Work Text:
Lux's irritation had been mounting over the last several weeks and had no signs of stopping. Hitting the station's gym helped somewhat, but there were only so many hours in a day she could sit there working out.
Two weeks.
That was how long it had been since she’d seen that goddamn bitch on the battlefield. Even in her absence she could still hear her annoying fucking laugh echo through space, causing Lux to mercilessly mow down any poor scrub that got in her way.
“Where the fuck has she been, goddamn piece of shit! She’s always making a beeline for me and I know she takes on missions just to fuck with me. Yet TWO GODDAMN WEEKS of fucking nothing for—”
*CRASH*
Lux stopped in surprise as the bar of the machine she’d been using came crashing down with a loud whine, unable to take her level of rage. She looked down at the crushed bar in her hands as new rage built up, standing up to throw the bar with an angry grunt.
“Fucking Jinx this is all your fault! Just you wait until I get my hands on you….”
—---—--—--—---—--—
Lux had first met her mortal enemy several years ago while running a fairly routine mission for the Piltover Enforcers, patrol squadrons that protected planet Piltover and the Lesser Moon Zaun from planetary invasion. She had been bored by the whole thing, given a dinky grunt suit that produced nowhere near the amount of power she liked. It was more likely to break down from her rough piloting, pushing it far past its limits, then under any actual enemy fire.
Her fun had started when a call came across the radio comms that command had spotted a small invading force made up of a mixture of mercenaries for hire and local pirates. Lux had thought nothing of it, having dealt with both enough times to have grown sick of dealing with them.
Never a challenge. They would crumple or turn tail long before she even worked up a sweat, leaving her a frustrated mess of half baked emotions. This time would be no different was all she could think with mounting annoyance.
That was until she spotted a rather eye catching mech suit, brightly coloured in various shades of neon blue and pink painted over top of the black base like spray graffiti. Her curiosity was peaked enough that she decided to go after it, hoping it would at least provide some level of challenge if the idiot piloting it was being that aggressively eye-catching.
What followed was one of the most intense fights she’d ever experienced since joining the forces. It hadn’t been helped that half way through the fight she noticed the pilot had begun attempting to talk to her on comm channel 45, which Lux made the unfortunate mistake of tuning into.
[Hehehe, you’re pretty good for a stupid Piltie! Though that ain’t saying much HAHAHA!]
[What’s that supposed to mean?]
[Huh? What’s not to get stuuuupid? You might be better than the typical Piltie, but that bar isn’t high y’know?]
Lux could feel her eyebrow begin to twitch as another bout of manic laughter blasted through the comm channel.
[Nothing to say back? Oh! Did I hurt your little fee-fees HAHA—]
[SHUT THE FUCK UP!]
She lunged her mech at the annoying little shit, laying blow after blow in her direction that were all dodged with only inches to spare.
[Jeeeeez lady, lighten up will ya! Supposed to have fun on the battlefield, not blow my eardrums out with your gorilla screech.]
[Just wait till I get my hands on you, you—]
[Whoop! Tag you’re it!]
Lux felt her mech give a shudder as the brightly coloured suit hopped over her suit, tapping its shoulder as it did before racing away. She sat there frozen at what had happened, beginning to shake as her rage welled up.
[Hello!? Gorilla lady, you’re supposed to chase me! Didn’t you play tag as a kid or were you a loner that never had anyone to play with? Ain’t that a bit sad, making me cry over here!]
Lux’s angry roar tore through space that battle, mixing together with the manic giggles of the woman that continued to goad her every chance she could. Not once was Lux able to take her down, annoyingly always one step ahead until eventually she came to a sudden stop and turned back.
[Man that was a lot of fun Gorilla Lady, but I gotta go now! They only paid me to stick around for a couple hours. See ya around HAHAHA!]
[What!? Get back here you little—]
[Toodles Gorilla Lady!]
With one last loud laugh the apparent mercenary bolted out of Lux’s reach, far too fast for her shitty grunt suit to catch up too.
That had been the start of their long rivalry that had lasted for over a year now.
—-------------------------------
It had taken Lux a while to actually figure out the name of the woman that kept tormenting her, but in character with the rest of her it was annoying to find out.
[Huh? You wanna know my name after all this time and didn’t even bother trying to figure it out on your own? That’s pretty sad there Luxy~~]
[Wait, how’d you figure out mine, you bitch!]
[Uuuuh, pretty easy information to find out ya know? Just had to ask what’s the name of the Gorilla they trained to pilot and your name came up instantly!]
[What the fuck did you just—]
[It’s Jinx, my name.]
