It was the day of Halloween. as the sun was setting the Minamoto siblings were finishing up setting up Halloween decorations. The eldest was humming was setting up decorations of fake cob webs and Jack a lanterns. The middle one was in the kitchen making food and putting candy in the bowl and the youngest was jumping up in excitement running around the house with her poofy dress and cape while holding a stuffed pink rabbit toy-which has clearly been dragged around everywhere she went due to how worn out and limp it was.
"KOU NI! TERU NI!" the little wild child grabbed at The oldest brother's shirt . both brothers turned in her direction as she was bouncing up and down.
"What is it little princess?" The oldest one smiled.
"How do I look?"the little girl stepped back to spinning around in her pink knee length poofy dress with a red cape. Upon her blond spiky hair was a gold painted cardboard crown.
Knowing how head strong the little Minamoto was the two brothers smiled.
"You look like a fierce warrior, princess!" the eldest grinned. The hyper child gasped with stars in her eyes before taking out her cardboard sword out then stomping a foot down with one arm up in the air holding the sword with the other arm on her hip still grasping her pink bunny she referred to as "Fairy" standing in a confident dramatic pose that would resemble that of a super hero.
"IM A WARRIOR PRINCESS!" she shouts.
"I can shoot lightning and will protect my Nii sans from evil spirits!"
"Yes you will" Teru chuckles at the the entusiastic 6 year old's imagination. Just then the middle one came from the kitchen with a an empty bowl in his hand. He had his sleeves rolled up and with an apron on.
"The sweets will be done soon and then dinner will be ready when you guys get back." He smiles while carrying the bowl in his hands over to a table near the front door.
Kou starts pouring candy as he stares out the window to see a person with pink hair covered in bandages sitting on the side walk.
"What are you looking at Kou?" Teru asks sliding next to him squinting his icey blue eyes to figure out what his brother was seeing.
Teru looked across the street at a group of Kou friends from school talking and goofing around with eachother. He closed his eyes and sighed turning to his brother.
"Hey," he puts his arms on the older blond's shoulder.
The cyan eyed boy shakes out of his trance on the stanger. "Yeah?" He answers.
"Are you sure you are going to be fine staying here alone" he looks at his younger brother seriously.
"Yeah I'll be fine Nii san. Besides someone has to pass out candy and make dinner for the warrior princess when she gets back." He smiles. Plus in his mind he remembers the last time his brother cooked…
In his mind, that is the scariest thing to EVER experience…
The older looks at him with a relieved smile.
Then Kou's wander to the window staring at the stranger on the side walk again.
"Hey Teru Ni do-"
"CANDY!!!!" The youngest runs in the room dashing towards the bowl of sweets.
"WOAH THERE TIARA THESE ARE NOT MEANT FOR YOU!"Kou lifts the bowl up out of her reach.
The girl pouted then changed the topic tilting her head. "Kou Nii what are you supposed to be"
Kou smiles placing the candy back down. As he smiles showing his fangs and puts his hands up like they were claws with ears on his head and a scruffy tail hanging limply.
"I am a big and powerful werewolf" he then attempts to howl.
Tiara laughed,
"Nii san you look so silly"
"You look more like that puppy we saw the other day" Teru laughs ruffling his younger brother's hair.
If Kou's ears were real they would be drooping at that statement especially coming from his older brother the one he looked up to for a long time. He was hoping it would have been a little more intimidating…
He could have at least said, "a dog"…
Tiara stops giggling and pulls on the elder's shirt.
"What about you Teru Nii"
Teru was wearing black slacks with a long sleeved buttoned up black collared shirt with a white t shirt peeking out at the top.
"Hmmm...you remind me of one of those western priests from those movies we watched" Kou commented. His brother looked at him dumbfounded.
"Ya know...those ones who deal with getting rid of evil spirits?" he adds on.
"You mean an exorcist?..."
"Yeah, thats it! AN EXORCIST" he snaps his fingers . The older chuckles.
Kou looks at the time.
"Teru I think its time you guys head out"
Kou grabs a camera as the three Minamotos walk out to the sidewalk.
And still sat that pink-haired boy in bandages on the sidewalk. Teru and Tiara walked over in the direction of the mummy boy and turned around smiling without taking much notice of the stranger. Kou holds the camera wondering why that pink-haired stranger did not move a muscle.
