remember the day

Summary:

When Pepa finds her wedding dress in her wardrobe, she puts it on.

Work Text:

She had simply been rummaging through her closet for something dry to change into, currently being soaked from head to toe with her dress clinging uncomfortably to her body. The texture was all wrong and it was too heavy, and it was a miracle she hadn’t yet slipped on the tiles when she created a wet path behind her as she walked. She had spent over an hour and a half making it rain on some of the farmer’s crops, and it was obvious that she was exhausted and overwhelmed by all the sensations around her.

That was when she had seen it in the very back of her closet, the white fabric catching her attention as it stuck out like a sore thumb between all her yellows and oranges she usually wore. It could of course only be one thing, what she had worn on the happiest day of her life, Pepa’s wedding dress.

Pepa let out a happy sigh, and when she blinked all she could see inside of her eyelid was her wedding, just as vividly and clearly as it had been when she experienced it almost four and a half years ago.

Almost four and a half years of a blissful marriage with the love of her life, just the thought made her feel warm as joy radiated from her core as she flapped her hands and saw how the sun’s rays intensified outside of her window. For a brief moment, the uncomfortable wet dress on her was forgotten, but only for a moment, though.

She practically throws it off herself in a fit of rage to get the bad texture off her body, followed by her bloomers. Much better .

When she can finally think straight again without any sensations distracting her, she looks back at the dress again, the smile growing on her face as she recollects the day. Sure, there might have been a hurricane, but it had still been the happiest day of her life and she would marry Félix again in a heartbeat, even if they would have to do it in the middle of ten hurricanes. A part of her desperately wanted to relive the moment they had truly become one, giving themselves to each other completely by saying their vows, getting pronounced husband and wife, and lighting their wedding candle together in the rain.

Before she knew it, she had the dress in her hands, letting them run over the smooth silky fabric. She really wanted to feel it against her body once more, as a way to re-experience some of the best memories of her life.

So she does it, she puts it on.

The dress still fits her perfectly, having been tailored for her and her alone. As the woman walks over to the mirror and she sees herself, her smile grows. She’s beautiful and seeing herself in the mirror almost makes the woman tear up. Was this how Félix always saw her, as a beautiful angel that radiated emotion?

She can’t help but spin around in the dress, loving to see it fly up in the air with the win, and it makes her let out a playful laugh as the joy grows inside of her. She loved the dress and she loved what it symbolized, the start of her marriage and the rest of her wonderful, happy life with the man she loved more than life itself. She would do anything for Félix, her love for him burning brighter with each passing day. Pepa would always be grateful over the fact that they were going on this journey together, the fact that they wouldn't part until death.

The joy grows in her with each spin and she sees a rainbow appear above her as she indulges in an almost childlike wonder, enjoying the joy that overpowers her. It’s soothing after having spent earlier today conjuring rain, focusing on nothing but negative emotions. This is refreshing and… healing.

Pepa doesn’t know how long she’s admiring herself for, but she’s so caught up in the moment that she doesn’t hear the door to her bedroom open and close, and she doesn’t see the man happily admiring her from afar with a smile on his face. Not until he speaks up, that is.

“You’re just as beautiful as you were on the day of our wedding.”

Félix’s voice startles her and makes her jump backwards. It is followed by a single, terrified lightning bolt then strikes down on the ground between them. Félix’s laughs while Pepa’s face lights up in flushed embarrassment. Félix always told her that her not being able to control her powers with simple gestures like that was amusing and adorable to watch, but she just found it embarrassing beyond belief because it meant her emotions were out in the open even more than they usually were.

“Félix! Sorry, I didn’t see you there.”

“Lost in thought?”

“Maybe a little,” she says as she nods, letting her fingers fidget as she runs them over the soft fabric, the texture feeling nice and her. It makes her happy. “I just saw the dress in the wardrobe and had to put it on, and it brought back so many beautiful memories. Our wedding day was beautiful.”

“I understand me vida, our wedding day is the second happiest day of my life.”

Pepa is almost taken aback by the answer, confused by his words.

“Second?”

“Yes, nothing could ever replace the day I met you for the first time. That will always be the best day of my life, the day I saw my weather goddess for the very first time. From the very first moment, I knew my heart belonged to you and that you were the love of my life.”

Several more rainbows appear overhead as Pepa gazes at him with eyes wide in awe. Her heart is pounding quickly as the warmth spreads across her whole body, filling her with love and joy. Félix’s words almost make her tear up, he always reminds her of how much he loved her. It made her feel happy and whole, they truly belonged together, and Pepa wouldn’t change a single thing about their love for each other.

Félix always knew what words to use to make her knees weak or make her swoon.

“Félix… you… do you really mean that? That the two of us meeting was the best day of your life?”

He gives her a nod before pressing a soft kiss against her lips that makes Pepa go haywire, he’s so sweet and gentle with her.

“I mean it with my life. You’re the light of my life, and meeting you was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.”

“I love you so much.”

“And I love you, mi vida. And you look so beautiful in your wedding dress, you’re practically an angel.”

“You’re making me blush.”

“Is that a bad thing?”

“No.”

They kiss once more, and Pepa gently wraps her arms around Félix’s arms. They laugh and put their foreheads together as their embrace tightens. Pepa feels warm and fuzzy and safe in his arms.

“You know, we never had a chance to dance at our wedding,” Félix then says. Pepa remembers it well, how the reception had been canceled because of the hurricane, with them going straight back home afterwards. “Do you want to have our first dance now? When you’re dressed for the occasion and all.”

“We’ve already danced plenty since we got married, this wouldn’t be our first dance.”

“Well, it can be in spirit.”

She chuckles and gives him a nod, letting him lead the way.

“I’d love that.”
