There were multiple types of soulmate marks, symbols, initials, names and more, the research of soulmates was still going on.
Tommy got his soulmate mark at twelve it was initials, (R.B) with a white outline around, indicating he had a platonic soulmate,. He heard that some people never got soulmate marks, the idea of that was scary to him.
One strange thing he always noticed was how the mark would change colour.
After going to a soulmate doctor, they figured it was a new thing they had to take records on, so Tommy had to find his soulmate in order for them to understand for sure.
Tommy hoped it wasn't anything bad, some people's soulmates could hear some of their thoughts, which sounded pretty invasive to him.
-IN YEAR 9-
Moving sucked.
Ranboo didn't know anyone here, Niki was sick so she couldn't be here, she had told him to find a 'Wilbur' or 'Tommy' though.
He shrugged, he noticed two guys one with brunet hair and glasses and another with blond hair and a crochet beanie.
He walked towards the two,
"Hi, do you guys know a- know a Niki?" He asked nervously.
He hated talking to people, but he better get it over with.
"Niki Nihachu Beloved? Yeah?" The brunet one nodded.
"Yeah, I'm her brother, She said I should find you two?" Ranboo scratched the back of his head.
"Oh yeah! Wilbur, Niki said we should guide him remember?" The blond one pointed out.
Wilbur? Wilbur nodded, "You need to get a timetable first, go to the principal's office it's there," he pointed.
Ranboo nodded and walked to the office near at the end of the hallway.
-
"Will? My soulmate mark was glowing more vibrant just now," Tommy raised an eyebrow as he looked at his wrist.
"Maybe your soulmate is close?" Wilbur suggested.
Tommy shrugged.
-
"What's your name by the way?" Tommy asked, "Niki mentioned it, but I forgot."
"Ranboo."
Tommy snorted,"Ranboob."
Ranboo groaned, "Why?"
Wilbur ignored Tommy, "You're in the same year as this gremlin child, year 9, right?"
"Man," Tommy corrected.
"Right, sorry, you're in year 9 right, the same grade as this gremlin Man-child right?" Wilbur smirked as Tommy punched his backpack.
"Yep!" Ranboo answered.
"Pass me your schedule Ranboob," Tommy said.
Ranboo sighed and gave Tommy the schedule.
"Math... English," Tommy read, "Right, we have all subjects together but one together, you have history with Beau."
"Beau is basically the same as Tommy, be careful," Wilbur warned Ranboo.
Tommy groaned.
The bell rung, Wilbur waved the duo off, Tommy linked arms with Ranboo and showed him the way to math.
Ranboo had been officially adopted by an extrovert.
-
They arrived to math, Tommy was bored, he wasn't even doing his work, there was a substitute teacher after all so he didn't see the point.
He sketched little mushrooms and faces on his math book, he glanced at Ranboo, they were on the same table, he was doing some calculations and math stuff.
Tommy noticed initials on Ranboo's wrist.
"T.I.M," Tommy mumbled, he noticed the mark change colour, like how his did, Tommy shrugged he looked at Ranboo's eyes, he had one brown eye and one green eye.
He also had curly hair that fell over his eyes somewhat.
Tommy decided to draw him as a cartoon elf.
Tommy poked Ranboo, "Ranboo what's your favourite flower?" He asked.
"Alliums I think," Ranboo answered with a smile.
The R on Tommy's mark was a light calming blue while the B was a yellow, it was kind of bright.
Wilbur's idea of his soulmate being close, seemed believable.
Tommy shrugged and sketched flowers around Ranboo's headshot.
Math was going to end in twenty minutes.
Tommy looked at Ranboo's soulmate mark again, it had a grey to light blue gradient.
Could it be?
No, he just met this guy he can't just talk about soulmates and shit, but he was so sure, maybe he could finally get the colour thing sorted.
Tommy slid down his seat waiting for the class to end.
-
BREAK
Ranboo and Tommy walked towards the school garden, there were two people who looked similar at the fountain, Wilbur was talking to a bald guy.
There was a person with a red beanie sitting next to someone with pink hair.
Tommy noticed his R.B mark turn a dark-ish purple, Tommy also felt a bit nervous for some reason?
'Could be a soulmate thing,' he thought.
"Ranboo are you good?"
"Yeah just a bit nervous, I don't do well with people," Ranboo laughed nervously.
Tommy narrowed his eyes, there was no way that was a coincidence, he'd ask Ranboo about that later.
"Don't worry these people might be annoying but they're nice," Tommy reassured him, and took a glance at his wrist, the colour lightened a bit.
-
Ranboo's first day at school was complete, it wasn't as bad as he thought it was, and Tommy had stuck with him throughout the day.
Tommy was a nice guy, he was loud but really nice with his friends.
