Work Text:
It happened in the span of two words.
“Stupid Fags.” Mineta Minoru said from behind Izumi Midoriya.
Suddenly, her eyes turned a cold blue, and she stood up. Aizawa looked at her, annoyed. “What is it, problem child?”
“Sorry to interrupt, sir, but if I said I wanted to break a fellow student’s legs so badly they won’t be able to fix em’.” She turns and glares at Mineta, before smiling sweetly at Aizawa. “Would you let me go deal with that?” She opens her eyes, and they glow slightly, causing a chill to envelope the room.
“… Yeah, go ahead, but we’ll need to talk about this after class.” Aizawa nods, in his usual deadpan tone.
“Thank you.” She bows and grabs her backpack before leaving. “This might take a while, so I figured I’d take this with me just in case.” She says, leaving the classroom. Ochako breathes out and notices her breath shows as a cloud.
Aizawa still hadn’t started talking, so Ochako raises a hand. “Uhm… Sir? I think Izumi might’ve… activated another quirk…” She says, taking a deep breath and blowing out to show how cold the air is. She still feels quite warm, but as she moves her hand around, the cold air bites at her.
Aizawa huffs through his nose. “Right, Asui and Uraraka, go get Midoriya and lead her to a training room in case she isn’t already planning on going there.” Tsuyu nods sluggishly and gets up with Ochako. “Someone get Mineta to the Nurse’s Office. He got hit with frostbite it looks like.” Is all Aizawa says before Ochako and Tsuyu are out of earshot.
“You okay Tsu?” Ochako asks.
Tsu nods with tired eyes. “Wonder what caused that in Izu… She’s normally so nice.”
“It was definitely something that Mineta said. But whatever, we need to catch up with Izumi.” She pulls out her phone.
=Izu <3=
Ocha: Where ya at? Me an’ Tsu were sent after ya.
Izu: Oh, I’ll wait for you at the bottom floor. Second staircase or elevator.
Ocha: No, no need to wait up, head to gym Alpha and we’ll meet ya there.
Izu: Got it. o7
===
Ochako puts her phone away with a small smile. “Alright, we’ll go to Gym Alpha and meet up with her there if we don’t meet her on the way.”
—
At Gym Alpha, Ochako and Tsu walk in to hear the booming sound of a heavy punching bag getting hit. They both see green sparks rising from the direction of the noise, so they both start heading there.
Once they get there, they see Izumi, her shirt tossed to the side as her still ice-cold eyes glare down the punching bag. She blurs for a split second and a boom resounds as her elbow smacks into it. The punching bag doesn’t budge an inch, but neither does Izumi.
Ochako does the dumb thing and wolf-whistles. Izumi’s glare shifts to her for a second before immediately softening.
Ochako feels a small amount of cold build up under her skin, but nothing too extreme.
Izumi smiles at them, it’s not the faked sweetness of the one she gave Aizawa or the malicious one she gave Mineta. A genuine smile. She breathes in deeply, closes her eyes, and looks up.
As she sighs out, a green gout of fire leaps from her mouth and Ochako backs away with Tsuyu.
When the fire stops, Izumi straightens out her neck, her green eyes wide. “Wh-What the hell?” She asks.
“So… Not One For All?” Tsu asks.
“No, I know all those quirks already. You’ve all seen them.” Izumi’s eyes widen, and she moves to a nearby weights bench to sit. “Fuck.” She says.
“What?”
“Just… Just recalling some memories now…” Izumi stutters.
“What memories?” Tsu asks.
“W… Well…”
—~—
Baby Izu walks up to their father, who just got back from work and sighed into the cieling. “Papa, why do you always sigh upwards?” They ask.
Their father smiles, “Well, Izuku, it’s a thing I developed overtime due to my quirk. Those of us with elemental quirks tend to end up accidentally using them when in emotional states. My quirk tends to activate on it’s own when I get angry, and when I’m angry, I take deep breaths, so I can calm down.”
“And since your quirk sometimes activates when you’re angry, when you take deep breaths you aim it upwards to make sure you don’t accidentally breathe fire on anything!” Izu had deduced.