"Alright we are ready" Teru breaks Kou from his train of thought.
Kou then takes the picture still locking at the mysterious boy. Then took the picture shaking it off.
He waved to his siblings as they started walking to houses for trick or treating.
Kou went back in the house and finished prepping and waiting for trick or treaters.

The candy bowl was now nearly empty and dinner was now placed on the stove to cook. He went to the window to still see that same boy still sitting there. Kou was now really at his end with this as he opened the door to the house and walked out to this mysterious stranger with a broom in hand in case things got out of hand.
He walked up with broom tightly grasped in hand. He slowly approached and then holds it by the handle poking the pink head.
still no response.
Kou slowly stepped closer about to give another poke when mummy all of the sudden spun around with a face of annoyance.
"What do you want?! you dog boy?!" The mummy boy exclaimed.
Kou jumped back from this sudden reaction.
"I just wanted to know why you were just sitting here for a few hours" the young blond scratched his cheek.
The pink head just looked at him blankly for a moment...and then his face scrunched up in a disgusted look…
"Were you stalking me this whole time?!"
"No I-"
"You are a disgusting mangy pervert you lame traffic earring wearing dog boy!" The mummy boy scoots away.
Kou deadpanned at this statement his grip on the broom handle tightened. "What?! You were in front of my ho-”
"You wanna do all kinds of dirty things to me! Admit it! Just like in those-"
"Don’t you DARE finish that sentence..." Kou hit him with the broom with a glare. He tried to keep his calm but this weird stranger has been pushing him tonight.
The pink head gulped. Twisting the loose bandages. There was silence.
"So why are you doing?" Kou finally asks.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm just sitting here. You aren’t trying to do anything pervy-" he sneers with a hand covered by bandages against his face.
Kou gave him a glare that seemed to put the girlish boy back in his place. He then looked to the side to see a pumpkin bucket.
"I see you’re trick or treating?" Kou turns his head a bit, fluffy velcro ears flopping slightly.
The pink head turns to hold his bucket to his chest. "I guess" he sighs.
Kou looks at the bucket. "Why is your bucket empty?"
The mummy looks at the pavement with a face he can’t make out but based on how stuck up this boy is he can assume it’s one of embarrassment, “I...I’m not really that good at talking to people.”
Kou looks at him in surprise. “That’s hard to believe from someone so cocky and bold” he gave a half laugh
The mummy still didn’t lookup. Kou frowned a bit. “Hey- what if I go trick or treating with you-”
The mummy looked back up at him in disgust, “I don’t go places with suspicious strangers.”
He wasn’t wrong there, “You’re right.” the blond says he then stands up.
“Let’s restart- My name is Kou Minamoto! The second son of the honorary Minamoto family!” he smiles has one hand on his broom, like it’s some kind of powerful staff, and the other hand square at his hip. Though with the wolf costume it was a little hard to take seriously.
The mummy deadpans, “You watch too much anime…”
Kou holds the back of his neck in embarrassment. “I just thought it was a kind of cool way for an introduction..” he smiles sheepishly.
The mummy crosses his arms turning away with a scuff.
“By cool more like a creep who is trying to lure some unsuspecting cute person for-”
There was a broom inches from his face before he could even finish.
“Don’t even” the wolf boy growls giving a death glare. The pink head gulped.
The blond sighs and puts back the broom face up,” so now that you know my name whats your name?”
“Mitsuba” he simply answers.
Kou simply then smiles at the boy, Mitsuba.
“Well, now that we got to know each other would you like to trick or treat together Mitsuba?” Kou asks with his hand out.
“Aren’t you a bit old to go trick or treating” Mistuba says.
“Well I could ask the same about you.” Kou spits back. There was another silence.
Mitsuba finally stands up noticeably shorter then the wolf boy and starts walking away.
"Where are you going" Kou asks.
"Im going trick or treating what else does it look like lame traffic safety earing." Mitsuba huffed.
Kou smiles.
"But you will be the one to do the talking and stuff got it?" Mitsuba crossed his arms.
“Ok, hold on I need to get dinner out and leave a note for my brother.” The blond dashed back inside tail slinging limply behind.

The two were on the streets now stopping at many houses. As promised Kou did all the talking explaining that his friend was not good with talking to strangers pointing at the bandaged kid hanging towards the beginning of the yards snapping pictures of random stuff with his camera. (he apparently had a camera with him the whole time and Kou never noticed originally) He often dissapeared from veiw yet hiding in plain sight.
