Chapter Text
It had been a horrible day at school that day, the teacher had announced to the class that he wanted to go to UA’s heroes course.
Of course the other students laughed, Katsuki had yelled and used his quirk (illegally) to intimidate Izuku.
Katsuki had jeered at him, threatened him and to top off his insults and physical abuse, decided to suicide bait Izuku.
Izuku’s stomach seemed to tumble down a seemingly never ending cavern as those words were processed through his mind.
Katsuki sneered, tilting his head up and strutting away at the sight of Izuku’s pale freckled face.
However that was only the beginning of Izuku’s horrific day.
Red shoes hit the concrete pathement, wobbling slightly as shuddering breaths wracked his frame. The damp pages of his notebook were tearing slightly as his white knuckled grip shook, vision blurred as tears bubbled up uncontrollably.
He wasn’t pay attention to the clutter of a drain cover hitting the ground from a powerful force. He didn’t notice until he was being engulfed. Drowned.
The cackling above him made him panic further as the Slime Villain went on about how useless he was without a quirk to take control of, but he’d make a useful escape disguise. He was desperate after all.
Just as Izuku was losing conscious, he felt something burning in his veins before he passed out. Just in time for Izuku's last breath, All Might smashed through the drain cover and blasted the Villain all over the walls.
He was quick to check on Izuku, realising his pulse was gone he begun CPR and called for an ambulance, meanwhile the Slime Villain escaped in silence.
When Izuku awoke it was to beeping and the smell of chemicals, it was sharp and made his nose and eyes water and burn. He felt itchy all over and his head hurt a lot. Besides his bed sat an emaciated blond haired man, his blue eyes were sunken into his skull. He wore a long baggy white shirt and green cargo trousers.
Izuku didn’t know this man.
“I see you’re awake. How are you feeling?” The stranger asked.
Izuku remained silent, unsure what to say as the man searched the room awkwardly.
“Right well… I’m Yagi Toshinori.”He bowed his head and presented a card, “I’m All Might’s secretary. He saved you and brought you back with CPR. He signed your notebook too, but he couldn’t be here personally, people to save and villain's to catch. I was sent to check on you, hope you don’t mind.”
Izuku took the card and scanned it over, it looked official enough.
“Sorry to bother both you and All Might…” Izuku spoke softly with guilt. He didn’t want to burden them both, especially not All Might.
“It wasn’t a bother, son.” Mr Toshinori smiled as Izuku looked down at his sheets.
Izuku was silent for a moment, Yagi begun to wonder if he should leave, but he hadn’t gotten his mothers contact yet so they could contact her.
“I really am weak. Useless, I couldn’t defend myself.” Izuku sobbed, eyes watering and bubbling down his cheeks.
“You’re not useless, son. Why would you say such a thing?”
“Because I’m Quirkless.” Was his reply, it shocked Toshinori that he’d ever meet a Quirkless child, in this generation it must be super rare. There was silence for a moment as both sat running over the events that happened previously.
Izuku sniffled, he looked up at Toshinori and showed a wobbly smile. “I need to get stronger. I still want to be a hero.”
Toshinori panicked, he’d seen this child die once already, he was lucky to bring him back. He can’t encourage this boy to be a hero without a quirk and watch him die again. Making up his mind, he took in a long breath of air and spoke.
“All Might wouldn’t want you to become a hero. You’re Quirkless, you’d be at a serious disadvantage in every fight. You’d face adversity from other heroes and citizens. You’d die… Becoming a hero is just unachievable for you, I’m sorry kid.”
Izuku’s face fell and he looked down at the sheets of his hospital bed, once again there was silence before Toshinori sighed and stood up.
“You’re wrong.” Izuku claimed, face full of stubborn defiance. “All Might would never say that.”
Toshinori paused, sighed and headed for the door.
“I’ll be back with a doctor. We need to contact your parents.”
Moments later the door opened again, this time in walked All Might himself. Grimacing thoroughly as he saw Izuku’s eye light up in awe.
“I heard from my secretary that you want to be a hero.” He was awkward, and Izuku was surprised, this was nothing like the confidence he radiated on tv. “I also heard you’re quirkless… I’m sorry, son. It’s good to dream, but try to have realistic goals. You could never be a hero, you'd be a liability. Try becoming a police officer if you want to help people. It’s a noble path, sure a lot of people don’t think the police are necessary anymore and will try to tell you that, but you’d be saving people then too.”
Pain and rage built up in Izuku’s chest. Rage. He’d never felt rage before. It was a horrible feeling, suffocating, like chains were wrapped around his lungs. Pulling tighter and tighter.
Though that could have been the impending panic attack.
Izuku didn’t notice when the door opened and a doctor walked in. He was too busy processing the pain of having the last shred of hope in his dream crushed, along with the incessant itching and burning in his veins. His head was pounding and the top of his head ached as it something was trying to break through his skull.
Hours passed, Izuku was silent in shock as his mother drove him home. He sat in the back seat off their small family car, which Inko used to drive to work every morning.
She was checking Izuku in the rearview mirror constantly.
Because of this, Izuku never passed the Slime Villain again while it had his childhood best friend now tormentor caught up in its grasp and attempting to free himself with his quirk all fired up to the max. Setting fire to the nearby trash and building, as the Heroes stood by and watched because they were in equipped.
We missed Izuku running in to save the day and earning All Mights respect. He never gets to train with All Might in preparation for earning his quirk and entering the UA’s entrance exams.
Izuku follows a different path.
