Accismus

Summary:

(n) feigning disinterest in something while actually desiring it

Cherche is well aware Grima would never ask about Yale's condition herself.

Notes:

Ah, lore. And the painful stuff, too.

I hope to get the next drabble out more quickly. External factors, leave me alone!

Work Text:

“How’s Yale’s condition?”

Cherche glances to her left, where the Fell Dragon is sitting a few yards away. She knows quite well what Grima is doing, but she has no objections. Grima has a reputation to keep up, after all.

“They’re certainly going to make it. Their eye, however…” Camilla trails off, both of the women remembering the scene.

“No chance of recovery for it?” Cherche asks, trying to seem innocent, like someone who’s not asking the question for the benefit of an eavesdropper. She’s not sure she’s convincing anyone, but Camilla seems to understand what she’s doing.

“No. Yale’s lucky that they’re only losing their eye, though. Any more force behind that arrow and they easily could have died.” Camilla gives a soft hum. “I suppose that’s lucky for all of us Heroes as well, given that the contract, well...expires if the summoner does.”

Cherche sees Grima tense up at that, but it’s the smallest of motions, one she only recognizes because of how often the two of them have battled side by side.

“You’re correct, but let’s not think about that scenario. They’re alive, and I would say that’s what matters. All we can really hope for is a quick recovery.”

“You’re correct as well. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go find Corrin. He seemed quite shaken himself.” With a small smile, the queen walks away, in search of her younger brother.

Cherche stands there for a few seconds, thinking, behind walking in the other direction. As she passes Grima, she swears she hears a quiet “thank you” from the dragon.

She keeps walking, but now with a small smile. It would seem even the wings of despair have some level of affection for the summoner.
