Faking it?

Summary:

Ochako is being bombarded with romantic attention and she's not sure what to do about it. With her own feelings swirling deep down, she approaches her best friend for a chat.

Notes:

Preamble; As the evening draws in around Class 2-A's dorm, Uraraka nervously walks up to Midoriya's door. Pausing in front of it, she hastily smooths her skirt and takes a deep breath. She knocks on the door.

It opes.

Work Text:

“Uraraka?”

“Hey Deku, can I come in? I want to talk to you about something.”

“Sure.”

“Deku, I know this might sound strange, but, well, I need your help with something very delicate.”

“Of course, Uraraka. Come in."

"Thanks."

"So, what do you need?”

“Would you pretend to be my boyfriend?”

“Huh?”

“Since the sports festival, all these guys I’ve never met have started trying to get me to go out with them. I’ve had guys from the general course, guys from the support course, a couple of third years, even an overconfident first year kid and a few girls! I turned them all down but some of them just won’t take no for an answer. So, when one guy asked me why I said no, I first tried to explain that I was focusing on my hero training. For some reason he didn’t buy it, so I told him I was already taken and that me and my boyfriend were trying to keep it private, but now I think he’s told the rest of his class cause suddenly people are bugging me and asking me who I’m with.”

“Uraraka, slow down! Breath”

“Sorry, it’s just that, all this romantic attention is new to me.”

“No one’s ever asked you out before?”

“No. It’s a bit overwhelming actually. So, now I need to find a fake boyfriend to get these guys off my back. I thought about who I could turn to and, well, I thought that my best friend might be a good place to start.”

“I’ll do it. I’ll be your stand-in-boyfriend to get some pushy guys off your back.”

“Thank you Deku! You have no idea how relieved that makes me.”

“I’m always happy to help. You told them that you already had a boyfriend, right? So, we should probably get our story straight in case anyone starts asking questions.”

“Good idea.”

“Should we tell the rest of our class?”

“Probably not. I did say we were trying to keep it private. It would make sense for that to extend to the rest of the class.”

“Yeah, that makes sense. So how long have we been, er, ‘dating’?”

“Um, definitely before the Sports Festival. While I’ve been told out match was spectacular, it was also quick.”

“A show of respect for each other’s drive but not dragged it out unnecessarily.”

“Exactly”

“But how long before? Beginning of second year? Some point during first?”

“Well, it could be that our feelings have been building since some significant moment in first year but they blossomed at the start of this year. I think it’s rare to get the whole love-at-first-sight thing you find in the movies.”

“That sounds accurate.”

“Huh?”

“Er, an accurate observation. My Mum told me it was quite a slow burn between her and my Dad at first. So, we confessed to each other shortly after the start of this year and found out we wanted more since first year?”

“Yeah. Maybe since work-study? You almost died during the raid. If anything would make a lovesick girl realise her feelings, surely it would be hearing that the guy she likes was going to die and watching him narrowly avoid fate.”

“Yeah, or possibly as early as the summer camp? Witnessing your strength and determination against Toga, or your caring side when you literally tore up one of your blouses to make me some improvised splints. That was pretty amazing.”

“Or maybe earlier than that! Like when you were so determined and inspirational in your exam. Or witnessing your bravery when you fought against Bakugo. Or maybe when you jumped the height of a high-rise building and punched a robot in the face to stop it from crushing me.”

“Or maybe when you saved my life when I fell from that punch. Or when you saved me from embarrassment rather than laugh at some loser tripping over his own two feet. Or when you went to Present Mic and asked to give me some of your points.”

“You saw that!?”

“All Might showed a video clip of it in the results message. I never really got a chance to bring that up before. Thank you for trying to help me, even when I was a stranger.”

“It would’ve been wrong for me not to! I heard you talk as though you had no points. Someone with power like that, someone willing to waste their time saving me from being in the wrong place at the wrong time when they could be using their power on earning actual points? That person deserves a place here more than I do.”

“I don’t deserve this any more than you do. I got in through the same exam as you did. We earnt our spots here, and I’m really glad we did. Even in all the little things between all those big moments, you’ve shown me kindness I never knew before. You’re wonderful and worth all the time in the world.”

“That’s really sweet of you, Deku. Truth be told, you really did leave an impression on me that day. I’ve not really been able to shake you from my mind ever since. I kinda don’t want that to change. How could I not want to be your friend? Heck, I’d happily date you for real if you weren’t so focused on he-”

“I’m exactly the same.”

“So Deku, about that fake boyfriend thing.”

“Yeah?”

“How about we just ignore the fake part?”

Notes:

And scene.

This was just something I had lying around in my files for months that I wasn't doing anything with.
I hope you enjoyed this slightly different kind of fluff.
