party, joking with everyone, and being really into every conversation there was happening at that one specific moment, laughing loudly and making his best to make everyone laugh. With Tubbo’s presence, he would probably make some jokes and he would’ve practically shoved him next to him.

But Tommy right now was all fidgety, he was doing that thing he mimicked from him where he keeps touching his hair and bringing it more upwards, his laugh was so low Wilbur would even call it shy. Hell, he wasn’t even joining conversations, opting to just listen to everyone.

And Wilbur noticed, because of fucking course he noticed, the change.

It happened when Tubbo joined the main talk and added some silly commentary, which was followed by a bad joke on Ranboo’s part.

Tommy’s laugh was way louder than any other he did before, even surprising Ranboo who assured him that “it wasn’t that funny, man”, 5 words enough to make the blond stop laughing and become embarrassed all of a sudden paired with a sulky “Shut up, Ranboob”.

If that was all that happened, Wilbur would’ve let it slide. However, the second Ranboo’s eyes went back to his food and Tubbo, he saw it. The way those blue eyes immediately soften and the fond smile on his face, that warmly affectionate glace Tommy did was enough.

That’s how Wilbur knew that something was up with Tommy.

And also the message he received that night that said “WIL HELP ME” kinda gave it away.
