Chapter Text
Izuku Midoriya.
It’s the only thing he can remember.
He lets that sink in.
In the wind, his hair blows. The strands floating around his face and almost hitting his eyes. Even while that happens he can’t help but watch the scene before him. He doesn’t even blink.
Blood, destruction, and chaos.
The screams of people ringing out through his ears, almost like hearing a last battle cry.
He thinks it probably is.
He tries to think back to how he got there. He has nothing.
Just a black hole of emptiness and the name (which he is guessing is), Izuku Midoriya.
He has questions for this Izuku Midoriya, like how he got here, who he is and why does he remember just that. Like how—
His thought gets cut off. His eyes dart at the figure which is now pulling him, he speaks. “HEY!” The thing that is pulling him is another human. This person doesn’t tell him anything and just pulls him along. They don’t say anything.
The person is tall (or at least taller than him) with yellowish blondish hair. They have a sharp jawline and extremely dilated pupils. He watches as the person fixates on everything they can see, on every corner and turn.
Also while he gets pulled, he notices two other kids. The upset and crying kids say nothing as they get pulled. He wonders what is happening.
More and more people made it into his vision, yelling and screaming and crying. All like they’d seen death. He felt bad even though he didn’t know why they were like this.
Changing paths, the man (which he is assuming is) drags them down a small set of staircases, leading them towards something. It’s hard to make out what it is though, too many people around it.
People shout stuff and then point towards the ‘thing’ the man is dragging them too.
He notices that the man and the ‘special’ people are wearing the same clothes. Is it a uniform? He thinks so.
The man leads them to a boat, telling two ‘special’ people something.
It’s so frustrating because he can’t understand what he’s saying. It’s like he’s speaking in a different language! Shouldn’t he know the language if he just turned up here? Shouldn’t he remember stuff? Why can’t he remember?!
The man leads them towards the boat’s entrance where more ‘special’ people are waiting. They ask the man stuff while pushing them on.
He notices when the man stares at him, gaping.
He wonders if he’s done anything wrong, but another ‘special’ person leads him onto the boat, pushing him further in with the other two kids. They both look scared and upset.
When walking to them, they give him nothing but a second glance, staring at him strangely. The boy with dark brown hair stares at him, tilting in his head slightly. The girl beside him gives him a calculated and careful look, like dissecting him under a microscope. If he’s going to be honest, he feels threatened.
He still moves back against the wall besides the boy, who he doesn’t have a name for. The same story being with the girl. He hopes somebody will come out and tell him this is a joke.
To his right the boy starts to crinkle up his nose, narrow his eyes and lets tears fall. The girl looks concerned.
As another person gets into the boat near them, he has to push up against the boy’s shoulders to make room. The boy’s shoulders shake up and down as he cries.
Then, more people yelled out, drawing his and the other two kid’s attentions. Two of the ‘special’ people lift up a wooden board which they got across to the boat on. The rest of the people who aren’t on the boat look soul struck, scared, and horrified. They yell some more, most likely disagreeing. The ‘special’ people keep them back.
A rumble sound almost scares the living daylights out of him, the boat starting to move. He can hear the water swaying back and forth, crashing into the boat making splash sounds. As they take off, two men jump from the port to the boat, one falling in while the other holds on for dear life.
He still has no clue why everyone is like this.
Without warning, two loud explosions go off, one after another, which most likely are cannons. He glances over at the direction it came from.
More and more go off. Grey smoke filling the sky like rivers.
He wonders what is going on, eyes searching for every last detail his surroundings could show. Nothing hints at being wrong. All except the reactions from the people.
Something that also hits him is the smells the people let off. They smell like dirt, grass, mud, sweat, blood, tears, grease, basically everything he could think of. Some smelt decent, but most smell really bad. The two kids beside him smell mostly like blood and dirt.
Before he can conjure up ideas on why, the ground starts to rumble.
One rumble, two rumbles, three rumbles.
It’s as if the thing is walking. Then it gets quicker, like his pounding heart. His anxiety and worry spikes. The thing stops moving, but he knows something big is going to happen. It never just stops so suddenly.
Then he hears something move.
Out of instinct, his eyes watch the other passengers faces. Watching as they all turn into horror and fear. They look out at the wall. Curiosity overtakes him as he glances at it.
The ground rumbles again, his nerves hitting high.
He narrows his eyes at the wall, the steps of the thing becoming louder.
