Chapter Text
The male interviewer assessed me, looking me up and down with approval. He smiled at the woman who was also interviewing me and she nodded in agreement.
"Yup! You're perfect." He said with a pleased smile.
"Not sure what my body has to do with being a secretary." I frowned.
"Oh! Well, with your physique it'll be easier to dispel certain scandals."
"...what?"
"Not to say you aren't a pretty young woman just...y'know!" He said with a nervous laugh.
I sighed, mentally going back and forth on whether I just wanted to end the interview right here. Currently, I was sitting in one of the meeting rooms of one of the top agencies in the country. The fact that I was sitting here meant the ad was legit but the more I interacted with these two the more I questioned whether this whole thing was worth it.
When I saw the ad to be Dynamight's assistant I could've sworn it was a scam. The salary was way above industry standard and the benefits were downright legendary. Applying to this was akin to throwing my hat in the ring for the lottery. Probably not gonna happen but it would be pretty cool if it did. However, given how disrespectful these interviewers were, the ad seems more believable.
"Your skills seem to line up with the duties required for this job. However, before we make a decision we'd like to do a field test." He said.
No regard for my time. Way too comfortable commenting on my body. Asking for free labor. Already three red flags.
But the salary...
Even if it was just for a few months. If I saved most of that paycheck I could go vacationing abroad if I wanted to. Doesn't mean I'm gonna be a total pushover of course.
"Only if the field test is compensated." I said.
"This is an opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes of hero work. It's a priceless experience!" He huffed.
I stared at him long enough for him to start squirming before I leaned forward, put my arms on the table, and gave him my most professional smile.
"While I appreciate the opportunity I think I wil-"
"Wait!" She panicked. "Of course, we'll compensate you!"
I quirked my brow at her as she gave the male interviewer a look. He sighed and looked back at me.
"You will be compensated for your time today of course."
"I'd like in writing the amount of monetary compensation I will be receiving and a copy of that form please." I said with a sweet smile.
"Fine...if you get hired. If we onboard you, you will be compensated."
So the drawback is I could waste my entire day. However, she was desperate for a reason. There's no way this job doesn't have more serious drawbacks with the amount of money they're offering.
"If there is excessive stress, injury or loss I would like to be compensated either way," I said. "Of course, we can line out what that involves beforehand to prevent any abuse."
He thought for a moment then reluctantly asked the girl to type everything up. While she went to get that together he pulled out a piece of paper and explained the current schedule for today. Some photo shoots and interviews for the most part. Normally organizing the schedule and coordinating with clients would be my job but naturally, that was already taken care of for today. So far he didn't mention anything that would be out of the norm. So what's the catch?
"To prepare you, Dynamight is...a character." He warned.
There it is.
The woman came in with the contract. I read it, signed it, and tucked my copy into my bag.
"Alright, right this way." The woman said as held open the door for us.
As we stepped into the elevator they introduced themselves. The man was Masato Kakimori. The woman was Nazuna Ebi. The elevator opened to a long hallway leading to a big office a the end. People kept glancing at me and whispering as we passed by. With each concerned glance and hushed whisper, my anxiety notched up a level. By the time I entered the office, I was a little sweaty and hoping it didn't show. And there he was, the man, the myth, the legend himself Dynamight.
The sun shone down on his blonde hair, bleaching it white as he scowled at a computer screen, furiously reading whatever text lied there. A clock somewhere in the room loudly counted the seconds we stood there waiting for him to acknowledge us. I glanced at the people beside me who seemed just as nervous as I was and realized exactly what the situation was. The anxiety melted into pre-emptive dread and annoyance in the pit of my stomach. The unusually grand office, the weird power dynamics the sheer entitlement. It all added up to one conclusion.
This guy was a total diva.
After what felt like forever he finally looked up, annoyed as if he was the one waiting, and appraised us. He looked at the two managers beside me first, then me. He lingered on me for a bit before sneering.
"No."
"But Dynamight-" Mr. Kakimori said.
"No way."
I walked forward despite their hints not to and bent at the waist a bit before speaking.
"My name is Y/N, L/N and I'll be your secretary for the day and possibly for the foreseeable future. Nice to meet you."
He scoffed in response and clicked his mouse a few times on his computer. I stared at him for a while until he met my eyes, irritated.
Today is gonna be a long day.
"So is your job to stand there?" He snapped.
"My job is to be your assistant. Which starts when you give me the materials I need to assist you today." I replied.
He looked away from his computer, giving me the full force of his glare. I continued to give him the kind of look only a weathered office person or a DMV employee can give. When he noticed I wasn't going to back down he changed tactics. He sighed and pulled out some folders before he unceremoniously dropped them in my hands and walked off. I was confused until the managers frantically indicated that I needed to follow him.