Hisashi chuckled. “Yep, you got it.” He stood up, “So remember to sigh into the sky, okay kiddo? Don’t want your quirk to come in and you to accidentally incinerate anything!” He said jokingly.
—
Izu had been grumpy the past few months, Papa had to go overseas for work, and while their mother is amazing, they miss Papa.
So, when Kacchan and his usual group walked up like they owned the joint, it annoyed them.
But they felt something shift as the boys shouted some jeer about them having no dad. The four shivered and ran away, for some reason, but soon after that Izu blacked out, overheating.
—
The next day, Izu went with their mother to the Quirk Doctor, and that’s when their fourteen years of hell started.
“You should probably give up.” The doctor had said, the day Izu was declared Quirkless.
Izu blanked out for most of that conversation.
—
“… So… You’ve had a quirk this whole time?!” Ochako asks. “A-And you… You didn’t know!?” She stutters in her weird combination of confusion, anger, and a number of other emotions.
“What about the times you got angry? The Sports Festival, The USJ, Overhaul, All For One?” Tsu interrupts.
Izumi sighs. “Ten second theory? I was still able to think and strategize during those. The only reason I didn’t throw Mineta into the sun right then and there was because the Previous Users started shouting at me and I’m fairly sure Seven straight-up took over my body for a second. I don’t really… Snap often. Little quirk from my mom’s side of the family.” She then opens a notebook labeled ‘Annoyances Of Purple Bastard’ and writes something down before putting it away.
Tsu tilts her head. “What was that?”
“I started documenting every shitty thing Mineta does to us girls and anyone else. I got sick of his shit at the start of the year, but this… Well let’s just say I’m turning this notebook in to Nedzu or Aizawa and waiting in there while one of the two reads it. I’ll also need Momo to come with me, so if you two could text her for me?”
“What did he do?” Ochako asks while Tsu pulls out her cell phone.
“Used a word commonly used in Ireland to refer to a cigarette to describe people who are attracted to the same gender as themselves.” Izumi says, unable to actually say the word since it makes her so very angry.
“… What?” Ochako asks.
“He called someone or a group of someones, fags.” Tsu says, blunt as usual while putting away her phone. Izumi has to take another deep breath.
“Yep. And I hate that word.” Izumi says, her eye twitching slightly.
“Same here, but… It seems to pale in comparhison to fighting someone who killed a little girl over and over again…” Tsu says.
“I needed to strategize against the villains I fought, so I controlled my anger better. I would not and do not see the possibility of twiggy lil midget man being able to stop me from throwing him out a window and into the sun.”
“Wow, I have never heard you talk like that about anyone… He must’ve really set you off.”
“Considering my notebook on his shitty deeds is half full and I bullet point the list, he had it a long time comin’.” She says, huffing and picking up her bag. “Right, why did he know to send you two? And why were you unsurprised by the new quirk?”
“You kinda… Took the heat out of the air and Mineta got frostbite.” Ochako answers. “He probably thought since I am your closest ‘friend’ and Tsu was gonna pass out from being in the cold for too long, that we’d be the easiest to send out after you.”
“Oh… Oh! That’s probably why Bakugo and the others shivered!” Izumi says, eyes sparkling a little. “Also might be why…” She starts muttering at a mile a minute, and despite the fact that both of them hang out with the girl a ton, they still have no idea how to translate that.

(After school)
Aizawa Shota is so goddamn done with Midoriya and her ‘New Quirk of The Week’ nonsense. He knows she’s the ninth user and that she had unlocked all the quirks of the previous users, so what the fuck was this new shit?!
After it gets explained to him… He doesn’t know what to do.
“So… You have a repressed rage state quirk?” Aizawa asks her.
“Yep.” Midoriya nods. “And it was a quirk I was born with, which given my parents, means it’s dangerous as hell.”
Aizawa raises an eyebrow. “I don’t see your mother being classified as ‘Dangerous’…”
Izumi snorts. “If she ever decided to learn she could probably yank out your eyes.”