Typically many people were kind and offered the wolf boy extra candy for his friend-but there were the occasional bad apples who just shut the door at the excuse.
The two boys made small talk but it was always interrupted when when the mummy boy bent down to take pictures of the most unusual stuff.
Along the way they meet Kou's homeroom teacher "Tsuchigomori sensei" as he was dressed like a spider fake 6 arms and all. He didn’t look thrilled to see his student at his door at this time as he is typically that kind of person to leave a bowl on the porch every year, he could care less about who takes it.
Kou talked to him about his friend struggling to talk the spider sensei rolled his eyes and gave him a full bag of candy- only cause he wanted to get rid of it...before a certain pair of twins come...and one having a full on sugar rush. With that Kou said good bye before Tsuchigomori began to argue with his next door neighbor dressed as a kitsune. They seemed to be at eachother's necks often…
……..
Kou took a break to devided the candy evenly again only to see Mitsuba's bucket was empty.
"Where did all the candy go?!" Kou questioned
"Well…" Mitsuba looks to the side and mumbled- "I ate it all"
"You WHAT?!" Kou exclaims. He takes the pink hair boy by his head. " you're gonna get cavities idiot!"
The mummy boy kicked to wiggle out of his grasp.
"Hey Kou kun" he hears a sweet voice from behind. He turns around to see his lovely senpai, Yashiro Nene, wearing an aqua with hair in pigtails and wearing a hat pointy hat that flopped at the top.
"Oh h- hi Yashiro senpai" he smiles turning to greet her and a pair of identical brothers.
"Hey Kid!"
"Hey Hanako! You arent being creep on yashiro Senpai are you?" Kou raises an eye brow arms crossed.
The boy hides behind Nene in embarrassment. "Look it was an accident can we just NOT bring that up- why must you still call me that name!- especially in front of Yashiro san..."
"Well its still your fault-" Kou smirks at the one embarrassing secret of the older Yugi.
"Oh Kou kun what are you supposed to be? A cat maybe?" the girl looks at him a bit puzzled.
"No I think he is supposed to be a puppy or something" Amane chuckles.
"Oi! I'm supposed to be a werewolf Hanako" The blond responds emphasizing the last word.
...
"Why do you do this to me…" Amane looms down. Nene pats him on the back unaware of the implications of the name.
"Because it’s the one thing that will stop you from teasing me Yugi senpai." The blond scowls. The other boy also gives a glare
"Well that’s a cool costume Kou Kun" Nene smiles ignoring the tension because this was something between the two boys.
“ Are you some kind of demon?” Kou asks as he looks the raven head up and down.
“Thats a close guess boy, but no. I’m actually a vampire” Amane smiles flashing fangs and flipping his velvet and blood-red cape behind himself. The young blond nods and turns to his other senpai.
“So what are you Yashiro senpai?” Kou asks curiously looking the aqua blue outfit.
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m a witch” she smiles putting her hand on her witch hat, “Aoi chan and I decided to do matching costumes”
“Awww why can’t we do matching costumes Nene chan~” Amane leans against her being a bit clingy. Kou sees the once again shy reserved Yugi acting very bold with Yashiro san.
“Mmm maybe next year Amane kun- Aoi chan and I have planned this for a while.” Nene blushes at the slight closeness. Before she gasps with an imaginary lightbulb above her head and swiftly grabs the hand of the Yugi causing his cheeks to pinken slightly.
“ Maybe we could do the phantom of the opera!” Nene’s eyes sparkled while Amane held a blank expression.
“You mean the one with the creepy old guy who haunts a theater and mistreats his supposed “muse”?” the vampire deadpans.
“Eh...well-” the witch tries to find a way to justify it’s a bit romantic.
“I say it’s a fitting role for you Yugi senpai-” Kou says.
“Why you-”
“AMANE!”
The raven head gets attacked from behind before he can say anything more. By a boy in white identical to him.
“agh...Tsu why did you have to do that now” the older Yugi gets up brushing himself off.
“ Amane! Nene chan!- the house across the street was selling full-sized candy bars! And the one next to it is selling monster eggs,” the Yugi in white reaches in his pocket and pulls the egg out for the other three to look at, “see?” he says with a toothy smile.