The thing, now he thinks about it, sounds like a human running, only ten times as loud.
It scares him.
People mutter to themselves around him, some quietly whispering with tears. He can’t make out a word but he knows something bad is about to happen. He tries to brace himself, tries to be brave. But he never excepted this.
In an instant, the wall exploded. Crumbling down with a giant, human-like creature standing before it.
That’s the moment terror seeped into his eyes. That’s the moment he would never want to relive again. He understood what was so scary. The monster was scary.
The giant human-like thing was golden, with red markings around it’s body. Its eyes were as blinding as the sun, him being able to make out the fine yellow within them. The thing skidded across the ground as it landed. It looked up with burning pride. The kind of pride you would see from a killer that’s just done its job right.
It posed, one knee on the ground and one knee bent on. The thing’s arm was up high above his head, fist almost in a ball. Smoke wrapped around the monster before he could see anymore, but that gaze was unforgettable.
Then, that’s when he realised the whole wall’s entrance was exploded through. The gasps around him made a lot more sense now.
As the monster thing was standing up, his vision, like everyone else’s on the boat, was cut off by a windmill. Slowly but surely the boat drifted through the water, leading them further into the distance.
Panicked mutters around him didn’t go unnoticed, nor did the crying. He felt like crying himself, if he was being honest.
The boy started crying again, tears welding up in his eyes, them with a haunted look. The girl on the other hand was silent, choosing not to cry and glanced at the boy worriedly. They locked eyes for a second, him choosing to retreat. It was rude to stare.
Without laying eyes on the boy, he detected the boy moved. He tilted his head off to the left, choosing to look at something else to get his mind off of things.
He watched as the beautiful colours of the sky faded with every passing minute, telling him that it's going to be dark soon, his anxiety rising. He wondered if that monster was going to get them while they slept.
He felt something move, redirecting his attention onto that, seeing that it was the boy again. Before he could glance back to the sunset, the boy stomped up to the front of the boat near the ledge, moving passed another boy who was speaking to him. The girl with short black hair said something and went to follow him.
Maybe out of anger, the boy pushed the other boy’s arm away, making his way to the ledge. The boy put both his hands on the wooden railing and cried, saying something unclear to him. His voice seemed angry though.
He thinks it’s his way of grieving, somehow.
The other boy says something short, but then again, he can’t understand. He thinks he pronounced it like, “E-ren,” though he has no idea what that means.
Over an hour later, night fell. The three kids, with a grandfather (he thinks) sleeps tightly together. Sometimes one would wake up, but they would try to fall sleep again. They slept close enough near him so he could tell when they were awake.
He, however, didn’t sleep at all.
He sat cold, watching as the boat got further from the walls, following the river into a stream with tall, dark trees surrounding it. The soft splashes and the occasional howls of wolves calmed him. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, nor did it sound like that monster thing.
It almost made him feel safe.
Almost.
Dread in his stomach curled, making him want to puke. He dragged both his knees up to his chest, huddling them close as he tried to keep his stomach contents in. The boat moving did not help.
Burying his head deeper into his knees, he remembered everything he saw at the port, small teardrops sliding down his cheeks. He sobbed, trying to keep it as silent as he could, to not wake anyone up. Sadly, it didn’t work.
A noise spooked him. “W-who are you?” He asked, looking at the new face that glowed in the moonlight.
The person didn’t reply, tilting their head to the right, looking confused.
The boy’s brown hair almost looked as dark as the trees now he saw him up close. The boy stared at him, opening his mouth and closing it again. It looked like he wanted to speak but didn’t know what to say.
He looked as confused as he was.
He made a note of that.
The boy spoke, but nothing of it made sense. He tilted his head to show his confusion. Then, the word from before popped back into his head. Thinking that it was of some importance, he said it. “E— E-ren?”
That was what made the boy light up.
“Eren!” He shockingly smiled, saying something after which made no sense again.
He furrowed his eyebrows together, the boy stopping. The boy bit his lip and stared intensely at him, the blue in his eyes glowing. They were like blue diamonds.
The boy pointed to himself, using his index finger. “Eren.”
He decided to go along with it, pointing at the boy. “You’re Eren.” Slowly nodding his head up and down the boy was fixated on him. Eren, finally he got a name to his face, grabbed his hand, bending it forward towards him. He looked to see what was wrong with it.
His pale skin with millions of freckles was bleeding.
