Work Text:
The push and pull of the time flow made his head swim, eyes blurred by the spinning light and shadows spinning around him. Once everything came to a stop, he was face first on an unfamiliar ground. Despite his disorientation, he slowly raises his head and peers around at his surroundings. Nothing was even distinctly familiar, from the buildings to sky above. Pushing himself up onto his cybernetic elbows, Fulgur felt a strange calm fall over him.
“Heh…so time travel is the real deal? Hahahaha!” The laugh that escaped him sounded pathetic to his own ears.
The silence that followed wasn’t the least unsettling as he sat himself up. Something about this time he had ended up in brought a strange calm to wash over him. No explosions, gunfire, people screaming, and death all around. It was peaceful, so unlike his own timeline that he had accidentally escaped. It was so quiet, like the area he was in was either abandoned or sleeping. He carefully raises to his feet, making sure his body could move without feeling any instability or nausea.
“Well, guess it’s time to find out what’s in this timeline.” he mutters, as he looks around once more.
Taking a step, he loses his footing almost falling off the side of the building he didn’t realize he was standing on. It was startling, but he easily caught himself due to his quick reflexes. He quickly lets himself drop onto a balcony just below him, gaining momentum to jump again to land on stable ground. It was surprising now that no one saw or heard him, there wasn’t a soul anywhere nearby. It was still very quiet, which seemed pretty unnatural for what looked like a decent feeling.
The sound of water reaches his ears, a couple of drops but then several falling in unison. Rain began to fall all around the cyborg, feeling cold to his skin. He turned to see if he could find any shelter within the current area. Seeing a small park just a little ways away, Fulgur hurried over as the rain began to pour down heavily. Ducking under the playground, he notes the obvious holes in the equipment but pays it no mind. His clothes and hair had been soaked in a matter of minutes, causing him to sigh in frustration.
‘Great. Now how am I going to deal with these wet clothes?’ he wondered as he shook out his damp hair.
Leaning back against one of the pillars holding the play equipment upright, he looks out at the falling rain. It had been a very long time since he had seen true rainfall. The toxins and pollution that clouded his prior world had damaged the balance of earth and weather alike. The sound was somewhat a comfort, reminding him that all of the horrible war and death was behind him. The sudden sound of splashing and running caught his attention, turning as a figure entered his line of sight. Suddenly, A young man was beside him taking cover from the downpour. His clothes were peculiar, showing signs of a different age much like his own.
“Dammit… Did it seriously have to start pouring out of nowhere?” the young man groaned, shaking the jacket he was wearing.
The hood he was wearing slips down, revealing short messy purple hair that fading into magenta. His skin was a little pale, possibly due to the fact he was soaked by the rain. Suddenly mismatched purple and magenta eyes met his pale white ones, startled with a slight hint of fear hidden beneath. When he begins to slowly back away, the young man slips due to the wet ground from his boots. Out of reflex, Fulgur catches him by his wrist and pulls him back as he wraps his arm around his waist to stabilize him.
Silence surrounded them aside from the pitter patter of the rain falling as they stood there. The cyborg mentally kicked himself for reacting so easily to the young man’s fall, especially since he was a complete stranger. Feeling how stiff he had become from being touched, Fulgur slowly released him making sure he wouldn’t fall again.
“Best be careful. The rain makes everything slippery.” he tells him, motioning to the water that has been pooled by them from their wet clothes.
“Ah, right… Thanks I guess…” the young man replies softly, hugging himself a bit as he tries to suppress a shiver.
Noticing this, Fulgur lets out a sigh as he feels the air grow colder around them. He picks up the jacket that he had dropped, holding it out to the young man before him.
“Here, you’re going to catch a cold.” he explains, motioning for him to take it.
“Uki…” the young man mumbles, quickly taking his jacket back and pulling it on.
“I’m sorry?”
“My name…” the young man sighs, looking at him with an annoyed look. “Uki Violeta. What about you?”
Fulgur looked surprised by the sudden attitude change, a questioning look painting his face.
“Fulgur. Fulgur Ovid. Pleasure to meet you, Uki.” he responds with a slight smile.
The cyborg holds out his hand to Uki, trying to create a comfortable setting for the both of them. Uki looks a bit more at ease, seeing that he wasn’t an immediate threat to him. Slowly reaching out his own hand, Fulgur noted his black nails and thin wrists with faded scars that resembled several forms of restraints. Once their hands meet in a quick handshake, Uki makes a face at him before pulling his hand back.
“Your hands are freezing!” he complains, rubbing his hands together to warm them.
Fulgur couldn’t help the laugh that escaped him, finding clear amusement in the young man’s reaction to touching his cybernetic limbs. Uki obviously wasn’t pleased by his reaction, but visibly relaxed soon after. His mismatched eyes still held wariness, but a small smile pulled at his lips as he softly chuckled.
“I suppose I should have mentioned that I’m a cyborg. Sorry about that.” Fulgur says, calming his laughter to not offend the other man any further.
“Then I suppose we’re in the same bind. You don’t look like you’re from around here either.” Uki comments, pulling his jacket closer as the wind blows through.
Fulger looked surprised, but after some thought he realized that the time travel he had experienced could have affected other timelines. Considering the vast amount of different times there was, it wasn’t impossible.
“By your statement, I’m going to take a guess and say you’re from the future as well.” His words were calm and open to any argument.
“Yep. And I can tell you are. Nothing in this time is as advanced as a cyborg, so your appearance is out of place.” Uki tells him, sighing a bit.
“Before we continue, we probably should find a better place to get out of the rain. It doesn’t look like it’s going to let up soon.”
Fulgur looks out into the rain as he crosses his arms across his chest, knowing he was probably right. The clouds above were very dark and didn’t show any signs of dispersing anytime soon. He wasn’t used to the rain, but staying in it could cause them both to get sick. Turning back to Uki, he uncrosses his arms with a smile.
“Let’s go then. The longer we stay out here, the more likely we’ll get sick.”
And with that they two rushed out into the pouring rain, staying close to not lose each other.
End.
