When the fountain was poisoned, Spooner could feel it. She felt the initial pain, the betrayal of John, the slow demise of every connected fungus in the forest, and finally, she felt herself start to die. She was glad that her mother was there, that she got to see her one last time, and she knew that the legends would be fine without her. When she joined, they were in disarray, trying to find Sara with the added distraction of aliens scattered through the timeline, but eventually, they became her family. Well, except Astra. She didn’t really know what Astra was to her yet, but she knew that family didn’t cut it. As she closed her eyes, the poison taking over, she could hear the voice of her mother begging her to stay awake. “It’s okay.” Spooner tried to say “I’ll be alright.” But it was no use, the exhaustion took her, and everything went black.
She woke to a sharp pain in her arm, and to the worried faces of her mother, Ava, Gary, and who she thought was Bishop. There was an emptiness inside of her, a part of her that had been there for so long she had forgotten what life was like without it, and she knew that the fountain was gone. She didn’t have time to mourn, because soon after she woke, an alien pod crashed onto the earth, and sent a signal to what she could only assume was all the others. Once they realized that they had four hours left to live, they started planning a wedding. Ava needed a bit of convincing but once she was on board with the idea, the legends all tried to give them the best wedding they could. Zari was in charge of makeup and clothing, Astra created the decorations, Nate connected to the internet through Gideon and got ordained, and Behrad made the best wedding food he could make given the time limit.
The ceremony was beautiful. Though she hadn’t known Sara and Ava for very long and didn’t know much of their history, she could tell that they were meant for each other. When Bishop interrupted the wedding, everything got very chaotic very quickly. They managed to barricade themselves in her mother’s house and killed the aliens that tried to sneak through the windows. This worked for a while, but it was still very obvious they were outnumbered. The fountain started waking up, making her able to swap the other’s powers, but she still couldn’t see an end to this fight where they survived. Kayla bought them enough time to finish the wedding, and as Sara and Ava were kissing, she thought that at least she was able to witness happiness before the world ended.
Then the fountain decided to save them and expelled all the aliens from the earth. As the light of the fountain sailed around them, dispersing into flecks, and flying through the air, her eyes met Astra’s. As they moved toward each other, gold lighting up Astra’s eyes and swirling around her, she looked ethereal. Their lips met, and everything felt right, as though the universe aligned for this one perfect moment. Everyone was safe, she was alive, and she was kissing the love of her life.
