Chapter Text
Jimin is nervous, an unusual feeling for him in his university setting. Not used to walking into a class alone, he would usually have Taehyung or Jungkook by his side. His mostly confident demeanor fades as he watches the students work meticulously on their creations. He already feels in way over his head.
Choosing art as an extra subject to bring up his grades even further had seemed like a good idea at the time. Though now, standing outside the classroom door with sweaty palms, he wonders if it's not too late to back out.
Stepping past the threshold of the doorway, his eyes scan the room for any spare seat, landing on one by the window. His gaze sweeps upwards slowly, taking in the black leather jacket, broad shoulders and defined jaw of the person sitting at the desk.
His head turns swiftly towards Jimin as if startled. A soft pink tongue slowly pokes out past pretty cherry red lips, wetting the flesh as Jimin's eyes slowly take in the rest of the stranger's features. A cute button nose twitches, as if softly scenting the air, nostrils flaring with each step Jimin takes closer to him. Pale cheeks tinge the lightest shade of pink as he stops before his desk.
Finally, Jimin's gaze locks on a pair of sharp, slightly shocked eyes, their feline shape drawing a light, barely concealed gasp from the younger. He's beautiful, enchantingly so. Dark brown eyes peppered with green and gold flecks stare into his own, their pupils contracting and dilating with each breath before growing round, almost completely overtaking his brown peppered iris's.
💛
Yoongi always sat beside the window, his face tilting towards the sun as he basks in its warmth, almost always fighting the urge to curl in on himself and sleep. A faint scent of mint, orange blossom and vanilla pulls him back to his senses, the hairs on the nape of his neck standing on end as he whips his head towards the doorway.
A petite figure stands there, his golden tendrils of silky hair practically glisten in the sunlight. Hooded eyes nervously glance around before landing on him, before weaving through the desks, towards him. The scent grows stronger the closer the blonde gets to him. Licking his lips in an attempt to taste the scent on his tongue, his nose twitches, nostrils flaring as his gut twists in interest. He feels his cheeks warm, a light buzz tingling under his skin as he takes in the plump pink lips that part as their eyes meet, a soft gasp reaching his ears.
Yoongi feels winded, unable to breathe for a moment as the blondes' eyes soften, then widen the longer they keep eye contact. A deep yearning unfurls in Yoongi's chest, a need to be closer to the beauty before him, something he's never felt before. It scares him. Threatens to overtake his senses as a primal longing takes root deep in his bones.
💛
In this moment, Jimin feels stripped bare, his soul on display to the man before him. He feels truly seen for the first time in his life. His breath leaves him in short light bursts while butterflies erupt through his tummy. He's had boyfriends before, he knows what attraction feels like. Though this far surpasses any previous attraction he's had for another. Shaking his head lightly to regain his focus, he clears his throat.
"Is this seat taken", he asks, voice barely a whisper as the grip on his books tightens, pulling them closer to his chest self consciously while his head dips low, staring at his shoes.
"No it's - it's free", the stranger replies, moving to pull his bag from the vacant chair before dropping it to the ground at his feet. His ears twitch beneath his signature beanie, the soft sweet tone of the blonde's voice like a beautiful melody to his usually sensitive ears.
To say his low raspy drawl lit a spark in Jimin's chest would be an understatement. The deep timbre of his voice sets goosebumps breaking out over the blonde's flesh, a shiver shooting up his spine as a whispered "Thank you" leaves his slightly parted lips.
Pulling out his chair, he takes a seat. Turning to the stranger he says softly,
"I'm Jimin, it's nice to meet you".
Sharp eyes flick slowly from his eyes, to his throat, to the top of his head, confusion marring his features.
"Yoongi, I'm Yoongi", he finally responds, the pink tinge on his cheeks deepening slightly as a breathtaking smile breaks across Jimin's face.
"I hope we can be friends Yoongi-shi", he says shyly, his own cheeks glowing a soft peachy pink.
A chortle of laughter from behind them pulls Jimin's attention away.
"Yoongi doesn't do the whole friends thing, apart from us. Frankly I'm surprised he even let you sit next to him. No one even tries to sit next to him anymore".
An awkward silence ensues, Jimin's confused expression shoots between Yoongi and the one now introducing himself as Jin.
"Yoongi and I have been friends since preschool, this is Namjoon, and behind us is Hoseok, it's nice to meet you".
Jimin's mouth hangs open, his expression blank as he stammers out a confused,
"It's nice to meet you too, I think?".