He could see the problem. The crimson blood was both sticky and dry, small flakes in some areas falling off. He wondered how and when it happened. Maybe he was that out of it.
Eren let his hand go, and held his own t-shirt at the brim, tightening his hand until it had enough pressure to rip the shirt. He tore the shirt slowly, making sure it still had enough fabric to keep himself warm. The remaining fabric hanged idly by his side.
With enough force he ripped the fabric off the shirt, leaving a gap from where it just was. He was concerned at how considerate he was being. “Er—“ before he could finish, Eren put a finger to his mouth, hushing him.
As quickly as it got there, it disappeared.
Eren took his hand with his own, and picked up the fabric with his other hand. He wrapped the fabric around his wrist twice, then dragged it diagonally across the back of his bloodied hand.
The focused boy lifted his fingers. Curled the makeshift bandage under his pinky finger, and then back towards his index. Before twirling it back up again. He left all his fingertips exposed as he put the fabric over his knuckles.
He wonders were he learnt this from.
In no time, Eren finished patching him up and his hand felt as good as new. He grazed his fingertips slowly over the cloth, and it soaked up blood. It felt pretty secure as well.
They didn’t say much after that, taking in the silence the night could hold. It made him feel so much better that he fell asleep. He didn’t know if Eren went to sleep or not.
———
Soft arguing was the first thing he could hear when he woke up. That and the blinding sunlight, caused him a massive headache. He squinted as he focused on the kids before him.
It was Eren, the other boy, and the other girl. He glanced at the boy’s features first. He had dandelion blond hair, which was cut up to his shoulders unevenly. The hair’s split ends tells him that either it was cut not with scissors, or not recently.
Another feature on the boy was his baby blue irises. They glowed in the light like Eren’s did last night. He wonders if all of these people’s eyes could do that.
The girl had blue eyes too, he thinks. But it’s a lot harder to tell since she isn’t facing the sunlight like the boy is. Her eyes are either grey or blue, or maybe a mixture of both of them. He’s going to leave that thought there.
Her hair is like the other boy’s, up to the shoulders and stringy, but hers is black. She wears a jam-coloured scarf that’s around her neck, and her clothes are like the other two’s. Plain and simple with pastel colours.
He glances down at what he’s wearing.
Like them, he wears something simple. His shirt and pants are the same coffee brown, while his jacket is black like the girl’s hair. The hand that was bloodied is now wrapped in a white bandage, in the same manner like the fabric from Eren’s shirt. He wonders if Eren wrapped his hand again.
A finger click brings his attention back to them.
Eren kneels in front of him, eye to eye. He points to himself first. “Eren.” He then points towards the girl to his right. “Mikasa.”
“Mi-kasa?” He repeats, trying to grasp the pronunciation.
Eren nods at him happily. Whatever he was planning it seemed to work, and he was happy he got their names.
Out of reflex he looked at the other boy. Eren then pointed to him, “Armin.”
The boy Armin seemed quite joyous when he was called. He smiled brightly like mutely introducing himself. He got the gist and held out his hand, him shaking it in return. He liked them, they seemed nice so far.
Actually, he was kind of scared of Mikasa, but that’s besides the point.
He decided to say something to greet them.
“Hi. Umm, I’m—“ he stopped mid sentence, remembering that he didn’t know his name. He started again, a little frustrated this time. “Hello, it’s nice to meet you Mikasa, Ar-min.” His voice cracked at the end. He faced Eren. “Thank you so much for helping me last—“
Someone interrupted him. It was Mikasa. She gave him a low glare while she talking directly to Eren and Armin. He felt scared in that moment, hands getting clammy.
All he could do was sit and watch as she argued about something with Eren, who was now talking back. Thank the lords Armin interjected, stopping the argument from getting bigger between them. Mikasa stared daggers at him.
Eren raised his eyebrows, eyes intensifying when he saw his face. They grew concerned. Armin told something to Eren who was only looking at him. He felt like he was on stage with a million people watching. That feeling made shivers go through him.
When he was about to open his mouth to apologise, he stopped. Jaw slumped shut. He didn’t want Eren to get shouted at by Mikasa. He knitted his eyebrows together, let his lips slim, and fiddled with his fingers.
They all noticed. Mikasa glared at him. Eren tilted his head, cheeks flowing with colour, and Armin glanced at him gloomily.
“Eren—“ Mikasa said something he couldn’t understand. She continued, “— Armin — Eren!” His attention was back on Eren after Armin.
