Chapter Text
December 12th:
Whenever it snows, usually Shoto or Bakugou are called into action to melt the snow.
However, Shoto was at home, staying this week for... whatever, so Bakugou was made to clear the snow from the blizzard they had last night.
And Bakugou fucking hated the cold.
At least he was allowed to use his explosions to blast away snow and melt it, as well as getting rid of the ice.
He was making short work of it all, and was looping back around down the pathway near the main U.A building to melt the snow on the other side of the sidewalk, when he noticed a snow bank he hadn’t touched yet get blown apart, with a female voice shouting a kiai from behind.
Bakugou looks over, bemused as the snow clears, only to find Kendou smiling confidently as she resizes her hands. There’s something… Off, about it, though. It looks forced. Surprisingly, she’s not wearing gloves, her hands a light pink and red color, some parts even turning purple and blue.
That… That wasn’t good.
“Oi, Hands!” Bakugou shouts as he begins trudging his way over to her. Kendou looks up, her eyes lighting up as she smiles at Bakugou. God, she’s way too nice to someone like him. “Your hands. Why the fuck aren’t you wearing gloves?” He asks, snarling.
“Oh! I… I can’t use gloves. My hands just tear them apart wherever I use my Quirk, and there’s not really a way to get around that…” Kendou scratches the back of her head sheepishly, her smile now crooked. It was only then did Bakugou take note of how much she was shivering.
“You’re literally fucking freezing. Go take a break or something so you don’t lose your goddamn hands to frostbite.” Bakugou barks commandingly. Kendou just waves him off, her hands puffy and swollen up. It was clear the action hurt her, but she was still powering through it like the trooper she is. Even though they never interacted before, Bakugou had a high level of respect for her, for how determined and strong she was, even compared to pretty much everyone else, and especially one of the strongest, probably the strongest and most capable females in the Hero Course, besides maybe Tsuyu or Ochako.
Right now, she was just tearing herself apart to get a job done that he could take over.
“I-I’m fine.” She stammers. That sends Bakugou’s soul straight out of his ass, evident by the sudden dropping feeling in his stomach. “I-I’ll finish this, t-then go warm my hands up.”
“You need every single damn part of you warmed up.” Bakugou looks at her, his face scrunched up as he looks her up and down. Kendou just glares at him threateningly, but Bakugou doesn’t back down.
“I said I’m fine.” She says in a low voice, showing she won’t tolerate this anymore. “Do you think I’m weak? Aren’t you always complaining about equality and stuff like that? How about you just leave me be and-”
“Put your hands out.”
…
“...What?” Kendou asks, her glare gone and replaced by a confused look. Bakugou briefly thinks it looks cute before shaking his head.
“I said put your hands out to me.” He paraphrases. Kendou just looks at him apprehensively,
“Now, why would I do that? What are you going to do to me???” She says accusingly.
“Just fucking do it.” Bakugou growls. Kendou glares at him, not taking her eyes off of him as she puts her hands out towards him. Bakugou snarls as he brings his hands up over hers, just barely touching hers.
Kendou was about to ask what he’s doing, only for a sudden hot, yet comforting feeling to begin gracing her hands. She looks down, and sees an orange light around her hands emanating from Bakugou’s palms. Tiny sparks dance from the light, touching her skin and giving off a pleasant tingling feeling. Kendou groans, sucking in a breath and biting her lip as she looks up at Bakugou. He’s still looking down at his hands, almost like he’s studying them.
“I’m able to turn my Quirk explosions down really low to where it just barely hurts. In the winter, when our heater breaks due to Sparky’s dumbass, I use it to keep Frogger alive so she doesn’t freeze to fucking death.” He says way too calmly for the amount of expletives thrown in. Bakugou looks up at her, his face stoned and expressionless, but a somewhat worried look in his eyes. “‘S okay?” He asks.