An almost silent chuckle draws Jimin's attention back to the man next to him, a soft smile parting his lips at the sound. Yoongi smiles back at him bashfully, his eyes flicking away, unable to hold Jimin's gaze.
"Looks like Kitty's ready to make a new friend", Jimin hears from behind them, not missing the rigid set of Yoongi's form once the words reach him. One glare over his shoulder is all it takes for Hoseok to duck his head and mutter a sheepish "sorry". Yoongi clicks his tongue in slight agitation, fidgeting in his seat.
"Are you ok?"Jimin whispers, nudging his shoulder before leaning closer, tilting his head in an attempt to get a better look at the elder.
Yoongi's nostrils flare uncontrollably at Jimin's close proximity. His instincts take over as he takes in a long deep breath before closing his eyes and slumping slightly in his seat, the scent of mint and orange blossom soothing him instantly. His eyes snap open again instantly, sitting poker straight in his chair he cuts off the content purr that almost made its way past his lips.
Jimin startles at that, flinching in surprise before Yoongi's wide eyes meet his. A panicked "Sorry" escapes him while he tries desperately to reign in his instincts.
Jimin is both thoroughly endeared and flustered, fully intent on making friends with his bashful new classmate.
"It's ok don't worry", he replies, softly patting Yoongi's hand, urging him to release the death grip he has on the desk.
"What kind of art will we be doing this semester", he adds, trying to ease the heavy tension between them. And just like that, Yoongi visibly relaxes, adjusting his beanie while explaining the art history and theory behind this semester's studies, and the paired project due before mid term.
Their professor enters the class not long after, cutting their conversation short much to Jimin's disappointment. At the end of the day though, he feels openly optimistic at having chosen art, an idea already forming in his mind for who he wants to complete his project with. Gathering his belongings, he turns to Yoongi.
"It was really nice to meet you. I look forward to having more classes with you and getting to know you better", he admits softly, a light blush painting his plump cheek,
Yoongi tilts his head to the side, thoroughly surprised and endeared by Jimin's words.
"Yeah me too Jimin-shi", he replies, smiling softly at the blonde before ducking his head.
Parting ways, Jimin feels the butterflies in his tummy die down slightly, unable to wipe the smile from his face as he makes his way to the bus stop.
💛
The next three weeks pass relatively quickly. Jimin takes his seat beside Yoongi during each class, the elder helping him improve his brush strokes, showing him which shade of pencil is best for shading, giving him tips on shadow's and lighting. Jimin improves drastically under his guidance. Yoongi's soft, shy demeanor draws Jimin in. Slowly, much to his delight, the elders' witty sarcasm makes an appearance as Jimin patiently waits for him to grow more comfortable around him.
His patience pays off. Light banter turns to playful flirting. Light brushes of hands turn thighs brushing, resting warmly against each other. Parting ways after class turns to walking each other to the bus stop, or home on alternating days if they missed said bus.
After today's class, Jimin makes his way to the library in a daze. The memory of Yoongi's large warm palm resting on his lower back as he stood behind him has his knees trembling. Yoongi had taken Jimin's hand in his as he lightly helped him to flick and dab leaves on the tree he was painting. Yoongi's hot breath ghosting over the shell of his ear had him holding his own breath while his eyes closed. The light chuckle and low rumble of " Pay attention Jimin-ah" had a blush rising rapidly across his cheeks.
That same blush makes another quick appearance now just thinking about it as he makes his way towards the art history section of the library. In the farthest corner near a high window, he finds what he's looking for.
Rows of books on still life paintings stretch across the top shelf. Reaching up in his tip-toes he struggles to grasp the edge of the book he needs. Losing his footing, he stumbles backwards into a wall of hard warm muscle. Large strong hands grip his hips, long fingers gripping tight to steady him. Turning swiftly to thank his savior, his breath catches in his throat.
Yoongi's pupils dilate, round as saucers as soon as Jimin twists in his arms. Almost nose to nose, he swallows audibly while the blonde gasps, his cheeks flushing bright pink as he babbles bashfully,
"I couldn't reach the book and lost my balance".
"I can see that", Yoongi smirks, regaining his composure as Jimin's soft "Thank you" floats towards him in a breathless whisper.
"What book do you need, I'll get it", he volunteer's, picking at his thumbnail to occupy his hands, to stop them from reaching out to pull the blonde close to him once more.
