Wag Kang Mag Expect (You Shouldn't Expect)

Summary:

READ THE TAGS FIRST PLEASE

Kaya wag kang mag assume...tanga (which is why you shouldn’t assume...idiot)

it's in English I swear

Notes:

Istarted this in the start of August for Buwan ng Wika- translates to Month of (the Filipino) Language

This is my first songfic :D specifically a tagalog (my mother tongue) song, Wag kang mag expect by Fishy Bishie I’ve roughly translated the lyrics to english but it’s a bit rough around the edges since there’s a bunch of stuff and sayings that don’t have direct translations.

Please do check it out here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNHVjlKM3VM )

Disclaimer I did this translation myself to what feels a bit more natural also this is kinda like a glorified shitpost so yeah

Also there’s a small tagalog lesson at the notes below so you should probs read that too :), i just wanted an excuse to write something with this song

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It started small, just a small, tiny, manageable crush on a certain Snake Pillar who Giyuu had befriended. In fact they had gotten close enough that Iguro took off his bandages around him, but only in private.

Currently they were having a little sake together during their shared day/night off in Giyuu’s estate, taking turns sipping straight from the bottle. Giyuu said something a bit funny and Obani smiled at that. The taller man stared at the shorter's small smile and felt his cheeks turn pink.

~

Oh ngumiti lang siya sayo (all they did was smile at you)

Bumalik agad ang feelings mo (you felt your feelings/love for them come back)

~

Sometime after that night the two switched to a first name basis. Giyuu’s heart always fluttered a bit when he heard his name come from Obanai’s mouth.

~

Sinabi lang pangalan mo (all they did was say your name)

Nahulog kaagad, Gago! (you fell for them again, you fool1)

Mabait lang siya, oo (they’re just being kind to you)

Tangapin mo na (just accept it already)

~

Giyuu knows he loves Obnai, but he’s unsure if the other likes him back.

He keeps his feelings under wraps and tries to tell himself there’s no way he’ll like him back. That doesn’t keep him from hoping, though.

~

Hindi na yan mag-iiba (nothing about this relationship will change)

~

He hangs around Obanai all the time, said man quite enjoys the company actually. They like to go out during lunch to a little soba place they found and then walk through a certain trail in the forest and just chat.

To Giyuu those little outings were like dates, he couldn’t be happier when the two of them went out like that.

~

Wag kang mag-expect kasi masasaktan ka lang (You shouldn’t expect for anything ‘cause you’ll only end up hurt)

Wag kang mag-assume para hindi ka mag mukhang tanga (You shouldn’t assume so you won’t look like a fool)

Wag kang mag-expect kasi masasaktan ka lang! (you shouldn’t expect for anything ‘cause you’ll only end up hurt!)

Kaya wag kang mag assume...tanga (which is why you shouldn’t assume...idiot)

~

Giyuu felt his heart being shattered when Iguro told him about his crush on Mitsuri.

He lied to Iguro and said that he’s happy the shorter found someone he loved. Obanai looked so happy talking about her and there was no way in the seven rings of hell he’d take that happiness away. Iguro smiled and started to gush about Mitsuri, Giyuu just nodded along despite how much he wanted to cry.

~

Hindi na magiging “kayo” (you two will never be a “thing”)

Isaksak sa kokote mo (get that in your head already)

Oh impossible yan kailangan mo ng dragon ball pito! (oh you know that it’s impossible and you’ll need 7 dragon balls!)

~

A few months had passed since Obanai told Giyuu about his crush on the pink haired girl. The pillar meeting ended a couple of hours ago, Giyuu saw Iguro sneaking fond glances at Mitsuri. He felt a sick feeling in his gut but pushed it down for the time being.

He headed straight back to his estate after the meeting. He kicked off his shoes and headed straight to the bathroom. Giving his reflection a small glance before he started to cry. His knees buckled and he knelt on the ground with his hand covering his mouth.

He still loves Obanai so much, he had hoped his feelings would disappear already but alas, things were not that simple.

~

Mag move on ka na diyan! O respetuhin mo ang sarili mo, (just move on already! Or just give yourself respect)

Ikaw lang ang masasaktan diba (you’re the only one who’ll get hurt, right?)

~

There was one night however, that Giyuu felt he thought he royally fucked and simultaneously didn’t.

It was another one of his and Obanai’s drinking nights, they were sitting on the engawa of the latter’s estate and passing the sake bottle to each other. One thing led to another and Giyuu got up, grabbed Obanai’s face and kissed him. He immediately ran away back to his own estate.

The next day, to Giyuu’s relief (and disappointment), Obanai forgot all about the previous night. Giyuu’s heart ached when he saw the way Obanai’s face soften at Mitsuri who came to keep him company in his hungover state

~

Wag kang mag-expect kasi masasaktan ka lang (You shouldn’t expect ‘cause you’ll only get hurt)

Wag kang mag-assume para hindi ka mag mukhang tanga (you shouldn’t assume so you won’t look like a fool)

Wag kang mag-expect kasi masasaktan ka lang! (You shouldn’t expect ‘cause you’ll only get hurt!)

~

The last time he saw Obanai was after the final battle. He saw his corpse entangled with Mitsuri’s with smiles, scars, and blood adoring their faces.

Giyuu felt his heart shatter in more ways than he could count.

Kaya wag kang mag-assume...tanga (which is why you shouldn’t assume...idiot)

Notes:

The “oo” is intentional,it directly translates to “yes” but in that lyric it doesn’t function that way. (“no” is “hindi” btw)

Tanga and gago both mean fool, idiot, dumbass, moron (you get the point) and while both are insults “gago” is a tad bit more derogatory

I struggled the most with the “bumalik agad ang feelings mo” line. It’s basically that feeling where you have a crush on someone, you think you got over it but then they did something and suddenly you’re simping for them again. Idk how to translate that to the lyric tho lmao

“O” means “or”

O and Oo btw aren’t pronounced as “oh” and “oh-oh”, in tagalog and filipino in general the “o” sound is like the “o” in “onii-chan” (I can’t think of a better example lol)

We don’t have a words for “he/him” “she/her” we only have gender neutral ones in this case it’s “siya”

Thank you so much for reading this monstrosity and rambling, have a nice day/night y'all :D