“… And your father? You never really mentioned him.”
“Oh, because I haven’t seen him face to face in years.” She shrugs. “Too busy with work while I’m too busy with hero class stuff.”
“… Right. You should probably talk to Hound Dog about that.” Aizawa nods. “Also we’ll work on your new quirk later, for now, care to tell me what Mineta did that set you off?”
“Oh, that’s been building up for a while.” She grabs a notebook from her backpack and tosses it on the desk, labelled ‘Annoyances of Purple Bastard’ “It’s about half full.”
Aizawa picks it up and opens it to the first page. He reads it, and looks at Midoriya with annoyance. “Why didn’t you turn this into me earlier?” He asks.
“I don’t exactly have much reason to trust teachers with my notebooks. One of my elementary school teachers kept a crate that had a colorful label on it saying ‘Burn Pile’. My notebooks went in there. Every time either her or another teacher caught me with one. She also put a note in my ‘student profile’ instructing the other teachers to do this. I should’ve had around 54 notebooks in my quirk analysis series by now. I have 18. You do the math.”
“That’s… Very illegal.” Aizawa says, seething a little.
Izumi shrugs. “Well, if you need confirmation for the stuff in there not from someone who is obviously enraged by the actions of Mineta, you can ask Yaoyorozu, since she’s the victim of a lot of his shitty actions.” She says, still remaining seated. “Also I’ll be leaving with the notebook… since… you already know.”
He reads through a lot of it before asking. “So do you keep these for everyone?”
“Like… a list of every bad thing they do around me or to me?” she asks, and Aizawa nods. “No. I only do it when it’s a danger to those around me or it specifically makes me really angry. I’ve written three total, one for Denki after that stunt at the Sports Festival, but since the others weren’t really all that mad about it and Jiro got her revenge, it’s the only thing written on his list. Also I’ve had a talk with him about it and he actually seems receptive.”
“And the other?” Aizawa asks.
“Bakugo Katsuki, though I destroyed the first two volumes because he is also trying to change. Volume 3 is one I give to him when it’s gained a new page so he knows what he needs to work on. No, I won’t be handing it over, because as I said, he’s trying.”
“… You do realize that Mineta could change too, right?”
Izumi shakes her head. “You should be getting to the section where I had a conversation with him. I took both him and Kaminari out of class to talk at the same time so it didn’t feel like either one was being singled out. Mineta left after calling me a slur while Kaminari stayed.”
After reading through that particularly frustrating conversation, Aizawa sets down the notebook and rubs his eyes. “You’re better off taking this to the principal. If you’re uncomfortable meeting him without a teacher you trust present, then just tell me. Though, if this all gets confirmed true, then Mineta is getting a juvie sentence along with his expulsion.”
“… Okay, so since you didn’t get to the end I’ll just tell you. He said ‘Stupid ‘F-slur that rhymes with Bags’”
An icy chill creeps into the room at the memory, but not enough to cause any harm.
“Hm. I guess given all that you’ve seen him do, this would be the last straw… Though I don’t see how you haven’t faced worse anger.”
“Well I have a few theories about that-”
“Theories that can wait for another time. For now, go to your dorm and rest.” Aizawa waves her off.
—
Izumi does exactly that, going back to her room after talking to Ochako, getting all the details she can recall of her recent anger episode, and starts to think on events where she was really angry.
The first, of course, is the USJ.
—
The noumu cracks the pavement with Aizawa’s face, Izumi feels heat enter her body as the familiar feeling of anger strikes.
Time seems to slow as Izumi analyzes this event. ‘Wait, Todoroki probably didn’t try and kill the Noumu… It probably froze all the way through due to my quirk… but if that was the case, where did the fire go?’
She spots Tsu, frozen, despite being the type to move in this kind of situation. Her eyes seem to sag a bit.
‘Fuck, I almost made Tsu go into hybernation and that’s why she nearly died!’
Time speeds up as Tsu almost gets her face dissolved. A chill hits Izumi and she feels the heat from her rage enter her arm at first an ember, then a full blaze.