I followed Dynamight into the elevator. We walked out of the building into a car heading to god knows where. I looked at the papers in the car to get some information about where we were headed. It was an interview with a TV show host. It was a segment about the next hero generation. Several new heroes were going to be there including Red Riot and Deku. I kinda wondered what they were like.
Soon we arrived and Dynamight walked out without waiting for me. I huffed, gathering all of the paperwork, and my badge. I thanked the driver on my way out. He seemed surprised but reciprocated. I walked into the building and assumed Dynamight was already backstage. When I tried to enter, I was stopped.
"How did you get inside. The show hasn't started yet."
"I'm Dynamight's assistant."
"He doesn't have an assistant."
Movement over the guy's shoulder caught my eye. I glared once I realized it was Dynamight talking with someone backstage. He gave me a shit-eating grin and headed further in leaving me to deal with this mess.
Asshole.
"I was hired today." I said as I pulled out my badge and proof of temporary employment.
The bodyguard looked at it and then looked up the agency number. After several minutes of call transfers and running around, I was confirmed to be legit and he let me through. I already wanted to strangle the bratty hero and it hasn't even been an hour yet. A couple of women with similar badges approached me with snacks and water. One had short black hair and the other wore a red shirt. I accepted the gifts with a confused expression.
"We heard you were Dynamight's new assistant."
"Today's just a field test technically but yea."
"Well, just hang in there okay." Red shirt said.
"Uh sure."
Yea I'm definitely in for it today.
As more heroes filed in, more assistants greeted me with maximum sympathy. With each present, my conviction to not take this job grew. Especially since every assistant specifically sought me out to give me a little cheer up. I've got a million snacks, a stress ball, fidget objects, and a stuffed toy. Every single assistant basically offered me their condolences. I set my stuff down in Dynamight's dressing room and sighed.
The burden himself walked in with a smirk as he picked up his phone. I scoffed and walked out of the room to be anywhere else. Backstage all the heroes were gathered and talking to each other. Including Deku, Red Riot, and Ingenium. I stayed back, a little intimidated by the lineup. They smiled and joked like old friends. Deku in particular had a wide smile that lit up the room. Dynamight came out and everyone greeted him with an enthusiasm only matched by his try-hard edgy diva bullshit.
Once all the heroes were finished with their makeup and all the crew were in their places, the cameraman started his countdown. While the talk show theme faded out, the host put on a huge smile and introduced all the heroes to the audience. Everyone at the very least gave a polite smile or wave except Dynamight.
I couldn't help but marvel at how polite and kind the other heroes seemed in comparison to him. I mean sure Red Riot, Deku, and Dynamight in particular had some impressive victories before they even graduated. If I committed key-to-the-city level deeds before turning eighteen, I'd probably have a big head about it too. The other two didn't though. They were kind and humble with their answers. And given how their assistants didn't have the same look I had, I figured they had to have displayed those qualities outside of interviews too. Dynamight caused another uncomfortable moment for the interviewer with his awful attitude so I decided to play a little prank.
"So Dynamight, I understand you Deku and Red Riot were in the same class! Do you miss hanging with your fellow heroes from UA?" The host asked, his smile a little forced.
"Not at all." He answered gruffly.
Despite his answer, his cheeks started flushing red. Red Riot and Deku's eyes widened as their smiles grew. Ingenium looked surprised then gave an earnest smile.
"Awww you miss us? Bro." Red Riot said as he hugged him.
"Get off!" Dynamight said as he shoved the man.
"It's okay Kacchan. I miss hanging out with everyone too!" Deku said cheerfully
"Shut up Deku." Dynamight gritted his teeth.
"Wow! Kacchan? That's a cute nickname!" The host laughed.
The audience ate up their interactions as it devolved to Dynamight defending himself. Suddenly he went from an arrogant newbie to a guy with serious gap moe. I made him blush at every single question that would give him appeal. Eventually, he looked around to find the cause of it and locked eyes with me. I smirked and his eyes narrowed. After the interview, he stomped off-stage and cornered me.
"What the fuck did you do?" He seethed.
"Nothing. Why do you think it was me?" I said innocently.
His hands steamed as he glared at me. I looked at him with disinterest until he stalked off, muttering to himself as he headed to his dressing room. I talked to the event coordinator to debrief. Apparently, this was their best interview with him. No yelling backstage, not too many awkward moments, and a surprising moe appeal. Everyone was eating it up. I gave them the paperwork that I was told to give them and thanked them for their hard work then headed out to the parking lot.
At first, I thought I had forgotten where we parked but as I kept walking up and down the rows I realized what happened. That bastard drove off without me. Because of fucking course he did. I let myself imagine strangling Dynamight before pulling out my phone to hail a taxi. The universe decided to give me a fucking break because there was a taxi really close by. As we headed to the next destination, I decided to include loss as part of the things that should be compensated. When I arrived, I saw him finish a conversation with the producer. He looked at me for a moment before smirking.
