Shouldn't you take on someone your own size?

Summary:

They knew that Kaguya would try anything to gain the advantage, but for her and Zetsu to make their way to a time a couple of years after Kurama destroyed Konoha, when Sasuke, Sakura and Naruto weren't even in the academy yet, wasn't something they had expected.
Not wanting to let the Rabbit Goddess got so far as to take them out before they could grow up and pose a challenge to her, they traveled after her. Surprising Konoha 15 years in the past with a glimpse of what would become of their new generation.

Work Text:

They touched down on the Hokage Monument, the faces showing to the Yondaime - to Naruto’s dad - but not Tsunade or Kakashi. It was somewhat odd to see, as they were used to seeing two extra faces on the monument. But then, that wasn’t what they were here for.

No, looking at the sky, it was obvious that Kaguya had been preparing for this. To make sure that she could wipe out Sasuke and Naruto when they were little more than babies, where they couldn’t access the enormous power they would have later in life. Which they couldn’t let happen, not when they had the possibility to do something about it.

“So, plan of attack?”

Naruto hummed, “She’s going to recall the Juubi any moment now. Given that this is about 4 or 5 years after Kurama rampaged around Konoha they aren’t up for such a foe to come on their path. Not only that, but given the state of the village, the Uchiha are still here but given the fence around their compound I think the segregation has already begun.”

Looking at the Uchiha compound, which was on the edge of Konoha with a much more menacing fence around it then the other clan compounds had, Sakura couldn’t help but agree to that. To think that this had been the Uchiha’s way of living until they were killed off. Only for Konoha to clutch Sasuke close as if they hadn’t helped to deal the finishing blow to his family and clan.

Looking at the Uchiha next to them, Sakura would see the pinched look on his face, his clan was still alive here. Might still be alive here after everything said and done, but would they be able to deal with all this. With him and Naruto, with the fact that several of the village secrets (past and future) would read their ugly heads would not do the current administration any good.

Not only that, but Danzo was still out there, no matter what happened now, it was certain that the old War Hawk would do anything possible to come on top of this. Even if that just wasn’t an option with Kaguya. Not that it mattered, they just didn’t have time to deal with the Shimura on top of dealing with Zetsu and Kaguya.

“I’ll be fine, I just don’t like that this will most likely turn into a shitshow.”

Naruto sighed, “We’ll deal with that when it comes. Right now we need to make sure that no one gets taken out, or worse; sucked dry of chakra to bring the juubi back to life. Kaguya on her own is a nightmare to deal with, add a semi-awake Juubi and we’re fucked.”

Sakura shook her head as she pulled her gloves tighter, “So hit them hard and make it count? Preferable before anyone major - except for Danzo - gets taken out.”

Her teammates nodded at that, before they disappeared over the ledge by the Hokage’s monument. Looking out over Konoha, she had to snort, “Well, they’ll have no idea what it is that is about to hit them. Not from Kaguya, and even less from Naruto and Sasuke. That should be fun to watch.”

Following her teammates off the ledge, she touched down quietly just below the Hokage monument. All three of them waited for the unofficial signal to let the village know of their arrival. Pulling the hoods over their hair and the mask over their nose to at least attempt to hide their identity for as long as possible. (Knowing Naruto, that would be until the first blow. But who knows, maybe the blond could surprise them.)

Hiruzen had believed that this would be the end of it,  He had already been forced to take up the hat again after Minato died from sealing the Kyuubi in his son. In an effort to keep up with the changes, and to keep Konoha safe he had called upon his former teammates and best friend; Danzo, in an effort to do the work he used to do while younger.

Certain things, such as the civilian council and inner village communications were left to them - just to name a few things - while he concentrated on their shinobi forces and relations with the other villages.

Which were strained ever since the end of the last war. There was a tentative peace, but it never felt like it would last long. Which was one of the reasons he made Naruto’s parentage a secret. There could be spies anywhere and without Minato and Kushina there, he didn’t think that anyone would be able to protect their new Jinchuuriki.

The news of Naruto’s Jinchuuriki status did get out through Konoha, how he wasn’t sure but so far it stayed in the village making it less worrisome. Given that he was blond, and had been given the name Uzumaki he should be safer in all.

In all, he was feeling his age, and knew that a lot of things weren’t going all that well in Konoha. The clans were at odds for one reason or another, and seemed to be most irritated with him. For what reason, he didn’t have a clue.

“It cannot possibly get any worse now, can it? The village is at odds from the inside out, there have been rumors of Kumo close to our borders and I do believe that I got another report of a clan child going missing.”

Rubbing over his eyes, he groaned as the door to his office was thrown open to admit Nara Shikaku, a pinched look to his face, “Hokage-sama, there was a huge cloud of summoning smoke spotted. No one we know of should be close enough for that to appear, so we’re at odds as to what is happening now.

The chuunin guard has closed the gate in an effort to hold off whatever is coming out of the way, but it would be a good thing to start evacuating the children, and the civilians. We won’t be able to deal with something that would need a fully functional shinobi force, as we’re not yet up to that.”

Hiruzen sighed, feeling the hostile air around the Nara clan head. He should have known that Shikaku would react badly to being told that he wouldn’t be able to take on Naruto. After Mikoto and Kakashi got the same answer, he had felt the hostility rise.