‘I can move the heat around? Probably due to One for All… Heh. Just realized Todoroki is gonna ask a lot of questions… Oh, maybe the heat acts as an enhancer like One For All? Is that why I feel so much stronger when I’m angry?’
‘Goddammit if I knew about this quirk sooner I would’ve had so much less trouble with One For All!’ She’s tempted to cry, but abstains.
She punches and only hits the Noumu with a resounding crack as the ice that built up beneath its skin breaks from the force. Her arm is completely fine.
‘Wow, now that I think about it without trauma screaming at me, it was probably the fact that the Noumu had impact absorption that saved my arm. It probably took all the force out of the punch, not allowing any of the force to bounce back on me. It really is the perfect punching bag.’ She thinks, morbidly.
After that, she didn’t glean anything new from the USJ events, as she was just extremely panicked after All Might showed up.
—
The next time she feels that her anger would be high enough was the Sports Festival.
“I’m not All Might” She says to Endeavor, the number 2 hero.
“Of course you are-”
“And Todoroki-kun isn’t you” she bites “He never will be.”
Endeavor seems unaffected, but his eyes do widen, probably at the change in her eye color. She turns around with a scoff, going towards her match with Todoroki. As she sighs to get out the anger, smoke goes unnoticed, as she was so close to Endeavor she just shrugs off the smell as him.
‘Well of course he would be unaffected, he’s constantly on fire…’ Izumi thinks, letting the memory fast-forward till she’s faced off against Todoroki.
She looks at his left side, the fire side, and nearly gasps as she spots bits of ice forming on that arm and leg as well. ‘Dammit, it was right in front of us, too.’
She lets it fastforward more until their final attacks.
As she rears back her arm, green fire bursts from it, she hadn’t noticed at first, due to being caught up in the fight, but along with the usual sparks that come with one for all, the parts she’d started flowing the heat into had lit on fire.
—
She skips over the fight with Stain, as while sure, she’s fairly certain she’d slowed Iida’s bleeding with how pissed she’d been when he told her to leave, it wasn’t really worth a full rewatch.
—
She also skims over the final exams, as while yes, Katsuki seemed to have his explosions a little smaller than usual, she wasn’t really all that angry.
—
The next time she feels a true seethe is during the League raiding the summer training camp.
She had missed the fact that when she punched Muscular, the air between them had exploded due to sublimation. The emotional tension causing her to believe she’d punched with over 100% of One For All, which wouldn’t be possible, except for the fact that all the fire she’d built up also exploded and transferred into the man’s body, causing him to pass out from temperature shock, probably.
‘Wow, I am lucky that the bastard survived, even if I hate him.’
—
‘Oh my god that shiver wasn’t him being a fucking creep’ Izumi thinks as she watches her past memory of glaring at All For One while she and her friends soared away.
—
‘Wasn’t really angry during the license exam, except when Todoroki and Windbag were fighting… Though I guess I should check that out, just to be safe, since they were my allies in the excercize.’
She stares down one of Gang Orca’s minions with an irritated glare, her eyes blue as she’s not necessarily pissed at him, but still pissed.
‘Oh, so it’s whoever I aim the ire at, not who I’m actually irritated with? Hm. Requires further testing.’ she asks herself as the minion slowly tries to raise his weapon, shivering slightly.
She watches the rest of the memory, and nothing seems too interesting.
—
It’s her fight with Overhaul that really kicks the quirk into high gear without her noticing.
Overhaul getting the killing blow on Nighteye caused the air to cool, becoming winter conditions in the middle of a sunny day.
Overhaul killing one of his subordinates in such a brutal way caused the humidity in the air to form snow crystals. Overhaul doesn’t seem to notice somehow.
“Oh, kid, we kinda helped keep this aspect of you a secret during this fight. We didn’t really want to, but if you’d let your quirk draw from people right there, you would’ve killed Overhaul by taking all of the warmth from his body in under a second, so we kept your eyes from drawing the heat from people.” Nana says, suddenly appearing next to her in the mental space.