Lux’s angry roar cut short at the sudden words that came across the comm channel, a wide grin spreading across her face as she processed it.
[Jinx huh? Hehehe, I’ll remember that.]
[Ooh Luxy~~ You hitting on me or something. You’re so forward~~]
[The only thing I’m hitting is your fucking face!]
[Woah, so much aggression~~]
[Get back here!]
[HAHAHAHA! Angry Gorilla Lady HAHAHA!]

It had now been three weeks since Lux had last met Jinx on the battlefield and now she was unable to even take her stress out at the station's gym, until she calmed down and stopped breaking things according to Lieutenant Vi.
“Not my fault that bitch won’t show up…..”
Lux could do little more than grumble to herself as she walked the halls of the station, noting with mounting annoyance how people would scatter upon seeing her coming their way. As if worried she’d suddenly snap and jump them in a fit of rage.
“Man this sucks, missions are really boring without her to bug the shit outta me….”
She found herself staring out of one of the side ports, releasing an exasperated sigh as she leaned against the glass. Lux had gotten so used to the constant teasing that a battlefield without it felt dull.
“It must be getting bad if I’m actually starting to miss her constant annoying taunting….”
[ALERT ALERT SCRAMBLE TO ENGAGE ALL PILOTS TO THE HANGERS]
A sudden PA announcement broke her from her gloomy thoughts, immediately replacing them with a welling sense of happiness. Surely Jinx would be there this time!
The same thought she had every other time she’d sortie’d in the last three weeks.
—--—--—--—--—--—--
Luck seemed to be on Lux’s side today as she spotted the familiar mech suit of Jinx quickly making its way across the battlefield.
[Alright, so our battle plan this time is to swing as a group from the left—]
[THERE YOU ARE FUCKING JINX!!]
Whatever battle plans Lieutenant Vi were trying to say were drowned out by the sudden yell of Lux as she bolted after the fast approaching figure of Jinx.
[Fuck sake, Lux! Didn’t I tell you to keep your shit talking to channel 45? You know she can’t hear you on this channel right?]
[Ah, s-sorry….]
Lux sputtered out an apology, quickly switching to channel 45, which had been designated ‘their’ channel after the 10th time they told other people to fuck off in unison when they tried to butt in. Immediately a mad laugh came from Lux.
[Where the fuck have you been you little shit!? Too scared to face me until now?]
[Ah, I was sick sorry~~]
[What….]
[Yeah, caught a really nasty bug and was just stuck in bed for weeks. Sucked majorly y’know?]
[YOU’VE BEEN SICK ALL THIS TIME AND I ONLY FIND OUT NOW!]
[Woah calm down Gorilla Lady! It’s not like I have your number or anything to tell you these things right?]
[Ah…..]
Lux felt a wave of embarrassment hit her at Jinx’s words, really how was she supposed to let her know? She suddenly got an idea that caused a loud laugh to erupt from her.
[Then how about I give you the number to my personal communicator? You can even let me know which battles you’ll be taking part in so I don’t have to waste my time getting excited if you aren’t even going to be there!]
[Woah, easier than I thought….]
[What was that? You’re talking too soft for it to pick up well.]
[Nothing! Just grabbing my personal communicator, keep it stashed away from my work one to not mix them up!]
Lux gave a snort at Jinx’s answer that sounded a little panicked as she leaned back in her chair while waiting. There was no point in her trying to get a sneak attack in while Jinx was busy, even if it meant she’d get a hit in something about it didn’t feel right.
[Alright, transferring it now! I’ll make sure to put you at the top with the nickname “Gorilla Lady” so I remember!]
[…..and I’ll make sure you’re at the top as “That Bitch” how’s that sound?]
[Eeeh, think you need to work on your nickname game Gorilla Lady, a little lacking in originality don’t you think?]
[…..]
Lux rapidly accelerated her mech towards Jinx’s suit, the previous feeling of not wanting to attack her long gone from her mind.
[Woah Woah, time out! I’m still trying to enter this! You don’t wanna accidentally end up as “Gorilla La~~” right? Ah! Woah! Stop the silent treatment Luxy~~ I’m sorry okay~~]
—--—--—--—--—--—--—--—-—-
Lux felt much more relaxed now that she knew ahead of time whenever Jinx was going to show herself, it took some of the stress away that used to build up in between missions back when she didn’t know. Her sudden upswing in mood didn’t go unnoticed and soon she found herself called to the office of Commander Caitlyn.
Of course, Lieutenant Vi was also there for some reason, but it was such a common sight to see her hanging out in the Commander’s office that nobody said anything.