“I-It-...” Kendou inhales sharply again, the comforting warmth against her raw skin on her hands far too overwhelming to fight. “‘S perfect…” She sighs appreciatively. Kendou looks up at Bakugou again, a soft look in her eyes as she smiles warmly. “Sorry about being so cautious of you… I really am… I… I-I didn’t know that… Y’know-”
“That the same kid who relentlessly picked on Izuku and made his life Hell, the one who ruined All Might's legacy, is somewhat compassionate and caring towards people who are literally freezing, I get it…” Bakugou sighs. Kendou has a hurt look on her face, but Bakugou ignores it, slowly moving his hands around Kendou’s to heat the other side of them. Kendou can’t speak, only inhale sharply again as the overwhelming warmth and comfort hits her softly again.
“Go back to the dorms, I’ll clear the rest of this shit up and say you did your lot and I did mine.” Bakugou says finally, not looking up.
“N-No.” Kendou blurts out. Bakugou looks up at her, bemused. “T-Tell them the truth. E-Equality, r-right?” She smirks a little at the end. Bakugou returns it with a tiny, barely visible smirk as well, but it quickly fades away. He goes to remove his hands, only for Kendou to let out a whimper which penetrates Bakugou’s very soul as she suddenly grabs his hands, yanking them towards her and holding them near her chest. “I-I k-know you h-have to f-finish, b-but-”
“I’ll fucking walk you back, I wasn’t planning on letting you go back alone anyways.” Bakugou says, a light pink blush on his face. Kendou smiles at him, giggling a little. Bakugou slowly begins leading the way back towards the dorms, briefly letting go of Kendou’s left hand to move his left hand around to his side, where it was quickly snatched up again by Kendou.
Both of them walk back single file to the dorms, completely quiet.
That was until Kendou finally broke the silence.
“...I-I was a-at it for hours…” She mumbles sadly. “...M-Monoma s-said I had to prove I-I’m stronger than all you guys, and wouldn’t let it go until I a-agreed…” Kendou whimpers at the end. She feels the heat on her hands grow suddenly, before it falls off, and then grows back again, though slowly and not as intensely. He hears Bakugou growl threateningly in front of her.
“You’re fucking stronger than most of the extras in my class. Not as strong as me, you and no one ever will fucking be, but still pretty damn strong and an amazing hero. The fact he made you stay out here ‘til the skin on your hands were raw and nearly lost them to fucking frostbite is enough of a reason for me to quarter him like I’m a goddamn Mexican cartel sicario.” Bakugou spits, his Quirk flaring up.
“P-Please d-don’t… D-Do that…” Kendou says softly. “I don’t want my personal hand warmer to go to Tartarus.” She giggles. “Besides, it’s Monoma. H-He’s still a friend, just… H-He’s-”
“Way too extreme sometimes?” Bakugou finishes. It takes a few seconds, but Kendou eventually nods, and rubs her cheek up against the back of Bakugou’s coat lovingly. He doesn’t respond, he just only increases the temperature and intensity of his Quirk, causing Kendou to let out a low hum of appreciation.
When they reach there, Bakugou lets go of Kendou’s hands, shutting his Quirk off as he turns around. Kendou quickly clasps her own hands around themselves in an attempt to retain the warmth she was so sorely missing. She coughs, looking up at Bakugou who looks down at her blankly.
“T-Thanks…” She says, smiling crookedly. Bakugou just nods, and begins walking around her to go back down the path, only for Kendou to grab his coat sleeve gently. “...I-I really mean it… I-I’m s-sorry again about what I s-said earlier… I-I didn’t expect you to be so caring…” She looks up at him. Bakugou just snarls down at her.
“Thanks for apologizing for something I already said wasn't a problem. Now go warm your hands up before you really lose them to frostbite.” Bakugou retorts. Kendou just pouts at him playfully, and a small blush creeps it’s way onto Bakugou’s face again before he scoffs, and turns away, adjusting his scarf before forcing his hands into his pockets.
Kendou just looks on after him sadly before she turns slowly and makes her way up the dorm steps.
She was going to have to talk to him later.
