Work Text:
It was late at night. Eddy was just getting into bed next to Brett, whom he thought was fast asleep already. He tried to be quiet while getting under the covers next to his boyfriend, when Brett slowly turned around, facing him.
“Eddy? I can’t sleep.”
“Why? What's the matter?”
“I keep thinking.. I want to tell them already.”
Eddy’s eyes found his in the dark, knowing exactly what Brett was thinking about.
They discussed it before, still postponing the decision when other things and filming were more important. But now they were back in their flat in Singapore, happy to be back and share a bedroom again. Share a space that’s only their own and comfort in each other’s arms.
“Yeah? You think we're ready?”
“I think so. Our show, especially the Tchaikovsky part, got so much positive feedback. Even our new pictures are well received. And the people voting what my type is, well, they weren’t wrong, were they?” Brett chuckled, still embarrassed by that moment. He didn’t expect the question to be there, they should have set some better boundaries beforehand with their team. But with the results on screen, he felt seen and something in his chest was happy for it to be so visible.
“The fans won't hate us. Most of them probably know already, and I feel they're the ones that matter the most. Those will be there to support us into another year.”
Eddy was watching him carefully, thinking of all the options over and over again. Of course he wanted to tell the whole world as well, but their safety and happiness was in the first place. There were so many things to consider. But. But when was he ever able to tell no to Brett Yang?
Over a decade ago Brett was the boy that captured his heart with his violin playing, his confidence and his humor. And now he’s the man he loves most in the world. Eddy thinks not much has changed in that department of him loving Brett, except everything.
“Yeah, you're right. We did say love reveal at the beginning of 2021. It just took us some time to be sure, right?”
Brett moved closer to Eddy, cradling his cheek in the palm of his hand, so softly like Eddy was something he needed to be careful with, whispering now against his lips, “I love you so much, Eddy. I want to tell the whole world. That you're mine and I'm yours.”
“I can’t say I don't feel the same way, love.” Eddy kept looking between Brett’s eyes full of love and honesty to his lips, until he closed the distance to kiss Brett, unhurried and slow, trying to transfer the happiness he felt with every moment they got to share together.
“We can drop more direct hints first, if you want to test the waters more, just to tease them a little bit. Let me tell them how pretty I think you are, without any explanations, just me being honest.”
Brett blushed at that and Eddy fell a little bit more in love with him, if that was even possible.
“Okay that's kind of funny. Whatever you want.” Brett knew he was smiling at Eddy far more often in the past few months since they started dating, than ever before in their videos. It felt healing, freeing, to be able to meet Eddy’s eyes without avoiding them, without feeling ashamed of loving his long time best friend, who apparently felt the same way about Brett for some time. He loved looking at Eddy and seeing how his partner looked back, sharing a knowing smile when their eyes met.
He planned to up the game of touch towards Eddy more, since that was always Eddy’s go-to love language.
Eddy loved touching him, and Brett always treasured that - reassuring pats on his shoulder, quick exchange of their violins, where their fingers would meet for a millisecond, the hugs that lasted longer than they should have been.
Eddy didn’t prefer to be casually touched as much by other people, mostly because of being so ticklish, but during years and years being friends and then more, Brett learnt what is his comfort touch, what is okay and what is not.
Sometimes, he could feel Eddy wanting to touch him, needing his comfort, arms waving behind them when filming side by side, until they settled on the back of his chair or the window sill in their Brisbane home. So so close, but never enough to put pressure on his shoulders. He knew he would have to be the brave one about it. He doesn’t mind. He would do whatever it takes for Eddy, it’s been like this since he met him all those years ago and he wouldn’t change a thing.
“Well then, you’re going to hear it from now on a lot, until you tell me you’re tired of it.” Eddy laughed as Brett mumbled “Never” and curled up into his neck where Eddy could feel his smile. “Do you think you can get some sleep now?”
“I think so. Thank you, Eddy. Good night, love.”
“Sweet dreams, Brett.”
Eddy tucked the blanket closer to them, making sure it was properly around Brett so he wouldn’t get cold during the night, and they both soon found sleep, calmed down by being in each other's arms.