-
Over the course of two weeks Ranboo and Tommy had become close, despite only having known each other for two weeks.
Tommy still had a lot to learn about Ranboo, (and if he was his soulmate!).
-
Ranboo walked to school alone this time , ever since three weeks ago, (the day after he started going to this school), Tommy said they should walk together since they lived around the same street.
Tommy usually got ready earlier than Ranboo, but he seemed like he was late.
Ranboo continued walking to school, he heard someone running behind him.
"Ranboo, sorry I woke up late," Tommy panted.
Ranboo's mark was grey, he was guessing his soulmate was tired at the moment, he looked at Tommy and wondered if...
Tommy snapped his fingers.
"Right, it's fine, lets keep going," Ranboo beamed.
-
Ranboo hated presentations, doing big things in front of people made him anxious a lot of the time, he didn't know why he felt this way, all his friends were able to do presentations alone they could even make the class laugh.
They had an English presentation, it was individual work too, the teacher had given them one day to prepare yesterday.
Ranboo had asked for permission to go to the bathroom, he instead walked to the library.
-
Tommy fiddled with his pen, the English presentation was today, school and presentations sucked, sure he could do them but his English teacher despised him anyways so he wasn't going to get a good grade at all.
Two people had done their presentations so far in the last thirty minutes, Ranboo still wasn't back for some reason.
Tommy noticed that his mark was a dark blue to purple gradient, he noticed an emblem for a tear next to it.
"Miss, can I go to the bathroom please?" Tommy asked.
She rolled her eyes and let him go.
Tommy flipped her off when she turned her back and ran out.
-
Tommy had noticed that his soulmate mark tended to get brighter if he was near his soulmate, he optimized this to the best of his abilities.
He ran to the bathroom, the mark got duller.
He walked to the library, that was Ranboo's comfort place.
(Ranboo had said the books, computers, warmth and comfort made him happy when he went there).
The mark got slightly brighter he went to the corner of the library, Ranboo was there sitting on the floor hidden by the bookshelves and beanbags.
He had his knees up to his chest and his head resting on his knees.
Tommy could hear sobs.
"Ranboo, hey," Tommy whispered.
Ranboo looked up at Tommy.
"Hi," he mumbled, he was still breathing heavily.
"Can you try to take deep breathes?" Tommy suggested.
Ranboo nodded, and try to slow his breathing, he struggled a bit and panicked slightly, "I'm sorry," he mumbled.
"What are you sorry for?"
"..."
"There's nothing to be sorry for," he sat next to Ranboo, their fingers intertwined, Tommy gave Ranboo a squeeze, reminding him he was there.
"Do you know why you-"
"Presentation."
"Oh."
Tommy stood up, Ranboo looked up, he walked away and came back with a box of tissues, he passed Ranboo some.
Tommy put an arm around him.
Ranboo's breathing reverted back to normal slowly, he was still tense but he was getting better.
"Ranboo, you know you can tell me when you're feeling-"
"Yeah I know, how did you know anyways?" Ranboo asked.
"Well uh, my soulmate mark was blue to purple and it kind of showed a tear symbol so..."
"Oh," Ranboo mumbled, "So... we really are platonic soulmates then."
Tommy fake cried, "I can't believe this I'm soulmates with a Ranboob."
Ranboo rolled his eyes and snorted, "Well the yellow mark on my hand clearly tells a different story."
Tommy covered his face, but Ranboo could clearly see a smile.
-
Only four months passed, and the two were practically inseparable, the soulmate doctor had recorded this case, since they seemed to be the first people to have the emotion sensing thing.
Tommy was almost always at the Beloved house, Niki always had something prepared for him, Ranboo was also almost always at the Minecraft house for 'homework' in reality the duo would play games and talk for hours.

Tommy burst through the door, he saw Ranboo laying on the chair Tommy wagged his finger at him as if he was a dog who did something wrong.
Ranboo raised an eyebrow.
"I need you to help me study for Math!" Tommy announced.
Niki rolled her eyes at Tommy fondly from the kitchen.
"The test is on Monday and our teacher told us about it LAST Monday, why the hell haven't you studied?" Ranboo folded his arms.
Tommy laughed nervously and scratched his head, "Because, I, Tommy Innit Minecraft, Mr Beloved am a procrastinator, but please, please can you help?"
"Fine," Ranboo sighed and put away his solved Rubik's cube.
Tommy felt Ranboo's annoyed aura and smirked.
It was his job to harass his best friend.
The two sat and studied for hours.
"Tommy."
"Yes Ranbus?"
"I am never helping you study ever again."
"Aw..." Tommy frowned jokingly.
Ranboo sighed, "I hate you."
Although Tommy's mark was a green-ish yellow, which meant Ranboo was annoyed.
But the plain happy yellow told another story.
