Chapter Text

Matteo had made the first move on the blonde demon, making an off remark about the scorched black jacket he was wearing. The well worn and scratched leather was surprisingly tight on him, and he couldn’t help but point out the fact that it made Ludwig look desperate. When the demon ignored him with a scoff before trying to turn away Matteo made a grab for him with his cuffed hand, only for the link between the cuff on his hand and neck to be grabbed and pulled. Instinctively he grabbed what he first thought was his jacket, the other hand going and slamming into his shoulder to catch him as he was launched forward into him.

He was inches from Ludwig’s face, an growl leaking out of the grimace Ludwig had shown toward the angel’s antics. Matteo gave whatever it was a pull watching the man flinch as his head moved down. He glanced off to the side, seeing it was the chain attached to the collar around the German’s very own neck. The iron chains were cold but smooth, and Matteo internally decided he liked how they felt in his hand. The silken strap between his own was soft but held no weight, even with Ludwig pulling it tight he could probably get free if he wanted to... Meanwhile with Ludwig’s...

The Italian angel scoffed, turning his head away with a smile.

“What’s the matter, demone?” He gave the chain another hard yank, the blonde barely flinching. “Did someone never teach you manners?”

“My, my... so needy...” Ludwig muttered, twisting the silken bind around his knuckle. “Are all angels this desperate for attention, or, is it just you?”

“Desperate?!” The Italian laughed, “That’s your best joke yet. Why would I be desperate for attention from a demon like you?”

Ludwig smirked, pulled the silk forward as Matteo threw his head back, closing the gap Matteo had put between them with his laugh.

“I don’t know Matteo, why would you?”

Matteo gulped, god help him. He was sure demons like Ludwig were the reason angels fell. Certain of it actually. Why the hell was he allowed to almost purr his name with such a teasing tone- That bitch knew exactly what he was doing the attractive shallow dangerous-- wait... what was that first word..!?

Ludwig reached out and gently tilted the brunet’s head back so that Matteo’s eyes met his own. Damn those eyes... those shining sky blue eyes. He’d seen that man use those baby blues to get out of so many things. Those damn lips would seamlessly sew together sentences to convince everyone around him he knew what he was doing, lulling them to listen to his every word and dooming them--

You’re staring.” The blonde pointed out with a bit too much self satisfaction, and Matteo found blood rushing to his face and how much he-- you know what-- the light was hurting his eyes let’s just close them problem solved!

“No I’m not!” The Italian shouted, probably a bit too loudly with them being merely a foot apart at most. The German demon chuckled under his breath and Matteo had to quickly brush away his thoughts where he swore he could feel the man’s torso vibrating against his own as that warm, deep laugh bounced in his chest.

“...How cute.”

Matteo paused. Wait.. what had he said? It took a moment for that to load and process before he lit up three shades redder, and  immediately decided now he wanted to leave. yea that’ll definitely fix the problem! His heart couldn’t be pounding out of his chest for a demon if he just wasn’t here man he was a genius. He pulled hard down on the chain around Ludwig’s neck, hoping to throw him off balance so he could push him away, his eyes flying open about to start shouting when something slammed down into him.

Little had he known while he eyes were closed, Ludwig had been staring right back. He could feel his own heart racing and his stomach fill with butterflies-- it was so lovely and so inconvenient. It made it so hard for him to think clearly, and he needed to think clearly. He had to be smart, he had to make and follow his plans to the letter, lest any others find out about him backing down. He needed to focus, and yet every time this angel came by his focus decided that the only thing it wanted to think about was Matteo.

He found himself leaning closer as he admired the gentle curve of the Italians jaw, those lips that Matteo would use to talk on and on to him with, spinning words of both unintentional beauty and malice. The beautiful freckles that danced gentle patterns across his cheeks and down his neck. How his hair swooped and fell and bounced like clouds... He wondered if Matteo’s hair was soft like the silken chain he was gripping. He couldn’t help but hear the small voice in the back of his mind whine that the Italian had shut his eyes, it complained loudly, just wanting to see those soft adventurine hues. It craved them.  It craved him.

Caught in his stupor, Ludwig hadn’t been paying attention to the world around him and had honestly let down his guard, so when the Italian’s eyes flew open out of no where, and the hand holding the chain around his neck decided to sharply pull down, he couldn’t stop himself from flying forward. Before he knew it he had not only lost his balance and fell forward, but also felt the soft graze of the angel’s lips against his own.

Matteo didn’t realize what he did until he felt the full weight of the larger blonde dip into him and they both fell to the ground, the German on top of him. Matteo felt a soft pressure against his lips, but it was gone as quickly as it came as the German was able to push his arms up and hold himself above the angel to avoid crushing his wings. Wait- had they just- Had he just--!

Matteo watched, in surprise, as Ludwig’s face which had always stayed tight and screwed up, switched so fast he didn’t really get to enjoy all the expressions. From a gentle look of confusion, to shock, to surprise and then he watched the man’s face turn bright, bright red, and he quickly scrambled back and away. A hand slowly coming up and covering his mouth.

Matteo turned bright red, and scrambled to sit up. The two just stared at each other, their eyes charged and exchanging so many emotions at once it was impossible to read. It was silent for about 10 minutes, both dealing with their racing thoughts and emotions that equaled out to about ‘Oh my God/Satan what (the fuck) did I do- did I just kiss him!?

Eventually, Matteo broke their staring contest, scrambling to his feet, dusting himself off and making sure he was at least presentable.

“No one hears about this.” He said very quickly, trying to hide the voice crack. Ludwig just nodded, finding the grass in front of him to be really really fascinating.

The Italian took off quickly, leaving him alone and quickly flying home, ignoring his brothers questions about where he had been, why his wings looked so ruffled and why he was blushing so much- somehow eventually getting to a ‘wait do you have a BOYFRIEND!?’ but that phrase was quickly cut off by Matteo slamming his bedroom door in his brother’s face. He dive bombed into his bed, hugging his pillows and tried and failed to not think about the fact he had got that stoic German demon to light up with so much emotion, and how kind of cute and embarrassed he’d looked when he was blushing.

Ludwig didn’t move from the grass for a bit, the selfish part of his brain was burning that situation, that memory into his head. The only thing that distracted him was at some point his brother had come to find him, talking about some angel something or other he really wasn’t paying attention. He couldn’t stop feeling his lips and toying with the chain around his neck. Well... the rest his afternoon was going to be booked up thinking about this wasn’t he?
