From sun up to sun down, Rose’s life on the farm fills up every single hour of her life and she adores it, from greeting Charlie in the morning with a kiss and a hug (which sometimes turned into much more) to greeting Lizzie and Sadie, the cows. She milks, she feeds, she mucks, she cleans, and all of it before the sun comes up.
The kids crowd the kitchen at dawn, and she checks homework, makes sure teeth are brushed, and stuffs them all with a hearty breakfast. When the school bus comes, it’s only 7:30.
There’s mending, baking and cooking to do. She’ll exercise her horse, Jenny, by riding her down to Mrs. Kventerland’s place to check on her new herring mill.
Rose is fresh-faced, grinning, filled with joy as she changes her clothes for traveling. Her life on the farm is busy, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
