Till the Ends of the Earth

Summary:

The moment before the fall.

Or how I imagined it atleast.

Notes:

I hope you like it! This is actually my first time publishing a finished fanfiction and if there are any parts that I should improve please don't hesitate to tell me.

And also this is my first time using ao3 so errors are to be expected.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

On top of the London Tower Bridge there stood the detective against his nemesis, the man who is considered as the greatest mastermind criminal, the Lord of Crime.

From below, the masses were cheering for the detective to arrest the criminal once and for all, but he payed no heed to them and instead focused on the man in front of him who was standing close to the edge of the platform staring intensely at him with his ruby eyes on his own sapphire ones.

“Everyone has seen the sight of the Detective fighting the Lord of Crime” Liam stated as he took a step back getting closer to the tip of the wooden platform

"So, I'm ready..."

"Don't use your death as an escape!" He shouted at Liam who was getting ready to take a final step back and fall to his death but Sherlock wasn't going to accept that.

“Live, and atone with your life for what you've done.”  He continued but Liam's gaze didn't change even the slightest bit. He can already see it was beginning to get pointless but he wasn't willing to give in. He promised Liam's brother that he will save him, he promised Liam that he was going to catch him.

He wasn't willing to let the story end this way.

"Isn't that right Liam?"

Liam didn't respond but shifted his gaze at his palm, then back towards to the detective in front of him. His frown turned into a small grin and took another step backwards

Causing him to fall .

Sherlock's eyes widened and ran to the edge of the platform to prevent Liam from falling even further.

"You stubborn jackass, How can you leave me like this?!"

He was able to get a hold of his arm but he was struggling to get him up. He wasn't going to let him fall to his death, he couldn't afford that and live the way Liam planned for him to live.

"Why.. Would you go so far to save me? Liam whispered, but he heard it loud and clear.

"Isn't it obvious? Because you are my friend just like how you see me as a dear friend!"

His answer caused Liam to look at him with surprise but then shifted his gaze with a soft one.

“I was too much for you wasn't I?”

“You weren't too much for me, I wasn't worthy enough for you.” Sherlock rebutted.

“My dear friend detective, you were worth everything I hoped for, so please...”

Liam slowly raised his hand that was holding the sword and slashed his arm causing Sherlock's hand to let go of the arm he was holding moments ago.

He watched Liam fall even further. But he wasn't ready to accept the truth that the story Liam orchestrated was going to end the way how he expected it to be.

He wasn't going to do that, he was going to alter the story's ending altogether.

“If I was worthy to you, how could I if I can't even save you!”

Sherlock jumped after him causing Liam to widen his eyes in disbelief. Eventually, Sherlock managed to catch him and hugged him protectively and all Liam could do was admit defeat and struggled no more.

"I finally caught you..." Sherlock whispered

"And that, you did." William responded

"Even until the ends of the earth, I will always catch you like just like I promised I would and I would never let you suffer alone."

Sherlock vowed and eventually they both hit the freezing water of Thames.

Notes:
