Chapter Text
Prologue
The dim shining of the lampposts did nothing to illuminate the street, the inky darkness seemed to spread for miles on end. The stillness of the night was suddenly interrupted by a lone gunshot, followed by the heavy panting of a man and the thumping of heavy footsteps. In his hands, he clutched a tiny girl, barely over a month old. He ran, terrified that if he stopped to look he would get caught. He dashed up a posh- looking house, and knocked madly on the door. The door swung open within the span of a millisecond and the owner glared at the unknown man. He was about to open his mouth when a small bundle was thrusted into his arms. He looked down to see a sleeping child, seemingly unaware of the events surrounding her. He at once noticed the interesting necklace on her. He turned back to look at the man and only then did he notice the wounds on the man. Most were fatal. He probably wouldn’t make it to tomorrow, and he was well aware of it.
“Take her,” he gasped, “take her and keep her safe, please.” His breath rattled in his throat. “Her name’s Mi La, you can decide the rest. This necklace, it means a lot to us, keep in on her at all times. Just please,” he collapsed. The man on the brink of death beckoned him closer. The other complied, he could not find it in himself to deny the man’s last request.
“Don’t let them take her away as they did to me.”