Eren shook his head and closed his eyes, scrunching up his nose in the process. “Armin —“ he drowned out the conversation. So much for not arguing.
Little bickers and retorts were spat at each other while he sat and waited. He thinks at some point one of them left, but he can’t remember. With the headache and fatigue, he couldn’t concentrate on anything.
Something cold was placed on his head and drizzled down his cheek. On his jaw, some of the wetness slipped down his collarbone, and made him feel refreshed. It felt soft and soothing. It was also quiet.
Did Eren and Mikasa stop fighting?
He thinks so. Why were they fighting in the first place, was it about him? Mikasa was awfully frustrated. Maybe she was having a bad day. From what he can see Eren, Mikasa and Armin are all good friends. Connected together in ways others struggle too. He hopes he didn’t ruin their friendship.
Soft tapping to the head woke him up.
“Pssst.”
Eren’s big eyes stared down at him, peering at his. Wisps of his hair flowed in the wind. “Huh?”
He sat up and checked his surroundings. They weren’t on the boat anymore. Eren sat on his knees, looking around too, probably seeing what he was looking at. Without talking, he slowly got to his feet and stood steadily. He held out a hand to him, and he took it. Eren showed him where they were.
The boat was on the river’s bed, people getting off the boat. Eren led him towards the exit. Trees where in every direction he looked, making him dizzy. To not vomit, he tried look at the exit where Eren was leading him. It almost didn’t work.
At the exit, he could see Mikasa and Armin, along with (Armin’s?) grandfather. They seemed to be talking.
He tightened his grip on Eren’s hand when he saw their faces. Armin’s grandfather clenched his hand by his sides, the look of sorrow on his mouth. Armin was the same. Mikasa on the other hand bite her lip softly, staring at the wet soil. The mood was gloomy, and he was about to make it ten times worse with Mikasa’s temper.
Hiding behind Eren, they moved closer, the ‘special’ people standing at the boat’s port, staring at them. They shouted something at Eren, which caused Eren to shout back at them. It made him flinch at the noise’s level.
They moved off the boat and went to the three. Armin’s grandfather was the first to acknowledge them. “Eren—“ he blabbed off, him not able to understand a single thing. This was getting old.
Somehow, after Eren talked to the man, all three of them nodded understandably. Even Mikasa! He really wanted to know what they were talking about.
“Mikasa ____, Armin ____, Eren ___, ____” he snapped his head towards the sound, realising a ‘special’ person was talking to them. He stayed quiet as they all listen to them. Every now and then they would bob their heads at the man, even pipping up to talk. Apparently even a pout made it to his face because Eren laughed mutely.
The ‘special’ person brought them to carriage where he guessed they’d have to get on, which they did. It was a nice trip, aside from Mikasa glaring at him twenty-four seven, but it was nice. Johnson, Armin’s grandfather (he figured that out! Yay!) actually tried to speak to him. Mikasa kind of looked thrilled when it didn’t work. His concerns where growing about her.
For the rest of the trip, they slept.
Boring but it happened. He was so confused though. Like, didn’t he just sleep for five hours?
———
It rains heavily as they walk though the woods. All five of them wear the same clothes they were wearing on the boat, but it doesn’t warm them one bit. The ‘scouts’ as Eren said, who were the ‘special’ people he named, gave them green cloaks which had hoods to them. Both Eren and Armin giggled at the colour, Johnson chuckling. Mikasa gave him a stoic stare but didn’t give him much of a reaction after that. He felt offended that just because the cloak was green like his hair, he didn’t needed to be made fun of.
Whatever. Right now they have more uglier things to worry about. The rain splashed down on them, soaking them through the hoods, not at all covering them. It made him shiver, balancing on top of the soles of his feet, trying not to get stabbed by opened rocks.
His right hand’s bandage was soaked as well, reopening the cuts and making him bleed out. Eren, when he saw it, gave him a look which said, ‘I’ll re-bandage it later’.
They moved down the road with the other freezing people, wearing the same cloaks. Most looked battered and bruised up as he passed them. Eren, Mikasa, Armin and Johnson all able to walk up to his pace without fail. He’s sure that they've had enough sleep to do this for a while. So when someone gets exhausted, they’ll slow down.
Eren agrees with him that the best course of action is to get there as quick as they can, getting away from the rain, getting away from the rocks and getting away from all the dead-standing people. Mikasa reluctantly agreed, but it was after Armin and Johnson did.