Neither of them, or their clans, were showing it in any other way but their slightly chilled way of communicating with him. He didn’t have the heart to tell them off for it either, not when all of them had lost a loved one with Minato and Kushina dying. Their son lived on, but wasn’t close to any of them, in an effort to protect their heir.

“Call in any ANBU team we can spare. We must be prepared for anything that happens. I don’t want to think what would happen if this was an attack from one of the other villages. Prepare the troops we have and see what else is going on.”

Shikaku pressed his lips firmly together, but nodded as he left the office again.

Hiruzen sighed, just as an explosion rocketed the room he was in, it would seem that they were too late in preparing for an attack. It was underway; they would just have to roll with the flow in whatever way they could.

The whole of Konoha could feel the explosion and the resulting rumbling that went through the ground in the aftershock.

Most of the older shinobi were on edge at that moment, the flashbacks to the war or the attack of the Kyuubi was enough for them to grab whatever they could get their hands on. No one of them had any idea what was going on, but it couldn’t be a good thing if the explosion was any indication.

Shinobi, those active and retired, were making their way to the gates to see that the large doors were blown right off - the srouch marks indicating that it was done with quite a lot of force.

Given that nothing else was still burning, it wasn’t a katon jutsu, but that didn’t mean anything. There were a lot of jutsu that could blow something up; but that could also mean that their opponent was someone who had an unknown kekkei genkai which could lead to anything.

Shikaku appeared closely followed by Choza and Inoichi, all three of them trying to get a look at the person who attacked them. All they could see now however, was smoke, as well as a whole lot of white.

White robes, white hair and white looking beings that were making their way towards the village. They couldn’t recognize any of them, but it didn’t look good.

“What even in the name of the Sage is this?”

Shikuka shook his head, “I have no idea, but I don’t like what this implies. Are there ANBU teams nearby who can get a closer look?”

Fukagu, who had just arrived, activated his sharingan, with Hiashi doing the same thing with his Byakugan.

“What even, it seems that the person coming closer to us is filled to the brim with chakra. Their pathways are so widespread that they are in fact one whole chakra conduct. Let’s hope we can keep them off until such a time the others have been evacuated.”

Sasuke, Sakura and Naruto could feel the ground shake beneath their feet. The approaching chakra signature was also telling enough as to what had happened.

The surrounding chaos let them know that at least Konoha knew that something was going on and tried to make sure that the civilians and the pre-genin kids were led away. Making sure that even if this was the end of Konoha, they would live on.

“Now can we act?”

The answer to that question came when Juubi defenders were making their way into Konoha. The chuunin and jounin waiting there were taking them on and doing a good job at it, but it wouldn’t be enough for when Kaguya or Zetsu came out of the woodwork. Zetsu they might be able to handle, but Kaguya wasn’t that easily taken care of.

As was the case right now, the Moon Goddess was approaching, making it hard for the others to breath because of the chakra bearing down on them. They weren’t used to something like this, least of all when the strongest they had ever felt had been Kurama - mind controlled as he had been - and while Kurama was the larger part of Kaguya’s power, he was still just under half of it. The whole power of the Moon Goddess would make them shiver up and die when exposed to it for a longer period of time.

Arriving at the gates, Naruto chuckled as Kaguya seemed to be looking for something. It didn’t take a whole lot to figure that out, she was still looking for the younger versions of Sasuke and Naruto - to make sure that they would never become what they were this time around; to give herself a way to achieve what she wanted all along. To have all chakra for their own instead of the humans.

“Shouldn’t you take on someone of your own size?”

The white haired woman turned to look at the three cloaked individuals suddenly standing in between them and the shinobi of Konoha. They had not seen these people before, but with the amount of creatures making their way into Konoha. Followed by the woman in white, who was making them all freeze up from the amount of chakra she was emitting.

Zetsu appeared out of her sleeve, hissing as he took in just who was standing in front of them, “You… You won’t be able to stop us this time.”

Naruto tilted his head, “How so? Because it would interfere with your plan? You should know by now, that we won’t let you do this. This is our world now, your time has passed.”

“Namikaze. Still there to foil my plans.”

Naruto just grinned, “That’s Uzumaki-Namikaze, you know.”

The people behind them were shocked as the hood came off, showing a grown up face of the child they could see around the village. Only this time it was more obvious just who his father was, except the Uzumaki face and eyes, Naruto very much grows out to be his father’s son in appearance.

Sasuke, sighed, shrugged off his hood, turning slightly to look at his father who choked when he saw the Rinnegan in his youngest son’s eye socket. The legendary doujutsu was enough to make them all pause, looking on as the three in front of them took on the lady in white. With her seemingly distracted by something else, it was quick work to seal her once again. Making sure to seal Zetsu in another dimension instead of together with his mother. They didn’t want to do this again.

As expected, the moment Kaguya was sealed the Hokage and his advisors were in the streets. Danzo, sadly, takes point and tries to apprehend them.

Sadly, they were more than prepared for that, showing the village just what the man had been doing with too much free time on his hands. Hopefully with this, this dimension had another outcome then their own had.

Chuckling as they made their way back home, they were relaxing at the knowledge that this would be the end of it. Time to work on their own lives now, it has taken long enough.
