Work Text:
‘’C’mon Barbatos!’’ A young man was running through the fields, laughing while being closely followed by the one he called, a wind spirit. Barbatos flew through the Cecilias, chasing the bard happily. Both eventually stopped to rest and the spirit took that chance to pin a Cecilia into the bard’s cape, not knowing that it would soon be tainted by blood.
‘’Hey! I'm not that young Barbatos! I can perfectly take a bit of alcohol’’ The youngster exclaimed, a bit furious that his close friend wouldn’t let him take a sip of the flask he held. The other simply smiled mischievously before commanding a little wave of wind to knock out the drink from the hand holding it so tight. ‘’Hey!’’ Barbatos just smiled innocently ‘’ehe’’.
‘’If this was a dream, then at least I've got, memories for when morning comes…’’ With his loyal friend at his side, the bard sang for a better era and a better Mondstadt. Many listened to his songs, feeling the passion that the juvenile expressed for freedom.
He witnessed the fall of Decarabian with a serene face, finally, finally, Mondstadt was free. No more tyranny and no more chains, he was just upset that he wouldn't be able to see what he had fought so hard for. Propped up by his red-headed friend he let out his last breath finally in peace.
2600 years later a not-so-young bard was singing a song in the famous Angel’s Share, honouring his most peaceful warrior and his most loyal friend.
There will come a poet
Whose weapon is His word
He will slay you with His tongue
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord
He will slay you with His tongue
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord
‘’A puppet is something that is controlled, that is attached by strings to its master, and cannot set itself free. You were never a puppet Scaramouche, because you cut your strings; spread your wings, and flew away from your nest.’’ Ei looked up towards where she knew Celestia resided. ‘’I let you go so that you could live a normal life, yet you thought I abandoned you, and feel hatred towards me, I hope you are safe, wherever you are now.’’
Sitting on a cliff was a short man holding an artifact to the void, purple electricity flowing through it. Long ago he had seen it in the hands of who he could have called mother, but no more. He had been betrayed and left at the doors of Inazuma with his powers sealed. A spark suddenly flew out and Scaramouche let go of the object sending it far away into the grass. However, the damage was already made. Thin purple veins started to grow from the hand that had previously held to the gnosis and spread through his body at an alarming rate, they were glowing and breaking his artificial skin into chips that fell.
The death of the 6th Harbinger didn't affect many, the Fatui turned their backs on him, having announced him rogue, and a traitor, they simply took the gnosis and left. The other nations did not care for Fatui Harbingers, and the traveler did not trust him enough to visit his funeral, not that he had one.
His broken body was collected by an anguished archon, who saddened put him in a black and purple casket. Nobody was there except her, who while closing the lid, sang.
The evil it spread like a fever ahead
It was night when you died, my firefly
What could I have said to raise you from the dead?
Oh could I be the sky on the Fourth of July?
Did you get enough love, my little dove
Why do you cry?
And I'm sorry I left, but it was for the best
Though it never felt right
Morax’s closest companion and the Goddess of Dust in Liyue, Guizhong, was kind-hearted and wise, astute and patient. A perfect combination for the one who was nicknamed the god of War, Morax. She was always close to her people, choosing to help them and interact with them, always trying to bring the other god to her little adventures. She taught him how to know his people and talk with them, socialising was one of her fortes after all.
Mixing her wisdom with her mind she created amazing machines for the war, even if she was very adamant about wanting peace she did her best to protect Guili and help Morax. Such a lively girl she was that she stole something precious from a god. A heart.
Morax was supposed to meet Guizhong when Osial attacked, He immediately ran to the battle to protect the Assembly, little did he know that Guizhong was doing the same thing. When he got there Osial had destroyed part of the Guili Plains, Guizhong although not as strong as other gods tried her best, but she couldn't keep up and died. Morax ran to her but she simply smiled, looking towards the Glaze Lilies close by. The goddess asked Morax to forget about the stone dumbbell she gave him long ago, not knowing that the Archon of Contracts had a little wooden box in a pocket and inside it held a small ring, with part of the stone embedded in the center, he had wanted to ask her for marriage.
3,700 had passed and now Zhongli, no longer Morax nor Rex Lapis, still kept that ring. Always remembering the memory of a brunette sweet woman, that would smile at him and lead him towards the festivities that the citizens held for their gods.
I wonder what will happen
If we went back and put up a fight
'Cause once upon a time you were my everything
It's clear to see that time hasn't changed a thing
So, just what do you think could ever take you off my mind
I'll never forget you
And you'll always be by my side
From the day that I met you
I knew that I would love you 'til the day I die
And I will never want much more
And in my heart I will always be sure
I will never forget you
And you'll always be by my side 'til the day I die
All his life Kaeya had been left aside, by his parents because of their work, by his knight because of his duties, and by Diluc at the end, he was also abandoned, because of his origins. But, there was one who never did, Crepus. Mater Crepus was a kind-hearted, loving, and humble man. Even if he held his work high, he kept his family higher. No matter if he was on a trip, or the other side of Teyvat, he was always there if something happened to Kaeya (or Diluc). He always kept his promises and fulfilled them.
And even better, he knew of Kaeya’s mission. He was mature enough to know that finding a young boy on a rainy day and in the territory of one of the most important families of Mondstadt was no coincidence. Though he never actually knew it for sure, he suspected it.
Kaeya never said thank you to him, not that he wouldn't, he just couldn't. He wasn’t used to it. But now on this grave that held the name of a man capable of sacrificing himself for the sake of his son, he wished he had. He deserved it after all. For putting up with a cursed child, for putting up with his antics, for teaching him the language used in Mondstadt, and for giving him a family. For all of that and more.
He knew Diluc hated him, but he also knew that Crepus would never.
I'm still holding on to everything that's dead and gone
I don't wanna say goodbye 'cause this one means forever
Now you're in the stars and six feet's never felt so far
Here I am alone between the heavens and the embers
Oh, it hurts so hard for a million different reasons
You took the best of my heart and left the rest in pieces
