Spying and Romancing

Summary:

Spy Touya Aoyagi, or as other's knew him - "Bad Dog" is given a mission that someone in their right mind would never accept.

"Pretend to be a gangster for two years and befriend one of the worst siblings in existence, the Shinonomes."

Such a mission is supposed to be taken seriously, after all the safety of his country depended on it.

But of course, romance comes in the way.

(Was "I was supposed to end you")

Chapter 1: A mission that will take 2 years.

Chapter Text

The sound of the clicking keyboard was killing the blue-haired man. At moments like this there was nothing he wanted more than silence. Just 2 hours ago he killed an important political figure, one many people will grief over. Of course, not those who knew of his evil intentions, ones many would have suffered over, ones that a common citizen would have never known of.

But Touya Aoyagi was not a common citizen, in fact he was the opposite of that. Aoyagi Touya, or how the other’s knew him - “Bad Dog” was a Spy. A spy that had one of the highest rankings at a young age of 24. Many didn’t even know of his existence, but those who knew saw in a positive light.

Of course, if they weren’t… his enemies or targets. Which he had a lot of. And enemies didn’t even have to be somehow related to business or past missions, they could be someone as simple as an ex friend. Which he had more of than actual friends, unsurprisingly. After he became a spy he had to give up all of his life, no questions asked. Having people attached to him would only cause issues after all, having to commit to relationships of all kinds with huge risks of death wasn’t the most pleasant for both sides.

That’s why Touya Aoyagi swore on one simple thing. He will never get actual friends he didn’t need for missions until the day he dies.

Romance was out of the question, of course.

And he didn’t mind, because if he ever did commit himself to a relationship, that might have caused other couples to never make it. That one time he stopped a train full of families from getting thrown off the tracks, that mission in another country where he stopped a mall from simply collapsing with, of course, families inside, and all the other missions that involved families or couples that he saved. All those missions and the pride he felt after them was incomparable to the nonsense that other’s called “relationships” anyways, so why should he want them? What good did friends even bring to a spy like him?

It was all stupid Aoyagi Touya thought as he downed another energy drink, five cans finished in the last hour still on the floor, unmoved. This mixed with at least 4 cups of Americano was probably not the healthiest, but you have to do what you have to in order to stay awake and finish writing a check of all the expenses of your job for the past month. Aka, the less fun part of being a spy. Music wasn’t going to wake him up either, as most of his playlist was filled with artists like Mitski. With a sigh he tried writing down all his expenses, hardly remembering a thing. Fuck this, he thought as he grabbed his laptop and smashed it on the floor, no guilt felt after. His agency will get him another one anyways. With that he felt a vibration in his left pocket, the place he held his phone in. And there was only one person that could call him at such a time…

“Yes, boss Azusawa? Is there something urgent happening at 4 AM?”

“You’re still not asleep, I assume. Come to the headquarters, will you? You can start the mission earlier tomorrow then.” A mission that I have to go to the headquarters to? Something serious, an assasination perhaps.

“On my way!”

The all too familiar bakery just across his apartment was open at all hours, not for the purpose of a bakery, though. The “cashier” was probably a new one as Touya had never seen her, he thought.

“An order. An order is what I’d like.” It was a stupid phrase to say at a bakery, but the secret code was not up to him after all.

“What order?” Good, she remembers it.

“A pain au chocolat, actually 5 of them.” Word to word, and the agreed on horrible french accent was there…

“Ah, Bien. Follow me.” Touya grabbed his briefcase that was currently on the ground and followed the woman, even if he knew the way better than her. In his amateur days he came here everyday to take minor missions, now the agency trusted him enough to talk it over the phone. The only times he was requested to come here was…

“You probably already know what to do so good luck, Bad Dog.” The young woman said as she put her hand on his shoulders. He flinched at that, accidentally knocking her to the ground. She should know better though , he thought to himself, leaving without an apology. Intruding a spys’ personal place was the dumbest decision you could ever make, as they were extremely triggered by a single touch. At times it could end with a spy accidentally getting into “fight mode” and killing an innocent civilian that just wanted to grab their hand or a hug. Both of these were real stories, sadly. A simple thing as a touch could cause death and jail, who would’ve thought…

By this thought the elevator has already gotten to the ground floor, the floor where none other than the master of this agency Kohane Azusawa was established. The woman smiled at her worker, shaking Touya’s hand as if there was nothing wrong, even if both knew that an important mission was awaiting the blue-haired, probably one that could possibly end in death for the man.

“Follow me, Bad Dog.” She said while sitting down on one of the sofas next to a coffee table, maneuvering the other to sit besides her.

“Bad dog, you have a new mission… a long and important one.” Not a simple assasination, huh?

“Haven’t had one like that in quite a while, spill.”

The blond woman pulled out photos, 3 if Touya remembers correctly. Without managing to inspect them, Kohane started her rant.

“These are probably one of the worst siblings you could meet, the Shinonomes. The sister is manageable, but the brother is one of the biggest crime lords you could imagine. People knew of their existence for quite a while, but just an hour ago did we manage to track them down.”

“You want me to kill them?”

“No. That would be a loss for humanity, they have so much info that could be useful for future operations. Only at the end will you have to kill them, which could take, what, 2 years?” At that the man choked on the non-existent item in his throat. The ever so caring woman patted his back, waiting for him to stop.

“I’m sorry Azusawa-San, but 2 years… is a bit long.”

“If you manage to gain Shinonomes’ trust earlier, then yes it will not take so long. Which means you have to do what you have if you want to get back faster, manipulate him if needed.” Touya kept opening his mouth, at a loss for words. 2 years was such a long time, even for a loner like him. Having to be friends with some criminal was even worse, why did his boss hate him so much? Can’t he just kill them…

Right, the useful information.

“I’ll take it, happy to hear you trust me with such a mission.”

“Great!” The blond put her hands together, jumped up from the couch and left to call the agency’s driver. Such a mission was serious, something not many in their right mind would agree on. But all those years ago Touya swore he’d do what’s needed for his people’s sake, he can’t just take it back.

“Get ready Bad Dog, not much time to spare.”

Touya stared at the photos of a ginger man and his brunette sister, remembering every mole, birthmark and scar of theirs he could. At the end he felt prepared, prepared enough to say that he won’t die on the first day.

The woman handed him the files with all the info he would need, wishing him good luck and giving her motherly warnings and hugs. Even a kiss on the cheek, if that mattered. Touya waved her goodbye, leaving for the elevator. As he went up and waved her goodbye he realized what he had done. In just minutes he gave away the next 2 years, 2 years that he… would have continued to do spy work.

It felt wrong, but this is what he was required to do. He chose this career, no one ever forced it on him. And now he has to deal with it. By tomorrow’s morning he will have to act his role of a gangster for the sake of this world.

And he will, because Bad Dog was there to remove the bad from the world.