“Commander!”
“At ease Ensign Lux, this is an off the record discussion. I’m just curious as to what has caused your sudden…..good mood.”
“Must be drugs, no way someone like Lux can mellow out so much without them.”
“Vi! Please ignore her and have a seat, Lux.”
Nervously, Lux took a seat across from Lieutenant Vi who was lazily lounging, a wide smirk appearing on her face as she turned her gaze towards her.
“We haven’t heard you screaming about Jinx that often anymore, nor have you rampaged through the gym lately either. What gives Lux?”
“Ah well, a couple missions ago Jinx and I swapped personal numbers so she’s been letting me know what her next jobs are in advance. Let me know the dates and who she’s working for so I can see if it’s someone we’re up against….”
Lieutenant Vi’s eyes bugged out of her skull at Lux’s words before aggressively leaning closer to her, the lazy air completely gone from her.
“Wait! You managed to get Jinx’s personal number? I’m her own sister and I don’t have it! Every time I send her something through her business number she just ignores it! How’d you get it, tell me!?”
“W-well when she was gone for three weeks she was apparently sick, then I suggested swapping numbers so I’d know next time and—HANG ON!? Jinx is your sister!?”
“I think the two of you are ignoring the more serious fact that Jinx is intentionally leaking sensitive information to you by telling you so many details about her jobs……”
Caitlyn’s tired muttering was lost in the whirlwind of noise in front of her.
—--—-—--—---—--—--—---—--—
After it had come out that Lux had Jinx’s personal number, Lieutenant Vi proceeded to bug her endlessly for it. She never used her position as her superior to force it, but she was really fucking annoying about it.
"C'mon Lux buddy, I haven’t talked to her in years!"
"Then ask her!"
"She just ignores meeeee, c'mon I won't tell her it was you! She’ll never know! It’ll be our secret!"
"Like shit she wouldn't!"
"Then can ya ask her for me, pretty please?"
"If it'll get you to stop fucking bugging me ever single time you see me then fine!"
"Ah, I knew I could count on you!"
Lieutenant Vi ran off with a wave, leaving Lux standing annoyed at the thought of having to ask Jinx of all people for a favour. With a heavy sigh she pulled out her personal communicator and began typing out a message, hoping it wouldn’t be that awful trying to get it.
[Lux: Jinx, your sister won’t stop bugging me for your stupid number.]
[Annoying Jinx: Ahahaha, yeah I’ve been giving her the slip for years. You can give it to her.]
[Lux: Good to know so she’ll get off my back.]
[Annoying Jinx: BUT! I want something out of this. Hehehe >:)]
[Lux: ?]
[Annoying Jinx: Let’s meet up, outside the battlefield this time.]
[Lux: That’s it?]
[Annoying Jinx: Yup! What do you say Luxy~~ Ain’t that bad a trade right?]
[Lux: Sure.]
[Lux: ?]
[Lux: What’s with the sudden silence?]
[Annoying Jinx: Nothing! Just a sudden work call I totally needed to take! Really urgent and all!]
[Lux: Oh okay. Where do you want to meet?]
[Annoying Jinx: How about that new space port that just opened? I don’t have any jobs for the next while so any day’s good.]
[Lux: Sure.]
They spent a little longer working out the details, Jinx being oddly well behaved compared to normal when it came to her teasing. Lux couldn’t really understand, but decided it wasn’t worth commenting on since Jinx would likely get annoying about it.
—---—--—--—-—--—-
Day of the meet-up
Tiny.
That was Lux’s first thoughts upon finally meeting the woman that had tormented her for years over comms. Lanky was the second thought, looking like Jinx had never hit the gym once in her entire life. What stood out past that was her bright blue hair done up into two braids and the trailing blue cloud tattoos that wrapped down her right arm with an unknown endpoint on her waist.
Her observation was only broken by a rather loud gulping noise from Jinx, who herself had frozen upon finding out she was Lux, whatever playful teasing she had prepared dying on her tongue.
“Is something wrong Jinx?”
“Ah, n-no just …..y-you’re pretty good looking for a gorilla human hybrid!”
“……That so.”
Lux’s dry response seemed to have caught Jinx off guard, likely expecting some kind of raging freak out going off how she’d tensed to flee, only for nothing to happen.
“What, nothing even after mentioning the whole gorilla thing? No raging? Threatening to break me in half?”
“…I can’t get any motivation to. You’re so….. puny outside your mech.”
“Well sorry for being puny, we can’t all be buff gorillas that spend all day working out!”
“Mmmhmm.”
