At the Hop

Summary:

Keith leaves nearly every weekend just to mess around with girls, making sure they are never from his hometown. He stays safe, but he can't seem to make himself commit. His way of thinking will change when he meets Leandra, actually wanting to get to know her. She seems like she has so much life hidden away. Can the gearhead, who is still learning how to be a proper boyfriend, get her out of her shell? Or has her previous relationship hurt her past the point of no return?

--

Well, you can swing it you can groove it
You can really start to move it at the hop
Where the jockey is the smoothest
And the music is the coolest at the hop
All the cats and the chicks gonna get their kicks at the hop

- Danny and the Juniors

Notes:

Okay, this story was literally only spawned because my music was on shuffle and Chantilly Lace popped up. Once again, anything is Klance real estate if you look hard enough. And I have no self control (oops). Also starting this because I'm just having a hard time finishing Food Fight. Thought this might help me get my head back in the game.

Each chapter is a separate song, while still moving along with telling a story. Might take me a bit to update as I work out what songs I'm using.

Chapter 1: The Wanderer

Chapter Text

It was early in the morning when he woke up, the sun not even having risen yet. Turning to look over his shoulder, seeing that the woman in bed with him was still fast asleep, he got out as silently as he could. Slipping on his underwear, nearly falling over as he tried to get his other leg in, he'd never been happier that the bedroom door was open. Picking up his clothes on his way out, he turned to close the door slowly, making sure it didn't click shut and wake her.

This was how it always was. He'd meet a pretty girl, she'd take him home or to a nearby hotel, he'd leave before she wakes up. It's like a dream to these women because it's like he never existed. No name, no note, no number. Only the lingering smell of cigarette smoke and leather. That was how he liked it, making certain he'd never see these women again. He wasn't ready to stay exclusive and wasn't sure if he ever would.

Oh well I'm the type of guy who will never settle down
Where pretty girls are, well you know that I'm around
I kiss 'em and I love 'em 'cause to me they're all the same
I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em, they don't even know my name
They call me the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around

After getting fully dressed, he double checked that he had all his belongings...keys? check...smokes? check...wallet? check...Seeing he only had a few condoms left in his billfold, he made a mental note to pick up another box at his next stop. Pulling on his black boots, he threw his jacket over his shoulder and left the house, being just as skillfully soundless with the front door as he had been when he left the bedroom.

Getting into his car, he took a deep breath before starting the ignition and hauling ass out of the driveway. A '63 Chevy Impala was anything but quiet and he knew the sound would have woken up the woman. He'd never been caught while making his getaway. But the car, affectionately named Red (and had vanity plates to match), certainly made it difficult sometimes.

Oh well there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right
And Janie is the girl, well that I'll be with tonight
And when she asks me which one I love the best
I tear open my shirt and I show her Rosie on my chest
'Cause I'm the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around

He flew threw several towns before making a pit stop. Having heard a beep from his hip while he was driving, he reached down and looked at the number on the small screen of his pager after he parked and turned off the car. Locating a payphone at the end of the parking lot, he planned to call his older brother after he got inside to pee and make his purchase. Shiro was always a worrywart when he'd take off like this, even if it was frequent enough to not be a surprise anymore.

Oh well I roam from town to town
I go through life without a care
And I'm as happy as a clown
With my two fists of iron
but I'm going nowhere

I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place, I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl, yeah
I hop right into that car of mine, I drive around the world
Yeah I'm the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around around around, let's go

The cashier was a cutie too, but he didn't want to start back up right away. He liked the solo drives he had with Red, the sights never getting tiring as he traveled to places he hadn't been to before or hadn't visited in a while. After buying his things, he came back outside and leaned against the back of his car to watch the sunrise.

He was the epitome of handsome. Thick, wind blown, black hair cut into a mullet style, his normally slicked back bangs falling into his smoky, hazel eyes. He was slightly shorter than average, but had well built muscles that were never hidden with how tight he wore his shirts. Tucked behind his ear was an unlit cigarette. A soft smile curled on his lips as he took that first, sweet sip of coffee. Not as good as the way his best friend back home would make it, but it would do for now.

Women were crawling at Keith's feet and not a one had managed to get their hooks in him. He was too careful for that and he intended to keep it that way. Not only was he just not interested, no one had truly caught his eye for anything past a quick romp.

Oh yeah I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place, I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl
I hop right into that car of mine, drive around the world
'Cause I'm a wanderer, yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around around around
'Cause I'm a wanderer, yeah a wanderer
I roam around around around around around
