Chapter 1: You Knew Just What I Was There For

Chapter Text

Wren groaned as a twinge of pain shot through her body. As she walked, she could feel her ribs moving loosely, as if they were about to fall out of place. Her chest and back ached relentlessly. Her internal organs felt like they were jostling around inside her with every movement. Her skin felt tight, and her limbs felt as if they were on fire. She was absolutely exhausted. The full moon was only seven hours away now.

Despite this, Wren trudged on, powering through the pain to make it towards her destination. Stopping at a large one-story house on a quiet street, she knocked at the door and waited.

The door opened and a voice excitedly exclaimed “Hello, puppy!” before arms were thrown around her shoulders and Wren was enveloped in a crushing hug.

Feeling pain explode anew throughout her body, Wren winced and inhaled sharply. Groaning, Wren managed to say, “Valerie… for the millionth time… you know what my name is!”

“Whatever you say, puppy dearest!” came Valerie’s enthusiastic reply.

Wren quickly disengaged from the hug, as the tall vampire asked brightly, “So to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?”

Wren said, “It’s the full moon,” to which Valerie replied, “Ah, of course.” Winking at Wren, she said, “And here I thought you’d sought me out for my scintillating company and dashing good looks!”

“Well, ordinarily, I would have. You know how much I love having playtime with you. But…” Wren was hesitant with her next words. “I’m really sorry to ask this of you, but…” Valerie nodded. “Go on, darling.” Wren took an anxious breath. “Would it be okay if I stayed with you tonight?”

Valerie smiled broadly. “But of course, my love, of course! I’ll take good care of you today, tonight, and tomorrow, don’t you worry!”

Wren smiled, as relief flooded through her body. “You’re a lifesaver, Val, really! I owe you one!”

Valerie scoffed. “Nonsense, darling! I’m just doing as any friend should. Now come on inside, pup, and make yourself at home!”

Wren moved past Valerie, through the open door and into the spacious living room. Setting herself down gingerly on the couch, Wren took off her shoes, and her bag, letting them drop to the ground, as Valerie closed the front door and came to sit next to her, a delighted smile on her face.

“So,” Valerie began excitedly, “before they left, Vivian told me they suggested that you come to stay with me, so I’ve already got my basement set up and good to go for tonight.”

Before Wren could voice her surprise, Valerie eagerly continued, “I’ve also got a hot bath waiting for you, plus a heated blanket, and some tea, if you’d like some!”

Wren was floored. “Honestly, Valerie, you’re just too kind, you know that?”

Valerie enthusiastically replied, “I’m only doing the bare minimum for a lovely friend!”

Overcome by a sudden impulse, Wren tentatively asked, “Can I… Can I kiss you, Val?” to which Valerie giggled, “Silly puppy, you know you don’t have to ask! But, yes, please do kiss me!”

Wren smiled, gazing into Valerie’s gorgeous silver eyes, as the vampire reached out to place her hand against Wren’s cheek.

Wow, she’s so pretty, Wren thought to herself. Valerie’s eyes were hypnotizing, and Wren would have liked nothing more than to lose herself in the vampire’s mercury gaze. Valerie moved forward to capture Wren’s lips in a soft but loving kiss that left the girl feeling invigorated and energised.

Pulling away slowly, Wren sighed happily. Valerie went to move in for another kiss, and Wren obliged her. Feeling arousal stir in her abdomen, Wren moved to straddle Valerie, and sighed with pleasure as she continued to make out with the vampire.

Wren began to grind against Valerie, the vampire moaning underneath her. Suddenly, a burst of pain exploded in Wren’s abdomen, and her breath hitched as she gasped and shut her eyes forcefully.

Groaning, Wren opened her eyes to see Valerie looking up at her, eyes wide with concern. “Puppy, is everything okay?”

Wren answered shakily, “Actually… before we go any further, I… I think I’ll take that bath now. Despite all appearances to the contrary, I feel absolutely terrible.”

Valerie laughed. “Oh no, darling, you look positively death-like! You’re not fooling anyone!” With a mischievous grin, Valerie joked, “I would know, being a vampire and all!”

Rolling her eyes, Wren removed herself from Valerie’s lap to stand up, wobbling as she did so. Valerie was up in an instant, placing a hand gently on the girl’s shoulder. “Oh, my love… I think you should soak in the bath for at least a few hours!”

Wren nodded silently in agreement, before allowing herself to be gently led to the vast, opulent bathroom, where Valerie’s marble bathtub was already nearly full, and steam could be seen rising from the water.

Valerie closed the bathroom door behind her and ordered Wren to take her clothes off. “Okay, now strip, puppy!” Wren obliged, slowly taking her clothes off, wincing the entire time. Throwing the garments aside, Wren couldn’t help but feel vulnerable, standing naked next to the fully dressed vampire.

Valerie smiled. “Good! Now get in the bath!” Wren rolled her eyes. “Who are you, my mother?”

Valerie laughed. “Perhaps not, but from what you’ve told me, I’d certainly do a better job looking after you than she did!” Wren snorted. “Honestly, that’s a very low bar, but you’re welcome to give it your best shot, mum.

Valerie replied, “Oh, darling, you know I will!”

Wren chuckled, before gently lowering herself into the hot bath and sighing with relief. “Fuck, this feels so good!”

Valerie beamed. “I’m glad you like it, dearest! I’ve kept the heat steady at 40 degrees, and I’ve put in bath oils and those salts that you like so much to make it better for you!”

Wren quirked an eyebrow. “How do you know how I like my baths?”

Valerie winked at her. “I guess you’ll have to ask Vivian how I know.”

Wren huffed, “Of course you asked them! I’m not surprised in the least.”

“Well, it’s a good thing I know that you hate surprises!” Valerie chuckled. “Now, shall I leave you to it, or would you like some company?”

Wren thought for a moment. “You can stay here if you like, but I think I’m going to just relax, close my eyes, and relish the pain relief for a while, so it may be a little boring for you.”

“Of course, love. In that case, I’ll busy myself with more preparations for tonight, and while I’m at it, I’ll bring you some tea. Lemon and ginger mixed with chamomile, just the way you like it!”

Wren laughed as she sank further into the bath. “Oh, Valerie, you know you don’t have to work this hard to get into my pants! All you have to do is ask.”

“Oh, stop it! I know very well how to get into your pants! I’m just being a good friend is all!”

Wren smiled at Valerie. “A perfect friend, more like it.” Valerie cooed, “Well, aren’t you just the sweetest little puppy?

Wren lifted an arm out of the bath to make a finger gun gesture at her. “You know it!”

As Valerie left to bring Wren her tea, the girl sighed, closed her eyes, and let the warmth of the water wash over her. She would cherish this bath, and the few hours of relaxation it would afford her. It would be the only time she would be relatively free of pain for a very long while.