It seemed that Jinx’s attempts at teasing had begun to backfire with her refusing to take the bait, ending up the fuming mess instead, glaring up at the incredibly smug looking Lux.
“We should meet up more often if this is how they’ll all go, I’m having fun.”
“W-Well not for long you won’t because if you want Vi to get my precious number you’re gonna do something super embarrassing for me!”
Jinx recomposed herself slightly, pointing up at Lux with a mischievous grin.
“To get it you gotta k-kiss me! And on the lips too! No chickening out with a kiss on the cheek! HAHAHAHA—”
“That’s it? Okay.”
“Wait wh—”
She began to bend down before finding it too bothersome and simply decided to pick up the rigid Jinx, raising her up easily with how little she weighed and firmly planting a kiss on her lips. Giving a satisfied nod she pulled back, spotting the face of pure shock on Jinx that was quickly replaced by a painful looking red blush.
“I…I..didn’t—”
“Hmmm? Wait, was that your first kiss Jinx?”
Just a single nod was her response, to which Lux let out a monstrous laugh that turned every nearby head in their direction, unwilling to stop even as Jinx desperately tried shushing her in a panic.
“Does that mean you haven’t dated anyone either?”
“N-No! …..Well okay yeah so what!?”
Her anger couldn’t hide the panicked embarrassment, only making Lux smugger.
“Nothing just…hehehe. Must suck at flirting is all.”
“Not my fault you’re so incredibly dense—AH!”
Lux’s eyebrow rose, unable to understand what she was getting at and Jinx in no state to elaborate in her now frenzied state as waves of embarrassment washed over her. Finally it clicked and the rage that Jinx had been desiring the entire time was unleashed.
“Are you trying to tell me your endless shitty teasing was your god awful attempt at flirting!? All the shitty puns!? All the intentional provocations!?”
“Holy shit I can feel my bones creaking, stop squeezing me or I’m gonna snap! Gorilla Lady, your strength is insane!”
Quickly she dropped Jinx to the ground, heavy breaths coming from her as her vision tinged red, the girl making it worse the second she opened her fucking mouth.
“Hey c’mon, we all tease the one we love right? Maybe it’s more of a you thing being unable to pick it up after all these years. Like—Woah wait what’s with that look!? Woah Luxy calm down!”
Her raged filled yell rang through the station as she pounced on Jinx, who dodged annoyingly to the side, not knowing when to shut the fuck up in her teasing.
“Woah someone get the tranq darts stat, we got a mad gorilla over he—Shit!”
It took practically the entire security force of the new space station to eventually subdue the rampaging Lux tearing through the place after a madly giggling Jinx, both ending up with a lifetime ban from ever returning.
—------------------------------
Many weeks later
Somehow the two of them ended up dating after that, much to Lux’s own personal confusion as to why. Jinx was still an annoying shit, but something about learning her teasing was largely just awful attempts at flirting softened her irritation.
Currently Lux was waiting idly for Jinx to show up, having lured her out with talks of going on a date, something the girl always jumped at. Too bad for her it likely wasn’t what she was thinking it would be.
“Hey Hey Luxy~~ Where are we — wh-what’s with the gym bag!? Wait, stop, don’t come any closer nooooo!”
“ We’re having a gym date Jinx. If we’re ever going to get more….. intimate you need to bulk up first or I’ll be too worried about breaking you.”
“I-Intimate….! No…b-but the gym noooo…”
Jinx continued to struggle in her iron grip the entire way into the beginner gym Lux had found, acting like a cat about to have a bath they really didn’t want, even if the idea of them progressing their relationship had piqued her interest.
“Y-You sure you ain’t some cyborg woman!? How can you be this solid!? Like I’m wrapped in a steel beam!”
“It’s called Muscle Jinx, maybe you should try getting them.”
“Don’t lie to me, this ain’t just a case of muscles! What the fuck, are you actually a gorilla hybrid!?”
“.......”
“Ow Ow, don’t squeeze meeee–Ouchie!”
Lux stopped in front of one of the machines, unceremoniously dropping Jinx to the ground along with her bag, pinning the girl with her stare before she could open her mouth.
“ Jinx , let me show you how to actually flirt.”
“Wh-What do you—oh man ….”
Her protest stopped with a loud gulp as Lux stripped off her hoodie and baggy sweat pants to reveal her normal workout attire of tight shorts along with a sleeveless top.
“Let’s get exercising shall we ?”
“.....S-Sure thing…”
It only took a single session for Jinx to get hooked on the idea of gym dates, helped along by Lux not being awful at flirting like she was.
