Work Text:

“Come on Pen, just ask her out. She obviously likes you too.” Luke said to Penelope, earning a shush from her. Penelope looked around, making sure the other agent wasn’t in the office yet.

“Don’t be so paranoid, she hasn’t gotten here yet.” Luke said, rolling his eyes.

“Do you know who you’re talking to?” Penelope said incredulously. “Besides, how in the world would she like me?” Luke just gave Penelope a silent look of shock as Tara got off the elevator and headed their way.

“Hey Tara,” Luke said, “I’ve got a question for you.” Penelope looked at Luke wide eyed, but he ignored it.

“Wow, this early? I hope you know I play for the other team,” she teased. Luke rolled his eyes at her and continued speaking. “Oh trust me, I know. But my question is what’s your ideal date?” Tara paused, thinking for a moment.

“Hm, interesting question, Luke Alvez. I’d have to say dinner and a car show,” she grinned. “I’m very into vintage cars.” She continued to the meeting room, winking at Luke and nudging his shoulder as she walked past.

Luke silently gestured his hands out as if to say there you go. Penelope rolled her eyes dramatically as she headed to her office. She’d thank him later. She always did.

The team returned from their case the next afternoon, and Penelope caught Tara before she left. “Hey, Tara. I wanted to ask you something. If we don’t get called in, do you wanna maybe... hang out? There’s a car show in town and I got two tickets. But it’s totally okay if you don’t want to, I just thought I’d ask, y’know?” Tara placed her hand on her shoulder to stop her rambling, and Penelope looked at her hand then back at Tara.

“I’d love to, but how in the world did you get tickets? They were sold out last I checked.” Penelope smiled shyly, a first for her, “I may have worked a little magic.” Tara returned the smile, “Well in that case, how could I say no? As soon as I finish this paperwork, then I’ll head to your office and we can go. Sound good?” Penelope nodded, a dopey smile plastered on her face as the other agent walked away.

Penelope walked into her office and found Luke there waiting for her. “So? Did you ask her?” Penelope turned and closed her office door slowly before bouncing on her heels with excitement. “Yes and she said yes! I’m praying to the gods of the FBI or the gods of crime or whoever that we don’t have a case tonight.”

Penelope heard a light knock on her office door and she waved at Luke to tell him to be quiet as she opened the door. “Hey Tara, should we go now?” Tara smiled at Penelope’s enthusiasm. “Yep, let’s go before they call us back.” The pair nodded in agreement as Tara looped her arm around Penelope’s and they made their way to Tara’s truck.

As they walked around the car show, Tara pointed out every car she found interesting, letting Penelope know exactly what she thought of each car’s specs and body. Penelope, truth be told, had zero clue what Tara was talking about. But she liked listening to her talk and hearing the passion in her voice.

As they made their way to Tara’s truck once more, Tara began to speak. “So, Penelope, do you like veggie burgers? Cause I know this place that has some amazing options. Penelope beamed, “Yes of course I do! Are you a vegetarian as well?”

Tara felt her face grow hot. “Well, no. But I know you are, so I figured I’d try some vegetarian options every once in a while.” Penelope grinned. “And?”

Tara tilted her head back and forth, “I can see the appeal.” Penelope nudged her shoulder, “Tara Lewis, I had no idea you were such a huge fan of me,” she teased. “How could I not be?”

As they sat in Tara’s truck, she was about to put it in reverse when Penelope placed her hand over Tara’s, leaning in and kissing her on the cheek. She pulled away, looking for a reaction from Tara, but she didn’t have enough time to. Suddenly Tara’s hand was on her cheek and they were kissing and oh my god she’s kissing me.

They pulled apart, and Tara said, “So… burgers?” Penelope nodded, a dopey smile on her face once again. She’d really have to thank Luke later.