“ehh...Tsukasa kun that’s just a normal egg covered in paint…” nene said frowning.
“Well that’s what you think- I just need to take care of it till it hatches!” Tsukasa laughs.
“So are you an angel other Yugi senpai?” Kou asks.
“no I’m a ghost,” the younger Yugi says hugging onto his pillow in hand.
“But why would you wear a nightgown and carry a pillow around?”
“Our mom said no cutting holes in the sheets so nothing happens like last time… so he is wearing mom’s old nightgown.” Amane decides to add on to the explanation for his brother, “as for the pillow...I can't answer that."
"Its for the in case I wanna go to sleep at the party"
"Party?"
"Oh yeah after we are done getting some candy we are going to Aoi chan's house for a party." The witch explains.
"Oh thats cool-"
"So what about you Kou kun?"
"Yeah you said you would not be out this year." Amane chimes in.
"Well you see I was originally going to stay home- but then I met Mitsuba" kou says pointing to the side.
Tsukasa hanging over Amane looked at the young Minamoto, "but there's no body there…"
Kou looks to the side and it was true no body was there
"are you sure you arent just imagining it?"
Oh no sorry I forgot to mention he is just shy around people. He isnt good with talking to people he is around here some where just let me find him"
"Well sorry Kou kun we have to get to Aoi chan's party, maybe we can meet your friend later"the witch said.
So Kou parted with the twins hanging along with the witch. As he searches for his mummy friend.
He turned to finally see Mitsuba take a picture of a fallen bird nest.
"Oh there you are- you can't just run off like that you know?" Kou sighs in relief.
The mummy looks up rolling his eyes, "I told you I'm not a people person." The girly boy huffs.
"Then why are we getting candy like this? Why not just go to the store to get the candy instead?"
"Because I want people to notice me."
The blond looks at the pink head puzzled.
"Then what is the point of me taking you from house to house if you arent even going to try once?" He sighs. He then walks to the side of the curve and sits back down.
The wolf boy sits down to join him.
Kou passes him a hard candy. They both unwrap it and pop it in their mouths, the inside labels had little puns.
The wolf boy's line said "too sweet for you" with candy corn.
The mummy's said "you found my sweet tooth" with a heart at the end.
It was cheesy so both balled it up putting it back in the buckets.
"Lets go find some more candies shall we?"
And so the two went from house to house again even running into many familiar faces of a third year from school dressed in elegant attire she was calm as she gave Kou candy- until an air head boy came towards he had black wings and horns. She did not hesitate to smack the demon boy with a book.
They even came across Aoi's party. It was noisy so no one came to answer the door- and they just left. The night was seeping farther across the sky as the sky went from a bleeding red a darkening blue.
House porch lights were beginning to turn off left and right.
There was silence for the most part. They sat down again grabbing 2 hard candies.
"Its not hard to stick around" with image of a lolly pop.
"You found my sweet truth." With the image of a wheel replacing the heart.
"Huh, thats kinda weird to get a second time what are the odds Mitsuba," Kou laughs.
There was silence.
"Maybe we should head now, want me to take you home?"
Mitsuba stood up with an unreadable expression.
"Thanks for this- I thought I would have to miss it again… I- I… I have to go now bye!" And with that he zooms away.
"HEY WAIT!" Kou dropped his bucket chasing after the mummy. But there's no sign of stopping.
Through the grass across the roads he chased and chased. Kou was determined not to loose sight. And as the mummy was crossing the road a car was coming.
There was no horn to alert the pink head.
"MITSUBA!"
Kou jumps after Mitsuba to get him out of the way. But- he was gone. Kou held nothing but the dirt and grass with no mummy in sight…
Kou looks around in confusion. He calls out for the other boy over and over.
But he's gone. The blond stands back up looking to see if the car stopped but it was also no where to be seen…
Almost like it was never there.
He starts backing up only to trip over something. He gets up to look at it-
There was a stone, with some wilting flowers and a long disposed and abandoned camera on the side of it.
A memorial.
"In memory of Sousuke Mitsuba"
October 31, 20XX
Cyan blue eyes stared onto the engraved marker. He couldnt believe what he was seeing…
From the corner of his eye he spotted a candy wrapper that blew right onto the stone.
"You found my sweet tooth".