“Why didn’t you tell me about it, then?”
“Slipped our minds. You went through a lot after first manifesting us as speaking beings.”
Izumi sighs.
Overhaul calling Eri a killer causes a thin layer of ice to form over the surrounding area. The moisture in the concrete turning to ice.
Izumi notices none of this, not a single thing, far too pissed off at Overhaul to be observant. Heatwaves form off of her from the amount of heat she’s drawing from her surroundings. The volts of green around her strike the ice and cause small explosions from sublimation.
And finally, Overhaul takes Eri, and she feels something snap.
‘Okay, how did I not notice the fact that my entire body caught fucking fire?!’ Izumi asks the void as the memory pauses.
“You were only like that for a split second, we needed you to vent a bit of the heat so you didn’t pass out from overheating.” Nana replies. “You were too focused on getting Eri back. Oh, and don’t worry about her either. Just like how your quirk keeps people you don’t focus your ire on from feeling the cold, it also prevents them from feeling the heat. Unless they’re highly susceptible, like Tsu.”
‘Ah, of course… My quirk is Fucking Weird. Guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, given my track-record.’
Nana snorts and Izumi opens her eyes, leaving what the vestiges call ‘Memory Lane’.
‘Hey, Banjo, y’think you can hold onto your quirk while I test this one?’
“Sure thing, kid, just tell me when yer gonna test it.” Banjo nods, popping out of One For All for a brief moment before going back.
Izumi goes to sleep for the day shortly after, apologizing to everyone but Mineta then going to her room to pass out.
—
The next day, Izumi stands in an open field and thinks for a long while about every single thing that can possibly activate what she’s currently calling ‘Cold Snap’. Ochako stands in the same field, but decently far away, waiting to calm her down. And Aizawa, in case he needed to erase the quirk, as well as so he can see what they needed to work on.
Suddenly, the world around Izumi turns into a winter wonderland, a thin layer of ice coating the surrounding area, snow falling from nowhere and immediately turning to steam as it gets too close to Izumi.
‘So first off… Test how enhanced my strength is with only the heat…’ She thinks, desperately trying to keep from mindlessly raging. She tests by jumping. Using just ankle and calf strength, She jumps a good 20 feet into the air and lands with no damage to herself. ‘Reinforcement aspect, nice. Seems to be about as good as 15% full cowl, but I’m only stealing heat from the air.’ She thinks. ‘Also helps with my hand injury with the warmth.’ She flexes her hand, feeling none of the standard pressure pain she’s used to.
She squats down for a full power jump, and proceeds to hit 100 feet with ease. ‘Yep, definitely 15%.’ She thinks, landing casually. ‘And still reinforced from that height. Nice.’
‘Next, release methods for the heat. First off: Breath.’
This doesn’t go as planned, as Izumi is extremely pissed. Having thought about everything in her life that set off the quirk.
She screams, and it shakes the ground as a deep, guttural, roar, tearing it apart like she’d somehow used Present Mic’s quirk. She feels the heat fade as her mind calms slightly.
‘… Is… Is my original quirk just… Anger management?’ She asks herself, waiting for the heat to build up again as she starts making up imaginary scenarios to piss herself off.
For normal people, this wouldn’t work, but as someone with anxiety and other such issues, Izumi is very effective in her attempt, the ground almost freezing under her feet despite her extreme heat.
‘Y’know, this kinda explains how I punched All For One’s head off.’ Izumi thinks, dark humor clouding her mind as she remembers her last interaction with the fucker. He’d used a quirk that causes someone to go into a blood rage, no ability to think and only wanting the person who they force her to target to bleed.
He had deemed her too dangerous when able to rationally think, but he neglected to remember that she has 7 quirks, one that gets stronger the angrier she gets, as well as he didn’t know about her original quirk.
He had froze the instant the black tendrils exploded. She thought it was fear, but now she thinks all of his muscles turned to ice.
He’d made her target him, thinking that the best course of action since obviously he’d be able to tank anything she threw at him.
He was, evident by his unmarked grave under an All Might statue as another middle finger to him, very wrong.