He realised that he and Mikasa finally agreed on something, and he was proud. They were making process!
The scouts were walking with the crowd around them, helping with the sick and young. They helped carry them towards their destination, slowly moving with the families. Somewhere in the crowd he could hear sobs, but it echoed, unable to detect the person. He empathised, knowing that feeling of sorrow, and fear, and loss. It was like a distant memory.
Soon enough, after slowing down towards the end (Eren and Johnson getting tired), they made it to a village of empty houses. Being one of the first people to get there.
People who lived there, along with scouts, helped them to a house on the edge of the town, near the back. Most likely saving the houses at the front for the people who were too tired to move. At least they got some privacy in this mess.
A lovely lady, who he didn’t know the name of, brought them to the warm shelter, a bright blazing fire rippling inside. Immediately, all for children made their way towards it. Placing their hands above the fire, turning their backs towards the fire and laying down on the wood near it. Johnson bowed to the women, which he guessed was him thanking her, and moved to fire as well.
They laid there alone until another family came, quiet and cold. They made room for the family by the fire.
More and more people entered the building, all the ones who did looking stern and calm. They huddled around the fire, hugging each other, leaning up against each other, sitting on each other, and doing whatever they could to get heat.
Whenever a new person moved into the room, they would let them sit near the fire and move back as more came in. They did that so they could get warm quicker, less likely to get sick.
He and Mikasa sadly had to sit next to each other, Mikasa scowling at him. She didn’t even try to hide her annoyance. They sat in awkward silence.
Armin, wonderful Armin, chattered to all of them whispering. Mikasa focused on that, or mostly Eren. He wondered if she was mad at him because of Eren. Was she jealous? Ooh, does she have a crush on him?
If that’s the case, he’ll stay away from Eren for a while. He doesn’t want Mikasa to be mad at him over that.
The room echoed as scouts bursted through the door. Rain showed over them, drenching the floors as they pounded towards the interior. People watched in silence as the men took off their hoods, frizzing up their hair. Mikasa narrowed her eyes beside him, but didn’t make any other comments.
Something which he reminded him of owls, both Eren and Armin tilted their heads, eyes peering at them.
Johnson gazed up and then looked back down, reading a page of a book. He read it like it was the most important thing he’s ever seen, scouts be dammed.
One by one they stepped towards different people, splitting up. The three men held up clipboards, most likely asking questions to those around him, people replying differently. Mikasa fiddled with her fingers.
This was what made him nervous. First of all, what question where they asking. If it was anything to do with his past, he was doomed. If anything was about his personal life, like his parents, siblings, family, pets, he could do nothing but shrug. This was bad.
From the insides of his jacket, he clenched his hands.
What does he remember? Oh, yeah. Izuku Midoriya, that’s all. Who on this godforsaken planet, just gave him the name (which he thinks is a name), and didn’t tell him anything else? Just. Izuku. Midoriya. That’s all.
A scout walks up to Mikasa. The dark bags under his eyes being the first things he sees on the man, making it look like he’s hasn’t slept in ten days. He can’t relate, but it does look like a terrible experience. The man is sluggish, saying random nonsense too Mikasa. She answers, “Mikasa” being the only words he can understand in her sentence.
The man was asking about her name and he was next. If he wasn’t panicking before, he is now, desperately trying not to panic.
His muscles tensed and his throat felt like it was closing in on him. His breathing got quicker, and in response he tried to get air into his lungs. He breathed heavier and more distraught. It felt like choking. Dizziness overlapped his eyes, the room turning and twirling, the light of the fire joining in.
It was a dance concert only for his eyes to see. He hated this concert because it only meant one thing. Disaster.
A firm hand grabbed onto his arm, the person holding him down as the room slowed. He felt more relaxed, almost like being pulled down from space. It was considerate, whoever did it.
The hand released off his arm and pulled back. With teary eyes he glanced towards the direction. He made out Eren’s figure through the blurriness, panting as he got closer. Whatever Eren was saying he couldn’t bother decipher it, just letting his presence calm him down. They sat in silence for a while.
His head ran with questions, wondering how he got there, what happened to Mikasa, was he being loud, what happened to the scout, what was going to happen now, did Eren think differently of him, did every hear him—
But his thoughts were stopped by Eren placing his hand on his shoulder. He tilted his head forward, Eren softly nodding, taking that as a thanks. He was grateful.