Jimin, just as flustered, points to the book far out of both their reach, gasping in shock as Yoongi suddenly jumps. He grips the windowledge high above, stretching his free arm to reach the book. He grabs it with ease, dropping it into Jimin's waiting hands before landing softly on his feet. Turning on his heels, he leaves the blonde wide eyed and open mouthed where he stands.
Jimin gapes at him for a long moment, looking from the high out if reach window, to the bookshelf, to the man himself, now taking a seat at one of the low tables of the library. Rushing over as quietly as possible, he takes the seat beside Yoongi before whisper shouting,
"How the hell did you do that".
"What?, You needed the book, I wanted to help".
"I know but, that doesn't explain how you did that, so effortlessly".
"I'll explain another time Jiminah", Yoongi offers sheepishly, extending his hand toward the other. Jimin looks a little taken aback before a soft smile reaches his eyes. Placing his hand in Yoongi's, his smile falters seeing the look of confusion in the elders face.
Reaching forward with his free hand, Yoongi tugs the book gently from Jimin's grasp, waving it between them.
"Pairs project, I need this book too, remember?", he whispers into the quiet of the library, though he may have shouted it for all to hear with how stupid Jimin feels in that moment.
"I'm sorry. I thought you wanted to hold hands", he half chokes out, though he doesn't pull his hand away. Not when Yoongi replies with a low gravelly,
"I never said I didn't".
That's how Taehyung and Jungkook find them an hour later. Huddled together over a book, taking notes and planning their still life project, still hand in hand and oblivious to the world around them.
"What's going on here", Taehyung smiles, happy to finally have the opportunity to meet the man Jimin has spent the last three weeks telling them about.
"You must be Yoongi-shi, we've heard a lot about you".
"This is Yoongi?'' Jungkook questions, wide doe eyes smiling as he adds, "You're Namjoon hyungs hybrid friend right?.
Jimin gasps, turning to Yoongi in time to see in a panic, his pupils shrinking to narrow slits before widening into black pools, the kind Jimin imagines he would gladly drown in.
Before he can say a word Yoongi is on his feet, throwing books into his bag before muttering a rushed "I have to go" to the small group.
Jungkook looks painfully upset, gnawing at his bottom lip while clinging sadly to Taehyung's arm.
"What the fuck just happened", Jimin wonders aloud, looking between his friends and the door Yoongi had disappeared through, Yoongi and the jet black tip of a fluffy tail that had peeked out from underneath his coat. How had he never noticed it before. Though to be fair, they do spend most of their time seated in class.
"I'm guessing he hadn't told you yet that he's a hybrid". Taehyung asks softly, a sad smile making its way across his features as Jimin mouths a "No" to him.
"Some people look down on us still, you've seen how a minority treats hybrids. He might be worrying you think less of him now that you know".
"I would never think less of anyone for being a hybrid. They have feelings, and hearts, and minds of their own, I would never-
"We know that Jiminie", Taehyung soothes, "but he doesn't. Now that it's out in the open, you can show him that it changes nothing regarding your friendship, or whatever it is you two have going on", his best friend smirks.
"We don't have anything going on I don't know what you're talking about", Jimin whispers shouts, raising his hands in exasperation.
Jungkook giggles at that, tilting his head to the side he asks,
"Who are you trying to kid, we stood at that door for ten minutes, watching you hold his hand, brush his hair out of his eyes, all soft puppy eyes when he's not looking. You like him", Jungkook ends, confident in his observation of the pair. "He likes you too, going by what we saw", he adds, smiling at the blush that paints the blondes cheeks.
"We don't like each other in that way. We're friends?", Jimin insists, his heart rate picking up while his palms start to sweat, a nervous energy buzzing below the surface.
"Chim, he's known for keeping his distance from people. He's not at all affectionate, or at least he hasn't been until now. Why do you think that is? Look I'm sorry for ruining the moment, I never would have said anything if I'd known he hadn't spoken about it with you. I just got excited when I realized who he was". He finishes quietly, nibbling at his bottom lip.
"Were just friends, ok. We're comfortable around each other, it's not a big deal. I'll go find him. Just, don't feel bad koo, it was an honest mistake", Jimin whispers softly, rushing to gathering his belongings.
Saying his goodbyes to the younger pair, he makes his way out the door of the library, cursing the heavy rain that had begun to fall. Reaching back into his bag he pulls out an umbrella. With one goal in mind, he steps forward into the torrential downpour, intent on finding Yoongi and putting his mind at ease.