She started sweating from her own heat, so she decides to release it.
‘Let’s see… Ah, fuckit-’ “RAAAHG!” She shouts, feeling the want to lash out at everything around her translate into her quirk exploding, fire blasting out from her in every direction.
“And I already know about the ‘Deep breath’ thing… Yeah, this is definitely just ‘Anger Management’ the quirk…” She looks over at Aizawa and Ochako, both rubbing their eyes as the giant explosion of fire probably blindsided them. She waves them over.
Aizawa walks over. “Any discoveries?”
“Yea, the ‘taking heat’ is definitely eyesight and intent oriented. I have to see you and be mad at you to steal the heat.”
Aizawa squints “How did you test that?”
“You really pissed me off during the first year. Constantly singling me out, putting me up against explodey-mc-ragey. And while I’m good at turning my rage on myself, it wasn’t that hard to let my indignance leak out. I have the combat override for anxiety, not just none at all.”
Aizawa cringes. “Yeah, I realize that now.” He sighs. “Alright, here’s the thing. Your record was absolutely atrocious. We let a lotta people through that door, but the fact that someone with zero control and an apparent habit of starting fights and attention seeking walked through made me really goddamn annoyed. Your reaction and Bakugo being an exact foil to your skittishness made me start reassessing, but it takes a lot for me to change my mind, as evidenced by my entire career. I sincerely apologize for my past rudeness.” He bows slightly.
Izumi takes a deep breath as a strange fog lifts from her mind. She looks up and lets it out, a few embers loosing into the sky. “I…” Izumi gets a hiss as she thinks of saying ‘it isn’t important’, so she goes down a different route, and the ghosts of her quirk seem pleased.
“I accept your apology. Never let it happen again.” She says with mock sternness. “Okay, so this also has a strange affiliation with anger control methods. Screaming has a lot more power, as do my muscles, when I have accumulated Heat. There’s also my deep breaths, which my dad taught me about, and allow me to breathe fire like he does… And finally there’s the explosion, which is a form of anger issues that some have. They keep it all bottled up until the pressure explodes and they do something drastic.”
“I think a drawback to using it too much is I stay pissed off for no apparent reason, as evidenced by my snarkiness with you just now. Another is too much Heat will make me pass out. Emotional overload is also probably a thing, as I started just… not really caring until I wanted to release it, which was the explosion.”
She hears Shuichi speak in the very back of her mind “Should you want, One For All can also take that heat and add it to the stockpile, just in case you aren’t in a place you can safely loose it. The quirk already tries to encroach on the heat every time you use it, but holding it back is easy enough.”
She relays this to Aizawa, who nods with a hum. “Well, it’s definitely useful, if your notes on its past usage are anything to go by, sure, temperature shock is a very serious thing so we obviously should get that part under control, don’t let your heat return to your target when you hit them…”
After a long private lesson, something the others in their class got used to since Izumi revealed new quirks, she and Ochako return to the dorms.
=Class chAos=
=Glass Bones, Paper Skin Changed Their Nickname To No Heat For You!=
No Heat: Say hello to my genetic quirk. Ugh, gross, can’t believe I have a quirk the normal way, what an atrocity.
Uravity: Luckily both One For All and Cold Snap work very well together, so she doesn’t have the same issue past users had!
No Heat: ^ also how tf do you know about all that?
Uravity: Girlfriend Powers.
Froppy: She bribed Recovery Girl with making sure you stay out of her office to tell her about any weird shit that happens to you. It was cute as hell.
Uravity: Tsuyu, you are also my Girlfriend. This means many things, including that I have baby pics of you. Reveal No More Of My Secrets.
Froppy: You do realize that those kinds of threats don’t work on me, right?
Uravity: Ye, I know, just scaring the rest of the class.
Dynamight: Oi.
Uravity: Yes, Explody-mc-Ragey? (:
20-Questions: Wow, I feel Threatened and I’m not even part of this discussion.
Alien Queen: Izumi, reel in your Feral girlfriend.