"You're late."
My eye twitched and he laughed to himself before going to the dressing room. This event was a shoot for a commercial. Before meeting Dynamight I actually liked catching them in my time online. After talking a bit with some of the crew the mission of these commercials was to advertise that wearing products from this sportswear company made you strong, ferocious, and irresistible. Which meant Dynamight was the perfect model for it. People were running all over the place, setting lighting and cameras. Dynamight headed to the set with a tight tank top and loose pants that hung below his v-line. They gave him instructions to follow to which he waved them off saying he had it.
Dynamight by all means should have been a model instead. His frown worked perfectly with the workout poses and sporty outfits. He was (unfortunately) nice to look at so when given instruction the photos came out incredible. Best of all, he didn't talk or at the very least this commercial didn't require him to. It was perfect. They had a scene where he had to wipe the sweat off his brow with the bottom of his t-shirt and look at the camera. I stiffened when I realized I was just staring at his body for an uninterrupted five minutes. He made eye contact with me and smirked. I cleared my throat and looked away.
"Cut! Let's do that scene again." The director yelled.
They reshot the scene, this time I tried to keep my eyes off of him as much as possible and we finished the shoot. I met with the crew giving them business cards and the information they needed to reach out and coordinate with the in-agency editing team. I bowed before I left and speed-walked to the car. Once I made it inside, I sunk into the seat with a smug grin on my face.
Try to leave me this time, bitch.
Except it seemed like Dynamight wasn't coming out. We waited ten minutes. Then twenty and by the time thirty minutes rolled around, I was about to exit the car when he leisurely strolled out. He got in, whistling a tune, and told the driver that unfortunately, we were too late to try to eat lunch so we had to go to the next appointment.
"You can skip lunch for one day right?" He smiled.
I smiled back at him, pulling out a snack from my backpack that one of the assistants gave me.
"Sure, whatever you need, Dynamight!" I said cheerfully.
He glanced at my bag full of snacks and scowled. He crossed his arms, sat back, and barked at the driver to go. For the next two appointments (which were thankfully quick), it was like that. A constant one-up contest and I was fucking exhausted by the time 3 o clock rolled around. I wanted some real damn food and I knew he did too. We stopped at a restaurant and when I smelled the food, I wanted to cry with relief. Dynamight must've also been starving because he didn't pull any shenanigans before we were seated.
We ordered our food and sat in silence for the entire time. I was mentally counting all the things I should be compensated for that fit within the temporary contract. Today sucked on a level I couldn't have imagined and dare I say it, I may even have grown an appreciation for my old job. The office politics, the nosy coworkers the goddamn frigid air that always blasted way too strongly. I'd rather deal with that than this man-child bullshit.
The waitress came back, setting down our food. It looked incredible and I was ready to devour every bite of it. Katsuki glanced at his food and sneered. He picked up a green vegetable and held it up to the waitress.
"I said no cilantro. What does this look like?"
"Oh! I'm sorry Dynamight let me get that-" She scrambled reaching her hands out.
"Do I fucking look like I'm at work right now?"
If we're being technical he is at work.
"Sorry, sir-"
"Are you fucking serious right now? Over cilantro?" I curled my lip at him.
The waitress looked tense between him and me, not sure what to do. I rolled my eyes and looked at the waitress.
"I'm sorry, please wait there, he's gonna apologize in a second." I said to her before returning my disgusted look to him.
"Like hell." He said leveling my stare.
I waited him out. He glared back, obstinate until he started shuffling around. His glare softened as he donned a confused expression. Then he jumped in his seat, sitting ramrod straight.
"What the fuck are you doing?" He hissed.
"Apologize." I said.
"Stop this shit right now or-"
"Or," I cut him off. "I'm gonna make your ass itch just like this in public every single day for the next month. Apologize to the waitress or scratch your ass until we're done with lunch."
She laughed for a second before sobering up under Dynamight's quick glare. He resisted for a second before pushing out a strained apology. The girl thanked us before picking up Dynamight's meal and leaving to correct it. He glared at me then at the stack of papers next to me. He still didn't read my file so he has no idea what is going on.
"What bullshit kind of quirk is that?"
"I can trick your brain into mimicking bodily reactions. Itchiness, blushing, nausea you name it."
"That's a fucking lame quirk. No wonder you're stuck kissing people's asses for a living."
My eyes narrowed as my blood finally boiled over. My infamous temper rearing its head.
"I think I've decided." I said as I pulled my phone out and texted the manager.
"On what." He grunted after I refused to elaborate.
"I'm gonna take you down a peg."
