"Look who it is, our lovely y/n."
Hinami thew you an apron. You caught it, tied it around your hips and clipped the name tag to your shirt.
You quickly stepped in front of the entrance door and turned the "Closed" sign around so that "Open" could now be read. With the roar of the cars behind you, you stepped back into the café and head straight for the back room where Hinami was waiting.
"Good morning, Hinami", you announced. You worked at Moomins for about a year and Hinami was the first person you befriended at that time.
You hugged her shortly.
"How was your weekend?" you asked and grabbed a bottle of water from the staffs fridge.
"There's nothing important to tell", she said with a hint of playfulness which caused you to look at her. She looked over her shoulder for a moment and then back to you. "I broke up with Haru." She held her hands in front of her face.
You took a sharp breath. Hinami and Haru were probably longer together than you could imagine. Even when you started working at Moomi, you saw them both being head over heels for one another. You clamp a curl behind your ear, unable to answer.
"I'm sorry", you returned and dropped your hands energetically as you discovered brown hair that shone in late summer, and the broad grin of your colleague who was hardly older than you.
"Heard you're going solo?"
Hinami punished the remark with one of her evil looks when she saw Kai joining them.
"Don't be so loud. The café doesn't have to know everything!"
"I'm sorry Hinami-chan" Kai raised his hands in surrender. Hinami glared at Kai on more time. She hated it when someone called her Hinami-chan, especially comming from Kai who, next to her, teases everyone here.
Then a cheerful hug began between them and you stepped to the counter knowing, that they would now stop. You used the short moment, now that your back was turned towards them, to write your mother a message. You don't even notice that the café door has opened while you continued typing on your display.
"Hey Hinami, could you take this order real fast?" you asked her, without turning your gaze from your phone. You were about to send your mother her ID and her password since she would always forget it but Hinami made no reply. You turned to look at her and noticed her starring across the café onto a certain spot.
You followed her gaze and noticed a tall man, sitting in the far back at one of the tables. When you took a step to the side to get an even better look at him, Hinami quickly grabbed your elbow and forced you behind the corner to avoid his gaze. She stared at you with wide eyes and nervously tapped her finger on the counter.
"Hinami, are you okay?" You asked concerned and lowered your head to look at her.
"He's here again" she whispered and pointed with her thumb to the direction.
"And?" you asked lifting one of your eyebrows.
"He came here on Saturday and asked for you in particular" she began and lowered her voice so only you could hear her.
"I told him that you only work during the week" she explained, causing you to shook your head in confusion. There was nothing wrong with a customer asking for a particular employee but by the way Hinami was looking you began to worry yourself.
Kai came from behind the counter. He cocked his head with an innocent expression. "One of you has to go over there. The boss will call me right away and I have to take care of it" he explained. You shrugged your shoulders and just wanted to send Hinami forward, but she slipped past you and Kai with an apologetic look and walked towards the toilet.
Annoyed, you blew out the air and made a mental note to speak to Hinami about it later. When you tried to push past Kai, he rested his hand on your arm. Only now did you notice that Kai had tattooed his hand. It was a kio carp. "Have you made up your mind?" he wanted to know.
"I haven't thought about it yet."
"I can wait" he said bitterly. You grabbed his hand and pushed it away. Kai had a huge crush on you, everyone who worked here knew that. You had noticed his furtive glances, how he ,even though his shift ends way sooner then yours, was always waiting at the back door and every now and then brought you a flower saying that you are his favorite.
You rolled your eyes, and turned away from him.
"You don't have to wait, Kai." You reached for your notebook in which you would record the orders and turned to look up at him. Kai was a lanky, tall man with long brown hair which he kept in a man bun. Some people consider him attractive and beautiful and eventhough he is all of that, you never saw him as more than a friend.
You couldn't see his eyes, because he'd turned his head to look into space. He rooled up his sleeved to reveal more tattoos. "I mean it well, Kai. I have to figure..."
The ringing of the bell indicated that more customers had entered the café. It was a group of children and two adult companions who were heading towards a large table by the window. "I'll take them, take care of our other guest who had to wait longer than necessary." He rushed towards them leaving you behind.
You took a deep breath and approached the table where the man was still waiting. Now you could see him better. He was a muscular man with mid-length straigh black hair.
"Good Morning, what can I do for you?" you asked with the loveliest voice and displaced the thought from before.
The man placed his phone back into his pocket und looked at you emotionless. He was tall and broad shouldered and didn't have to lift his head to look at you.
"Coffee, black" he said in a deep voice. Your grip around the pen tightened as you tried to write down the order while you felt his gaze on yourself.
"Is there anything else you would like to order, Sir?" you asked and dared to look him into his green eyes. The sharp scar over the right side of his mouth streched when he grinned.
"That's all" he mused with his voice causing your cheeks to stain red. You turned and rushed over to the kitchen and switched on the coffee-machine. While the cup was filled with the black coffee you leaned towards the sinkt to hold your hands under the cold water to cool yourself off. There was something about this man that magically attracted you.
The machine hissed and beeped, indicating that the coffee was ready. You placed a wrapped biscuit on a plate with the cup of coffee. Then you leaned against the door and pushed it open.
He was still waiting at the table you left him a few minutes earlier but now he was starring outside the window. You quietly made you way up to him to place the coffee onto the table. You intended to disappear before he noticed you, but then you remembered the rules of the café which included, among other things, that you have to behave respectfully towards the customers, so you breathed out quietly.
"I hope you enjoy your coffee. Feel free to call for me or any other employee" you said. You were about to turn when you heard him answer slowly.
"Thank you, y/n."
Your skin got hot and tingly as the words left his lips and rolled like thick honey over his tongue. You slowly turned to look at him.
"Excuse me, Sir?" you asked nervously.
"I said, thank you, y/n" he repeated and gestured to your name tag. You laughed nervously and winked something off. For a moment you thought he knew your name from wherever he knew it. But given the fact that your name was displayed for everyone to see, you chuckeled and turned away.
With closed eyes you leaned against the cold walls of the counter and counted to three. You couldn't explain why, but he made you very nervous. Your legs were shaking without control.
You peeked over the counter and noticed that he was no longer there, but his coffee was still brewing in the cup. In addition, you recognized what could only be money and a Hinami who smiled mischievously as she walked towards you with her hands behind her back.
You came towards her and noticed that Kai was staring over at you. Hinami pulled something from behind her back - a piece of paper.
"I knew it" she bursted in excitment as she gave you the paper. "Seems like you attracted someone." Her eyebrows moved up and down.
"Hinami!" you said playfully and pushed her softly.
You froze as you looked at the note and read the name. You didn't know why, but you could swear that you've read that particular name somewhere before. Toji Fushiguro.
You repeated his name without saying it out loud.
A name that sounded like a distant memory.
Hinami pushed forward to you and too took a good look at his name.
"You ever heared of him" you asked as you looked down to her. Hinami shook her head and shrugged her shoulders.
"Hey, what's going on?" Kai walked towards the two of you with a concerning look on his face. You were quick to stuff the note into your pocket and smiled.
"Nothing" you both said synchronously and laughed. Kai leaned forward to look deep into your eyes, as if he could read the truth in them, but Hinami pushed him away from you and croaked in a loud voice: "Kai, you're a fucking creep!"
Protectively, she stood in front of you and blocked Kai's way. She looked at you from the corner of the eye and indicated to you to lean forward.
"Kai dosen't have to know everything" she whispered into your ear and you could only agree.