Uravity: I also have your baby pics, Miss Ashiaaskldfav
No Heat: Girlfriend reeled in.
Alien Queen: great! Now we can talk about what the fuck-
Ingenium: Izumi has been revealed to have a quirk that steals the heat from the air and whoever gains her ire, she can manipulate the heat out as flames. It was there before One For All was passed to her, she just didn’t notice because she has remarkable control over her anger, and when she gets angry enough that she isn’t controlling it, she tends to get very distracted.
Did I get the gist correct?
No Heat: Ye, thanks Ten.
Ingenium: No problem.
No Heat: I’m too tired to explain past the points Ten said, so I’ll leave it at that. Oh, I’ll also be off-campus tomorrow to go talk to my Mom. She said she has a surprise for me?
===
“You okay to go on your own?” Ochako asks from where she’s seated, cuddled into Izumi’s lap.
The girl shrugs, giving the girl in her lap a squeeze. “Should be fine. If you want to meet Mom then you can come with, same with you, Tsu.” She looks to the girl sitting next to them.
Tsu tilts her head. “Are you sure that she will be alright with our relationship?”
Izumi snorts “It’d be pretty damn hypocritical of her if she wasn’t. First off, she’s dated both of Kacchan’s parents she’s pansexual, second off, she did it at the same time with both of them consenting. She added my dad for a time, but they split when both her and ‘Aunt’ Mitsuki got pregnant. Mom taking Dad, Mitsuki taking Masaru. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’d all gotten back in their old relationship since then. I’ve seen the way they look at eachother and it slightly grosses me out. Sometimes it’s cute, sometimes it’s the long-jump incident.” She grins at Ochako, who suddenly turns very red as Tsu tilts her head curiously.
Ochako squeaks over whatever Tsu was about to ask. “Okay! So your place tomorrow!?” She asks, shouting a bit too loudly.
Izumi huffs a laugh and nods. “If that’s what you want to do. I’ll check with Mom first though.”
—
Her mother okayed it, so the next day, Izumi and her girlfriends were outside the Midoriya apartment.
She takes a deep breath, and rings the doorbell.
Who answers the door? A tall man with black, untameable hair.
Izumi looks at him in shock, “DAD!?” Her eyes flicker blue, then return to green before taking any heat from the air or the man in front of her.
The man grins, waving them in without a word.
Izumi walks in after gawking for a second, Ochako and Tsu follow.
After a bit of awkward silence as everyone gets settled in the living room, Dad sighs. “I missed… Everything, about this place.” A few tears slide down his face before his emotions get back in check. “Okay, so…” He grins again. “Why did you want to talk to me?”
“You wanted to talk to him?” Tsu asks.
“Yea, I… I told Mom. Didn’t expect much though.”
“… Oof.” Dad falls back into the couch, as though struck in the chest. “Guess I deserve that. Hell I probably deserve much worse. So should your mom be here for this?”
Izumi nods, and so Dad gets up and knocks on Mom’s door. She walks out with him after a short discussion.
After Mom gets settled, Izumi starts. “Right, so first of all, these are my girlfriends. Tsu is the one with green hair, Ochako is the one desperately avoiding your eyes.”
“Oi.” Ochako softly bounces a fist off of Izumi’s arm. “Quit stalling.”
“Fine, fine. I came to say, well, I have a genetic quirk.”
The One For All chaos was a worldwide thing, so Hisashi knew about his daughter’s quirk.
“… wow, that is a lot to unpack.” Hisashi says, reading Inko’s feelings without even looking at her. “So, I’m going to procrastinate and tell you all the riveting tale of how I had quit my job over a fucking year ago and wasn’t able to come back to this country for so goddamn long.”
“Wait, you quit!?”
“Yep. I was tired of them not letting me see my kid, especially when she was clearly having a rough time here. So over a year ago I said ‘Fuckit, I quit.’ And left. Then the shit with Overhaul happened and airports shut down. By the end of that, the War you fought in-” His eyes flare a slight red as he has to take a deep breath. He looks to the sky and sighs, orange flames leaping from his mouth before returning to the story.
