Work Text:
Julieta was sitting comfortably on the living room couch, back resting against the soft fabric as balls of yarn were thrown everywhere. She was holding a part of knitting needles in a firm grip as she quickly worked, more and more blue yarn becoming connected with each move. She was knitting Agustín a ruana from scratch. She knew he almost never wore clothes of that sort, preferring his fancy shirts and suits, yet she wanted him to at least own something warm he could put over his clothes if he was ever freezing, and a ruana was perfect in that.
She had of course picked Agustín’s favorite color, and she knew he would look absolutely handsome in the finished product. She could already imagine him, standing there tall and proud, almost drowning in the dark blue fabric.
It was nice to finally have some time to sit back and relax and just enjoy a peaceful moment like this. She didn’t knit often, Agustín being the person making most of the clothes for the family, but when she did, she cherished every moment of the calming activity. She could knit for hours without losing interest, especially after a long day in front of the stove.
“Everything going alright, mi amor?” she hears Agustín ask from where he’s sitting beside her. He’s having a teal skirt in his lap that he had recently finished sewing, and now he was in the middle of embroidering fine details with some white threads. It was clear the skirt would be a gift for Julieta, even if he hadn’t told her in advance. After all, teal was her favorite color, and it was a color neither Pepa or her mother ever wore, the two of them preparing shades of yellow and a pinkish red respectively.
She nods and presses a kiss on Agustín’s cheek, enjoying seeing the tailor so lost in his project, wanting to make all of the details count. He had a certain finesse to him that she would never have.
“Everything is going great. I’m so excited to finish this ruana for you, you’re going to look so adorable in it, blue is really your color. Then you will always have something warm to put on if you’re freezing.”
“It really does look warm and cozy, I can’t wait until it’s finished so that I can try it on, I treasure everything you make for me,” he replies with a huge smile on his face. He keeps embroidering during the entire conversation, and it makes Julieta chuckle. He was really stuck in the zone.
“What are you embroidering?”
“Oh, I thought it would be nice to add the silhouettes of some herbs and plants to the skirt, or else it will just look too bland with no details. I don’t want my wife wearing boring clothes, especially when I’m the one making them. You deserve something unique, just like you deserve the world.”
Julieta feels how her face quickly reddens at the comment, and in return she gives him another kiss, this time on the lips. As she saw Agustín’s flustered reaction, she knew she made the right decision. He was adorable when he was blushing, and she could never get enough of it.
“You’re too good to me. You’re such a charmer, mi amor,” she says as she puts her knitting down in her lap in order to ruffle his hair. She lets out a small laugh that mixes together with his, the sound echoing through the living room. Then she looks into his dark brown eyes that always make her lose it, they are heavenly and she sees the sweet innocent twinkle in Agustín’s expression. She truly loved that man beyond words. “You know exactly what to say to make me a blushing mess.”
“I’m just telling you the truth, you deserve everything,” he says as Julieta once more grabs her knitting. His words make her feel warm and fuzzy, like she’s on a cloud. He was charming her in the exact same way he had charmed her when they were still teenagers, already madly in love with each other.
“You’re so sweet to me.”
“Of course I’m sweet to you. I want you to know how much I love you, all day, every day, corazón.”
“Ay Agustín, you’re going to make me drop everything if you continue to charm me like that.”
His laugh fills the air, a dreamy sound to the woman.
“Sorry.”
“I didn’t say stop , did I?”
She kisses him once more, and then gets back to the ruana as Agustín continues his embroidery. They work mostly in silence, with Agustín saying something sweet or flirty to her every couple of minutes, Julieta’s whole body heating up every single time. He was so sweet and gentle with her, to the point that it was hard to describe. And she cherished every moment of it as they sat there right next to each other, currently in the middle of making clothes for the other.
Julieta doesn’t know how much time has passed, but she makes significant progress on the ruana, even if it is far from done. It takes a long time knitting such a large piece of clothing, after all, and it would be a project that took several sessions. Agustín however, seemed to be done with his embroidery, working with the speed of light, not poking himself with the needle even a single time.
As he puts the needle and the thread down, he takes the skirt and holds it up in the air, a prideful expression on his face. He gives Julieta a huge smile as he watches her look over the skirt. It was really pretty, and she already knew she would be wearing it the following day.
“What do you think?”
“I love it!”
She truly means every word of it, the skirt had such a rich color and so many details. Agustín had really outdone himself with the embroidery, she could easily see all the gentle care and love he had put into making the skirt for her.
She takes the skirt from Agustín to look over it closer. With every second, she falls more and more in love with the piece of clothing that Agustín had spent hours on, the skirt he had made for her and no one else.
It was a special feeling, to be gifted something he had made completely from scratch, filled with his love for her.
Yes, this was her new favorite piece of clothing she owned.
She gently places the skirt down on the couch over the half finished ruana, in order to jump into the warm embrace of Agustín. She laughs as she kisses his cheeks over and over at a quick pace, and in return he gently grabs her waist, lifts her up in the air and spins her around. They almost fall over, the couch catching them, which simply causes their combined laughter to grow, and for Agustín to give her a sheepish, embarrassed look as he tries to mouth an apology.
Julieta simply kisses him again, just finding his action adorable.
“Sorry about that.”
“Never apologize for being adorable.”
Agustín chuckles, and Julieta feels like she’s about to melt when he takes her hands in his own. He feels warm, and all Julieta wants to do is to hug him tightly once more, kiss him over and over, and simply cuddle for hours.
“So, I take it that you like the skirt?”
“Like I said, I love it. Every piece of clothing you make for me makes me feel so happy, you always put so much love and effort into everything you make. I can’t wait until I’m done with the ruana so that I can give you something too.”
“I’ll happily be waiting for you to finish it so that I can wear it around the village and brag about how my amazing wife made me the warmest, coziest ruana there is to everyone that will listen.”
Julieta chuckles.
“Just like you bragged to the entire town for weeks after I proposed to you. “Julieta Madrigal proposed to me, my wonderful girlfriend proposed to me, she’s my fiancée now and I couldn’t be happier, look how wonderful she is'' was all the town heard for weeks, and I got several annoyed people at my healing stand begging you to stop. It was adorable.``
“Well, I was very excited. Who wouldn’t be?”
She laughs as she hugs him tighter, pressing a kiss onto his forehead.
“Just come here and cuddle me. We have some free time left before I need to start with dinner.”
