Chapter Text
Life should be simple now. Things should be easy, make more sense. There should be a steady rhythm with a concrete direction.
Should .
That word holds a lot of promises that Legosi would love to see come into fruition. Those promises feel like long ago dreams now, like a childhood fantasy.
Things have changed a lot since the black market was shut down. Grandpa has been spending every Sunday with Legosi having lunch.
Haru has still been pretty busy with University, but she makes plenty of time to spend with her boyfriend. They talk every day about her studies, and Legosi’s job. During school breaks, Legosi goes home with Haru to her family’s home to get to know her and them better. It’s hard to sleep in a home made for tiny rabbits, given his height, but it’s worth the discomfort to him.
Legosi got a promotion in his job, so he’s begun living much more comfortably, though he still keeps humble dwellings. He’s never been a wolf to want for much fancy accommodations afterall.
His life is the best it’s ever been since his fight with Riz.
So why does he feel so unsatisfied? Like there is a missing piece, or maybe a hole left gaping.
Legosi sighs heavily, laying his manga down on the floor beside himself. His mind has been racing all night, preventing him from getting any sleep. He picks up his phone, absently scrolling through his photos, pausing at a picture from several months ago.
He’s wearing a suit in the picture, holding a beaming Haru in a sweet pink dress close to his side. Beside them are two red deer, looking like 2 actors in a sorrowful play. Louis is dressed in a sophisticated suit, looking wonderfully put together. Next to him, stood his beautiful bride, Azuki. They looked stiff, though they each feigned joy on their smiling faces. They were a proper couple though. A male and a female. Both herbivores, both red deer. The ideal couple.
Legosi gently brushes his finger over Louis’ glowing face. He looked wrong here. Memories of a better smile, a truer smile come flooding back to Legosi’s mind. He didn’t get to see many truly happy smiles from Louis but he cherished every single one he did get. They haven’t seen each other in months. Running a company and trying to keep a spark in a new marriage are a lot of work, or so he assumes. Sometimes, when he’s drunk, Louis will call and complain about his new life. They reminisce about high school life. They talk about theater, they talk about their first interactions. Most importantly to Legosi though, they simply talk.
Before he knows it, his phone is dialing Louis. Legosi goes to hit end, to text him that it was a simple misdial and apologize, but before he can, the phone is answered.
“Hello?”
Oops…
“Hello…?”
Maybe it’s not too late to han-
“Legosi, are you there?”
Nope, too late.
“Ah, sorry Louis-san! I hope I didn’t disturb your sleep!” Legosi hurries out, feeling guilty. He probably woke Louis up…
“You didn’t. I haven’t been to sleep yet,” Louis sighs into the phone, with the sound of liquid being poured out coming across the line. So he has been drinking again…
Legosi smiles, feeling his tail moving softly behind him. Louis’ voice never failed to sooth him.
“Ah that’s good… are you drinking?” Legosi inquires.
“Yes.”
Stupid stupid stupid. Legosi feels so stupid, calling with no plans or idea of what to chat about. He doesn’t even know what possessed him to call!
“Legosi, why are you calling so late? Is everything okay?” Louis sounds so worried, it tightens Legosi’s chest.
He rubs his face with a hand, holding back a groan. “I’m fine. I was just, uhm, looking at older photos. I saw one from your wedding and I just wanted to, you know, check in on you. Is Azuki-san there?”
Louis has a smile in his voice as he speaks “No, she’s in the next room over. She and I tend to prefer our own sleeping arrangements. It’s more comfortable this way. I’m doing well. I’ve missed your voice.”
Legosi’s heart tightens. He almost wants to cry. He’s missed Louis’ voice too, so badly. His smell, comforting and sweet, his smile, his stern looks, his soft fur-
“I’ve- uh I mean I… I miss you, Louis-san”
“I like the way you say my name, Legosi. It’s almost like a whimper,” Louis teases, taking a sip from his liquor. It’s bitter and it stings. A lot like this conversation, actually.
Legosi sputters, feeling his face flush, fur standing on end. Suddenly he is very glad that Louis is simply on the other end of the phone and not there with him.
“Will you come to me, Legosi? Meet me in my home. Azuki is sound asleep by now.”
Shit. Legosi hears his tail thumping loudly against the floor. Sorry, downstairs neighbor. “Yes,” is all he can manage. His heart shouldn’t soar like this. He shouldn’t feel so giddy about it.
Louis laughs at how pathetic Legosi sounds on the other end. Such a shy little puppy. “Good boy. Hurry up now.”
—
Haru laid, body splayed across Legosi’s chest. They both were shirtless, dressed from the waist down only. “You know, a girl like me can only wait for so long for you to finally actually be ready,” Haru whines. This big body turned her on, the way she feels against his coarse fur.
Reptilian eyes blinked quickly. Was Haru going to dump him because they haven’t had sex yet? He was just so frightened… She was so small.
“Hey! Are you listening to me? I wasn’t done!” she scolded, bopping him on his snout.
Legosi nodded, giving her all of his attention now.
“Good. As I was saying, I have needs Legosi. I know your possessive wolfy brain is going to get mad at this but I need you to hear me out! What if, I proposed to you, that until you feel more in control of yourself, we sleep around a little bit?” Haru suggested, glad that she was capable of being very bold when need be.
‘I don’t think that’ll even help. Haru is just too fragile. But I love her so much and if this is what it would take to satisfy her, who am I to stop her? Ah but I so badly wanted my first time to be with her. Maybe if I have sex with another carnivore for my first time though, then I’ll be able to control myself…’ Legosi pondered silently.
Haru got frustrated, shaking him with all her strength “Are you still not listening??” she asked, glaring at her boyfriend.
“What? Oh no no no I listened! I was just considering it!” Legosi defended “I… think if that’s what you think is best, then maybe we should give it a try”
—
Legosi shakes his head, trying to vanish the memory. It isn’t helping him right now at all. He’s already way too worked up for just going over to see Louis. Louisi. He smiles to himself. The other train passengers look at him with disturbed expressions, trying to ignore his huge presence. Louis makes him feel small. It’s refreshing in a world that views him as a gigantic monster.
The train comes to it’s smooth stop at the station and Legosi gets off last, letting the other passengers off around him. It is a carnivore’s duty to be courteous to herbivores, and a large animal’s duty to look out for the smaller ones.
Legosi wonders what Louis would think of if he said that to him. Louis always got so angry when they were in school because Legosi never used his full strength. The only time he used his full strength was when the life of a beloved herbivore was in danger. When that happened, all Legosi saw was red. Red. Red is such a beautiful color.
He walks the remaining distance to Louis’ home, texting the red deer that he had arrived.
Good boy came the reply from Louis.
Legosi swallows hard at that, his heart a flutter, heading up to see one of his favorite herbivores. Maybe that phone call wasn’t such a bad idea after all…
Louis opened the door, smiling wide. His expression is so much more earnest like this. Honesty can’t hide on a drunken face. How much has he had to drink? Legosi wonder’s silently.
“I’m glad you came. I was hoping you wouldn’t change your mind,” Louis hums, trying his best not to slur his words. He is trying, so hard to keep his composure. “Would you like a drink?”
Yeah. Legosi is really glad he called.