“The war you fought in was already brewing and so American bullshit meant that flights wouldn’t go there until that was dealt with. Then the All For One stuff. By the time Airports opened again I had to make the fucking money to buy the ticket all over again.” He huffs, a few embers coming out.
“Wow, his brand of angry is much different than yours, Izumi!” Ochako says, brain to mouth filter, as always, disabled.
Dad raises a brow, and Izumi rolls her eyes lovingly. “Ochako, Weighted Blanket Mode.”
Ochako snorts and lays down on top of Tsu.
“… What the heck?” Dad asks.
Izumi huffs a laugh and her eyes change blue. The heater kicks on, and Izumi takes a deep breath, her glowering face morphing back to calm.
She slowly breathes out a green gout of flames, warming up the room again. Not allowing it to go a foot past her mouth before dissipating in the air.
“That’s my quirk. I’m lovingly calling it ‘Cold Snap’. I take the warmth from the air around me and whoever/whatever I am angry with.”
“That is… A remarkable amount of control for a quirk you just discovered, especially since it’s emotion activated, maybe you could-” What follows is absolutely blinding evidence that this man is Izumi’s father, as he mutters a full analysis on her quirk, way too fast for anybody but Izumi herself to understand.
As for the evidence of where Izumi’s ‘Icy’ mode came from, Inko’s face hasn’t changed from a clam smile, but she gives off an aura of ‘Death’.
“I’m going to be taking some medical community heads off.” She says, and Dad responds with
“Kay, honey, just actually leave them alive.” Without. Blinking.
“Wow, Midoriyas really are all terrifying.” Ochako says, nervously laughing.
“Kero. Mr. Midoriya? I’m wondering, where did you work before?” Tsu asks, Ochako finally moving off of her.
“Hm? Oh, I was a quirk analyst, working under Detnerat. Damn lucky I quit when I did. Cause that entire thing went crashing into hell. Even had to give some proof that I wasn’t a sympathizer to their bullshit.” He takes another calming breath, “I recall telling them ‘My daughter was known to be quirkless for most of her goddamn life and I love her so much that if Anything happens to her while you are wasting my time I might burn this fucker to the ground.’ The Look on the officer Tsukauchi’s face was priceless!” He laughs, a few embers from his quirk coming out and landing on the coffee table.
Izumi snorts. ‘I should probably want to beat him up or something, but honestly I can’t blame him for not being able to contact lately.’
The five have a long chat, lasting throughout even Dinner, just talking a lot over their food.
Eventually though, it’s time for the girls to go back to UA, so Mom and Dad lead the three out.
“Alright, I’ll leave the shovel talk brief. You saw what Izumi did to All For One. I’ll find a way to do that to you if you hurt her. Clear?” He says, completely serious.
“… Crystal. Kero~”
“Aye aye, captain!” Ochako salutes, not a care in the world.
Mom rolls her eyes as she spots the clear embarrassment on Izumi’s face. “Dear, let’s go back inside. Let them head back on their own. Have a good rest of the day, girls!” She shouts as she drags Dad back inside.
“Love you mom, Like you dad!”
Dad looks like he might cry but still gets dragged back in with a “Yeah I guess that’s fair.”
Ochako starts giggling as they walk back to UA. “’Like you Dad,’ Wow, that was the harshest I have ever heard you talk, Izumi, and that’s counting your trash-talk against Mineta.”
Izumi shrugs. “If he’s anything like me, forgiveness for perceived slights shouldn’t come as fast as I want to forgive him. He’ll be insecure about it for a long while.”
Tsu hums. “Yeah, Kero~ remember that time you stepped on my toe once and you were apologizing for it, like, the whole day?”
Izumi groans, blushing. “Shuddup!”

In the end, Mineta is expelled, and Shinso is moved into his spot, the awkward extra desk sitting in the back is put back in storage, and all is fine.
They hear about a villain that uses his sticky ball quirk on the loose that is caught and arrested by an underground hero.
They all shrug, continuing on with their lives.
