Work Text:
“C’mon Darling, or we’ll be late for the show!”
“I’m coming, sweetheart, these old bones don’t move like they used to, you know?”
“Oh, come now, you’ve barely begun your life. Now, let’s go before we miss Mettaton’s debut on the surface.”
“Alright, alright..”
________________
I wonder what could have been if I’d known you’d end up like this so soon.
________________
“Gaster, what do you think you’re doing?”
“Oh, nothing dear! Just eh, working on some notes for the lab.”
“Notes, huh? Well then, mind if I read them?”
“NO! I mean, they’re top secret. Yes, secret.”
“If you say so, Gasty.”
“Gasty..?”
________________
Perhaps I could have done more, seen more with you.
________________
“What- What are you..?”
“Y/n, when I first met you in Waterfall, drenched and looking for a place to stay, I thought to myself that I must have finally passed on and met an angel to take me away. You are my starlight, and the only one my soul yearns for and ever will for this eternity. You may not even realize it, but I was completely enraptured by you since day one. So, Y/n, my darling, will you make me the happiest skeleton alive and marry me?”
“..Y/n?”
“......YES! Oh, Gaster, a million times yes, you doofus!”
________________
Maybe if I’d seen the signs, and tried harder to stop it.

“Say, Gaster, don’t monsters live, like, much longer than humans do?”
“Yes, why do you ask?”
“Oh, er, no reason I suppose.. Just a random thought. Let’s go get some nicecream, like the good ol’ days.”
“That sounds like a wonderful idea, darling.”

Would you have been happy to live alongside me for so many years, though, even if I had been able to do anything? Perhaps I’m looking too far into it.
_______________
“Oh goodness, darling, are you alright? That seemed like quite the fall.”
“I’m fine, Gasty. Just my knees acting up on me as usual.”
“Are you sure you do not want to see Alphy’s? She could find a remedy for it, perhaps?”
“Oh, no, there’s no remedy for this dear. Let’s just keep going to Sans and Papyrus’ place. I want to see my baby boys.”
“If you are so sure, then I suppose it’s alright.”
_______________
This is my 248th note to you, darling. Sometimes, I can still hear you sing your song in the echo flowers.
_______________
“Starlight, I’ve brought you your favorite flowers. I hope you like them, and I have also brought our sons with me this time.”
“HELLO, MOTHER! I HOPE YOU ARE FARING WELL THIS AFTERNOON.”
“ ‘sup mom. how’s the nurses treating you?”
“Oh, they are treating me just fine. You both still look as healthy as ever, I’m glad. I’m sorry I can’t be out there with you.”
“ DON’T APOLOGIZE, IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT!”
“Yes, we are just happy that you are doing well, darling.”
“just do us a favor and don’t push yourself, alright?”
_______________
Sans and Papyrus still visit your grave every week. Papyrus leaves a plate of spaghetti and Sans tells a new knock knock every time to you.
______________
“Gaster, can you do me a favor?”
“Of course, anything for you darling.”
“Take care of them for me, when I’m gone. Make sure Papyrus doesn’t burn down any houses and Sans eats something besides ketchup.”
“Darling..? Of course I will, but what are you-”
“Dear, you’ve made me the happiest I have ever been in my life. You gave me a reason to breathe, and a family to love and care for. Thank you, so much. I hope with all of my heart that we can meet again in another life, my love. I love you to the moon and back.”
“Darling..?”
“.......Y/n?”
“Y/N?!”
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

PS.. Happy Birthday, starlight. I hope these messages reach you wherever you are now. I shall write to you again on your next birthday, as I always have and will.
-Love,
W.D. Gaster.
