Work Text:

Kakashi had been left in Kamui, chakra depleted and exhausted, unable to even stand up on his own anymore. His hands shook as he watched the blood coating them go from wet to sticky. All he had left to do was to curse his own inability to go all out against who he had for many years considered the most important individual in his life.

Even then, he couldn't help feeling relieved that the strike to Obito's heart still had not killed him. His tenacity was nothing short of admirable- especially compared to Kakashi's own sorry state, which he was currently in.

Unable to lift even a muscle, let alone leave the eerily empty dimension, he accepted defeat to his own weak chakra reserves. He refuses to rest at first, but slowly he's forced to allow himself to close his eyes. The borrowed one burned harsher than it ever had before, making it a godsend when he finally shut the light out.

He knew falling asleep like that was not ideal, but he didn't have much of a choice either. He needed his chakra back to leave this place, as the chance of getting help out of there was extremely slim.

Passing out had been easy with how little energy he had left, despite the uncomfortable surface underneath him. His heavy breathing finally evened out.

As he came back to it, he felt someone gently stroking his cheek. It felt like no time had passed at all, but he was surprised to find himself feeling completely rested.

Nothing could have prepared him for what he had woken up to, however, as the hand that caressed his cheek belonged to a being he could only describe as alien- and grotesque once he both felt and saw the scales littering the ocean green skin.

What confused him even more than any of that, however, was the gentleness of the touch. As if he was something delicate and precious, neither of which Kakashi had ever considered himself.

His sight sharpened once he noticed the influx of unfamiliar chakra, forcing his newly attained focus into a pair of eyes that felt much too familiar to belong to the creature currently stroking his cheek.

Kakashi's instincts forced him away from Obito as soon as he gained the strength to move at all, shock setting in as he stared at the godlike being that was smiling gently at him. The cogs in his brain turned as fast as they possibly could, looking down at his own body healing rapidly from the gained chakra that was nothing short of ethereal. Warm and calming, he had never felt any chakra like this before.

"O-Obito?" he questioned in disbelief, raising his gaze as he was finally far away to see the entirety of him. It turned Obito's expression thoughtful while he glanced down at his own abnormal physique. He didn't seem to think much of it, though.

Dismissively, he returned his attention to Kakashi, who wasn't given much time to react before he heard the creaking of wood behind him. Caught by surprise, he yelped as it lifted him back into Obito's arms. Satisfied to have him back in his grasp, he started pondering what to say.

"Hm... yes," he finally answered, seeming more occupied with brushing his hand through Kakashi's hair than anything else. Baffling Kakashi beyond speech, Obito leaned in to place a loving kiss just below his silvery hairline.

It took longer than Kakashi would have liked to admit to even process the action. He tried to push himself away again, but Obito's grip was like a vice. Unbelievably strong, even when taking his exceptional build into consideration. All the strength Kakashi could muster wasn't enough to even budge him a little bit.

"O-Obito, what are you doing?" he attempted again, realizing that his struggling was not going anywhere. The thoughtful expression returned to Obito's face, but the process still seemed to go on for much longer than needed.

"I realized I couldn't leave you here alone. Once I completed the sealing, the urge to come back to you was too overwhelming." Kakashi blinked, the fondness of Obito's words and actions only coming of as uncanny with what had transpired just a little while ago. The Juubi was obviously interfering with his thoughts and actions.

"But why? What about the war?" Kakashi did want to be happy about him coming back, but without these questions answered first, there was no way he could ignore everything that had been going on.

"Why? Because I love you, isn't that obvious? " Obito answers without even skipping a beat this time, while Kakashi feels the heat building under his mask. "I need you by my side, so won't you forget about your comrades?" he purrs into Kakashi's ear. It did not help the heat building up in his chest, but he knew he couldn't just accept something like that. He shoves his hand into Obito's face to try and push himself away again. It was more to make a point than anything because there was no way he'd outpower him like this.

"Did you think I'd just agree to that? Not when you're waging war on the entire world-.."

"So you'll agree if I stop the war?" Kakashi's struggling ceased, staring at Obito in disbelief.

"... Excuse me?" Feeling the need to make sure he heard him correctly, as he wasn't making any sense to just drop his goal like that.

"You'll stay with me if I stop the war? I can do that." Hearing it a second time did not make it any less unbelievable, but at least he knew he wasn't just imagining things.

"You-... you're serious?"

Obito flashed him a grin as Kakashi seemed to at least consider his proposal, abruptly moving to put him down on the concrete again, then rolled him over to his stomach. He located himself just above, all too close for Kakashi to be able to still his straining heart. He then felt Obito's clawed hand fondly stroking his back, in a comforting manner.

His hand only stilled as the hesitation was still clearly on his mind, Obito's divine complexion turning sour with a frown. Kakashi took a deep breath to speak up.

"You're not yourself right now-.. there's no way you'd be satisfied with only that once you get your rationality back-..." he was interrupted by a low, guttural growl. A sound that could not possibly be made by someone with regular, human anatomy. It was simply too feral, but it made his annoyance clear. "You never stop overthinking, do you? It's a simple question, Kakashi."

Obito was so close to Kakashi's ear now, his deep and currently agitated voice making Kakashi shiver. As Obito was directly above him, he was sure the alien incorporation of his late friend could feel it as well.

He proved Kakashi right by pressing up closer, delighted by every little response to his actions. It seemed to lighten his mood again, at least. The action made it even clearer now how much wider Obito's frame was, really making Kakashi feel like the delicate maiden he was being treated as at the moment.

Kakashi's withheld whimper made Obito stop in his track again, tensing every single of his muscles still. He took a deep breath before reluctantly getting off of him and back to his feet. He then took another deep breath to calm the tension in his body.

"I'm going to end this war now, Kakashi. That way, you won't have any reason to be so reluctant once I return, " he spoke through gritted teeth.

Kakashi was left on the concrete in awe, blinking up at Obito in confusion.

He couldn't gather his thoughts to say anything before he was once again left in the empty, bleak dimension. Obito was in a hurry to fulfill his promise, it seemed.

Even with him gone, however, Kakashi's heart never stilled. He sat up to look down at his shaking hands, all in an attempt to process what just happened.