Time passed quick, he noticed. The same scout walking back over, wearing the same expression as before.
He came up to them.
“Wie—“ he was already lost in the translation, staring up to the man like he’s not human. In a last resort to try, he glanced at Eren raising a brow, hoping he would get it.
Quietly, Eren pointed to himself. “Eren.” He stated. Eren then pointed his finger towards him. “Eren?”
Then he finally understood. Great… so that’s what the man was trying to say. He should’ve used the same wording from when he talked to Mikasa! He probably would’ve guessed from that!
Whatever. He has bigger problems to worry about.
Names, names… what names? None come back to mind other than Izuku Midoriya! He doesn’t know a Izuku Midoriya!
The scout asks again. “Wie hei-” blah, blah. He can’t understand! A second passes before he responses, blurting it out of panic. “Izuku Midoriya.”
No, no, no, why did he say that?! Why was it like a reflex!? This shouldn’t be happening, no!
Eren answers all the other questions for him, the scout going along with it, not bothering to care. He thinks he’s grateful for that but he doesn’t know, he’s too busy panicking over a stupid reflex.
Johnson laughed while Armin giggled. To them the situation probably seemed funny, though no outsiders could tell what they’re laughing at. For that, he was thankful. Mikasa watched idly besides them, not bothering to take part. She wasn’t mad though. More like quietly amused.
They relaxed, listening to all the answers Eren gives the man. At some they laugh.
He really wants to know the information given, but no, he still has no understanding of the language. He will find out someday though, and if Eren said something embarrassing, he will pay.
On the bright side at least he has a name now.
Whoever Izuku Midoriya truely is has to learn to share.
———
Normally, he isn’t this much of a light sleeper but with all the sleep he’s had today, it probably expected. Energised after one hour of sleep, he got bored.
Looking around the room for something to entertain himself with, lightning crackled and scared the ever-living daylights out of him. He covered his mouth with his hand to stop his yelp from waking everyone up. To end his paranoia, he stood up and walked silently around the room, checking to make sure he didn’t wake anyone.
The wooden floor boards creaked every now and then, but other than that, most noise was diminished by the thunder. He found that impressive, even though it’s just nature.
He laid back down underneath the cloth, moving next to Armin on the outside. He, Mikasa, Eren and Armin were sharing a blanket the scouts offered, people suggesting it since they were kids. Johnson thanked them profusely.
Laying on his back, he stared up at the roof. His eyes glistening over where the wooden boards connected with one another. It entertained him for a while but he became bored shortly after.
Izuku tried to go back to sleep.
It failed.
Lightning spiked around the glass window, catching his attention. The vibrant yellow exploded like it was a volcano’s raft. He got up again, slipping pass sleeping bodies and went towards the window.
He got a better look as another one went off.
In the distance the wind shuffled, blowing around rapidly. His eyes made their way towards the trees, those looking more concerning as they blew faster and stronger. One snapped over.
A man trudged through the mud.
This eyes went to that, trying to catch every visible detail of the man he could (though the moon wasn’t out). The man was tall, his hair blending in with the darkness. Izuku guessed that it was black. Another thing was that the man wore the same cloak the scouts did. Another guess was that he was a scout, doing something in the woods like hunting or—
Another body cut off his sentence. It hanged there in the man’s hand, almost being dragged across the ground but missed.
The man which now he hoped wasn’t a scout, came up to their cabin with the body.
It was agonising as he watched. He didn’t know what to do. Scream? That’ll wake people up, and what would happen if he woke them up for nothing. He can’t talk, he can’t explain. He’ll look like an idiot. They might kill him.
Cry? Panic? That will do absolutely nothing in his favour.
Izuku bit his lip, narrowing his eyes down on the man. As he came closer he tried to be brave, tried to make up his mind on what to do. Nothing helped, he felt useless and scared.
The man opened the back door slightly, his face peering into the room, the light of the remaining embers shining onto his face. He looked in horror.
Greenish blue eyes met green ones, staring back and forth at each other. They both felt fear as the door widened by the wind.
The body Izuku saw came into view.
It was Eren.
He was sleeping soundly, the man passing Eren to him. Izuku felt tears wielding in his eyes.
Eren felt cold, freezing when he hugged him. He also felt really light, like holding a newborn baby. Izuku held him close, taking a step back from the man, keeping his eyes on him.
And what surprised him next was two things.
The man started crying, and he got onto his knees and bowed.
